The Boy Project
Plot: Alma-Stevens is allowing a boy to live on campus for a week to write an article for the Pewter newspaper that compares life at an all boy's school to life at an all girl's school. As her project for English class, Shannon will make a documentary of his stay there.

MY THOUGHTS
*You will NEVER figure out (based on a written response to something like an email or text) what's going on in a guy's head. Sometimes. It depends. While we females tend to want to write long meaningful sentimental things they're briefer and to the point with their responses. And that is if they give you one period. FRUSTRATING! VERY!
*How does a school that doesn't even allow males to visit agree to letting a guy stay there and much less in the same dorm as with some of the females?
*I thought Shannon was the smart one. I know she isn't as experienced with boys but it's very rare you're going to be attracted to every single aspect of the guy. If you like his looks he may not be as smart. If he's as smart he might just be average looking. Or if he looks good he might just be the biggest jerk in creation. You get my point. I'm not saying there aren't the rare breed that have it all but what percentage is that?
*Taking in account I didn't read a lot of these books, though I was familiar with the series I didn't realize the Foxes switched up so much. Which as you grow up I realize you aren't going to have the same boyfriend (love interest) but Palmer switches boys like she switches her clothes (Simmie, Sam, now it's Rain), Amy dumps John, and now Shannon (whose supposed to be the sweet one) casually kicks Mars to the curb over a bad joke for someone she doesn't even know. The way they go about it just seems thoughtless to me. They lose interest. They kick the guy to the curb for someone new. And I thought guys were bad about this.

Rating: 6. This book seemed to focus a lot on expectations. Shannon barely knows this guy (Finn) and within minutes she's ready to give up on her pen pal. She's disappointed because he's not all that hot in academics which she has no prior reason to think he will be other than the fact that he's into journalism. Which I guess makes him brilliant. Because he shows interest in her again she interprets this as he's a nice guy and that after knowing her a short time he wants to date her. Granted he did kiss her. But these days guys can switch up in a heartbeat (Like Shannon soon learns). Lesson being don't walk away from the people that have been there for you for YEARS for someone you think you're in love with that may not be there tomorrow. And again we see Amy and a perfectly nice guy and she acts like the world's ended just because he sent her a painting of herself that she considered "horrible!" Amy, at least he TRIED! She acted like she was so embarrassed she was ready to throw the thing in the trash. I hope she's never a mother and has kids because they'll probably make her lots of ugly scribbled pictures of herself. This book taught a very good lesson about expecting too much out of people and when you do that what happens. Not every guy is going to have everything! Mars may not be Mr. Romance but he's been there for Shannon since the very first book and that speaks VOLUMES!

I loved this series when I was young - can't remember the age that I was - perhaps 11-13. I just know I loved these books!

Poor Shanon. She’s always been my favourite Pen Pals character, and even though she seems quite unlike herself in this book, it is still possible to picture her winding her way into the tangled mess she finds herself in in this book.
