While some of the cases presented in this anthology are very well known others are more obscure and some are written from and investigative perspective and some contained information I've never read before. I especially got into the Mary Bell story and that of Carol Bundy. They both included perspectives and updates I've never read about. I very much enjoyed this series!
I had high hopes for this set of books. Brief but to the point descriptions of murder cases. Easy reads that hopefully give a good look at what happened. If I want more info, I can dig up the individual cases that intrigued me. A few of the stories covered murders I had previously read about in other books. For the most part the stories told were the same. A few minor details differed or were just not mentioned in this version. However, there were some serious inconsistencies that did not make sense. These are things that should have been picked up on by an editor.
For example, in the Elliot Rodger story, it describes his killing spree, specifically naming at least seven people he killed. Then at the end it says he killed six people. In another story the same thing happened. One number is stated then a few pages later it was a different number. At the end in the summary, yet a third number is stated. There were other details as well that changed from one part to the next. I finished the first volume but gave up after the Elliot Rodger story in Volume 2. I get wanting to keep the writing easy to read for multiple age groups, but it still needs to be edited for basic sentence structure. I wanted to know the stories, but just could not get past the annoying inconsistency and poor writing in general. I'll look for other books that cover these crimes. This anthology was a rare DNF. There are a lot of stories here, but I don't know how trustworthy the info is. I recommend trying others first.
This book series was very informative and an interesting read. I liked the way the authors organized the stories and the books. Each criminal was detailed in an objective manner, and a brief story of their life was told. Each individual book in the set is composed of 12 murders that perpetrated similar crimes, such as cannibalism or spree killing. With the stories organized like this, it was interesting to see the similarities between these criminals and their reasons for committing their crimes. Each chapter on a murder takes a maximum of 10 minutes to read, so this book is good for someone that just wants to read a little bit each day, or wants something they can read on their commute to work. As someone who enjoys crime TV shows I thought this book was great and would definitely recommend it!
There are 17 books in this anthology. I did not count the number of terrifying murder cases. It is apparent that there are multiple writers. Some of those writers are incompetent at best. That is proven by the prolific misuse of commas and semicolons. Punctuation has rules. Its function is to allow the reader to understand what the writer is communicating.
The stories themselves offer a wide variety of murderers and their methods. In some cases it gives the reader a better understanding of the mindset of the murderer, what brought the person to decide that murder was the solution to their problems or how their miswired brains compelled them to take the lives of others, whether family members, friends, or strangers.
I enjoyed these books. It was interesting to read an overview of all types of crimes throughout history. I have enjoyed many of them and would love to learn more about some of the stories that have peeked my interest. This was a long read. From my understanding this series is really a review of the actual books that I think would be quite thrilling to read. But this was nice to have a little clip about all of the many crimes throughout history.
The subjects chosen were interesting and, while not the most obscure killers available, neither were they the "famous" ones like the Hillside Strangers or good ol' Teddy boy. I'm a grammarian and was slightly put off by language, syntax, and grammar errors but none were grievous. Overall it's an interesting read and well worth it.
If you want to learn more about criminals and serial killers this is the book for you. Can't believe some of the things these serial killers do. It is really a scary world .
Good books. Informative . Not to descriptive on cases details for squeamish A lot of mass shooting type cases so not so Ted Bundy All in all it's a good read.
These were captivating stories of true crime. There were misspelled words and words left out, so sometimes I’d have to read the sentience twice to get the point, but overall it was a good read.
This was an interesting read. I love true crime, there were lots of errors but it also had me learn of other crimes that are not as wildly known as others.
Had a lot of down time with a broken foot so this was a good series to pass the time. Content good (to my interest) but definately could use better editing.
