It's set 7 years after the fact, but it's still a inspirational romantic suspense story about a murdered toddler. Love Inspired books aren't graphic, but stories don't need to be graphic to be dark - so yeah. That's your content warning to start things off.
This is Alward's first suspense novel (and first inspirational as far as I know...) and it's solid. I thought I had it all figured out, but I was only partially correct - so it kept me guessing. She also does a good job of building suspense as the heroine is targeted by someone (the killer) through a series of gaslighting, housebreaking and vandalism.
I have a hard time with romantic suspense and this one didn't annoy me like many of them (sadly) do - so I'm calling it a win. A B- on my personal rating scale.
The yearly anniversary of my little girl’s death! Still no answer for who or why, my grief that I token medicine for a cold and I didn’t realize that my little one left the house. I am still beating myself up over it but I bring the usual to the spot they found her….. horror of horror there is her bunny!
A great read. So much emotion behind the story. Andi losing her daughter, a divorce, and after seven years, someone was following her, trying to make her think she is imagining things. In steps Ryan, her best friend's brother, who helps Andi navigate the problems she is experiencing. You will like the ending!
Danger Next Door is one of those stories that has it all: a compelling plot, likable characters, a worthy relationship, twists and turns that keep you guessing who the villain is, and a happily ever after ending. It’s a hard to put down read.
This is an excellent example of a cold case story in my mind. It is a good read. I particularly like that is is based in Canada and gave a slight look into the RCMP. Andi Wallace is the heartbroken mother of a murdered child. Yes, this is a devastating plot and hard for some readers to take but it is also reality for parents and law officers world-wide. I feel the author handled it well. Officer Ryan Davenport is a man of integrity and lives by his vow to protect. He is fully aware of the case and take the bereaved mother very seriously when an odd occurrence stirs everything up once again. I did figure out who the murderer is early on but questioned myself a couple of times. (Another point for a well written mystery. )
I am looking forward to more LI Cold Case books. My father and other members of my family have been law officers over a good portion of my life so there's a background of interest for me.
While the crime was hard to stomach (the heroine's daughter was murdered), Danger Next Door kept me guessing as I rooted for Andi and Ryan to solve the case and to heal (also for their HEA). The author kept me on my toes trying to figure out the killer. Well done.
If you enjoy inspirational romantic suspense with a grittier side, try Danger Next Door.
This was a good read. Admittedly the cold case crime was a little hard for me as it was the unsolved murder of a three year old, but the mystery was interesting and held my attention. The ending was a good tie up of all the ends and the epilogue provided a happy ending that wasn't forced or super quick. All in all, a good story.
