Kizzy:
I had sex partners, but only one white guy.
Who knew he’d be the leader of the local white supremacist group?
Not I.
I was the last one to know.

Hunt:
The races don’t mix and that’s the law.
But they didn’t tell me about her.

2.5* stars. Usually I really enjoy reading this author's works, but this book was a letdown for me, something missing - maybe because I had such high expectations - most of her other books have been 3-4 stars for me. The premise was great, and nice chemistry between the main couple, and some interesting discussion about race, abuse/addiction etc. I think I dislike that we're thrown into the story at the start with the hero and heroine being f**k buddies, there's no real in depth built up to the relationship, their backgrounds, especially the hero's, why/his motive for joining a racist hate group, and that leads to the length of the book - on my pc, it was only about 150 pages, and only 100 some pages are about the main couple, the rest is the heroine's two friend's interaction with some guys, and then a chapter from her 2018 book Trent, (a book I've read and was great!), so yeah, compared to her other books, this was a letdown. Nice book cover though.

Ms. Turner said she struggled with this story and I can tell, it reads as rushed and unfinished, and there are proofreading/editing issues. Not her best though still an enjoyable read. Hunter and Kizzy are interesting characters with difficult backgrounds and I wanted more of their personal transformations as they came together as a couple.

Come on Black authors. Please stop writing these books about Black women changing racist white men by sleeping with them. This is so gross. Even some of ya'll are writing books about masters falling in love with their slaves. WTF!!!!! A slave can't consent to a relationship. This is not romantic and not cool.

This is one of the strangest romances I ever read. Didn't know whether I was supposed to laugh because early Hunt was so ridiculously hateful or cry that such people exist. I'll read more of these stories now. I liked the author's writing. It's my first story by her so I probably didn't notice much of the negative things from other reviews. Although I also found it strange that the story stops at 70%. I wouldn't have minded more from the main couple!

This is an interracial romance story; a relevant racial tale where love sees no colour in the most unlikely pairing... unfortunately the book missed the mark for me.

--------------------
Main Characters: Kizzy McDaniel: black woman trying to make changes in her life, newly enrolled college student.

Hunter Ford, former leader of a white supremist group, newly enrolled college student.

Story Overview: Kizzy was stuck in a dead end cycle, she wanted more for herself. She was sick of the same old thing every day: go to her dead end job come home, have some friend with benefits come over, sleep, get up repeat.

She's never really felt attraction to any of her friends with benefits, but Hunt has always been one of her favorites. She sees him weekly, he always brings her food and then they spend the night together. One such night when Hunt comes over he sees the community college application and encourages her to go for it. That's all Kizzy needed, someone who believed she could do it.

Kizzy enrolls in college, but before she begins she finds out Hunt is a white supremist... all the time she spent with him she didn't know. How can it work out? She's a proud black woman and he's part of an organisation that believes his race is superior? The realization crushes her and she resolves to move on... but will Hunt let her go?

Hunt begins to pursue Kizzy; he can't let her go that easily... but he realizes she will see right through him if he merely proclaims he's changed. Hunt embarks on a personal journey brought about by the classes he's taking at College... all because of Kizzy.

Can it work? Can someone who had white supremacy change their way of thinking? And can this interracial couple work out?

--------------------
Concluding Thoughts: While this was relevant for this day and age, I felt it was not realistic enough for me. Decent read, just not executed the way I thought it would.

I enjoyed this book. The storyline was so relevant to today’s issues in America. If we just have meaningful conversations with each other and really listen, people of different races will see the similarities and drop all this racism. At least that’s the hope.

I have to admit, I liked Kizzy’s character more than I did Hunt. That is a rarity for me. Usually I fall hard for the guy and the girl is an afterthought. Hunt had some issues, even outside of the racism thing. He was a bit of a stalker and that unnerved me. Though he turned out to be a good guy, you never know what might set a person like him off.

She was the forbidden fruit, he was a supremacist who believed that his race was the superior race … and she was a black young woman trying to find her footing in life. They have been seeing each other for a year without exclusivity & for whatever reason he couldn’t break free of her… When she decided to better her life by going to college, she was indecisive, she never cared for school when she was in high school, hence why she dropped out and got her GED, anyway, Hunt was the one who encouraged her to ho for it, even though he thought that will cause the end of them which would be a loss for him.
She took the plunge and got accepted 🙌🙌
One fine day while doing some shopping, walking down the street, there was a rally where they are white supremacists are screaming their “things” and burning cross, in plain delight… imagine her surprise when the leader of march is none other than her Hunt … she felt dirty snd disgusted.
One fine day, she was in class and someone was asking disruptive questions and next to that person was , well you can guess 😝!?!
Hunt wasn’t going to let Kizzy go, and when a man truly loves a woman he will do about anything, Kizzy opened his eyes to reality and …
See how Hunt’s life changed for the better and him and Kizzy found their HEA.

Enjoyed!

I guess love can make any person change. The story relates to what's going on in our world today with the racist bull sh** .The mom in an abusive relationship and didn't want help. The main two characters I loved how they grown and turned their lives around.

Hunt and Kizzy got me out of my book funk. I enjoyed their story.

I liked how we could “see” Hunt and Kizzy grow.

I hope to read about Hitto, Chelle and Sky in the future.

This is probably the worst book I've ever read. I kept pausing and looking off to an imaginary camera as if I'm in some sitcom like the office. The plot, characters and message was just that out of touch.

More than anything I'm sending prayers to the writer because whichever demon possessed her to write this sediment must have been created before time itself. This literary art is ambitious in it's aims but fails to deliver anything. Not a good romance, not an interesting subplot, not one charming character and not even the finesse of a midly descriptive tongue.

The book is definitely memorable but for all the wrong reasons, but I kept reading it out of pure spite and vitriol. So I'll try to summary as briefly as possible.

Kizzy an African American woman has been hooking up with Hunt a White American man for a year. Their relationship is purely physical. They both have past trauma resulting from neglectful parents and poverty. So Kizzy decides to go to community college to improve her life. She finds Hunt one day leading a street protest. He is the President of a local racist group that branched off from the KKK called The Purebred Society 🫡. Their relationship goes downhill, she moves houses, and cuts off all contact, in response he signs up to the college and stalks her until she responds to him, their relationship progresses from there. Hunt relinquishes his old ways as a purist and bigot. Beds her every time he can and they both get a Bachelor's in African American studies. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

SICK, this book is sick sick work and it reads like a fucking SNL skit.

Now don't get me wrong I think ppl can have a change of views and see the error of their past ways but that is not something that happens overnight, racist idealogies become ingrained into someone by what they are taught growing up and the friends that they keep. Hunt himself said, " There would be no acceptance of her in my tribe. She’d be considered a chimpanzee and I’d probably be the one to go ape shit."
Ik the author felt real funny writing that one. If only her work was that witty. The author expects us to believe that he had sex with a black woman, read some Malcon X said "RIGHT ON BROTHER" , and never looked back. It's 100% possible to be in love with someone of a different race and still hate their kind. And love is a big IF here, this felt more like obsession than love.

Look even if I was to overlook his obvious disdain for the darker race Hunt is also a stalker, a creep, lives in a trailer park, has no job, collects a check from the Purebred Society every fortnight and points a gun at kizzys land lord because he stopped him from banging down her door.

How low is the bar ????? And are u willing to limbo under it ?

Good story

Story was good. The transformation of both Kizzy and Hunt was believable. I just wish the author had followed through with their story more. Throwing in all the little stories with the secondary characters took away from Kizzy and Hunt. I get the author was setting up the next book in the series but it was too much of Sade and Tyrelle. My issues with yhe book mostly involve editing. Or lack of. There was no timing for some parts of the main characters lives. For instance, transferring to a four year college was a big deal for both of them. And i would love to have learned a bit more about Hunt's work. The poor editing (punctuation, sentence structure, the epilogues ) was annoying.
The author's writing style fluctuates from book to book. My favorite book is Cole. Beautifully written, well thought out story and good editing.
This one needed some more care.
Ms. Turner knows how to get you hooked on a series. But what usually begins as a well crafted story in book one, turns into a rushed series of epilogues and stories with no clear time line.

honestly, i don’t know how to feel about this book, it’s like a horrible fever dream but at the same time it isn’t that bad, i feel like it lacked something. the book talks about white supremacy, racism, ignorance, and just lack of education and empathy, and even though we see the male character change of mind and heart, i still feel like the process of him educating himself, searching for information, the whole Malcolm X thing, should have been treated with a much more profound and longer perspective, the book it’s just too short and vague with the matter, it could have been better, but whatever

No

First I want to say read The 'N' Word by Tiana Laveen. She did a Phenomenal job of writing a book with this subject matter. This was just not Believable. The ending didn't make any sense. There was no struggle from Hunt. I wanted to see both of the struggle with their feelings and emotions. Reading books, watching documentaries, and talking to professors will not stop you from being racist. Hunt and Kizzy both needed therapy. Just no. The end with Chelle and Sade I am not sure what point was.

Felt like the first 25% was missing

No exploration as to how they went from casual sex partners to "in love." Hunt's transformation didn't make sense. I've read other books that did a better job exploring the whole "racist falls in love with a person of color" genre. No sure how this book is getting good reviews.

Meh, maybe 1.5 stars,

The flow was way off. I think with more character development, maybe it would've been better. No great description of characters, what did they even look like besides their race??? There wasn't a wow factor at all. No hot sex scenes, not much on the racial division...just not. Yes, he was able to wake up and smell the coffee but the story felt incomplete.

Not as bad as some of the reviews...but I get the issues

I have mixed feelings about this book. Loved to see the progression of Kizzy, loved that she stood her ground in many ways when Hunt was stalking...I mean pursuing her and that you see his transformation, love story develop, etc. However, it perplexed me that she is firm in what she says but I am trying to understand how you discover he's a whyte supremesist and y'all stumble back into sex after he stalks and bullies his way into your life. You ain't even trying to get a restraining order, get no type of protection, no nothing...and how he so strong in his beliefs but don't understand her fear of him, you are calling her sweetheart... I enjoy that the author is trying to show us his conflict and how you see him battling his beliefs with his desires and how that very much is in conflict. I don't understand Kizzy's side of how he gets back to her, you allow sex when you know he hates who u are. However given her hx with her mom, it may explain her choices. And also slave master loving & yet raping slaves...very challenging subject to address in an IR romance. I'm also not sold on him walking away from his "organization" so easily with very little conflict and backlash. Nice book in general, addressed a very unlikely relationship. Also another gripe, what's with the stories at the end of all these different characters that you start, giving snippets...maybe there more to come🤷🏾‍♀️

They came from similar disfunctional backgrounds

Kizzy McDaniels was no Boo Boo the Fool. After she saw Hunter Ford at that protest, she knew what he was even though they were friends with benefits. Hunter knew there was something different about Kizzy and he just had to convince her to give them another chance. He encouraged her to go to the Community College because she was tired of the life she was leading and she deserved so much more out of life. The job she had was barely making ends meet. When Hunter joined her in college, he realized that he was poorly educated and wanted to know more so he can give him and Kizzy a chance at a good life. She was the only person that made him feel complete, no matter what color she was and he was not giving her up, regardless of the brotherhood he once belonged to.

The story was well written taking in all of the situations an inter-racial couple would find themselves in, especially one who was a part of a supremacist group. The love for each other and Hunter's need to learn more kept them together to meet the goals they set for themselves of educations, love, and marriage.

I'm interested to find out who Sky is and why he is so interested in Chelle. I'm not talking about Tyrell and Sade. HAWT HAWT HAWT, that's all I'm saying!

FAVORITE QUOTE "Stop blaming others for where you are in life. It’s not their fault, because you are the author of your story. Blaming other people for where you are, makes them the author."

4.00 Stars. (BW/WM). Kindle Edition e-b00k. The hero, Hunter "Hunts" Ford, is the product of a broken home and was raised by a white Supremest promiscuous drug addicted mother who ultimately died of cancer. Hunter is the former president and member in good standing of Purebred Society, a White Supremacy Group. The heroine, Kissy McDaniel, was raised in a drunkard mother and step-father and routinely witnessed her step-father beat her mother. Hunter and Kissy met when Kizzy was approached to register to vote. The protagonists when from like minded political cynics to friends with benefits to estranged ex-f--k buddies, back to supportive friends to lovers who traverse rocky roads to man and wife. The author's storyline allow the reader witness the hero and the heroine grow and mature as individuals and as a supportive couple with undeniable sexual chemistry. The author also masterfully addresses the following subjects without allowing these subjects to over power the romance story of the protagonists: the divisive and abrasive subject of racism and the impact to the adult behavior whose childhood is from a hostile substance abusing dysfunctional family. I enjoyed this story and would like to read stories on these couples: Hitto & Tiff, Chelle & Sky, Sade & Tyrell.

Despite my initial misgivings about this story I really enjoyed it. Kizzy and Hunt were fuck-buddies for a year before Kizzy found Hunt marching down the street leading a white lives matter parade. I loved how Kizzy didn't hesitate to dump his ass, even deciding to move closer to community college to start over. Hunt didn't endear himself to me at first until I saw how similar his and Kizzy's lives were growing up. Both had mothers with addictions and suffered neglect. Both were willing to shed the baggage of people holding them back. I loved how Hunt was willing to confront his beliefs and educate himself instead of waiting for Kizzy to teach him the value of her humanity. The guy gave good grovel and I didn't mind his stalking at all. Can I say how much I loved professor Cullen and Daddy Tyrell (my lawd)? Those two side characters really cracked me up. I was worried about the club coming after Hunt and doing worse than attacking him. We know how that would've gone down in RL. There were a few errors and I would've preferred the epilogue be about Kizzy and Hunt instead of setting up future books for side characters. Kinda want to read Hitto's book though.

Definitely a great novel. Super fast paced but hey, there was a lot of spicy scenes in here- my Goodness!

I really enjoyed the fact that Kizzie and Hunt both have it hard. He is from the harsh trailer park life and she lives in the hood. No one has it easy here, but I admire Kizzie for striving for what's best for her because let me tell you, her and her friend had ratchet thoughts and behaviors.

Hunt kept a huge secret from her. His behind was a white supremacist, but Kizzie's reaction was Gold. She did not care how well he put it down in the bedroom or how handsome he was, she left him after learning about his racism.

However, the kicker is that Hunt wants her....badly and it was his hunt for her that kept me turning the pages. Their chemistry was explosive but interestingly enough were the minor characters' parts that were just as explosive- (Tyrell &Sade, Chell& Sky).

The overall message seems to be that love has no color. Yes, we see color, but that is what makes all of us wonderful, if only we can appreciate each other.

Great story.

Forbidden romance is always addicting

I loved Lizzy she was funny but strong and took the steps to get her life together and after finding out about hunt ass wasn't going for it, she did give in but I get it after seeing him try to change as well as his take no for an answer approach. And like I said forbidden lust that turns into love is always a dramatic yet exciting panty dropping tale . Hunt was a asshole with no understanding but eventually came to see the error of his ways and quite frankly I like his character as well as his love for kizzy. Some reader don't like racist love stories but will be perfectly fine with the dark dangerous side of black love if it's not for you it's not for you but going from hate to love cause you just can't help it always give me a haha you like the chocolate type of attitude in these type of stories 10/10 for the whole story and character development will recommend and reread as well as read more fron this writer.

Good read

I love this author and I love how her books make you think and take a moment to re-examine what you thought you knew about love, life, relationships, race and sex. Her characters are relatable and in this particular book, you get the same treatment. Xyla doesn’t treat her readers like fools. She creates strong, smart and complex heroines that you can respect and sexy, strong, assertive heroes that you want to throttle first and then hug afterward (over here hoping Hunt’s stalker tendencies lessened over time lol).

I felt like Kizzy and Hunt went through quite a bit and had to overcome some VERY big obstacles that sometimes felt insurmountable to get to their HEA. I can’t wait to read more about Chelle, Sade, Tiff and Tyrell’s crazy asses and to catch up on Kizzy and Hunt through the rest of the series. Great job again, Xyla!

I love Xyla Turner, and I didn't know what to expect with this book. Hunt and Kizzie were a couple that made sense. The similarities in their lives are what brought them together, and their desires of improving themselves is what kept them together. Hunt and Kizzie had immense chemistry and them being together was outside of the norm for both of them. Hunt is part of radical white brotherhood group and Kizzie is just a girl living life with everything at a bare minimum in sense. Their weekly trysts consist of sex and food to begin with. Somewhere down the line feelings develop and secrets come to light that they cant ignore. Hunt feels he has found his soulmate in Kizzie, and he needs her to see that. Its truly a fun story and its beautiful. its proof that people can change and that differences can be overcome.

Not an easy read.

As a huge fan of Xyla Turner I have to say this was not an easy book to read. Knowing what the synopsis said and reading it, I found it had very mixed emotions about the characters. On one hand I couldn't grapple with Hunt being a fully purebred white supremacist and having sex with a black woman. And then being in charge of a Klan rally right after a sexton with Kizzy! I have to admit Xyla Turner shook me up with this book. She pushed me out of my comfort zone for sure. I appreciate how these two characters evolved throughout the book. Hunt realizing the lies he'd been fed all of this life. And Kizzy learning to forgive the ppl in her life so she could be free 100%. And the end? Woo! The end blew my mind! I would've given 5 ⭐, but the story didn't grab me like her previous books. But this book is definitely a good read.

I had doubts

I had my doubts going into this book, but I have to say this was well written. Hunts white supremacy was no different than gang members looking for that family feeling. The rhetoric was different but the outcome is still the same nobody understands you but us we will stand by you. Hunt was open to change and willing to learn which is the big difference. Kizzy had her own issues which ironically mirrored Hunts. She used sex and different men to mask her demons. The fact that she was upset when she found out Hunt was a White Supremest should not have matter as she never really dug deep with the men she was sleeping with. Literally two broken people find the strength to change and lay a better foundation for those who come after.

Xyla Turner is a artist of the written word. She's new to me, but I'm slowly working my way through all of her books. She tackled a serious issue going on in America right now. RACE. She also did it in a way that everyone could understand which is a love story. And when I say it's hot, please hold on to your lace front because it will snatch your edges off. Hunt and Kizzy is a story of redemption, acceptance, and love that knows no race or boundaries. It's a page turner that is told in different points of view, no cheating, and has a hea. I highly recommend this book. I also recommend you getting to know Xyla Turner. She's now a one click author for me.

First time reader - Absolutely amazing book

Kizzy and Hunter are amazing well rounded characters. This author wrote her soul into these characters. I felt all the dreams, the drama, the passion (🤩), the love ❤️ and the resolve.

This story mirrored real life events. It detailed beauty being skin deep and knowing no color. These characters motivate each other to be great, better than their original self when they first met.

I’m so greedy for more from this series and this author. Until I get my next fill I have decided to read another one of this author’s series.

Honestly, I don’t know if anything can beat Kizzy and Hunt’s passion.

We will see…

Happy reading and wine drinking.
