Stranded with three violent prisoners in the deadly Alaskan wilderness, Cutter will become the hunter and the hunted…

After an early spring thaw on the Alaskan coast, Anchorage police discover a gruesome new piece of evidence in their search for a serial killer: a dismembered human foot.

In Kincaid Park, a man is arrested for attacking a female jogger. Investigators believe they have finally captured the sadistic serial killer. But one deputy is sure they have the wrong man.

In the remote northern town of Deadhorse, Alaska, Deputy US Marshal Arliss Cutter escorts three handcuffed prisoners onto a small bush plane on route to Anchorage. The men have been charged with racketeering, drug trafficking, and kidnapping. But Cutter doesn’t expect any trouble from them. It’s a routine mission and a nonstop flight—or so he thinks. When the plane makes an unexpected landing in the middle of nowhere, all hell breaks loose. The prisoners murder a pilot and guard. The plane is torched and blown up. And the last few survivors are forced to flee into the wilderness. But their nightmare’s just beginning. Back in Anchorage, deputy Lola Teariki has traced the dismembered foot to a missing girl—and the serial psychopath who slaughtered her.

It’s one of the prisoners on Cutter’s flight. . . .

Now it’s a deadly game of survival. With no means of communication, few supplies, and ravenous grizzly bears and wolves lurking in the shadows, Cutter has to battle the unforgiving elements while the cold-blooded killer wants his head on a stick. Here in Alaska, nature can be cruel—but this time, human nature is crueler. . . .

Drawing on his experiences as a deputy US marshal in Alaska, Cold Snap rings terrifyingly true.

Marc Cameron treats readers to an action-packed, suspenseful, and shocking crime thriller in Cold Snap , the fourth book in the Arliss Cutter series. After finding another body part in Anchorage’s Kincaid Park followed by a nearby attack on a female jogger, police believe they have captured their serial killer. Nevertheless, Supervisory Deputy U. S. Marshal Arliss Cutter and his partner Deputy Lola Teariki don’t believe it.

Normally Arliss, Lola, and the rest of his Alaska Fugitive Task Force are tracking dangerous fugitives. However, in this case Arliss goes to Deadhorse, Alaska to escort three prisoners back to Anchorage while Lola continues to work on the serial killer case. Arliss’ routine mission turns extraordinary when the plane makes an unexpected landing in the middle of nowhere and 30 miles off their expected course. Survival quickly becomes an issue for everyone.

Arliss and Lola are very different characters. He’s experienced and no-nonsense. She’s relatively new and wants assignments that are new and interesting as well as gleaning all possible knowledge from Arliss. They have flaws and virtues just like everyone else. I got a good sense of how Arliss treats his co-workers as well as his sister-in-law and her children. He is very protective of his team and underdogs, and he doesn’t tolerate bullies, no matter who they are. This can lead to some interesting interactions, to say the least. In this novel, we get to see more character development with Lola. The antagonist’s actions and thoughts had a terrifying realism that is memorable.
This book is set largely set in and around Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Deadhorse, Alaska. The author does a great job of making the reader feel transported to late winter in Alaska. I felt as though I was living the events alongside the characters.

This riveting action-adventure and crime thriller kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. It has a deeply involved plot, an incredible setting, and extraordinary characters. Just when a reader thinks the situation can’t get any worse, it does. Readers are transported into the dark and terrifying world of the victims, the criminals, and the investigators. While some of the events are over-the-top, it was so full of action and excitement that it kept me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next. I was kept fully invested in the assignment becoming a success. However, is that what happens?

Overall, this suspenseful, riveting, and fast-paced book takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster. If you enjoy action thrillers that have both strong male and female characters, then this may be the series for you. I look forward to reading more of this series. I can’t wait to find out what is next, as well as go back and read the first two books in this series.

Alaska is the gateway to all things breath-taking and below zero.

Marc Cameron wraps this one in the frigid and the frostbitten. U.S. Marshall Arliss Cutter has been called out to check on a Russian ship near Dutch Harbor. He's accompanied by his partner, Deputy Lola Teariki. To dig a little deeper, Arliss is originally from Port Charlotte, Florida and Lola is a Maori from Cook Island in the South Pacific. Both are far from the long rays of the hot Sun. But when duty calls, you just adapt......even to the unlikely confiscation of a highly unusual banned shipment.

Cameron heats this one up with various logs of adventure on the fire. Body parts have been washing ashore lately. Identifying the connecting owners is the task at hand. Lola and Officer Joe Bill Brackett of the Anchorage Police have combined their efforts in pursuing a serial killer who moves beyond the banks of a dangerous psychopath. And their leads will flush out more than what they bargained for.

The sparks of that fire will take Arliss to Deadhorse, Alaska. (Cue the visual of that one.) He's to pick up three violent prisoners and return them to Anchorage by plane. Deadhorse is filled with bulked-up oil pipeline workers who tend to drink their share to ward off the cold. These tough characters will test the mighty Arliss when the plane lands unexpectantly in a far off-site area due to pilot error. Add a fire onboard and we have a Welcome to Hell sign on the horizon.

Hunka Munka......Cameron has outdone himself in this fourth edition to the series. Cold Snap does just fine as a standalone read. The action is relentless with a three-prong attack. And no matter how intense it gets, Cameron is a whiz at slippin' in humorous, snarky dialogue with laugh-out-loud moments. You will love Lola and Joe Bill. Arliss is the human nightlight who keeps things under control, but this Deadhorse deal will be one of his greatest trials. Cameron will see to it.

I received a copy of this novel through NetGalley for an honest review. My thanks to Kensington Publishers and to Marc Cameron for the opportunity.

First and foremost, a large thank you to NetGalley, Marc Cameron, and Kensington Books for providing me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.

Always a fan of Marc Cameron’s writing, I was pleased to get my hands on his latest in the Arliss Cutter series, set up in Alaska. When random body parts begin to appear on the shore, there is talk that a serial killer may be lurking in the shadows. While working as a US Marshal up in Alaska, Arliss Cutter agrees to help with the case, only to be pulled away for a random prisoner transport up in a rural part of the state. What follows is a harrowing hunt for a killer, and a transport that goes horribly wrong. Cameron dazzles again with his writing and keeps the reader on their toes throughout.

The move from Florida to Alaska is one that Arliss Cutter has never regretted, particularly as it has helped his family out a great deal. Still, there are days that he cannot help but wonder if the cold climate is worth the risk. As a US Marshal, he’s never bored, as the work is ever-evolving and he never knows what to expect.

When body parts begin to turn up on the shore, Cutter is stymied, as well as the local Anchorage Police. Alongside his partner, Lola Teariki, Cutter tries to lend a hand while the locals follow up on some leads. It would seem that the killer is targeting women who work as prostitutes, capturing them when no one would notice. Still, some others cannot help but mention the siting of a ‘Tall Man’, but the information appears to lead nowhere at all.

While Lola works closely with the Anchorage Police, Cutter is called away on a prisoner transport in the northern part of the state. Ready and armed for most anything, he heads out to bring a group of men back to Anchorage. During the flight back, the plane encounters some trouble and lands in the middle of nowhere, leaving Cutter and a few others to try surviving with some ruthless criminals. As temperatures drop and the wildlife in the region come out to scavenge, Cutter and the others will have to survive long enough for someone to rescue them, whenever that might be. A killer on the loose who dismembers victims with ease, a plane stranded in the middle of nowhere... there’s no telling what might happen. Marc Cameron keeps the tension high throughout this fourth novel in the series.

Marc Cameron has always impressed with his writing, mixing grit and determination with the uniqueness of rural Alaska. Using the US Marshals angle, Cameron is able to effectively explore the excitement of prisoner hunts with usual criminal activity that requires daily attention. A strong narrative and great characters, with some building sub-plots, Cameron impresses series fans with this piece, which pushes the story to a new level of excitement. By the end, there is a definite push for how the series might conclude, or move in new directions.

Arliss Cutter has evolved a great deal throughout the series, though much of it is in the form of character development, rather than backstory. Having moved to Alaska to help his sister-in-law after the death of his brother, Arliss plays a dual role as US Marshal and quasi-parent, though he does not wish to accentuate the latter. Convinced that he can find out what happened to his brother, who appears to have committed suicide, Arliss works hard to represent the Marshals and liaise with some of the local law enforcement entities around the state. Where things will go in the coming novels is anyone’s guess, but I am eager to see what Cameron has in store for his protagonist.

While crime thrillers can become quite repetitive, Marc Cameron has found the recipe to stand out. It could be the way he handles the ‘hunt for the killer’, or even that the Alaskan backdrop makes the story come to life, but whatever it is, Cameron has mastered it. His detailed narrative allows the reader to feel as though they are in the middle of the action, which takes things into the coldest parts of the state as well. Well-paced and full of action, the narrative pushes things along well, using characters to keep the story intriguing at evert page turn. A few strong plot lines push the story along effectively and permits the reader to remain engaged as truths come to light slowly, but consistently. While I am unsure where things are headed with this series, Cameron offers some breadcrumbs in the final chapter of the book, which could move the novels in a different ‘hunt for the truth’ direction.

Kudos, Mr. Cameron, for another winner. I hope others discover this series and find the same engaging nature in your writing.

Anchorage, Alaska is the duty station for Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshall Arliss Cutter and his partner Lola. After a woman's abduction, they track a homeless man to his camp as it is feared the woman may become another victim of the person who has been severing limbs and torsos that have been washing ashore. Seeing a bloody stump at the camp, local police believe the homeless man is the serial killer. Arliss and Lola disagree, as well as local cop Joe Bill Brackett.

Arliss is assigned to escort several prisoners on a plane to Deadhorse, Alaska while Lola stays to stick her nose in the already closed serial killer investigation. Now, you'll have to read the book to find out how and why the plane is on the ground and the trip becomes a passage of survival in the frigid temperatures. Rest assured that one of the prisoners is perhaps the most evil criminal Arliss has ever dealt with.

Readers get to see more of Lola's character development as she works on the case while Arliss is gone. I loved the survival setting. There's a lot going on in this story - a serial killer, survival in the wilderness, family situation at home while Arliss is gone, and rumors surrounding his brother's murder. A lot of characters are killed...yes, it's full of carnage.

I had to pay close attention because chapters suddenly bring up new characters that never appeared before and took me a few reading minutes to figure out what was happening. I can tell by the last page where the next book in this series is headed.

I've been back to Alaska with US marshall Arliss Cutter while he was trying to solve a murder mystery, family problems and transport criminals all at the same time. I really like this series by Marc Cameron and Cold Snap is the fourth book in this great series. Out in stores on April 26th.You really get the feeling that the author knows this state and you are right, he spends a lot of the year in Alaska and he has been a marshall. The thing I like the most in this series is the characters that is not your typical gallery of good and bad guys and of course the scenery and the descriuption of the difficulties of living in such a place. I grew up reading the books by Harry Macfie a swedish adventurer in Canada in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Since then I have always been fascinated with life in those conditions but have not yet tried it. As usual the book is filled with suspense and difficulties and near death experiences, I can really recommend it. Thanks to @kensingtonbooks and @this_is_edelweiss and @netgalley for giving me this advance copy and @marccameronbooks for writing it. #Edelweiss #NetGalley #Kensington #ColdSnap #MarcCameron #ArlissCutter

*4-4.5 stars for a very exciting thriller set in Alaska. Arliss Cutter, a US Marshall working for the Fugitive Task Force, is assigned to a prisoner transfer that goes terribly wrong. Meanwhile, his partner, Lola Teariki, gets involved in the hunt for a gruesome serial killer in Anchorage, working along side Joe Bill Brackett of the APD.

I've enjoyed this series from the start. The Alaskan setting is pretty terrifying itself as one experiences the wild, magnificent power of Mother nature. The humans can be pretty wild and dangerous themselves--even the good guys, haha. I enjoy these well-developed characters and their personal relationships and look forward to where Cameron will lead them next.

A delightful bonus with this series is the inclusion of a delicious recipe at the end--one from Grumpy Cutter, Arliss's notorious grandfather. I've tried the previous ones and can't wait to try Grumpy Cutter's Oatmeal Energy Cookies now. Yum!

I received an arc of this new thriller via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Many thanks for the opportunity. This is one of my favorite series.

Absolutely loved this book!
I am not usually an action/thriller book kinda fan, but mix in a serial killer, snow, the cold and wilderness and count me the heck in!

The characters were likeable, very relatable and easy to root for. The plot was multidimensional and came together nicely, in an action-packed manner.

Novels set in cold and snowy climates is my weak point, so this definitely played a role of my enjoyment too!

I truly enjoyed the book and cannot wait to backtrack and read other Arliss Cutter novels in the series :)

An extra point goes for the energy ball recipe at the end of the book, I loved the touch and was wondering about the recipe since it was mentioned a couple of times - great, heartwarming and thoughtful addition from the author!

Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC!

Stranded in the Alaskan wilderness with three violent prisoners, Deputy US Marshal Arliss Cutter becomes the hunter and the hunted in a desperate fight for survival.

Cold Snap is the fourth book in this great series and Marc Cameron is doing a fantastic job in developing the story and the characters. What I like the most about this series is the environment where the story takes place and Cameron describes it in the best possible way. It feels like you are there in the cold vast landscape.

The book is suspenseful, gripping and entertaining and I really recommend this book and the whole series.

Thank to the author, Kensington and Edelweiss for this advanced copy.

Marc Cameron's Cold Snap pits U.S. Marshall Arliss Cutter against the wilds of Alaska and a deranged serial killer hellbent on killing any and everyone.

Cameron is a hell of a writer and he has created probably my favorite character of his in Cutter. That's saying a lot because I love his Jericho Quinn character. Cameron has also created a serial killer that is the stuff of nightmares.

Along with the nightmare fuel, Cutter has begun hearing rumors about his brothers death that ensures we will see more of Arliss Cutter in the future. I can't wait to see how Cameron handles Cutter moving forward.

My sincere thanks to Marc Cameron, Kensington Books, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of Cold Snap!

Two stars may seem like a put-down, but in the Goodreads systems, that's labeled as "It was OK." I don't have major complaints about the book or its style beyond the fact that I just couldn't get into it. I got halfway through before I realized I was reading it out of a sense of obligation rather than enjoyment. You know, I've checked it out from the library and I chose it, so I should be reading it. I had trouble following all the different characters and plots that didn't seem to be connected. The opening scene was great, but then that was dropped from the plot. Apparently it was just a hook. So I gave up and stopped halfway through.

Even though this is the fourth book in the series, it's the first book I've read by this author. The book is a little more violent than what I usually read, but I still enjoyed it. I liked the complex, exciting story and the well-drawn characters. Many are supposed to be unlikable, but I really liked the "heroes" of the story. Arliss Cutter, a U.S. Marshal currently working in Alaska, as well as his young partner Deputy Lola Teariki are fantastic. I also liked Lola's rapport and growing friendship with Officer Joe Bill Brackett. It's also a nice change that Arliss and Lola's boss, Chief Phillips is a strong female character and respected leader but is also compassionate.

I like that the book has elements of a procedural as well as an adventure/thriller story. I love the Alaska setting as well. The story places Arliss in the position of having to fight the elements as well as violent criminals. This makes for some tense and exciting reading. Arliss also receives some shocking news in his personal life that he has to deal with. Even though this isn't the type of book I usually read, I enjoyed it and would read the next in the series to see what comes next for Arliss as well as Lola and Joe Bill.

I received this book through the courtesy of Kensington Books and Between The Chapter Books. An advance copy was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

Read his full review on Rosepoint Publishing.

A Russian ship sailing off the Alaskan coast has engine trouble, stopped near a U.S. territorial buoy. Aboard the ship is 300 smuggled adorable puppies which will fatten the captain’s purse immensely. The problem is there are no papers for importing the puppies.

There are no hands with fingerprints to identify the victims when female body parts wash up on Alaska’s shoreline. Because the crime happened in international waters the U.S. Marshal Service has jurisdiction over the crimes.

Transporting prisoners from Anchorage to Fairbanks is part of Arliss’s detail. He has escorted more than three at a time before but these are extremely despicable. The bush pilot who is taking them to prison decides to alter his course slightly to check on his lady friend. What could go wrong?

Marc Cameron writes an engaging tale of three crimes. The prisoners will do anything to get free. Could one of these three be the killer who is brutally murdering the young women?

The author writes action-paced and fast-paced novels. This one tackles a brutal plot that became a bit graphic for me.

We received a complimentary review copy of this book from the author and publisher through NetGalley that in no way influenced this review. These are my honest opinions. 4.5 stars – CE Williams

Have Marshalls Arliss Cutter and Lola Teariki finally met their match?

Body parts start washing up on beaches. They belong to different people. In the midst of “abducting”? another woman, police chase the homeless man into the woods. Following his capture, they are sure they have their killer.

But Lola and Alaska State Patrol Officer Joe Bill Brackett don’t think the homeless man is capable of the murders. Lola begins to look into the murders herself and Joe Bill longs to tag along. She lets him.

Meanwhile, Arliss gets sent to Deadhorse, Alaska to bring back some prisoners. The worst of the four are Nix and Spivey. He also meets APD Officer Jan Hough. Jan is surprised to meet him and says she knew his brother, Ethan, who recently died in an accident. At least, Arliss always thought it was an accident. Jan doubts it, but her investigation has run into a dead end.

The weather is deteriorating in Deadhorse. Their pilot is one of the people Arliss arrested in town for harassing a waitress and getting violent with Arliss. So, new pilot, another delay. They still have nine hundred miles to get home.

When the pilot takes a detour, things go badly wrong. They wind up in the middle of nowhere with the prisoners and a researcher and her two proteges. How are they going to get out of there? They are not on their flight plan.

Things continue to go very wrong. The prisoners are contentious and looking for trouble.

At the same time, Lola and Joe Bill make a startling discovery. They cannot contact Arliss. His phone is out?

Mim and Constance are still at loggerheads. Constance is in deep trouble, along with two of her friends. Will police protection be enough?

This is a tightly written and plotted thriller. Talk about non-stop action! I was on the edge of my seat for the whole ride! Mr. Cameron beautifully scripts his action scenes. I appreciate that the “hero” doesn’t bounce back up after being injured. It is much more realistic. I love his Arliss and Lola novels and anxiously await the next in the series. Will Ethan’s death finally be solved?

I want to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books/Kensington for forwarding to me a copy of this most delicious thriller for me to read, enjoy and review. The opinions expressed here are solely my own.

This was my second Arliss Cutter book, and it was a stronger effort than Bone Rattle. It held together with a tighter plot, and Arliss is staring to grow on me, especially as we learned more of his personal story. What made the story was the brutal backdrop of Alaska, beautiful and wild yet deadly, and the role of Lola Teariki, Cutter’s ferocious young Polynesian assistant. The book made me want to visit Alaska - in the summertime.

The cold wilds of Alaska made for a perfect setting for this high tension novel featuring US Marshal, Arliss Cutter. A serial killer is chopping up young marginalized women, mainly prostitutes. Cutter volunteers for transport duty of 3 criminals, unaware of how dangerous one of them really is. The violence of the winter cold matches the plot's violent actions. Not for the squeamish but not horrifyingly graphic.

Set-up for next investigation in book 5 is one I look forward to as Arliss investigates the death of his brother Ethan.

Ok, Cutter is magnificent in this spine tingling thriller. I was in shock after becoming aware of the fact that Cutters niece and the men that he’s tracking are all intertwined. Say what? That little Alexandra girl was getting on my nerves. If she was my child, she would be locked in her room for ever.
Then Constance… what on earth is going with that child. To me she was another problem child. I have to say, Arlie’s living with Mim and the kids… not a good idea. Maybe the story has more places to go with this idea. I loved the suspense and the many puzzle pieces to the story.
It was fun trying to peace together this person with that situation that happened. The entertainment was fast and very informative. There is some dry humor from the characters, even Lola, Cutters partner got in on them. Cutter I thought his character was more of a Jack Reacher, but that’s ok. The ending was explosive for me, which was great.
I absolutely loved the book. Until next time my fellow readers… read on! #BookedForTheSummerChallenge

Cold Snap by Marc Cameron
Arliss Cutter #4

Excellent addition to the series typing up some loose ends while setting the stage for the next book in the series – could not put it down!

What I liked:
* The Prologue that tells us more about Arliss, his brother, and grandfather…and an anchor for the “Grumpy-isms” or laws Cutter mentions and lives by
* Arliss Cutter: Supervisory US Marshal, grew up in Florida, military veteran, experienced, married four times, a man of action – when it is required, there for his brother’s family, a man I would want on my side.
* Lola Teariki: Deputy US Marshall, strong, intelligent, workout fiend, likes a puzzle, intriguing, Arliss’s partner at work, outgoing, forthright, capable, interesting…might be interested in Joe Bill?
* Joe Bill Brackett: police officer, relatively new on the job, intrigued by the serial murderer leaving body parts about, inquisitive, dedicated, is attracted to Lola…eager to see what happens next
* Chief Deputy Jill Phillips: good leader, boss of Arliss and Lola, mother, wife, good leader
* Seeing how Arliss’s sister-in-law, niece, and nephews are doing – wonder how it will all eventually play out – also enjoyed seeing how the niece stepped up when she needed to.
* The setting – Alaska in all of the cold bitterness it has to provide – one of the biggest characters to contend with of all
* Learning about snow caves then looking them up to find out how to make one
* The tie-in to the previous books and continuation of the serial killer case
* The plot, writing, and the way one of the threads from previous books was tied up
* The way the police worked together whether dealing with crimes and criminals or searching for those lost in the wilderness
* Noah and Piper: graduate students in a remote area that ended up playing a big part in the story – liked them both and wouldn’t mind seeing them again.
* Battles, Meeks, Cyril, Hough…and so many more…each character provided something the story needed
* The teaser regarding what the next book’s focus will probably be
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* The criminals Arliss was sent to transport to trial – as well as a few other criminals that were dealt with in the story
* Basically…everyone and everything I was meant not to like ;)

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely!

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Arliss Cutter is a US Marshall working in Alaska. He is a man of few words and fewer smiles. He finds himself in untenable situations yet always seems to come out on top using his quick wit and extensive library of survival skills. You can't help to love the grump. And always around to make him a little more lovable is his partner, Lola, a woman who does not suffer fools and when not out kicking ass at work is hard at work at the gym.

Cutter and Lola are split up, for what should be a night, when Cutter runs up to the North Slope to bring back a couple of bad dudes who were arrested there and need transporting to Fairbanks. While in the North Slope Cutter ends up arresting a 3rd and has to put them all on a little plane for transport. Suffice it to say the plane runs into a few problems along the way and Cutter and his charges are stranded in the middle of nowhere Alaska. Meanwhile, Lola is helping out on a case with the Alaska State Police when word of Cutter's disappearance comes through. Lola and Brackett, the State Police Detective with personal knowledge of the area in which Cutter is believed to be, head to Fairbanks to join the search.

This story will have you on the edge of your seat and next to the fire for warmth. It did not take me long at all to rip through this book, which isn't hard when you can't put it down. You absolutely could read this as a standalone, but why would you want to deny yourself more Arliss Cutter?

Many thanks to #NetGalley and Kensington Books for providing me with an advanced copy of #ColdSnap in exchange for my honest review. Cold Snap will be released on April 26, 2022.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this eARC.

This is my first read by Marc Cameron and it definitely won’t be my last. I really, really enjoyed this book. I don’t think I’ve read many books set in Alaska and for me the setting, the description of the scenes and surroundings was just part of why I liked this book. This is the fourth book in the series and it can be read on it’s own. There are references to previous events which just make me want to go back to the first one, Open Carry and read the series in the correct order. I really liked the main character, Arliss Cutter and his work partner Lola who investigate the finding of a dismembered foot and believe they are looking for a serial killer. Cutter is tasked with the transportation of prisoners by air and what should be a simple operation goes horrifically wrong and becomes a matter of survival. I loved all the separate story threads here and enjoyed following the original investigation in Anchorage. I thought the second half of the book really picked up pace and became a very tense, suspenseful and atmospheric read. This book is so well written and engaging and flowed really well. I was immersed in the story and rooting for Cutter from the first page to the last. I will be definitely looking to read the previous three books to catch up and would recommend this if you like books with a thriller and suspense element.

This is book 4 of the Arliss Cutter series and takes place in Alaska. Cutter is originally from Port Charlotte, FLA and his partner Lola is a Maori woman from the Cook Islands, both far from Dutch Harbour, Alaska but are called to investigate a confiscated highly unusual banned shipment..
Body parts have been washing ashore and Lola assists Officer Brackett in investigating a possible serial killer in the area. Cutter gets sent to Deadhorse to pick up three violent prisoners and return them to Anchorage by plane. Deadhorse is a pipeline town and filled with pumped up oil pipeline workers who challenge Cutter when the plane lands unexpectedly in a distant off site area This results in an onboard fire and chaos ensues.
This is my first book in the series and I did not have difficulty keeping up. The characters were likeable and engaging, the descriptive scenery enthralling and the story was riveting. I will definitely read more. Thank you to the publisher, author and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I got it at the library. Am I the only one who doesn't receive FREE books? That's ok. I enjoy going to our library.

I have read the previous three books in this series. For me, this was the best one. Cameron just gets better. Arliss and Lola are more fully developed characters by now--actually, everyone is--even the teenagers and bad guys. No stereotypes allowed.

There is a synopsis in Goodreads. There are several storylines, but they all get tied up (mostly) by the end. Mystery, brutal weather, missing people, violence, a hungry bear--never a dull moment. I enjoyed the details re the weather, terrain, clothing needed to survive, survival techniques, etc. It all adds depth to the story.

This book was sent to me by Random House and I had no idea what to expect, having not read Marc Cameron before. I was very pleasantly surprised at the multiple story lines, intersecting between the good guys and the bad guys, the constant action and all taking place in the unrelenting weather of Alaska! Solid story and great characters and I have not read the others in the series, so a good stand alone. #arlisscutterthriller

Great Series

U.S. Marshal Arliss Cutter stationed in Alaska, is sent on a bush plane to transport prisoners across the state. While in the air, they pass over a remote research camp, they see it’s been burned and they see a very large brown bear trying for a easy meal “the researchers “. The plane lands to try and assist, the prisoners escape from restraints and it gets interesting from there. REALLY ENJOYABLE SERIES!

This book wasn't one i thought i would love just from reading the synopsis on the back, but the main character felt familiar and I quickly liked him. Then the story evolved and i was hooked. You will be left in awe.

I gave it 4 stars for only a couple small reasons.. 1) there was a piece if pivotal information that i felt was missing towards the end. As if the author pointed people towards a info source, but then they had the info and the reader was left with no idea how. 2) as good as it was... I felt it was a slow start, but once it truly got going it kept me interested and wanting more.

I may have to read more about the life of arliss cutter 🤩.

I received this book from Between the Chapters and Kensington Books.

This series is excellent! Each book solves a case and Arliss and Lola bring in the bad guys, but there is so much more. Cutter's and Mim's relationship, now questions regarding Arliss's brother's death ...

Can't wait for the next book!
