Pineview Prison has been emptied and the death penalty abolished. But whatever haunts the death row cell dubbed Hell’s Gate isn’t letting go—of the past or of its victims.
Brothers and private investigators Sully and Dez are contacted after the building’s new co-owner, Ed, is nearly killed by a paranormal force. With just days to go until the prison reopens as a hostel, Ed is desperate to rid the place of the murderous ghost.
His partner, Kevin, has other ideas. He’s invited a popular ghost-hunting TV program to the prison—a move that spooks Sully and Dez as much as the haunted location.
With only one night to rid the place of its violent entities, the brothers have their work cut out for them—and sharing space with obnoxious TV personalities isn’t helping. Not only are the crew members uninterested in heeding Sully’s warnings, they’re intent on provoking the already-volatile dead.
Decommissioned or not, this prison could prove inescapable. And Hell’s Gate might be about to claim more souls.
The Braddock & Gray Case Files take mystery and give it a ghostly twist. The series is a follow-up to the highly rated, seven-book Sullivan Gray Series.
Raised on a farm on the Canadian Prairies, words quickly became my means of exploring the world around me and giving life to the one created in my imagination. Fascinated by ghost stories and crime fiction, I have been writing both for well over two decades, drawing on more than fifteen years in a career in a criminal justice setting. When not putting Scrivener through its paces, I enjoy reading, portrait drawing, travel and spending time with family and friends.
Sully and Dez have been invited to help take care of a small problem at the newly renovated Pineview Prison, now a hostel. Ed and Kevin, the new owners, have had a scary run-in with a ghost who is quite violent. They are weeks away from opening and Ed fears they will be liable for deaths or injuries should they open. He wants Sully to rid the place of any violent evil. Two problems: a prison is going to hold more than one kind of evil and Kevin has decided to hire a provocative ghost hunting TV crew. Will Sully be able to focus and do his job in a place filled with negative spirits? Will he be able to play nice with the insufferable ghost hunters?
The Hanged Man reminded me of a more serious episode of Supernatural. I absolutely loved it! It felt different from the last few that I’ve read. It still had ghosts aplenty. It lacked a major murder mystery. It had so many great scenes of Dez and Sully’s strong bond as brothers. There were frustrating new characters. I loved the rest urn of some old favorites. We get to see more development of the supernatural world, especially with the abilities of the reapers. So much to love in this one.
The Hanged Man By H.P. Bayne This book is at a prison that has closed down but a pair of men want to turn it into a tourist destination. Unfortunately, there are some folks that never left when they died! Pretty exciting!
I really enjoyed this, roller coaster ride, of a story. The former prison was, undoubtedly, a terrifying place to be incarcerated. No wonder such murderous spirits continued to roam the place, even after it had been closed down. I'm glad I won't be one of the guests in its new guise, as a "haunted" hotel.
Oh, but I so like this series! And this new book in it didn't disappoint; it was fantastic and truly terrifying.
From the very beginning we know that the ghost with whom we are dealing here is dangerous. And the circumstances in which Sully and Dez have to face it aren't the best, what with the crew of a ghost haunting TV show crew interfering all the time.
This was a truly exciting reading and I enjoyed every word on it. But having Flynn, Aiden, & Jack helping them in such an epic ending? That was simply grandiose *g*
If I didn’t already believe in ghosts, these books would convince me ghosts do exist. I don’t know what I’m going to do when there is no more Sully and Dez. I’ve now read everything you’ve done and have preordered your next book. As patience is not a virtue I do well, it’s going to be a long, long wait. But, what a birthday give from me for me! Your books are so real and move at a great pace. The characters are so real that I want to spend real time with them, experiencing what they are going through. The Hanged Man is a WINNER!
I was given a ARC copy of this book with a request for a review if I was willing. Not only Willing, but I would be honored to. This is a story about a a Victorian Age Prision that was sold to a enterprising pair to make into a 142 room Hostel. The problem is that it is Haunted Which the new owners like and want to capitalize on, but Some of the Ghosts are Violent. This is why Sully and Dez are called in.
Another action packed adventure as Des and Sully deal with a prison with a lot of violent inmates who are out for blood after their prison where they are trapped is brought and the owners want to turn it in to a hotel. I love the way the brothers back each other up, how their other halves accept their job and help them, how the good characters all pull together and give Sully and Des help and encouragement, support and what they need to get through the case. This is a very satisfying one to read.
I love the Braddock and Gray books and each one is better than the one before. Sully and Dez are going to prison to send some bad spirits on their way. This book had me thoroughly engaged, the action, the characters and the exciting, spooky storyline. I read it in one sitting. If you enjoy stories with spirits and ghosts, I would highly recommend The Braddock and Gray stories. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Another fabulous book, Sully and Dez are called in to help get rid of violent spirits from an old prison that's been converted into a hotel. Unfortunately one of the owners has also called in tv show ghost hunters. Sully has his work cut out not only with the ghost hunters but the spirits too, he enlists the help of the Reapers. This book had a lot of action and is well worth five stars, in fact I'd give it ten if I could.
Missed Sully and Dez! What a way to bring them back! I have worked in a prison for 20 years and I could have sworn they were in ours! Great detail and great storyline! Read the book in 2 sittings and that was only because I started it late and had to go to sleep! Thank you H.P. Bayne for bringing the guys back and better than ever. Can't wait to see what Dez, Sully,, Flynn, Aiden, and Jack are up against next time!
This. This is EVERYTHING a paranormal/supernatural thriller should be. Sully’s powers are growing with every job he takes. This one expounded his abilities a hundredfold. Dez’s abilities are realized and embraced by him as well. I can’t explain the level of intense excitement and thrill I experienced while reading this book, you NEED to read this book to understand. I loved this book more than I can say.
Please never stop writing these. I have come to love Sully and Dez and all the characters in this series and I'm just here to say you can never stop! Such a wonderful series and this book is just another in a long line of greats. Highly recommend! H.P. Bayne is a masterful storyteller and I can't wait for more!
H.P. Bayne, once again, doesn’t disappoint! This book is set in a Victorian prison which was closed and now getting ready to open as a hostel. But someone or something doesn’t want it to. Hell’s Gate is what they called the last cell the inmates stayed in before being hanged and that’s where this entity plans to stop it. Chilling!
This is a fast paced action packed thriller leaving you with goosebumps all over. This book a homerun for readers. Once you pick it up you can't put it down. I love the series there is enough fear and expectations to keep you wanting more. HP Bayne is on my Stephen King and Dan Patterson shelf. I received ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
I read this fantastic book in 1 day -into the early hours. I couldn’t put it down. I got hooked on the Sullivan Gray series, and I was so happy to see I didn’t have to say goodbye to Sully and his brother Dez, not now that the author has written The Braddock & Gray Case Files. These are standalone books, but you’ll get so much more out of the stories if you read the series first. I’m always fascinated how the author creates such intriguing mysteries, and then weaves the ghost stories into the plot. And this book was the best ghost story I’ve read in a very long time.
♾️/⭐️ The settings are always incredible and make you feel like you’re there, I found this setting particularly spooky especially due to the nature of the investigation. The dynamic between characters is believable and even side/ new characters are fully developed meaning we get to know them instantly. Highly recommend!
This is the the sixth Book and the Braddock &Grey Case File Book Series .
I'm in love with these books this Author delivers one knockout book after the other . I'm never disappointed and I'm always waiting for the next book in this series .
Love this series from the start; characters are amazing, plausible, and feels like a real family. The story line is seamless and continues to build. I couldn’t put the book down and read it start to finish- can’t wait for the next one.
I have loved every single one of the sully books and its one character i will be sad to see go when the series is over … Another amazing story i cant wait for the next one xxx
This series is a must read! The paranormal, the mystery, and the characters are so well written and developed. I can’t wait for more!! I became a fan reading the first book and have become more of a fan with each book in the series.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The series itself is an excellent and interesting series to read and would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes supernatural stories
Although a very good read, the stories feel quite short but I'd rather that than unnecessary waffle! Well rounded, everything is rounded off and you just can't wait to read the next one! Believable and lovable main characters who you can't help but like.
H.P BAYNE is a great author. I'm never disappointed in the books. Always looking forward to another book. Thanks so much for the great reads....and now. on to the next adventure.😄
I have never met Sully and Dez before, but let me tell you, I will be reading more from this series. Like the whole thing. This book was thrilling and fun. Scary but realistic. What an interesting read.
This one is certainly more scary than the ones before, it's brilliant, and certainly had my nerves on edge, fighting ghosts in a closed down prison is something else.
