When a cold-case serial killer returns, FBI special agent Fiona Kelly has one last chance to stop him before he claims the prize he’s always wanted—her.
The sight of a goose feather at a murder scene modeled after a children’s poem is enough to make FBI special agent Fiona Kelly's blood turn to ice. Almost two decades ago, a feather was left with her sister's body—and with every subsequent victim of the Nursery Rhyme Killer. Now he's back. Only this time, his latest gruesome murder is a message to the only one who ever got away: Fiona.
Finding “Rhyme” is an obsession that's fueled Fiona's career—and destroyed her marriage to fellow FBI agent Asa Kodiak. Now Fiona and Asa have to put their past tensions aside and work together one last time. But Rhyme is watching, and catching this killer may force Fiona to reveal her biggest, darkest secret…the one only he knows.

THE PLOT
FBI special agent Fiona Kelly escaped a serial killer two decades ago, and now he's back and coming for her.
MY OPINION
I was very excited to read this as the synopsis was everything I liked: serial killer, victim had escaped, face off between killer and victim. The prologue set the tone for what I thought would be a good book. And from there it tumbled downhill. Despite a riveting storyline, I found myself speed-reading through this just so it would end. Tbh, if it wasn't a NetGalley book, I would've DNF-ed. But alas, I slogged my way to the end.
So, why didn't this work? TOO. MANY. MFN. DETAILS. Lord have mercy. I knew I was in for it when FBI agent Asa Kodiak arrived on the scene of the rhyme murder and the author legit described every single movement from Asa's car to the crime scene. Literally wrote about him showing his badge and ducking under the police tape. Was this necessary????? No. Once again, closed captions/trying to hit a word minimum on an essay vibes.
Anyways. I was too overwhelmed and annoyed by the unnecessary details, I failed to get into what could've been an interesting story.
PROS AND CONS
Pros: great synopsis—you got me ass there Cons: Dreadful overly detailed writing resulting in snail-like pace
I received this book from a Goodreads Giveaway. I honestly wasn't sure if I would end up liking it as I'm not usually into legal or detective thrillers. However, after reading this book I'm in awe!!! So shocking and literally gripped me the entire time. Great twists you won't expect and truly suspenseful. This book absolutely does not disappoint!!! The main character was actually a victim of the killer (not a spoiler, explains this in first chapter of the book), same killer they chasing after so it made it even crazier and interesting to me. Loved the character development throughout the story. The ending was eye opening and absolutely crazy!!!
WOW! What a ride this book is! Patch packed quite a punch in this psychological thriller. The book is about a serial killer who is obsessed with the heroine Fiona. She is with a special task force dedicated to solving strange crimes. Her ex husband, Asa has his hands full trying to solve the case and protect his heart as well..
This book is action packed and I couldn't put it down. I just knew I knew who the bad guy was, but I did not. There are twists and turns that make this book the ride that it is. All the characters in the book are intriguing and the setting is in Memphis. My hometown so I knew this was gonna be a fascinating story. And it was. I look forward to more books in the series.
*I was given a copy of the book by the publisher and this is my honest opinion.
Agent Fiona Kelly has a dark past, one that’s fueled her to find twisted killers. Her obsession to find The Nursery Rhyme Killer, a man who killed her sister but let her go twenty years earlier became her main focus at the expense of her marriage. When her husband, Asa, also an FBI Agent, asked for a divorce she pulled up stakes and transferred to Chicago. Her failed marriage is still a fresh hurt, one she intends to move on from, but a new killing has her returning back home to Memphis to investigate right alongside Asa, and his new girlfriend.
I was really intrigued by the premise of Her Darkest Secret. I like the idea of a former victim turning things around and becoming the hunter instead of the hunted. And the idea of being forced to work with your ex, a great situation to work out what went wrong and have a second chance to make it right. It all sounded great to me. However, I didn’t know Asa would have a girlfriend for more than half of the story a complication I’m not a fan of in a romance. I don’t like another woman in the mix with old feelings and attractions swirling about. Yes, the mystery was interesting and had me on edge, but the romance situation was less than desirable and a big distraction for me. I also feel the story could’ve been edited down, I ended up skimming quite a bit. A copy was kindly provided by Harlequin Love Inspired Trade in exchange for an honest review.
'She'd been learning to think like a killer much longer than her career with the FBI.'
This book is so worthy of more than the allowable 5 stars. From the prologue, the book is absolutely un-put-downable! I have been a Jessica Patch fan since I read her first book. I've read all of hers, some of them twice, and I've never tired of them one bit. With this one, however, Patch's talent has only grown, and greatly. In fact, I was astounded at how great it was! I was captivated from page one, and it never wavered.
Patch has created characters that seem to just leap off the page and into the reader's mind. And their emotions practically ping into your heart. One such scene was so intense, it had my heart hurting for them. Never have I seen such raw emotion from a book character. This writing is brilliant and crazy good!
'The killer had declared war. Asa would give him the fight of his life and hope it was enough.'
Patch has created an insanely bad villain. The story is gritty, chilling and so frightening. I found myself gasping numerous times during the reading. Patch ratchets up the suspense all along and races toward an ending no one will envision. No one! I was completely taken by surprise by it. She manages to weave everything together perfectly to write the very best suspense novel I've ever read. Bar none.
I especially enjoyed how Patch has the FBI team operating so seamlessly. The secondary characters are also very real to this reader. This is WAY better than any crime show. Hands down.
'God had proven once again that Fiona wasn't worth listening to.'
Let me also mention that the spiritual thread, while subtle, was very powerful indeed. I loved how the author ties this in with the horrific things that happen in this book. One reviewer called it a taut psychological thriller and I completely agree. Taut and intense are two adjectives that describe it perfectly. I am so looking forward to more books in this series. Bravo! Well done!
My thanks to Love Inspired Publishers for a copy of this book via the Net Galley platform. The opinion in this review is expressly my own.
Intense, gritty crime novel. This one kept me on my toes and I could not figure out who the nursery rhyme killer was. Talk about playing mind games. The hero, Asa and heroine, Fiona are ex husband and wife but they have to work together on this latest case. Lots of danger and psychological puzzles to work out. And many, many suspects to sort through. These cases go back many years so there is much evidence to confuse the present case. I was struck by the rawness of some scenes. I was not expecting some things to happen. I appreciated that the author showed spiritual groth in Asa and an awakening in Fiona. The Gospel was clearly spelled out. The theme of wearing masks and revealing lies was potent. Redemption and healing faith were prevelant. *I won this book from the authors newsletter. All opinions are my own.*
HER DARKEST SECRET is the story that introduces readers to FBI special agent Fiona Kelly, who escaped a serial killer two decades ago. Now the killer is back and coming for her. Fiona is partnered up with her ex-husband, FBI agent Asa Kodiak and his team after the killer’s recent crime has him back in the spotlight. How is it possible that HER DARKEST SECRET is the first time I’ve ever read Jessica R. Patch? This story blew me away! Secrets like nobody’s business! This was such a crazy ride! Jessica has a talent for creating gripping plot lines and a book that practically demands to be read in one sitting and HER DARKEST SECRET is no exception. I took my time with this amazing and mind blowing story as I wanted to make it last. Patch reels in her readers with quite a hook.
The twists and turns in HER DARKEST SECRET are going to drive you crazy trying to figure out what is happening. Jessica has a way of intertwining the characters lives and making you feel like you have a front row seat into their story. All the main characters get introduced within a few pages right at the beginning. I sometimes get confused by many characters entering the scene at once, and then have trouble telling them apart. That is not the case with this story! The actual plot is a thrilling and interesting one, but it was the characters who circled it that really compelled me to keep reading. I was quickly caught up in the story-line and found it difficult to put down. This book just flew by! HER DARKEST SECRET was such a thrilling ride for me and is a real page-turner. I couldn’t put it down until I knew what had happened. Fans of psychological mysteries will enjoy this one. This story is so well written, that even though it jumps back and forth between the present and the past, it is still easy to follow. HER DARKEST SECRET is a suspenseful tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final pages.
Just when the reader thinks they have it all figured out, forget it! They are totally wrong! Haha don’t you love when an author does that to you? Jessica R. Patch starts by putting the reader on a crazy roller coaster ride of emotions. The Nursery Ryhme Killer is in Fiona’s head 24/7. He has been for 17 years. That was when he kidnapped her and her sister. Her sister was murdered, but he let Fiona go. Fiona is his only living victim…the one who got away. HER DARKEST SECRET will give you chills and have you looking over your shoulder while reading it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Harlequin through Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
When an author takes what you "know" will happen and makes you doubt it... when she takes what you never ever thought of and says, "Oh, yeah? I did that." When she shows how no matter how much we think the Lord doesn't care about the darkness that Satan keeps dumping into our world God's light shines through if we just open our eyes... Well, you've kind of got a great book.
That's a lie. There's no "kind of" about it. Jessica R. Patch didn't just write a good story. She wrote stories within stories within stories--exactly what I love most and especially in suspense. And because Love Inspired got the brilliant idea to have a trade line with full-length novels, she could put all the twists and turns in there until you don't trust your own theories anymore.
Recommended for lovers of suspense and thrillers. There's no gore here, although you know gore happened. Patch just does a brilliant job of making you feel the horror without taking it way too far. Not recommended for folks who would rather not know that evil lurks in shadows. (Spoiler alert: Jesus wins in the end!)
Jessica R Patch takes you inside the mind of a serial killer but doesn’t leave you to wallow in darkness. Instead, Her Darkest Secret shines the light of Christ into that darkness to dispel evil and see how truth and justice ultimately triumph over sin and death. Heavy topics for a Christian romantic suspense novel? Yes, but written in a sensitive, yet realistic way that’s life—and faith—affirming. You won’t be able to stop reading this compelling story of love, regret and redemption.
An FBI profiler matches wits with a serial killer from her past and comes to terms with a failed romance when she is forced to partner with her ex-husband. New to me author and a thrilling set up were a solid combo for grabbing my interest.
Her Darkest Secrets caught my attention as soon as I read the blurb and saw that atmospheric cover. I knew this had strong inspirational elements (Asa becomes a Christian and his new lifestyle and faith is a feature), gritty thriller tracking a serial killer who’s fixated on Fiona, and a second chance romance so I thought I knew what I was getting. I finished this one both appreciating all those elements, but also having mixed feelings along the way. The case was satisfying, steady, tension-wrought police work sifting through evidence, working the behavior aspects, and a motivated team together. There are moments when Rhyme the serial killer is narrating and his warped plans don’t give away who it is while lacing the plot with more suspense. Fiona thought she was getting inside Rhyme’s head to track him down, but the reverse was true and she was the target. And, wow, Violet really has that ability and I was particularly intrigued when she did her part on the case.
However, I admit that for all this had going for it, I struggled with the writing style which made me have to work to get into this story because of the way the details were laid out, I think. But, my biggest drawback was the romance element. I wish it wasn’t there or that Asa didn’t have a nice girlfriend. He’d moved on and had a healthy life and relationship that were working for him until Fiona is back. She, on the other hand, still wasn’t in a healthy place years later, still fixated on her involvement with the killer, and her fixation and secrets are a danger to the FBI team and herself. She does start confronting her issues, but she was definitely too close to the case and maybe should have been forced to act as consultant rather than work the case so directly. I can’t deny her tight connection with the killer was part of what made the last half so riveting and others might not be bothered by the romance plot.
So, it ended strong and I did eventually get used to the writing and get into the book. I think Violet’s book will be even better the chilling way she could slip into a killer’s head like that. For those who appreciate a strong inspirational element, a gritty suspense, and a solid relationship-driven combo of elements, this would be a good bet.
I rec’d a finished print copy from Harlequin to read in exchange for an honest review.
My full review will post at Books of My Heart on Sept 14th.
Well, this sounded like everything I could have ever wanted.
I really liked Fiona. She's smart and determined and it was easy to root for her, especially after everything that happened to her in the past. Asa is gruff and protective and it makes a lot of sense why. I enjoyed the team (especially Violet) and I'm quite eager that her book is next.
Plot wise, it was mostly good. I loved the serial killer aspect of everything and while it was dense with information at times, the tension and slow build up really kept me guessing.
My main complaint with this story is that I didn't know it was Christian fiction. It was pitched through HQN and was never mentioned that it was religion based. Annnnnd, there is a load of religion in this story, it's not just casually mentioned. There are characters talking about their pastors, their faith, men's/youth groups, and quoting scripture to each other. Now, if that's your thing, great, but it's not mine. And if I would have seen that aspect if it, I would have not requested it.
Overall, it was a great story with a great plot, but for me, the embedding of the Christian values took a lot away.
**Huge thanks to the publisher for providing the arc free of charge**
Jessica R. Patch has done it again only bigger and better than ever! I did my happy dance for this book! This was fantabulous, amazing, excellent and exciting! With all the ingredients for a can't put down book! This is a novel that will definitely make the hairs stand on the back of your neck and have you looking over your shoulder for sure! I read this at night so yes, I ended up doing both of these things. Unforgettable characters too. I love that this particular thriller is a wonderful story that has beautiful spiritual messages to help Fiona through her ordeal. I found myself holding my breath through the many twists and turns and was so into the book that I was finished before I knew it. I really liked this couple. They really made an excellent team. The Nursery Ryhme killer. What a name! Sort of reminds me of Stephen King's It. I highly recommend this book! I would love to give it more than 5 stars though. Too bad I couldn't cause it deserves 10! Patch's stories has made me a fan for life. This will be my favorite one because of the excellent writing that was done and how she made it seem so realistic. My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Her Darkest Secret was such an intense read!! I was quickly drawn into the story and could hardly wait to see how it would end.
I loved the romance and that it was a second-chance story. There were some truly heartbreaking moments in the book and it was a darker read, at times.
All in all, though, this was an intense read that held my attention. The story had SO many twists and I did not guess the ending. I can hardly wait to read the next one!

The Nursery Rhyme Killer kidnapped her and her sister, but she escaped. Now living with the sole goal of bringing him to justice, Fiona's obsession broke her marriage and directs her life, especially when he returns. Working with her ex-husband again to find him before it's too late, old feelings return and complicate life on the team.
As a new believer, we watch Asa work on changing his life for the glory of God and how this prompts Fiona to look for answers to her own heart's deepest questions. I enjoyed the characters and the mystery, it was uncertain until the very end, but I did find the conclusion rushed and some of the tragedy rushed over.
If you enjoy suspense with Christian themes, add this to your to-read list.
Fiona, her sister and her friend were kidnapped when they were younger. Although Fiona survived, the other two were murdered. Now, she is an FBI agent still on the hunt for the Nursery Rhyme Killer and so consumed with this mission that it cost her her marriage with fellow FBI agent, Asa Kodiak. (Side note: Asa Kodiak is a FANTASTIC name!!)
This felt very much like a Ted Dekker book, killer-perspective chapters and all.
Buckle up and hold on for the adrenaline filled ride that is Jessica Patch's newest book. Her Darkest Secret is being marketed as a psychological thriller and that is a perfect description for it. I was feeling Criminal Minds type vibes throughout the book as the Strange Crimes Unit is on the hunt for a serial killer that has returned. The hero and heroine, Fiona and Asa, both have close personal connections to the Nursery Rhyme Killer which adds to their motivation to solve this case. This book is not lacking in creepiness and nail biting suspense.
One thing I feel like readers should know going in is that there are some descriptions of some abuses against children in the story. The author handles them well and they have all happened in the past so are described in past tense. I am not usually one to warn people about things in books, but I felt like this is such a sensitive topic that readers need to be aware. The book truly shows the depravity in the world and the secret lives people can lead. However, the faith thread is strong in the book which was encouraging. It was refreshing to see these characters who face the worst this world has to offer on a daily basis by tracking down killers see their need for faith in Jesus who offers hope and a light in the darkness.
I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author and publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Jessica R Patch has wrote a psychological thriller that you won’t want to put down. NRK (The Nursery Rhyme Killer aka Rhyme) has become an obsession of FBI Special Agent Fiona Kelly. He haunts her every waking moment for the last 17 years when he kidnapped her and her sister. Her sister was murdered, but he let her go. No one knows the reason why except Fiona. It’s her darkest secret. One that she hasn’t even shared with FBI Special Agent Asa Kodiak her teammate and ex-husband. Asa has tried to get over Fiona since he divorced her two years ago. She’s transferred to Chicago and he’s the head of the bizarre and strange crimes unit in Memphis. He’s found God. He’s even started dating again. That all comes to a halt when NRK strikes again. Now Fiona must come home and work with her former team to help find out the identity of Rhyme before he murders again. I really enjoyed reading about her and Asa’s story. We got to learn so many secrets these two were keeping. It was great finding out how Asa came to know God and how he worked on changing even despite all the stuff they dealt with each and every day. I also loved trying to guess who NRK is and how he became who he became. It was a very twisted and dark novel. Not your every day Love Inspired Suspense. If you enjoy psychological thrillers then you won’t want to miss Her Darkest Secret. I know I can’t wait to read book 2!
The Nursery Rhyme Killer has struck again! Fiona returns to the Memphis FBI office to help bring down this killer who abducted Fiona and her sister, killing her sister after Fiona got away years ago. Fiona and her ex-husband, the agent in charge, must work together along with the rest of the team to solve the killer's crimes before he manages to get what he really wants - Fiona.
Be prepared to stay on the edge of your seat! Even though parts of this book show some of the evil that exists in our world, the author also shows that faith in our Lord can help us see the light and joy only He can give. Those who have this faith can help others find their faith even in the midst of tracking down the evil doers.
I had trouble putting this book down so I finished it in just 2 days. I received a digital advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy reading thrillers/suspenseful mysteries with a bit of romance. I am looking forward to more of these stories.
I have not read this author before but let me tell you, I am now a fan. This was dark, gruesome, did not hold back, and I did NOT see the ending coming at all. Intense and a gripping page turner that hooked me from the start, this is one police procedural that was so well done I cannot say enough good about it. FBI special agent Fiona Kelly has close ties to this serial killer, known as the Nursery Rhyme Killer, who has made his return. He killed her sister and left a feather with her body and every subsequent victim after. Now he is back for the one who got away, Fiona.
There clearly are some trigger warnings in here, but this one is definitely worth the read. The characters had depth and were relatable, and the pacing is fast and steady right from the start. I really enjoyed the suspense and the chase of Rhyme coming after Fiona while she was desperately trying to solve the case.
Thank you to Harlequin for the gifted copy to review, I cannot recommend this one enough.
This is the perfect book for October. Creepy. Action-packed. So many twists and turns. I couldn't put it down! Plus the romance was awesome, and the faith message couldn't be beat. I loved this book! Highly recommend!!
When you see a book described as a “taut psychological thriller”, there should be a picture of Her Darkest Secret, Jessica Patch’s newest faith-filled romantic suspense. FBI Agent Fiona Kelly has been obsessed with catching and stopping the Nursery Rhyme Killer (aka NRK, or as Fiona calls him, “Rhyme”) for as long as she’s been an agent. But not just because she’s an FBI agent. She’s also his only living victim…the one who got away. The case has affected her life so much it tore her marriage apart, resulting in her transferring out of the Strange Crimes Unit she was a part of in Memphis, and moving on to Chicago. Rhyme’s been quiet awhile…but he’s back. Agent Asa Kodiak is the head of the Strange Crimes Unit in Memphis, and Fiona’s ex-husband. He still struggles with their divorce and the emotions that go with it, but is trying to move on. He’s also found the Lord, and his newfound faith has been a great blessing to him. Still…he knows as soon as Fiona hears about the new case, she’ll be on a plane to Memphis immediately, and he’s not looking forward to that. She gets there, and somehow they come to terms on how they can work together with the rest of Asa’s team. But can they do more than just “work together”? Even amidst all that is going on, can they somehow pick up the fragmented pieces of their relationship and put it back together? Rhyme is…scary. Stealthy. Manipulating. He gets under your skin and gives you goosebumps. Oh, but those elements of faith throughout the book are like a deep breath of fresh air on a cool Spring day. Jessica weaves a captivating tale with as many twists and turns as a creepy bare tree with its gnarled, coiling branches. You’ll want to read this…just leave the light on!
Her Darkest Secret was an absolutely chilling tale that kept me guessing from the very start of the story until the author revealed who was behind the serial killings that had haunted the Memphis area for years. This story is definitely not for the faint of heart as it deals with a very ruthless and vicious killer.
My favorite part of the book was seeing the connection between Asa and Fiona as they worked together again to try to catch Rhyme. Their broken marriage and the broken hearts each carried with them impacted how they interacted and created the perfect amount of romantic tension. Yet Asa was not the man he used to be. He was now a believer and was dating a truly kind woman who was also working the case. Fiona was not a believer and neither were the other members of the team. This felt very realistic to me.
The way the team ran the investigation was fascinating to me. I loved watching them go over the old cases and reinterview persons of interest. It was exciting to see certain clues fall into place. Yet, the author was adept at showing patterns and creating possibilities while also placing plenty of doubt about who could be the villain. I am so excited to read future books in this series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
4.5 stars "'Here, kitty, kitty.' His voice echoed through the forest.
Special Agent Fiona Kelly's life at been upended as a teen. Having survived a close encounter with "The Nursery Rhyme Killer", Fiona had spent her entire career trying to solve the murders of her sister and countless others by someone whose obsession with Fiona had ultimately ruined her marriage. Now "Rhyme" was back, drawing Fiona to himself while bringing her face to face with her biggest regret; Asa "Bear" Kodiak.
Confusing even the most highly trained agents, Rhyme continues to kill and to taunt, acting as an "equalizer" in twisted vigilante sort of way, exposing the sins of others while conveniently ignoring his own. Although Asa has tried, and is trying, to move beyond his attachment to Fiona, her presence on the case has predictably shifted the professional balance of his team. Asa is remembering the good times and the bad times . . . .all the time . . . but through a different lens . . . his relationship with a Savior, whose blood had been shed on his behalf. Surprisingly, Fiona says that she notices the difference, but how can it be enough, when Rhyme still stands between them?
Just in terms of a psychological thriller, this book could stand on its own two feet rather admirably. So many possibilities, so many plot twists, for both the innocent and the guilty have kept secrets. Add in a renewable love story and elements of a deep spiritual battle against seemingly impenetrable darkness . . and the trilogy of plot, romance, and redemption adds up to quite a story! Not for the faint of heart mind you, some elements are borderline graphic in places and sickening in others; I chose to take a few reading breaks to avoid getting totally buried underneath the weight of the circumstances, but in the end . . . . and it seems like it never will, but it does. . . . . . justice prevails.
" . . . it turned out that hope wasn't out of reach for those who had the courage to reach for it. It was an anchor for the soul . . . . . she was going to learn to shine. Not like fireworks, but a star."
3.5 stars As this is labeled Christian fiction & written by a Christian author I thought I'd list a few warnings. Granted these are very real issues, but some may offend gentle readers - 1) Talk about sexual orientation (a character is confused about his) 2) Quite a bit of graphic violence 3) Alot of mention of alcohol drinking by the characters 4) extramarital affairs (no graphic details) 5) Crimes perpetrated against minors (no graphic details) 6) Love triangle (they don't bother me, but some do not like them)
I love Jessica Patch's suspense fiction and based on plot and characterization alone, I would have rated this much higher. Her Darkest Secret is a taut, suspenseful page-turner with a very brilliant plot and a surprising twist at the conclusion. The characters were super admirable, courageous, and oftentimes very humorous in spite of their chilling professions in the FBI’s Strange Crimes Unit.
However, I felt as though I was inundated with so many sin-filled and controversial issues in one book—almost as though I'd watched a day's worth of news! lol Except drugs...thank goodness no drug crimes were mentioned! I appreciate the fact that the author includes a strong spiritual thread throughout and redemption for several of the characters.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to write a positive review.*
Her Darkest Secret by Jessica Patch definitely brings the creep-factor. Fiona Kelly has made it her life’s priority to catch a serial killer dubbed Rhyme, based on the nursery rhymes he leaves with his victims. Fiona, a former victim, became an FBI Special Agent to catch this killer, and has given up everything in pursuit of justice – including her relationship with colleague Asa Kodiak. But Rhyme has an obsession of his own: Fiona.
This is a must read for thriller fans. Fiona hunts a serial killer while he hunts her. The intensity is high and the plot twists are endless. But readers will also find Fiona and Asa’s relationship an emotional rollercoaster as they both have past secrets they are hiding. The rest of the team of agents also make an impact on the pages. Tiberius Granger and Owen Berkley add a bit of comic relief with their camaraderie. Violet Rainwater is a mysterious and serious character – I have no idea what to think about her. It looks like Violet’s story is next in the series.
If you are a fan of intense and even a bit creepy stories, this book is for you. Definitely a fast-paced and intriguing read with characters readers will fall in love with.
I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Agent Fiona Kelly has dedicated the last 17 years of her life trying to track down the Nursery Rhyme Killer. As one of the serial killer's early victims who managed to escape, she has a stronger interest in the case than the average investigator. Plus, the killer has a special interest in her as well and he has never stopped tormenting her. This obsession has cost her a marriage already and never gives her a moment of peace.
Now, she is teamed up with her ex-husband FBI agent Asa Kodiak and his team after the killer's recent crime returns him to the spotlight.
This book had me guessing from beginning to end as the team worked their way through the clues and possible suspects. The criminal tension is made even more tense as Asa and Fiona find themselves in such close proximity after their marriage failed. This all mixes together to create a compelling story on several levels. I highly recommend this book.
I received an ARC of this book from the author with a request for an honest review.
