When he claims Gracie as his daughter, her fiery spirit rekindles emotions he thought long dead and buried.Yet the ghosts of Gabriel's past refuse to stay hidden, and as Gracie grows her fire awakens new and startling powers that bend the fabric of space and time. As the darkness surrounding Gabriel deepens, Gracie will need every ember of her power to save him and the Family that she loves.Blending science fiction, fantasy, and women's lit, Child of Awareness introduces us to the flawed, immortal Usuriel Family. Called a "masterclass in world building," this sweeping coming-of-age story weaves in themes of loss, belonging, and first romance.
Grace is a young girl who finds herself in a new environment she is very unprepared for. Abigail Silver has brought us into the life of Grace slowly. We get glimpses of things from the past and hints of things that she might want to learn. A lovely beginning.
I was unsure about the mix of topics in this book, but now that I've finished I am looking forward to reading the next book. I can't wait to find out more of the history of the society while learning more about the main character's, Gracie's, future! I would never have imagined a world in which space travel, colonization, vampires, and psychics could all mix smoothly, but these things and more make this tale a delight!
