If you’re looking for a wonderful encouraging women’s devotional that reminds you to raise a hallelujah then Raise a Hallelujah is just the devotional for you.
From the very beginning of this devotional, you are told that, "You always have a reason to praise God." and it goes on to tell/show you so many different ways to do just that. From facedown before God, to a holy holler of hallelujah (just think about that for a moment....what a response), when left to your own devices, even when life doesn't cooperate, when we need a reset, hope in a hostile world, startle and stun, I mean, there is so much in here that helps you actually raise a hallelujah in the middle of the mess. The book is set up with 200 different topic headers, the verse that coincides with the specific topic (all different versions of the bible are used), followed by an explanation, and ends with a prayer. Well worth the time reading, when you are in a high place, or down in the valley needing a pick me up. Very well done! *I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. This review is my own opinion*
I wanted to like this book, I really did. It is hard to find a good, Biblically sounds devotional for women, and for me, this one is not it. My first issue is that the author uses many different translations of the Bible. Whenever I see this it makes me think the author is choosing whichever translation fits with the buzzwords or phrases they want to talk about. Personally I do not consider the MSG or TPT to be reliable and accurate translations.
My second issue with this book is that there does not seem to be much substance. We read sections titled "He never changes", "let nothing stop you", and "nothing is impossible when God steps in". The passages after are quite short, and there is n't really anything to them.
Thirdly, there is an awful lot of repetition. Different passages say pretty much the same thing, so I wonder if I have already read it.
"You always have a reason to praise God" What a great opening line!! With a start like that i just knew I was in for some inspirational and spiritual nourishment.
From start to finish the pages of this book are jam packed full of thankfulness. Thank you for freedom, thank you for my blessings, thank you for redemption, thank you for caring, thank you for making me special. Each day there is a devotional to guide and remind us of our blessings & how to express our thankfulness.
"God, I don't know how You do it, but I sure am glad You do!" Amen!
Thank you to NetGalley and Barbour Publishing for an ARC of Raise a Hallelujah in exchange for my honest review.
