La mia magica vacanza in Grecia

Rate this book

Favorite Quotes:

He could imagine the raised eyes in the village… the not-so-whispered gossip of the village’s president like a rally bullhorn. Greek men didn’t get left like that. Greek men absolutely never got left for a woman… if it didn’t happen in mythology it didn’t exist.

Are you a prostitute? You know, not one of those ones who stand on street corners wearing clothes that look like the 1980s threw up all over them. I mean one of the ones who suck off politicians and pop stars in classy hotels… Oh my God! I guessed it right, didn’t I?! Well, you’re a dark horse. I didn’t really have you pegged for that when you said you hadn’t ever had sex in a plane toilet.

‘The army?’ Petra said, screwing up her face as if ‘the army’ was gone-off chicken no longer fit for human consumption. ‘To be honest the sex trade was more believable. What are you? A captain or something? Sitting behind a desk all day planning assaults?’

Only me. My mother will tell you that as I was ten pounds in weight and it felt like she was evacuating a watermelon. There was no way she was going to repeat the experience… You laugh at me? Being a child on my own growing up. No one to play with because my head was too large?… You are now thinking of me with a watermelon for a head, are you not?

My Review:

At five-hundred-twenty-eight pages, this slowly developing story was cleverly interwoven with humorous yet emotive subplots and secondary story threads that provided vibrant strokes of color and a great deal of texture to the uniquely quirky and oddly captivating characters. I was pleasantly surprised how all the sneakily placed little tidbits skillfully merged together at the end for my highly prized HEA. I smirked, giggle-snorted, and gasped my way through this gastronomical delight, which teased and taunted my various appetites and was rather destructive to my dieting efforts – but any excuse will do ;)

Really good summer read.
I laughed out loud again and again.
Visiting some of the Greek islands is one of my dreams which I can hopefully make come true some day.
The first few chapters started a bit slow for me, but after the "adventure" began I loved it!
Great characters and a great story.

I have always been a fan of Manday Baggot’s books, so I was excited to see that she had another book coming out.
Becky Rowe works for a catering company called It’s a wrap with her sister Megan and two other girls Hazel and Shelley making sandwiches all day, working all hours. When after a disagreement with her sister Megan regarding a quote for a catering for a party at a nursing home. She is advised to take a holiday. She decides to take a holiday to her annoyance of her sister Megan. She sees an advert for someone to house sit a villa in Corfu for two weeks on a website. So, she applies and is accepted.
On the plane on the way to Corfu, she can’t believe her luck when a Greek God called Elias sits next to her on the plane. They start talking and there is an instant attraction. But she knows nothing will happen as they are not going the same place. Until there is a problem with the weather and instead, they land in Kefalonia overnight. They end up having a meal together and meet Petra and the three become friends.
Thank you NetGalley and Aria for a copy of My Greek Island Summer. This is another great book from Manday Baggot full of love, quirky characters, romance and laughs. This will be a great book to take on holiday with when you are on the beach. The only downside for this for the first few chapters I found it hard to get into. But I am so glad I preserved, as it did became the Manday Baggot romance that I have grew to love. Four stars from me.

*Revelations in Corfu*

Becky is enjoying life working at her sister’s sandwich making business, she seems to have the knack for flavours and creating different fillings and wraps that others are not offering. She feels like she has been running things and keeping the business together and the last straw is when her relationship falls apart and in a matter of weeks he is dating her sister. Something has to change, so when a house sitting opportunity comes up in Corfu she feels she must jump at it. She has never taken hardly any holidays from work and feels she deserves it.

Well she wanted a change, she meets a man Elias who himself is going to Corfu on business he is a lawyer and is nursing heartbreak that he never discusses.

Their travel to Corfu is not straightforward and a young woman called Petra kind of joins them on route and she too is there for reasons that she holds tight to lips and presents a fun and anything goes persona why?

Becky was quite taken with Elias on the journey and he keeps coming into her head when he turns up at the Villa where she is staying, why? Could it be a coincidence?

This story was a bit of a discovery for them all in different ways, there are lol moments, touches of romance and misunderstandings and more with the wonderful backdrop of Greece….

I listened to the audiobook and I felt that the narrator Emma Powell did really good job with the accents and the male voices.

Thanks to #NetGalley for allowing me to read the e-ARC of #MyGreekIslandSummer for my honest review.
The book intrigued me because of the title. I am part Greek but never been to Corfu or Kefalonia, by reading a book is a way to travel you haven't be.
My Greek Island Summer is a summer rom-com but is a book where all the characters, primary and secondary, get into a journey to find themselves as well as find forgiveness.
Yes, there are likable characters, and there were others that are less loved, but they make this angsty story.
The idea housesitting in a place that you are vacationing is awe-inspiring and a great one.
Becky and Elia's romance for me is building with correct pacing.
My Greek Island Summer is a3.5- stars, and for sure, I will read the other 19 backlist books that Mandy Baggot has published.

This is the best way to do a bit of island hopping whilst we are still in lockdown! Mandy takes us to Corfu, with an unexpected visit to Athens and Kefalonia, bringing the sights and sounds of the area to life as this lovely summer tale unfolds.
I have spent time in all three places, but the beautiful descriptions have tempted me to revisit them and experience more of the culture in these stunning locations as well as the usual beachside temptations.
This is a lovely summer story of self discovery and romance in a perfect Greek setting.

A beautiful read so filled with quirky characters and plot twists that I was completely amused and entertained with this story. Twists, you ask? Aye, the flight to Corfu Island made some stops due to missed connection and flight turbulence. Author Mandy Baggot then went right ahead to fill it with delightful scenes and lovable characters, especially Petra, that had me feeling as if I were right there with Becky and Elias and their group.

Becky had a disagreement with her sister. She needed a break. Seeing an ad for house-sitter in Corfu Island, she decided to go on vacation. Elias the hunk was on the seat next to her. They got to talking. There were few hiccups in the flight and a winding road via Athens and Greece brought the entire group closer. Until Becky reached Corfu Island, all ready to enjoy her time on the beach until Elias turned up at the house. It seemed he had quite an unknown connection.

Having read a few book by this talented writer, I knew I was in for a sweet ride. The book was longer than I was used to and slightly slow in the beginning, but the sparks and zesty scenes took off along with their flight. There were other kooky characters who added humor and tangy saltiness to the prose. The story slowly pulled me in with the different plot lines.

I was quite amazed at how the author could develop all the characters within the story. Equal importance was given to each of their parts, and all of them were linked well. Romance and attraction were the cornerstones of this happily ever after.

Friendships and family and beautiful descriptions of the locales transported me to a different world on a lazy weekend. Captivating read, I would say.

Greek sexy man.... check!
Delicious sounding Greek food.... check!
A longing to jump on a plane while reading.... check!
Wonderful heroine, prickly sister and new friend who is hilarious.... check!

I mean what more do you want from a Mandy Baggot book? Especially as this was her 20th story, and shes is an absolute master of her craft.

It is amazing how much was packed into the book even before they land in Corfu. We have unexpected extra sightseeing and some of the Athens descriptions matched my memories of the place and I could see everything so clearly.

Then there is what is awaiting them in the villa which made me laugh. Easily the most unexpected contents of a bath tub ever!!

Petra, Becky's new friend, let's call her is a breath of fresh air. I loved all of her travelling anecdotes and her lack of pretension when it comes to men.

Then there is Becky and Megan's sandwich business, and fractured sibling relationship to discover.

Oh and Elias and Eleni are fabulous, I loved their interactions, and also just everything about Elias.

I just loved every single second of this book.

What I love about stories like this is the way you can travel just from the safety of your armchair. If you are looking to loose yourself in a story that will let you escape the world at this troubling time, then this, and well any of this authors Greek set books are just what the doctor ordered.

Thank you to Aria and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Rating: 3/5

This book is about Becky, who works for her sister for a while and after feeling frustrated because her sister didn't trust her judgement regarding a "business" decision, she decided to do something adventurous for the first time in her life, so she takes a job housesitting in a villa in Greece, but on the way to Corfu, a lot of things go wrong (or right depending on how you see it).She has a lot of problems with the flights and she meets Elias, a lawyer and Petra, a free spirit, and the completely opposite of her.

This was my first contact with this author's writing and I liked it. The writing is really compelling and it got me hooked from page one. The characters are also interesting. Elias is very cute, and Petra, even though annoying at times, it's funny and they were good side characters. On the other hand, her sister annoyed the hell out of me and even thought I tried to understand her, I just couldn't.

Becky is nice and all, but I just couldn't connect with her as much as I should. She also had some funny moments, but most of the time, I felt kind of indifferent towards her, and since she was the protagonist, it was a bit of a problem. The romance was nice as well, but that was it. It wasn't as breathtaking as I hoped it would be.

Overwall, it's a nice book and I recommend it as a light summer read, but it was not an amazing one.

So, I'm going to be honest here.

The beginning of this book was like a 2 1/2 stars for me. I had a hard time getting into it and it was a bit rambly.

But then they finally got to Corfu and it all changed. The last 1/3 of the book is 5 stars. I loved Becky and Elias, and how perfectly imperfect they started fitting into each other.

Petra was just right as the a dramatic comic relief (poor girl) and Elias' parents, especially Eleni, were really good too.

The setting was done so well. It really brought out the Greek flavor in everything and now I want to go there.

A really good read and I'm happy to recommend it.

I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

I was close to DNF-ing after a few chapters. Megan too full of herself, Becky a doormat, and a deluge of pop culture references someone who doesn't normally watch TV won't get. I'm glad I kept going though. Once Becky left for her vacation things changed completely. I got immersed in the Greek atmosphere (best way to travel at this time...), I appreciated the slowly developing attraction and rooted for the characters. Bonus points for no explicit scenes. A relaxing and enjoyable summer escapade!

Only my 2nd book by this author ( and she has written 20) and it was a delight to read. You can't help but like the main character of Becky - put upon and feeling hard done by she embarks on her own adventure. The book follows her in her journey along with a cast of fabulous supporting characters. This was a perfect book to read during lockdown as it transports you to Corfu to escape real life. I was lucky enough to take part in the blog tour for this release.

Well, that was another gorgeous 5 Star read from the lovely Mandy Baggot. I know that I am always guaranteed a good time when I start a Mandy Baggot novel, and this one was no different. I loved everything about this book, the characters, the story, the setting. Mandy knows Greece and Corfu and really brings it to life. I've only been to Greece once before (Rhodes) and I want to go back to visit Corfu. One thing Mandy knows and does very well is her heroes. Elias is simply delicious. Everything about him was so charming and sexy, and I may have giggled out loud when it mentioned a 'stiffening' in his speedos!
If you haven't read a Mandy Baggot book yet then you really need to. 'My Greek Island Summer' is sheer perfection and I enjoyed every page of it.

Becky has had enough and wants a break from her bossy sister and so heads off to house sit in Greece as part of a holiday getaway.

On the way, she meets Elias a lawyer helping his clients settle their divorce which is complicated with houses and finances to split.

Having to navigate her life helping out house sitting and dealing with her new travel buddy as she and Elias t to know each other properly despite their beginning getting to know each other the story made me laugh and kept me hooked it was a super sweet summer romance!

I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure as the holiday/house sitting gets off to become an adventure with the many stops along the way the story was similar to Hallmark film, A Cinderella Story only without the Christmas setting but two sisters running a sandwich/catering business and one bossy, one less so etc and a cute guy etc all were reminiscent of the film but worked so well in this summer book so if you enjoy this you'll enjoy that film too especially now during isolation!

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

The Blurb :
Becky Rose has just landed her dream job house-sitting at a top-end villa on the island of Corfu. What could be better than two weeks laying by an infinity pool overlooking the gorgeous Ionian waters while mending her broken heart.
Elias Mardas is travelling back to Corfu on business whilst dealing with his own personal demons. Late arriving in Athens, Becky and Elias have to spend a night in the Greek capital. When they have to emergency land in Kefalonia, Becky's got to decide whether to suck up the adventure and this gorgeous companion she seems to have been thrown together with or panic about when she's going to arrive at Corfu...

My Thoughts :
Huge fan of Mandy Baggot, So was pleased to read her latest release My Greek Island Summer.
Escapism was what was needed during this difficult time we are currently having across the globe.
Here we meet Becky Rose, she currently works for her sister Megan’s Sandwich making business named Its a wrap.
Having had enough, Becky decides to head out to Corfu to a beautiful villa for 2 weeks to housesit after seeing an advert. Becky feels she needs this time to get away from her sister and all that is goin on at work.
Add to the mix handsome Elias Mardas, who Becky meets on the plane. He is also on the way to Corfu for work. When the couple meet there is an instant spark but Becky doesnt think anything of it that is until they have to spend the night in Athens as they miss their connecting flight to Corfu. Bad weather conditions then lead them to having to spend the night in Kefalonia. Can Becky and Elias become more than friends and will romance blossom!?.
I also enjoyed reading about the supporting cast and had a soft spot for Petra.
Mandy Baggot once again delivers a fast paced smasher of a story, one that is full of love, laughs, friendships and likeable charactors.
Counting on her next book coming soon.

What a great read this book turned out to be, though I really shouldn’t have been surprised as I’ve really enjoyed everything I’ve read by Mandy Baggot. I’ve also discovered this is her twentieth published novel so I’ve got some more of her books to look out for and read in future!

The heroine of this story is Becky Rose. She’s a highly talented sandwich and wrap creator, with a superb sense of taste that enables her to mix unlikely fillings that work brilliantly together. However, she does this in her sister’s shop and her sister comes across as someone who really doesn’t appreciate the work of Becky. When Becky, fuming from her sister’s attitude, discovers she can have a fortnight in Corfu house sitting, she jumps at the chance. However, nothing is going to go smoothly for her as the journey involves delays, missed connections, stop overs and making two new friends! That’s all before she gets to Corfu which is when all the fun really starts . . .

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, such a fun read to escape into! It is a skilful mix of romance, family dramas, friendship and secrets intertwined to make a delightful page turner and a heartwarming story. I have no hesitation in highly recommending it!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.

With a storm raging outside this weekend, Mandy Baggot’s new novel My Greek Island Summer was the perfect antidote to the bad weather.

Becky has just landed get dream job house sitting in Corfu. She’s looking forward to a relaxing time laying by the pool overlooking the beach. Elias is returning to his home island of Corfu on business but also hoping to put some demons to rest. By chance they meet on the plane then end up missing their connecting flight so have to stay in Athens overnight. Add in another nightmare flight with an emergency landing in Kefalonia and they finally make it to Corfu. Becky is looking forward to putting her nightmare journey and Elias behind her until her turns up at her villa.

Brilliantly written, I fell in love with the characters straightaway. It will make you laugh, smile and feel very hungry as Mandy describes all of the Greek delicacies.

I would rate this book 4.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Aria and the author for the chance to review.

Never has there been a better time to let a book transport you to the beaches of a Greek Island and it is currently the best way to vicariously soak up some foreign sunshine and feel like you’re on that long awaited holiday abroad.

Becky Rose works for her sister’s sandwich company and while she is very passionate about what she does she’s starting to feel like its not the best place for her. Megan is the ultimate small businesswoman and makes Becky feel inadequate just by being there. So when she sees an advert for someone to housesit a beautiful beach house on Corfu for two weeks it feels like the perfect solution for everyone.

Elias Mardas is travelling back to Corfu on business. He has been avoiding his family home for some time now and the last thing he wants is to face the truths that being back in Greece force him to confront. When their flight to Athens is delayed and they miss the connecting flight to Corfu Becky and Elias have to spend the evening together in the capital.

When the night in Athens then becomes a second night in Kefalonia after their plane has to make an emergency landing Becky has to decide to embrace the uncertainty and adventure or to walk away from the dashing Greek man whose fate has suddenly became intertwined with hers.

Its a fun story that beautifully describes both the scenery and the people of Greece and I defy you not to be hunting in the fridge for a slab of feta cheese and a glass of Metaxa as you read this book. Baggot does an amazing job of making you feel like you’re right there on the island with them and let’s face it for most of us it might be the closest thing we get to a foreign holiday this year.

Supplied by Net Galley and Aria in exchange for an honest review. I’m really excited to be part of the Blog Tour for this release.

UK Publication Date: April 2 2020. 380 pages. Currently included in Kindle Unlimited in the UK.

Another delightful novel from Mandy Baggot and another set on the sunny, picturesque island of Corfu, a clear favourite of Ms Baggot.

Becky works at her sister’s sandwich shop, although there are tensions between them both and her sister doesn’t know that Becky has been secretly creating off-menu recipes to keep the business going and doesn’t seem to value Becky’s contribution to the business as she sees it. Becky decides she’s had enough and books herself leave without her sister’s permission and sets off for a housesitting job in Corfu.

On route, she meets Elias, a divorce lawyer haunted by his own divorce after his wife left him for another woman. He is returning to Corfu to assess a property for his latest client and also visit his parents, something he has avoided since his divorce. Neither Becky nor Elias are completely honest with the other, yet they are drawn to each other.

Rounding out the group in this delightful story is free-spirit Petra who despite her wild child and carefree outer persona, she is also hiding a tragic secret in her past.

Add in Elias’ parents and the rest of the Greek locals, you have a fun-packed story with all of the characters having a breakthrough and working through their demons and creating a delightful tale complete with beautifully described scenery and vivid details making you feel you were baking in the heat right along with Becky, Elias and Petra.

I am looking forward to reading more from Mandy Baggot in the future and working on her back catalogue also.

If you want to be whisked away to a sunny holiday destination, look no further than this amusing romantic comedy by Many Baggot.
At the start I didn't really warm to Becky as a character, my feelings were slightly luke warm, but the rather calamitous start to Becky's trip away did make me giggle and Petra as a character was laugh out loud funny. I would love to revisit her in her own book, can this happen? The growth of both of these characters as well as Elias (the love interest) throughout was lovely to witness and the hidden depth to Petra was a great addition, but it was the friendship between the girls that really made me like this book.
The descriptions of Corfu, had me wanting to pack my suitcase up and don my sunglasses, but alas that cannot happen at the moment.
So if you want to escape to a sunnier climb in your head, then why not give this a try.
My thanks to the publisher for the gifted copy.

Perfect escapism - I absolutely loved this novel, the scenery is idyllic and the food sounds scrumptious!

The storytelling is beautiful, I was completely absorbed in the lives of Becky, Petra, and Elias. Filled with laugh-out-loud moments and a few more poignant ones too, you'll soon be hooked, torn between reading it as fast a possible so can see how it all turns out and not wanting it to end.

Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Another great book from Mandy, just what I needed to take my mind of what is happening in the world at the moment.

Becky meets Elias on a plane to Corfu. She is escaping from real life for 2 weeks looking after someone’s home whilst they are out of the country. Elias is a lawyer going to Corfu to help with a divorce case he is working on. Little do they know their paths will cross and they will fall in love.

After reading the synopsis for My Greek Island Summer by Mandy Baggot, I expected a fun and lighthearted holiday romance, full of beautiful greek culture, and I got that and more.

The characters are likeable and easy to relate to. The writing style is paced well and flows freely. But the most amazing part of the book for me is the wonderful descriptions of Greece and the various places the characters visited. Mandy paints a picture of an enchanting island getaway with alluring views and plenty of cultural heritage. It made me desperately want to visit Corfu which is somewhere I’ve never been. It also made me really hungry with all the amazing food 😂

The romance between Becky and Elias is so cute. I loved the slow burn build up and the challenges each of them faced with their past relationships. Added to that, Petra was a delight I didn’t realise I needed. I loved her lust for life (and other things!).

Having read this during the time of the Covid-19 lockdown, being able to get lost in such an amazing location was just what I needed.

Although this is Mandy’s 20th book it’s the first book of hers I’ve read and after this one I’ll definitely be picking up more of her back catalogue!
