HOLY HIJINKS!

The wise-guys of Tachikawa continue their extended vacation in the suburbs of Tokyo, with goofy gags and messianic misadventure aplenty. Buddha and Jesus tackle the intricacies of online communication, try to corral the scheming Mara, and accidentally incite Japan's first gender reveal party. The idio-syncretic hilarity never ends!

Reviewing higher numbered volumes of manga series is always difficult. If it's a plot-driven series, you can't say much because of spoilers (or you can tack on a spoiler warning and accept that only a small percentage of people will read it.) If it's a character-driven, gag-oriented, open-ended series like Saint Young Men, there's very little you can say that wasn't already said in reviews of previous volumes.

The basic setup: Jesus and Buddha are sharing an apartment in Japan as a sort of break from their heavenly duties. The humor is largely gentle, and decently respectful of the various dogma associated with both faiths. It's a very warm and funny book, and Hikaru Nakamura is an inventive enough creator to be able to spin endless variations on such a simple premise. Yes, each volume is more or less similar to the one before it. But I certainly don't ever get the sense that Nakamura is simply coasting.

Saint Young Men continues to delight. Recommended!

Jesus wants to be an Avenger, Abel vouches for Cain's innocence, prophecy clothes, Tarasque paella, God performs Rakugo, Jesus worries about BO, and the Archangels team up with the Devas to give Christmas a makeover.

Now it's Easter's turn for a makeover (Uriel, no!), masterful mini painting, Buddha forgets his Nintendo password, God gives Jesus a chance to test out his new (out of season) snow boots, a trip to the ocean, Buddha is tortured with a Google Home, Lucifer takes Buddha and Jesus to Costco, Jesus meets his online hero, Jesus and Buddha rejoice with Shizuko-shan, and Peter and John go viral on YouTube.

This omnibus contains volumes 15 -16.
