Iamasaurus: A Picture Book

Rate this book
A romp of a tale about the surprising similarities between dinosaurs and children

Iamasaurus. I am noodlevorous. One of the genus Ridiculorous. Mothers abhor us. Babies adore us. We romp and we stomp and we chomp on the floras. Turns out kids are not unlike T. rexes. Did you know both creatures share many of the same body parts—maxillae, mandibles, clavicles, ribs. Scapulas, humeri, tibias, fibs? This fun romp of a book will make young readers' inner dinosaurs roar with delight.

This book combines body part names with dinosaurs while a group of children are in a museum. There are some decent rhymes Illustrations are just ok to me

This book is so much fun and cleverly written. A perfect read aloud for a group of children or a one to one connection with your favorite little dinosaur. It’s beautifully illustrated and will be loved by young and old alike. I can see teachers using this to segue into discussion about anatomy, language, dinos and more. I can see parents and children laughing together as they read and learn new words.

A fun and lively combination of paleontology and anatomy for kids. A busload of children romp through a museum, celebrating how much they have in common with the dinosaurs. A fun read-loud, with clever rhymes.

As soon as I started reading this fun, fun book to my first grade class, there was laughter and joy! The kids loved the language and the pictures and finding the little dinosaur. Similar to the little mouse in Goodnight Moon, there is a hidden dinosaur on each page and that very much captured the kids' attention along with the super fun language. As soon as I finished reading Iamasaurus the first time, I was greeted with cries of, "Again! Again!" "I love this book!" "I want this book!" This was an instant daily read for my first graders and that's saying a lot since English is a second language for most of them. Iamasaurus offers kids (and adults) SO much to focus on: the lyrical quality of the language, names of bones and the pictures that tell their own story, A total winner!

A chaotic group of elementary kids stomps through the natural history museum with nary a chaperone in sight. A hapless mustachioed maintenance man trails after them, until they all end up in the hands-on education classroom, thank god. Similar to Give Me Back My Bones the rhyming text incorporates scientific names of body parts that kids share with dinosaurs, explaining where they are found in the body using the illustrations.

Colorful and whimsical!

Iamasaurus has brilliant illustrations and charming rhymes that make this the perfect picture book to share with a group of wiggly kiddos. Large and simple pictures let even those not sitting on the front row get a good look, and the text had me smiling from the very start.

Cute idea, but not the best execution. Some of the rhymes did not flow well, but young children interested in dinosaurs will probably enjoy it.

I accessed a digital review copy of this book through Edelweiss.

I liked the premise for this book, but the execution just didn't work for me. The rhyming text didn't always work so this book is a poor choice to be read aloud. But, the long vocabulary makes it too complicated for a child to read on their own. Cute artwork though.

There are a ton of hard words in here for kids. Cute rhyming, but not good for storytime at all.
