The Top Couple Is a Bit Sweet
(English translated title)
Enjoyed the novel very much. It was a total showbiz Chinese web novel. If you're not into the whole entertainment industry setting, then do not even think about picking it up. Though I'd have to say that this novel wasn't as brainless or dramatic as other showbiz novels I've read before.
The characters do have some depth, I guess (?). I did like the leads very much once their romance took off. We got some flashbacks but it wasn't too long, deterring from the present timeline.
Wen Li was the female lead with the worst EQ. But somehow I still liked her. As for Song Yan, he was a total simp and I stan.
The conflict between SY and WL's family may have been solved a little too easily but it didn't bother me too much. There were ample amount of hilarious moments to keep me going.
Overall, a good bingeworthy novel.

- too long for a fluffy romance novel, the comments took nearly half the novel and sometimes they just had the same message repeated again and again. It’s good ngl and very funny too?? The conversation between the characters is not perfunctory at all and the comedic moments are gold!
- Never understand the hate for the FL. She is a bit narcissistic yes but she got more flavour than mary sue FLs in other novels. And she is sooo likable until the end. Her only disadvantage is her eldest uncle and grandfather
- The other main character is definitely the CP fans haha i just got to know the fan culture (esp CP fan) in China since last year and boy what a crazy journey. So i guess the portrayal of that in this novel doesn’t seem too much. There are also commentaries about the misogynistic culture in the entertainment industry. It’s not new but it is a good thing that authors can remind us again that there’s just an indescribable amount of scrutiny female entertainers go through more than their male counterparts.
- i cried a bit when i read the lyrics of Xu Li’s song for Wen Li lol because i can relate with their crazy siblings chemistry. Also…. I’m a sucker for any moon comparison in cnovel hehe big fan of He Yan and Xiao Jue here (sorry for the shameless plug for Rebirth of Female General)
