The For Sale Make Offer's trip to Kigantu ended with a daring escape, but Geddy's past came back to haunt him. Facing a hungry crew and an empty hold, he enters the galaxy's most infamous high-stakes race. A potentially lucrative leap of faith takes them deep into uncharted space, pushing the untested crew to the brink. But Geddy has his own reasons for making the journey. To succeed, he'll need to trust his crew with the truth — and his life. Trawler Trash: Book 2 of Reassembly continues the uproarious space adventure begun in Rocket Repo . I write cinematic sci-fi of substance. What does that mean? Well, my love of writing came from reading, but my love of story really came from movies. Expect smart characters and short chapters that move along at a cinematic pace. I like intricate, plausible stories that reward careful readers without alienating those who just want to kick back and escape this messed-up world for a while.
I recently released Ship Show, the third book of Reassembly, a humorous space opera series. My dystopian trilogy, The Cytocorp Saga, is available now.
I currently live in Ecuador.
When I'm not writing page-devouring science fiction, you can find me thinking about it.

The only thing Geddy didn’t know about running a deep-space salvage trawler was how any aspect of it actually worked, which somehow didn’t disqualify him from being captain.
In many ways, I could probably just copy/paste my review from the first of C.P.James' "Reassembly Series" for use here. However, I'll go ahead and say up front (upfront?) that I enjoyed "Trawler Trash" a little bit more than the first book and so want to focus on some of the positive issues in this one. Again, James' writing is fine and I have no major issues with the editing; however, I'm still feeling that the - well, not so much execution but construction - of the story isn't where I'd like to see it. In other scifi series that I hold with the deepest affection - and goodness knows the list is too long to dwell on here - there seemed to be a more coherent mission involved. And even though I do feel like we're morphing our way towards a truly central theme in this one, we still have sometimes too much going on much too randomly and even haphazardly for comfort.
Of all the noses in all the worlds in all the galaxy, I had to go up yours.
The strength of the story continues to rotate around the motley crew that occupy the For Sale Make Offer aka the Fizmo or just the Fiz if you want to save the time it takes to utter the 'mo part. Obviously, Captain Geddy Starheart, Oz, Denk and Morpho return in all their battle-hardened glory. And the new additions - namely the shamed scholar Dr. Tardigan and 3-meter tall lizard dude Voprot the Kigantean - fit in more than adequately as we once again jet from clusterfudge to clusterfudge trying to locate Geddy's stolen ship, The Penetrator, which someone finally acknowledges is a name with more than its fair share of double or even triple entendres!
Was it a rule of the universe that everything eventually got shittier and more expensive?
The bit though that is once again locking my phasers on something less than stunning (oh ha ha) is that too many parts were either full of wasted potential (the pirate scene for example) or really didn't expose - YET I realize could be the case! - their purpose at all. In the latter case, I found the rather random visit to Oz's homeworld and her family - discovering along the way that she is indeed a Princess! (are you listening Lone Starr?) - to be an unsatisfying distraction that really served little to no purpose other than to verify, yes, her past sucked. Again, I'm willing to give the story-line a chance to prove me wrong, but hey, this plotting "technique"(?) is really starting to tow along a lot of loose threads by now!
“And then disco ruined everything.” “What’s that? Some kind of planet-killing asteroid?”
And like the last chapter, I found that there were a lot of pretty far-fetched reaches between the time we're in now and the source of the references. We get the usual modern cultural stuff (Silver Surfer, riiiiight) which is far less believable than pointing out that the Challenger shuttle disaster was at least taught in schools. The latter makes sense! What didn't make sense though (allowing me to turn my point on a dime here) that at one point we learn out of the blue that the Fiz's shuttle, the Dom, has stealth tech? To quote the Church Lady: how convenient! And how utterly random it shows up just when it's needed the most!
The creatures’ faces, if you could call them that, were puckered like assholes with an industrial-looking mouth part that resembled the business end of a nose-hair trimmer.
Finally, some of the humor - e.g. naming characters Uhrin and Balzac - is just flying by and leaving unappreciated ion trails on my scalp. Either make the story a funny ha ha fest or don't, but stop with the sometimes but maybe hey what if but no not now later ok stuff! Oh and I'm also willing to take bets on the source of the name Dr. Birgit Nilsson, which can't be as random as it seems. I'm not sure if the author is making a play on Brigitte Nielsen - famously brilliant, um, whatever she wound up being ex-wife of Sly Stallone - or just wanted to pay tribute to famous Swedish soprano Birgit Nilsson. Because "duh", right? Obviously, your guess is as good as mine.
Either we get your ship back or literally everyone dies.
But ok, I'm sticking with the series. If the Bad Nads (tm pending) can even convert the utter innocence that are water bears aka tardigrades, then as they say, something must be done! I'm really hoping the focus becomes much more on this aspect of preventing the destruction of all civilization (assuming even their own which seems, well, dumb). No, the trawling for trash (ha! See how I worked that reference in?) is not a bad use of segues from one part of the mission to the next, but I am hoping for at least a few more pages to be spent in each stop along the way! Let's see, third book should be the charm, right? Make it so, Mr. Junt!
Salvage Ship just doesn’t sound as good as Trawler Trash. The title is catchy and the series is worthy of the catchy title, however it it far from trash or trashy. Great character development that felt realistically paced. The story takes a turn that I in no way saw coming and I was pleasantly surprised. I am enjoying getting to know more about the predictively motley crew. This is an entertaining intergalactic ride that you should hop on.
And now it's on to the next one in the series. This is so excellent and so much fun to read that I can only say, to those of you debating whether or not to give it a try... If you're a real sci fi fan and you get bored by blood, guts and destruction... And clever words between characters during intense and life threatening action... You may enjoy this series as much as I have! 🙂
So many ideas and stories about where knowledge came from. How and Why, were would we be if no one pplever asked these two 3 letter words. Was this the real Apple from the garden. Was it the fire that Hermès gave man. Or was it the rebellion of Morningstar. So why not a spore from the center of the universe.
This was a great addition to this Rocket Repo series! I am getting a kick out of this group of characters! They kind of remind me of the Guardians of the Galaxy group, but they are definitely aimed at a more adult audience. I would definitely love to see this series eventually made into a graphic novel or animated series.
Recommended for someone with a strong sense of humor who also loves space opera. This is a quick and fun read. I really enjoyed it and am not giving out any spoilers.
Book 2 is as good as if not better than the first. I'm so thrilled there is going to be a 3rd book and look forward to devouring it!! It's so much fun exploring the Universe with these characters who feel like old friends at this point. Love love loved it!!
Geddy and his crew return, looking to retrieve his ship so he can return Eli to his home. The crew need money, so a quick trip to old earth is in order, what could go wrong. Good book, the crew gel well together, which keeps the story moving along nicely.
Book two didn’t disappoint, solid storyline, character building and humor. I can’t wait to get to book three. I have never seen such a wonderful blend of science fiction and mystery. Most enjoyable read.
Where have you been CP James and why did it take me so long to find this . It's 1:00 AM and I just finished book 2 and downloaded book three. Gonna be a long day at the office tomorrow
Trawler Trash by C.P. James is an entertaining quick read with a good deal of humor. The story has a good number of interesting concepts and enough strange situations to keep the story moving and interesting. This is a good follow-up to the first book in the series, Rocket Repo.
The author continues to put together a great story The characters continue to develop into loving individuals With a lot of flawsThese result in some very unique Situations Book 3 should be great
Geddy, Eli, and the rest of the crew are in and out of trouble as they learn more about the Nads. A well written story with diverse characters. A great read.
Mr. James has a sense of humor. And a imagination. Reading was not difficult at all. Turning the page came rather quick to see what Teddy was up to next.
