Not usually one for Novellas I read this as won it….and really enjoyed it
I can see there are 4 previous books in the series but this didn’t matter and can be read as a stand alone and as with me give you some idea of the writing and the characters etc
Firstly unusually for me I liked every Police character inc DCI Bone, all had their foibles but all seemed ‘normal’ and interjected humour into their work
The writing was easy to read and get involved with and I enjoyed the mostly character driven dialogue that made up the story, which itself was intriguing
As a novella and taster really of the authors work I would have no qualms now reading further books in the series

The author’s evil ploy worked. He offered this novella for free to introduce readers to his series character DCI Duncan Bone. Now I am eager to follow the series.

I very much enjoyed this quick crime read. Duncan Bone is a character I want to follow. The writing kept me absorbed, the descriptions were vividly portrayed, and the police team were interesting. The setting, the Campsie Fells area in Scotland, was one I appreciated.

The ending provided a segue into what could be an interesting case for the first book in the series. If you’re looking to start a new series and enjoy police procedurals, then why not make the acquaintance of DCI Duncan Bone and his team? I’m glad I did.

For a novella, this certainly contains a lot of goings on. When a body is found in a car submerged in water, there is pressure on the team to solve the case. Its a great intro to Bone and his fellow cops, and gives you a good idea of each of their personalities. Mullens is probably one of my favourite characters throughout the series so far, and that begins in this novella.
It kept me interested all the way through, and I really enjoyed this extra treat with DCI Bone and his team. I am chomping at the bit to get the next book.

I've never really been one for novellas but T.G Reid might just have changed my mind. Read it in one sitting, so must be good

Having never read any of his DCI Bones books, I wasn't sure what to expect but I must say I was pleasantly surprised (although now I've got another series of books to get stuck into).

A body discovered in a submerged car in a quarry during a heatwave means DCI Bone and his team have their work cut out for them. Add in a pair of twins leading very different lives and you have enough intrigue to keep you turning in the pages.

Received this novella for signing up for Mr. Reid's newsletters. This was my introduction to the DCI Bone series.

The groundwork has been set for a wonderful series. The plot was a tad confusing but I think because I had to read it on my phone instead of on paper or via Audible. Ebooks are my nemesis due to my eyes.

I am uncertain where this was written in the course of the whole series, I assume after the first book or two because not a lot of background on the team is given...but that's ok because I am about to start book one in day or two.

I received a copy of this book from the author.

This is a prequel to the Inspector Bone series and really sets the scene for the books that are to follow, introducing the readers to Bone’s team.

The characters are not perfect and don’t always jump to the right conclusions which just makes this more story believable.

A fast paced story, make sure that you have time to do nothing else but read this as you won’t want to put it down.

I’m looking forward to reading more of this series.

With an exceptionally hot summer, the team are under pressure to solve the case when a body is found in a car submerged in water.

Although this is a novella, it is a fast paced story that held my attention throughout. Some great characters, Mullens always makes me laugh, and great humour amongst the seriousness.

This is a fine introduction to Tom Reid's DCI Bone books.

I actually read this novella after I'd read the four books that follow, but that didn't matter. The story works as a stand alone.

If you haven't come across the books of T.G. Reid yet, why not start here. It's available free if you go onto the T.G. Reid website.

Another great DCI Bone read. A body is discovered in a the reservoir as a heat wave reduces the water level. Bone is faced with three suspects. Identical crazy twins or a thug with a fierce dog. This DCI Bone short story taster is available free from tgreid.com

I have now read all 3 of TG Reid's DCI Bone novels and am a total fan. Very likeable (and some utterly irritating) characters, quite a bit of humour and very interesting plots. Can't wait for the next in the series

As the hot summer progresses the water level in the Auchinbary quarry lowers enough to expose a car. A car with a body in it, that of Paul Conlan. DCI Bone and his team investigate, revealing three suspects. But which one is guilty.
An entertaining and well-written mystery

This novella by one of my favourite authors hit the mark. A real conundrum of a mystery to solve, hard hitting characters, a touch of humour resulting in belly laughs - think heat wave and possible comic scenarios.
Loved it

it was a free book but didn't impress me much. I swear if they had talked about the heat one more time during this book I would have stopped right then and there. I won't be reading any more of the author.

As a short story and prequel to the DCI Bone series, this book gives the reader a good insight into what we can expect. His obsession with his beloved Saab, his chaotic home life and Mullen's ongoing issues with his father. Well worth a read.

Have some humor with the drama. DCI Bone has the perfect retorts to the amusement of his audience. You can never go wrong with TG Reid's writing. He brings it all together seamlessly.
Highly Recommended.

This is a terrific introduction to the DCI Bone series. A shorter read but an excellent one. DCI Bone is a great character who you quickly warm to and want to spend more time with.
