Okay I know the story established no one was safe from death but they did my boy dirty here and his death made me fucking HURT.
So this is basically two character sets we're following. Asaemon with the young girl as his criminal and then of course Gabimaru and his crew. And while Gabimaru and his crew seem more of a quiet arc till the final major fight, it's Asaemon, his mentor Shion, and criminal verse a demon like creature who can change appearance and is nearly invincible.
This is super charged volume with such awesome fights, sad deaths, and a new status quo by the end that I'm really starting to love this series. I'm sure excited to see this animated and hoping they do it justice because this is fantastic. Characters are interesting, deaths are shocking, and pacing is near perfect. Give me more please.
Enjoying the weirdness, now we're seeing Daois and buddhist demons and themse pop up. Plus Asaemon, his mentor Shion, and criminal verse a demon like creature who can change appearance and is nearly invincible. While it doesn't to offer anything too original in terms of story and characters, everything on hand is well done. There are awesome fights, the characters are interesting (for a manga), and the deaths are shocking. Unlike most stories I've seen in this medium the pacing is near perfect.
3 volumes in and I think this story might be better suited for the anime medium. It just doesn't seem like anything too original in terms of story and characters. However solid animation, vivid colors, great voice acting and music can turn a meh manga into an epic anime. The island in this story will just be so much more visually stunning in color than in b&w manga
-No deberíais.
Still digging the weirdness of this, so I'm definitely digging into Vol. 4 while the digitals are on sale. We get a little more on the mystery of the island, which only raises more questions. I do feel like it's moving kind of fast plot-wise, but I'm hoping that's because there is a lot more going on that we haven't even gotten close to learning about yet.
Okay, this volume gets five stars PURELY for that epic fight between Gabimaru and the one Lord Tensen! Holy shit, that fight was INTENSE! And it really showed off what a threat the Lord Tensen are, but our fave convicts aren't slackers either (and THANK YOU, Chobe and Toma are safe! Thank you for sparing my babies!).
But honestly, the rest of the volume was just as good. Great action, nice worldbuilding, fun character interactions, scenes that kicked me in the feels, all good stuff! Gender is oddly a major part of this series and I'm interested in analyzing this prevailing theme and why it's so prominent. Obviously I have to wait until I read more, but I'm looking forward to it.
Not much to say, just a really fun and bombastic volume. Can't wait to see more awesome fights between the convicts and the Lord Tensen!
The author took the deepest dive yet into the world and story surrounding hells paradise and I found it highly refreshing! There are still some questions left to be answered but that’s alright as it’s still only volume 3. Characters are seeming to die off at random times which is creating this attachment to everyone as soon as we meet them! Outside of that we finally got to find out how the island works and where the elixir of life is all while finding out further about Gabimaru. Personally I enjoy the parts of Gabimaru the most and just wish that the volumes would spend more time on him and that story then they do with the other characters. Obviously everyone is important however is would be cool to keep focus on Gabimaru. Other then that the story continues in a great way leaving me wanting ti continue reading the next volume to find out where they are off to next as the story is really picking up!

I FINALLY FOUND VOLUME 3. This was the last one I had to buy, so I can finally read through the rest of the series in one go. The was a great volume, and it's got me convinced that the action and art are going to be high points for the series. Gabimaru has some really cool moments this volume, but I found myself getting more and more invested in the side characters exploits. There's still a lot of questions about the nature of the island and it's inhabitants. Very intrigued.
Good volume. The author reminds us just how high-stakes things are as we say goodbye to a likeable character, and the island mysteries deepen. Panels of the god-like island inhabitants are beautiful, and Gabimaru's blazing fight sequence with is memorable.
