After killing my mate to keep myself and my sister alive, I'm left picking up the pieces of my life as well as trying to deal with new problems. When two of my rabid wolves run off, my old alpha threatens to hunt them down if I don't find them. That sends me and the other rejects into overdrive as we work to retrieve the other wolves in time to prevent their deaths. Meanwhile, the memories of my torture continue to haunt me and Ginger, messing with our lives and the people around us. Knox is watching out for us too, but he's got problems of his own to deal with. I hoped my life would be smooth-sailing after I escaped the cages, but things are only getting more complicated. I've got to figure out how to juggle everything in my life… or my gift and my past might just overwhelm me for good.

Well, well, well....this took a strong turn for the better!

Storyline:
Picking up from book 1 we are still on the journey of the "mate killer" with a little sprinkle of the ever growing Rejected Mate Refuge. I was wonderfully surprised by a few twists found in this read. Book one fell a little above meh on my rating scale but Glass added a lot of great aspects to book 2. I flew through this read.

FMC:
Still soft hearted, gentle and sweet that sums up Cara. Considering her rejected gift this is the only way she could be written. For once, I lovingly accept this soft and sweet FMC. Cara is exactly what the rejected need and more importantly what Knox needs.

MC:
Finally we get more Knox. It feels wonderful to get a little more insight on Knox's past. Granted it is not the most loving one but it certainly fills in some gaps I found in book one. He is patient and incredibly thoughtful which is needed at the moment. Hoping book 3 reveals his alpha side.

Secondary characters:
Still underdeveloped in my opinion. Would love to feel more of a connection.

Looking forward to the finale!

Happy reading,
DD 💕

The storyline continues as Cara try’s to find a way to move on in this book. I enjoyed it because it felt like it was a good blend of her trying to get over what happened in book one. I love Knox. He is everything that Cara needs. The ending was not something I expected. It definitely threw me off in the storyline. I can’t wait to see what happens next in the next book. Seeing how strong Cara is how she is with her pack is beautifully done. Enjoyed this.

I don’t know why this book was called Wolf Charmer. Cara doesn’t charm anyone except Knox and it takes 2 entire books for the reader to find out he just loved her from the moment he saw her for no specific reason. Just because. (I’m guessing he feels guilty for selling wolves to a deranged person who makes them fight in a ring and a pretty girl got caught up in his bullshit). It drives me absolutely insane that Cara doesn’t get Knox’s humor she just can’t tell if he’s being mean or funny (multiple times)! He bullies her throughout the book and she accepts it as kindness and the reader is encouraged to accept this behavior as love. I was so tired of her weakness, sickness, and loneliness by the end of the book I couldn’t stand her. I’m trying to think back throughout the book to find one instance where Cara is strong and independent but there are none. Knox shows up every single time! He literally inserts himself between her and the wolf she’s supposed to be charming. It also drives me insane that she’s living with 15? Other wolves and hasn’t learned their names nor does she want too. She’s the wolf charmer who doesn’t want to know the wolves she’s charming. I get that she’s been through a lot but she’s not charming or taming anyone. She’s lost and broken and not strong or kind or funny. I’m not sure why she isn’t a side character in some other book. The cliffhanger ending told us just enough to know that the third book will be exactly like the first two.

Better

3.5 for me

Well then!

Reading this reminded me that one of the complicated people Cara had to deal with was her own wolf, who’d constantly lead her into bad things. Infuriating and frustrating. But thankfully Cara loved her through it all when I wanted to slap her instead so there’s that. I thought this installment was better than the first because of how much progress she and the others have.

I think it was equally infuriating for Cara to act oblivious. BEING oblivious is very different from being in denial and I wasn’t feeling the way things were written. She either knew about his feelings for her or didn’t. You can’t think someone’s not attracted to you and then panic when they wanna talk about their feelings. Panicking would imply that you knew there was a possibility doesn’t it? Which means you weren’t exactly oblivious. So just stuff like that bothered me.

I love her power and her calling as a wolf tamer. I honestly don’t know if I’ll jump on the third installment considering I’m either a mood reader or a binger. If the third book were already out I’d be reading it right after this.

Amazing series

I absolutely loved this series. The character development is amazing. The dialog is amazing. I'm absolutely in love with knox ( knockout) and Cara relationship. It's not very spicy, but there are some little spicy bits in the book. It's a very slow burn kinda series!

I know I have said this before with Lola's books, but I love the leading characters of this one! 🥰 Knox is the perfect werewolf boyfriend 😍. The side characters even have me loving them.
This series has had non-stop go from the beginning and continues to keep me on my toes. I can't wait for the conclusion of this series, but I'm also a little sad for it to end.

This is book two of the Rejected Mate Refuge series and the main character is Cara, whose wolf shifter goes by the name Ginger. She is one of many rejected fated mates, but in her case, her fated mate McCoy, sold her to a cage fighting club full of rabid werewolves. He tortured her, broke her bones and almost her spirit and when she escaped she thought she had killed him, until he turned up at the bakery she ran with one of her sisters. Her wolf Ginger and she fought him and Ginger bit out his heart, killing him for sure this time. Her wolf starts to call herself ‘Mate Murderer’ and takes over control, racing off into the woods. Her wolf had gone rabid and wasn’t listening to anything she tried to say or ask it to do. She only calmed down when Ko, a wolf she met in the cages, came up alongside her. He leads her back to the bakery and Ginger orders him to shift and open the door, allowing her a glimpse of his human form, Knox. She knows she won’t be welcome in town anymore and Ginger pushes for her duffel bag and wants it packed, so they can leave. She also needs to find the other rabid wolves she had rescued, Savage and Havoc, who are still unable to control their wolves much and Bulldozer and Claws, who would listen to Ryker, another friend. The last two rabid wolves went back to the van when Ryker asked, so now she just has her whole family outside the bakery and the alpha Mr Finch and his wife, to speak to.
Ryker is a very wealthy wolf shifter, after his whole family and the rest of his pack were killed by witches and he got a large insurance payout. He also has the ability to read anyone’s mind and is partnered by Shadow, whose ability is to be able to locate other rabid wolf shifters and tries to rescue as many as she can, for the refuge they set up. Rejected mates, either male or female, often go rabid after they are rejected and are then killed by the pack. Those that survive or have left their pack voluntarily, or been forced out for other reasons, all have a home with their rejected mate’s refuge. Cara’s ability is as a wolf tamer, her touch allows any rabid wolf to calm and eventually shift back into their human form. Many of them are happier in their wolf form to start with and she can’t leave them alone until they regain some of their sanity and can be trusted. Her family also reject her and want nothing to do with her once they find out she was rejected by McCoy, her fated mate, even after they are told what he did to her! The same is true in other packs, the rejected wolf is banished or killed even. Her old alpha has threatened to kill Havoc and Savage unless they can find them within a short space of time and get them out of town. Knox and his wolf Ko are trying to help look after Cara, after what she went through in the cages and now with having to kill McCoy.
Ginger reckons that Knox likes her as more than a friend and Ginger wants to mate his wolf Ko, definitely. Shadow and Ryker are supposedly just friends, but I would love to see them together romantically in the future. Knox was kicked out as alpha in waiting, under his own father, when his mate rejected him and he hasn’t seen any of his family or pack since. His mother finally contacts him with news of his father and he needs to go and deal with this, but can’t enter the pack lands without a mate! Everything is starting to get complicated, as they are also told of a rejected female mate on the pack’s lands that is being kept isolated from all the others and they want to rescue. Someone is attacking some of their rabid wolves and they don’t know who is behind this and why. When Cara sees someone closely linked to her abusive past, she runs away, but a message has been left for her. What that is all about, I can’t wait to find out in the next book. I missed out on the first book, but this could easily be read as a standalone, it just would have been nice to have read it first for more background. This is a different view of shifter life and what happens to rabid and rejected mates and a place they can actually go to heal. I really enjoyed this different take on the shifter genre and would recommend it to any who love a good shifter series. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

*trigger warnings for remembered images of physical assault, discussion of emotional and physical abuse*

I absolutely loved this book.

Lola Glass takes readers on a deeply emotional journey of rediscovery. After the traumas that Cara has faced, she needs to uncover who she will be in this new stage of her life. Facing rejection from her family and original pack, Cara finds a new (sometimes overly) welcoming family in the Rejected Mates Refuge pack. Knox, Shadow, Ryker and the others do their best to not only show their affection for her, but to give her a true place to rediscover her purpose and whatever she will need to emotionally recover and move forward.

As readers know, but Cara refuses to acknowledge, Knox would do ANYTHING to help Cara survive. His love is so strong that he will be the person she needs to fight in order to survive. The one who will catch her when she falls. His devotion is astounding. The way that Knox puts Cara above everything made my heart sing. And her avoidance of having to face his obvious feelings made me chuckle several times. BUT it was the fact that Knox never truly pushes Cara beyond the point he knows she's comfortable is what truly makes him the perfect potential mate. Her finding herself again is more important to him than just physically being with Cara.

The addition of new rejected female werewolves to the pack is interesting and I can't wait to see that further developed in the next book. I would love to see Cara develop some strong female relationships as well as having so many male wolves willing to follow her. I am so excited to see their pack grow, flourish, and become a model for other packs around them.

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW of Wolf Charmer by Lola Glass, the second book in the Rejected Mate Refuge trilogy. I love that this read picks up where the last book leaves us. The trauma of being a rejected mate is slightly mitigated by the rejected mate developing a gift. Cara's gift is being able to calm rabid wolves, which is important in helping the wolves at the Refuge. Just when Cara is beginning to recover after the fight club and her scheming ex-mate, life takes another left turn. Knox, Shadow, Rhyker and the rest of the wolves at the refuge are starting to settle down when trouble come calling again. Lots of action, drama and angst make this a hard read to put down. There is no resolution, but there is a mighty set up for the third book in that amazing trilogy!

This honest and voluntary review was made possible by obtaining a copy through Booksprout.

Finished this one in a sitting; it was fast paced and easy to fly through.

I enjoyed reading about Cara’s healing journey and I adore the side characters with their different personalities and elements they bring to the story.

The story was a bit repetitive by means of the day to day routines and, despite the journey of healing from her trauma, I didn’t quite understand what Cara’s aversion to eating was so I couldn’t really sympathise with that.

I did get a bit annoyed with Cara’s blasé thoughts towards Knox and I feel that a few of the snippets trying to bring humour into the story weren’t needed as there’s a lot of dark themes; to explore those themes properly and give them the attention they deserve, sometimes there’s literally no way or need to bring humour into it, and for me, it took away from the genuineness of the healing journey in a few places.

This second of the three books in the Wolf trilogy is not as good as the first but is still an OK read, better than most in the paranormal genre that is rife with grammatical and typographical errors. Again, I cannot condone cliffhanger endings and this one ends on a cliffhanger, just as the first one did. A good writer does not need to rely on cliffhangers to get her readers to continue reading her work. Because of this, I am not going to read any other books beyond, possibly, the third in this series. I am curious to see if the writing and the story devolve. I wonder if the third will be better or worse than this second book.

This book continues with the ongoing ludicrous interruptions to Cara and Knox’s love affair. There is so much wrong with these characters that I do not know where to start. Cara assumes guilt for deeds that she could not control. She is not responsible for the wolves being held in captivity. She is not responsible for bad things that happen to the pack. She is part of the problem, but certainly not the cause and her self-recriminations get old…very old. Her fractured wolf, Ginger, is also getting old. Neither is endearing to a reader. Knox is sometimes too much of a grumbler, his humor is lost on Cara sometimes…the reader, too. He is inconsistent; at times he is strong and kind, other times he becomes an obnoxious bully. And still other times he just disappears.

The book is slow paced. It could have been compressed and added to the first book (which required more editing in its own “write,” so to speak). This second book continues finding rabid wolves although the definition of rabid seems to be morphing as we move down the line of books in this trilogy. There’s just too much going wrong all the time. These characters cannot catch a break. It’s tiring to read and getting a trifle old and, horrible to say…boring in its sameness.

I am at war with myself. I do not want to continue – I can write my own ending in my head. However, my curiosity is invoked: I wonder if the writer can maintain character and plot integrity in a third book. This second book earned its 2.5 star rating, rounded up to a 3. It could just have easily been rounded down.

Good. But onto the next book with new characters. I should come back to this.

Read on kindle in one night. Pretty short and easy.

Key words- rejected mates, in a prison, she has special gifts to take them, cruel mates, lots of guys, fight ring

Plot:
I loved that the book jumped right in! Grabbed my attention to the story.
*her mate walks into her store and she’s soo happy she just goes with him. He rejects her. He kidnaps her.
* he sells her to a fighting ring, only to find out later he owns it. He is a monster.
* there she meets the other rejected males, 12 of them. And she has the power to bring back their humanity by touching them in her human form.
* he wants her right away, but knows she is not ready.
* she doesn’t know hoe to feel about him.
* they escape but not him. She finds his pack of 2 , ryker and shadow, and their refugee camp.
* they try to free him. But her wolf sees her mate and they all get captured.
* he beats her for two weeks before she finally has a chance to eapecape. But she is messed up.
*they go to her home, and her mate tries to kill her sister, so her wolf kills him.

Bad- her inner wolf almost had me moving on from this book. I now the mate bond is strong, but i didn’t like that her wolf could just take over any time. And that she didn’t see past her mates cruelty. And especially that she got them into the bad situation and then hid while she was being beaten!!at least she killed the mate in the end.

DNF 41%. I'm cutting myself off from this series. I know I won't feel happy about reading it so I am forcing myself to stop. My issues with it are listed below.

- Despite being incredibly traumatized Cara/Ginger still find the time to view and comment on the asses of many of the rejected males plus ogle Knox at every possible turn.
- Her family was so supportive at the end of book 1 that their attitude here felt like it came out of nowhere. Plus we really haven't spent any time with them so it all felt very surface level, almost like it happened just so Cara would have to leave with the other rejected mates.
- The whole situation with Justin. WTF was that? So random and weird and only included to set up a situation where Cara and Knox have to pretend to be mates.
- Cara consistently trying to convince herself that Knox does not want her. No one bought it Cara not even you and it was ridiculous to read repeatedly.
- It was slightly icky that pretty much all the rejected dudes decided that they wanted to date Cara in this book. I thought based on the previous book that none of the rapid wolves would have those feelings because of her wolf tamer powers and it was very disappointing for me.

While I am opting out of this series I will probably be willing to read other books by this author. I was avoiding her but I think I may have gotten her confused with another author. So maybe I'll give another series bu her a shot.

Caras character was ANNOYING!! Times she was mean to the wolves or hit them like they were her own personal pups... I know you were hurt and traumatized but I mean WOLF tf up! Yeah you killed him..he was gonna kill u! And how dense and in denial u have to be to understand if a man saves ur life I think he MAYYY more then like you ! I mean for a FREAKING werewolf you had to get carried and babied and forced fed like a newborn every 2 hours..yeah your wolves u dont know they're names...so the whole time u were treating Knox like crap was because u were soooooo possessive and didnt want him to smile at his ex BUT u kept pointing out wanting a human mate..dont get me started on GINGER!! She picked up the fact Knox loved them but not when her fated make from book 1 full on wanted to kill them. .REPEATEDLY..I stopped b4 going to the parents house. No romance..they kissed in the hotel..and I'm sorry but after all the crap we just went through..you confessed how u felt and I do too..WE ARE FUXING! !!!! Why the heck are we going to my family's home where they want me dead to try to save a girl who MAYYY want to leave because shes rejected and we have to bite each other and take 1n 18 hour road trip and pretend like we're FATED mates...like wattttt??? I'm over it..gonna find me some smut to read :)

No feel good vibes

This book is well written but it is a real mood killer.
I read these books because they are a little gritty but usually pure escapism.
Sure , "HistoricalRomance" ,Paranormal /Shifter" , "fantasy" and romance books have been used for decades to bring topics like abuse, and human trafficking into focus.
History buffs and Francophiles are well acquainted with Tracy Chevalier's novel , "The Virgin Blue" that talks about the ancient practice of infanticide/ sacrifice for purposes of keeping a home and family safe from evil.
Authors in the 1960's to the 1980's used fantasy and romance to show the cruel reality of the English Ton society and their indifference to the "lesser creatures of society" in exposing the real life " Virgin auctions" , the life of children not born into an Aristocracy. The horrific way buttons were made before plastic springs to mind.
The author's of the 1980's like Christine Feehan and Gina Showalter used " paranormal romance " to show the long term affect of abuse and human trafficking.
Those authors put in bits of humor needed at the end of the book even if the battle continues there was a feeling of hope .
This book does not end in hope but resignation. I really don't know if I want to continue with this series. I honestly can't recommend this book if you're looking for a " happy ever after" ending.

Okay, now I see how this story is 3 books long!

Lola Glass decided to add a bit of a twist to this story! I figured something must have been planned to be able to continue this story past two books!

So, unpopular opinion here, I'm sure. Some of the Rejected Wolves were rejected because they slept around before meeting their fated mates. If they were raised knowing they had a fated mate, I could actually see the reason why the one would want to reject them. It's kind of like cheating without knowing the person yet. Is it worth rejecting the wolf rather than just trying to work things out? Probably not, depending on the situation, but I do get it!

This book is making me almost suspicious of a couple of characters, and at the same time in my head I'm trying to figure out if certain wolves are going to end up together, so it's a bit fun to guess while reading! I also tend to try and predict things throughout the books I read, so I'm curious to see if I'm right about any of my other theories!

This has continued to be a great story, and I like that the characters are working through their struggles, trying to be strong but also having moments of weakness where they need help. It's giving them depth, which I really like.

Can't wait to get started on book #3!

I feel like this book was one of the best written. That says a lot because I love all her books. I feel like it dove into the truth of the terrifying battle we must face when we take a life. Something that the hunger games books does well to capture too. A lot of books want to just bury it and forget we are human. I also love the two main characters the storyline is well developed and their relationship is just pure. Ashley you meet in this book along with Knox’s family she’s horrible don’t like them. Also I dislike her family the most what the actual heck is their problem they are a disgrace and when they are in danger and come calling they better be thankful that she has a kind soul. That also proves it more too cara has strength and also the ability to kill but her greatest strength is her heart. Read this series. The only problem is the cliffhanger ending….

2.5 ⭐️

Again, this book is okay but not great. There’s really not a whole lot to the plots of these books until the very end for cliffhangers, however, you still enjoy reading the book for the most part.

Things that bothered me:
- Her family and the way they treated her. The author tried making the feelings complex but really, our FMC was just justifying shitty behaviors.
- Cara’s moral compass for killing her mate. He beat the shit out of you repeatedly and rejected you. Killing him was justified and making her question that just creates an overly weak FMC that will accept anything.
- Shifters are typically described as badasses, but the shifters in this series are rather mundane and traditional. They seem to not be able to handle anything other than the rejects.

What’s keeping me reading is that the “bad guys” plot is building and getting larger than originally thought.

Over One Hurdle and Smack into Another

This book picks up with Ginger/Cara running and being follwed by Knox after Ginger murdered McCoy and shows us what happened during the run.
As if it wasn't enough killing her tormentor her Alpha follows up and kicks her out the pack. Which leads to Cara's family pissing me off with their outlook of the rejected mate situation and how they treated their own daughter

As for my two favorite side characters, Shadow and Ryker, I wonder if they will become a thing because I ship them.

Just when we think things are calming down, the crew gains two more "rabids" a note with a message and website and to top it all off. .. a fire and kidnapped wolves.

How will the pack of rejected wolves handle everything that has just been thrown at them and will they all survive?

***CLIFFHANGER***
***Trigger warnings: violence, abuse, including domestic abuse, and abandonment on page***

Please note that you really do need to have read the first story for this one to make sense.

I find this author’s writing complex and engaging, detailed and energetic, and deeply emotionally moving. This story continued to cover many complex aspects of the challenges now facing the main characters whilst introducing a new bad guy for them to pursue.

The story is female lead POV only, though the epilogue is male lead only. I prefer dual POV. The story is well written, and ends again on a cliffhanger. Just waiting for the next one.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I think I start literally every Lola Glass review by saying it's my new favorite... but that keeps being true!! I adore this series. This was a great continuation of book one, and we got so much more of Knox and Cara's relationship growth! I loved seeing Cara learn to rely on her new pack and start to work on the trauma of what she's been through. There's some tough things that happen in this book, but overall, this was more about the development between Cara and Knox. I loved the way they fit together and how Cara was proved wrong about Knox. And Knox is just the best. I love him so much. And I really love all of the other side characters too. They grow even more loveable. I love the rejected pack's dynamics and learning more of everyone's backstories. I can't wait for the next book!!

Yes! I love the connection growing! I really am enjoying this series, and characters.
But I am also not sure about some things with this author .
So I am new to this author Lola Glass. I tried her other series and had to stop mid book 2. There is a theme that keeps happening. The author seems very very prejudice about Sex. Very against, multiple sex partners..... Any (pre marital) pre mating sex. Lots of quotes, making the characters dirty or unworthy if the did have sex with before finding a mate.
She loves virgins, full of sexual frustration.

Makes me wonder if she was raised evangelical Christian or Baptist. (Coming from someone raised that way. And fighting to find my own way. And now has guilt about normal things.)
Either Lola Glass is still very religious or can't quite get away from the teaching of her childhood.

Wonderful rollercoaster of emotions

Oh goodness this book was a rollercoaster of emotions! I cried and raged with Cara over her evil family, I laughed with the friends dynamics and love every time Cara connects with a Wolf. I found myself smiling way more than I should have when Cara and Knox were flirting and figuring out their relationship.

This book is amazing and I don’t want this story to end- the healing part of this story hits home for anyone that’s ever felt broken and just wants to feel loved and heard and needed.
I love this authors writing style and I want her build more of this story, I need more Lola Glass!

From rejection to being loved and caref for

Just finished the 2nd . Have stayed up until1.00am to finish. The moon goddess us blessing those rejected with their own unique power. This makes them more as long as they can take control over their instincts to hide with their wolves. The rejected pack is beginning to gel. The fantastic relationship between Kara and Knox is growing. The description of the tortures and injuries and now the healing and caring is becoming increasingly important. It is a hard read at times but the future is looking bright. Looking forward to number three. Excited too.

Thrilling Read

The only 'issue' with book is a few occasions of missed proofreading a her vrs his, and flipped relation like. But knowing storyline easy to correct in your own mind.
THAT being said... This book otherwise was so fluid of a read I practically "Inhaled" the book. The writing plays So easily it's more like A mental movie playing out in my mind than just words in a book! I LOVE the chemistry of characters & dynamics played out. The path of healing & being healed by a created family & chosen loved ones is beautiful. ONLY wish is for not to be a trilogy and just keep going 😄
Truly I could rave on, but just try it for yourself & Enjoy the Adventure!

Great continuation of this series, and love the balance of dealing with Cara’s healing and the romance. My only criticism of this book would be lack of wider world building. In this book we get to see the werewolves interact more with the human world, and there is a lack of explanation on what the relationship between the human and werewolf societies. I wasn’t sure if the humans knew about werewolves, if they interacted friendly or what the cultural norms between the two species were.

next book

Another great read

Finally something is happening between two of the werewolf shifts hehe
About bloody time if you ask me
It was just getting interesting till certain members of the family was getting in the way grrr

Ok so when you feel like it’s the end finally for certain bad things, a new threat appears
It’s got me puzzled and what this new threats end game is

It gets Better & Better

Im so intrigued and want to know who is truly in charge of what's happening! I have so many questions, one I keep asking myself is did her mate know what her gift would be? Why do they want her so much? I need answer's and this book answered the one's I had from book 1, but I need more! Cara is working on healing but her past wont let her but I know Knox wont give up and Im so happy with where their relationship is at! I definitely can't wait to see this all unravel!

love this series

Knox and Cara are back with group. After Cara kills McCoy things change. What was suppose to be a happy reunion quickly fades, finding a new home and way of life is going to be a struggle. However with the rabid wolves and Knox what more could she want ? Things are changing between them, and Cara is starting to heal. When they have to go to Knox’s old pack and deal with past people coming back things are gonna change yet again. Who can they trust. Who do they believe.
