In 1992, film critic Roger Ebert remarked, "if there is an award for the most unsung leading man of his generation, Kilmer should get it."
I've taken to just carrying this book around with me...so I'm "that girl" now I guess. While reading this I've been randomly opening it to a page and letting the universe pick the right words for me to read for the day, and it's been quite fun, and kinda spot on! This collection of poetry ranges from hopeful, funny, and sad to introspective, really a kaleidoscope of emotions. It's made me giggle, especially the poem about acting class as I went to performing arts school, it's made me feel the all too relatable longing to have someone to share your life with. I guess, overall, it's just made me *feel*, and isn't that what we want the most when we pick up a book? I was just as smitten with this collection as I am with the man himself, and that's saying A LOT haha
Beautifully presented collection of Val Kilmer’s poems released in conjunction with the must-see documentary “Val” from A24. The calm greens and blues of the book and typeface compliment the poetry inside. It’s a meaningful look into his mind at various points in his life- the dates and locations allow the reader to understand which movie or play was being focused on while writing. It’s a must read for any fan of Val’s work and life.
This is gorgeous in every way. The poems are little shots of beauty to be read out loud and revisited time and time again. The book itself is published by A24 in soothing shades of green with a lovely fabric cover. Praise is included from Cher and Robert Downey Jr with a foreword from David Mamet. Even the About the Author right at the end is adorable.
I'm always 50/50 on poetry - some of the poems made no sense, others just felt bad, but there were a few that really took my breath away and so I would maybe read it again someday!
Some points were really strong, and other points felt like he was using a thesaurus to write his poems. Not to mention some of the icky ones about women. But I definitely think it’s worth reading if you’re a fan of Kilmer!
