Former U.S. Army Special Forces operative, codenamed Bishop , is one of a few old relics left of his home country. In a post-nuclear armageddon world, Bishop struggles to support himself and his son—the only family he has left. Bishop clings to normalcy living as a mercenary in the Middle East, whose war-torn deserts are a safe haven compared to the nuclear radiation covering the rest of the globe. Only splinters of the U.S. remain to defend withered remnants of peace. That peace is shattered when terrorists hijack a secret U.S. weapons facility in the remote Syrian desert. Bishop’s skills as a stealth infiltrator are requested by shady business tycoon turned U.S. Army Director of Operations, Richard Ramar, a man more interested in his investments than honorable service. In exchange for Bishop’s freedom and survival, Ramar makes two assassinate the terrorist leader, and retrieve a secret weapon inside the facility that will change mankind’s future… what little is left of it.
Former U.S. Army Special Forces operative, codenamed Bishop, a scientifically modified stealth soldier/mercenary is wanting to get out of this kind of life so he can be with his son. But before this can happen, he is captured and given an ultimatum by U.S. Army Director of Operations, Richard Ramar. The mission is to infiltrate and retrieve a secret weapon from a U.S. weapons facility taken over by terrorists in the Syrian desert.
In exchange for Bishop’s freedom and survival, Ramar makes two requests: assassinate the terrorist leader, and retrieve the weapon inside that facility before it changes mankind’s future… what little is left of it.
The world building was interesting and new. The characters were beautifully written but flawed which made them easy to sympathize with. It was action packed and exciting. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I really liked this book. I’m not a sci-fi girl so my review will be based on the story and characters. As to the sci-fi elements a hardcore reader of the genre would want I cannot speak to that.
Mr.Alan’s first book, Silenced, I picked this book up the day it released - I’m so glad I did. The world building and character development was 11/10. I felt like I was running next to Bishop, Hassan, and Frye in the Middle Eastern desert. The detail to weapons and technology was engaging. The story has layers that are compelling and I can’t wait for book 2.
One of the many things I like about Mr. Alan’s characters are they are flawed and have hard roads to travel. He doesn’t make it easy for them to reach their goals either. Bishop went through it in this book, but came out for the better in the end… all things considered.
Total rec this book if you’re looking for a gritty dystopian world with sci-fi elements and really cool military aspects weaved throughout.
*** note to author: I am so glad you submitted Silenced to #PitFit ! Because of that video I found a new favorite author.
Very interesting dystopian story, there are a lot of questions ongoing as you will note when reading. Some of those appear to have been answered to a very small degree as mystery abounds. The lead character is an unlikely hero but one none the less. The villains of the piece are not always obvious, but some clarity emerges as the book progresses. No cliff-hanger but no conclusion either.
A good solid read, with lots of action and movement. I recommend this novel, especially for those who enjoy science fiction. I received this novel from StoryOrigin, This is my true and honest review.
Bishop , a self style former special forces man is sent on a special mission to recover some technology and kill a terrorist head. PLenyt of action . Well worth reading.
