EN Things start to go wrong for Reiji.

He’s forced to manage his relationships with all the people he cares about — but the problem is that they, too, begin to realise each other’s presence and the impact each of them has on his life. This leads to conflicts between them, which inevitably end up hurting Reiji.

At the same time, new sides of these characters are revealed — and many of them are surprisingly dark.

An absolutely delightful series to read.

--

. ♬ ݁˖ … A melancholy town where we never smile.

This series continues its spiraling, downward plight.

I’m genuinely trying to figure out how mangaka Minenami comes up with these absolutely insane situations, managing to make them deeper and darker— but he finds a way every time.

We’re getting to the point where characters and storylines are being intertwined in a dangerous way.

In Vol. 4, I was concerned that my favorite character, Chako, was turning into a different person. I’ve since changed my mind.

Previously, Chako had confronted Nagi.

Now she’s on Ms. Shiba’s ass, and rightfully so.

PLEASE MAKE SURE MY GIRL IS OKAY!

But after Ms. Shiba learns of Chako’s existence (while stalking Reiji)— she comes after Chako in a horrendous way.

Deplorable.

Chako is then thrust into a horrible situation that has affected her at school, at home— and has possibly shattered her friendship with Reiji.

Reiji also learns that Nagi has left town, rejoining Acrylic back in Tokyo.

This prompts him to have some sort of brief breakdown over all of the alternating people and situations in his life— making him realize he does want to die alongside Nagi.

This poor boy is so lost.

A conversation between Esemori and Reiji about Nagi leaving them behind— leads me to believe a major plot twist is coming.

I THINK I KNOW WHAT IT IS, OH MY GOSH.

And is Yuko (Reiji’s mom) grooming and manipulating his best friend, Gen?

Every character is revealing the darker sides of themselves, and it’s truly addicting to witness.

Finally, Yuko and Esemori meet up for coffee and a chat, while Esemori reveals the master plan he has for the town he grew up in.

Destruction.

It’s all about to get so much worse.

Boy’s Abyss is all the ugliness you just can’t look away from.

First ch. actually doesn’t disappoint! The teacher is helping in a concrete way—and I knew he was worried over nothing about his mom. Er, besides what irrelevant-ish thing he found out last book.

Who casually tells their mom they almost killed themselves? Framing is always so bad in this book. The kid has no emotions or brain, no lead up to anything. A woman will suggest anything to him and he’ll take it on as a “personality” for a day.

Okay, so I knew I was getting something wrong w/ the 90s suicide. That’s explained. Hey, maybe Esemori had a crush on Rei’s mom even? I guess that’s who he inherits his flip-floppy mental illness from. Chako is pretty smart or conniving this issue. We see the teacher really come unhinged like the reviewers wanted since volume 2.

Speaking of her, the scene is so incest-framed. Why didn’t the author just draw porn instead of nonsensical suspense? Split up your fetishes per story, man! Or maybe he should’ve produced these under a way looser deadline and steadier outline. The shoehorning of every taboo and twist shows. BTW, manga always makes tongues look so gross and fat like a beetle… The end is actually volume one good.

Every time I think to myself "Okay, this is it, this is the limit of how bad it can get", this series obliterates the limit, and gets even worse. Can Reiji not catch one single break? It seems like everyone claims that they love him and will help him get out, but then turns around and abuses him. Holy mother of god. What kind of tangled hellscape is this town?!

Oh... this is getting worse and worse (the circumstances, not the series) because Shiba is headed toward full yandere after catching Reiji and Chako on a date, spreading lies and trying to get Reiji no matter what or how. But Reiji's mom is doing the same thing from a different angle, pulling strings and manipulating people to keep Reiji where he is.

Then there's Esemori's connection in all this and I'm starting to think that Reiji's father... isn't his real father.

This series has 18 volumes.
