Written by horticulturalist Riz Reyes and fully illustrated by Sara Boccaccini Meadows, this is the perfect introduction to growing plants for families everywhere.
i’m collecting books for my future classroom and this one is so cute!!!! the illustrations are actually adorable and i now know random facts about the history of plants and i’m not even mad about it 🌸🍓🐝🥬🌻🥕
Where were books like this when I was a kid? Simple, detailed, extraordinary; it draws on the familiar and yet embraces the unusual or at least flora that is known in some cultures and societies more fully in than others thus making this guide relevant and so so interesting on a global level.
This book is beautiful! Gorgeous water color illustrations and wonderful, easy to follow organization. It reviews 14 major plant families (and one section on mushrooms) that are important to humans, primarily food plants, but also flowers and succulents that aren't edible. It goes over plants you may recognize, others you may not, a few fun facts, and the historical significance of each plant family. It's easily digestible and fun to flip through
This book is a little over Lily's head at her age, but it's a fantastic book on gardening for kids and curious adults. Includes chapters on various plants and which families they belong to along with the history and mythology associated with each. The artwork is beautiful and detailed.
This is a great book for when doing a science experiment and teaching students how to grow certain things. This is the book I would use to introduce growing plants and what all goes into taking care of and growing plants.
There is A LOT happening on each page. There are a lot of cool facts if you’re interested in plants, but it did start to give me a little bit of anxiety, because there was so many words and pictures on each page.
Beautiful, and informative. The arrows for text flow were subtle and helpful. I didn’t understand the family reference until I opened it up, so I thought it was a book about how to garden with your family. Probably should have been subtitled “A Guide to Plant Families and How to Grow Them”
A fantastically wonderful book describing 15 plants, giving descriptions, unique facts, and tips for growing the plants as a family. The illustrations are beautiful!
I read this in German, but since that edition is not on Goodreads, I'll write my review on the English edition instead.
This books is beautiful and has covers a lot of different plant families, if this is the correct term. There were quite a few things I didn't know yet.
5 stars - would have been obsessed with the plant facts as a kid.
