Night of the Were-Cat by Eileen Watkins is the sixth book in the cozy A Cat Groomer Mystery series. Each book in the series has it’s own murder to be solved so they could be read as a standalone or in any order if choosing to do so. There is however a bit of character development that carries over from book to book for the fans who have read the entire series.
This series if centered around Cassie McGlone who had moved to the picturesque town of Chadwick to give herself a fresh start after leaving a horrible relationship. Cassie had opened her own shop, Cassie’s Comfy Cats, a cat grooming and boarding specialty boutique and had begun making a name for herself in the small town both for her unique business and cat knowledge and for becoming the town sleuth when murders occur.
This time around Cassie helps the owner of the retro movie theater in town come up with a plan for a promotion for the werewolf movie marathon. Cassie’s idea is to let folks enter a werewolf lookalike contest getting the idea from her latest border Quentin, a Maine Coon, who resembles a werewolf himself. Just as Cassie and her boyfriend, the local vet, are helping with the contest though someone breaks into the vet clinic and steals all the drugs leaving Cassie searching for the culprit.
The A Cat Groomer Mystery series is another cozy series that I have followed from the beginning and always look forward to coming back to. The author does a wonderful job bringing in all things kitty to where I feel like I’ve learned a thing or two even being a long time kitty pet owner. This is definitely one for the animal lovers and it has just that right mix of humor and quirkiness with likable characters I enjoy each trip back to the series.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
Night of the Were-Cat Earns 5/5 Treats & Trials…Clever & Engaging!
It’s Halloween in Chadwick, New Jersey, and Cassie McGlone, owner of Cassie’s Comfy Cats, a grooming and boarding destination, is excited about the various activities happening to celebrate the season: a pet parade, photo contest, an art gallery exhibition, a cable television psychic, and a week-long marathon of classic werewolf films. It’s the perfect environment for tricking and treating, but it takes a darker turn when a night out with her handsome boyfriend veterinarian Dr. Mark Coccia is interrupted by a phone call about a break in at his clinic. The night shift attendant was overtaken by a solo intruder, forced to open the unmarked drugs’ closet, and choked to unconsciousness. The why is obviously drugs. The how is suspiciously an inside job. The who implicates the staff. And when a drug overdose death of a young woman is reported, the police widen their investigation from the clinic to the roadhouse hangout where many unsavory incidents have occurred. An undercover operation might be a good place to start, but who doesn’t look like a cop, have history with the place, or is available to take the assignment? Cassie volunteers along with her close friend Dawn for a girl’s night out to check into the place. It turns out to be an interesting evening that leads to police intervention, but it’s like stirring a hornet’s nest…someone’s going to get stung!
Eileen Watkins’ eighth Cat Groomer Mystery is a cozy Halloween treat with talk of costumes, horror movies, and pumpkin spice coffee putting me in the mood. The mystery shows the dark side of a small town with vicious thefts, physical assaults, drug dealing, and the innocent and not-so innocent casualties. Although Cassie and her friends actively get involved in the investigation or offer insights for its direction, some of the action takes place off the page including a deadly traffic accident. The drug ring idea offers a dramatic element and a hidden identity of the supplier casts suspicions on many residents and visitors. Although the final reveal was one of a few on my radar, the ending “cliff” hanger was intense. Cassie is a clever character running a fun business, surrounded by diverse friends, involved in an endearing, healthy relationship, and up for all sorts of pursuits, not all life threatening. Fun treat for any time of the year!
Disclosure: I received an ARC from Kensington thru NetGalley. My review is voluntary with honest insights and comments.

“Cat and mystery lovers alike will be charmed.” —Publishers Weekly (Amazon)
Review:
The characters are well rounded and well developed. Cassie is very happy with the way her cat grooming business is going. It is Halloween time and Cassie and her friends are enjoying the activities of the season. Cassie’s boyfriend, Mark has had a breakin at his clinic and anesthetics were stolen. When they are suspects in the robbery, including Mark, Cassie decides to try to figure out what happened.
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and because of this I was engaged in the book right from the start. The writing style flows smoothly and it defines the characters by their actions and words. The mystery was well plotted and it will take all of your detective skills to solve it.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a well written cozy mystery. If you are an animal lover, this book is for you. If you are a cat lover, it is a must read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.
When I saw the cover, I knew this was the book for me! When Cassie McGlone, comes up with an idea to dress-up Chadwick, New Jersey's lovable pets, to promote a werewolf movie marathon, she has no idea how the chain of events will lead to a robbery and a murder - putting her boyfriend Mark, right in the middle of the mystery.
Cassie is such a likable main character - she's straightforward, determined to make her Comfy Cats Grooming Service successful and enjoy her relationship with the town veterinarian Dr. Mark Coccia as well as doing a bit of sleuthing. The supporting characters are well-written and I enjoy the small town atmosphere of Chadwick. The book kept me guessing and the twists and turns were fun! I loved the descriptions of the pets costumes and the personalities of their owners. Quentin the Maine Coon, represented on the cover was spectacular. He does look like a little werewolf!
I'm looking forward to the next book and finding out what Cassie is up to!
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
There are some purely delightful scenes in this novel, and some horribly frightening ones unrelated to the fascinating cat on the cover. I thoroughly enjoyed this newest Cat Groomer mystery, from the cats to the pet events, from the characters to the mystery. Cassie’s Cozy Cats has been open only a couple years, but it is the premier pet grooming and boarding facility in town. Cassie is very happy doing what she does, and life is good.
Halloween is a couple weeks away and events have been scheduled. One is a pet parade that will raise money for the local animal shelter. Dogs will be the primary participants in it, and the pets can wear costumes if the owners desire. Cassie and her assistant, Sarah, get an idea for another one when meeting the uniquely patterned Maine Coon cat, Quentin Collins, named after the werewolf from Dark Shadows, an old soap opera.
Quentin is bigger than the average Maine Coon. His color and pattern make the gentle giant look like a wolf, or this close to Halloween, a werewolf. It was a pity that cats and dogs, no matter how well trained they are, do not always get along well. This would be the perfect fur baby to win a pet parade if most participants weren’t dogs!
That evening, Cassie and her boyfriend Mark, a vet at a nearby clinic, went to a movie theater that shows classic movies. The usher told them about movies being shown before Halloween, including the werewolf movies that will be shown during Halloween week. The theater owner wants to find something special to draw in moviegoers. Cassie told the usher and Mark about the cat they currently have in their shop and the idea Sarah and Cassie had, and the usher will present it to the owner.
An emergency called them to the veterinary clinic. The evening tech was accosted when going into the clinic, threatened, and forced at gunpoint to open the room where anesthetics and narcotics were kept. Days later, a young woman died because of taking, or being slipped, a drug that may have been stolen from the clinic.
Cassie has helped solve murders and other crimes since moving to Chadwick. She knows nothing about drugs and doesn’t plan to get involved in this case. At least not until the parents of the girl who died wants to sue the veterinary clinic, even though it can’t be proven the drug she died from was stolen from there. Cassie asked Angela, the police detective, what she could do to help. As a result, Cassie and her best friend Dawn go to The Roost, a dance club where single women have been drugged and harmed in recent months. Cassie saw a man put something in a woman’s drink when her head was turned. Her actions to protect the woman puts Cassie on a killer’s “most-wanted” list.
Cassie, Dawn, Sarah, and Mark are the kind of neighbors I would like to have. They are smart, funny, loyal, and dedicated to helping animals. Sarah, Mark, and Cassie’s ideas that led to the theater’s special photo contest for non-canine pets was great fun for all involved. It drew many into the theater to vote and learn about upcoming movies. Cassie and Dawn make a great sleuthing team, and I enjoyed meeting the quirky owner of the theater, Avery Lathrop. Most of the characters are colorful and endearing.
This is a terrific mystery! The characters have rich, full lives yet still help in their community. The initial crime was harsh enough, especially for the vet tech, for the clinic to lose drugs that had to be carefully logged per statutory requirements and potentially face a lawsuit. There were several possible scenarios in which the theft could have taken place and who the thief and dealers are. There were red herrings and plot twists that kept me guessing. The solution was perfect, and there were no loose ends. I even liked the winner of the pet photo contest. Overall, I loved this latest offering in the series, and highly recommend it!
Night of the Were-Cat by Eileen Watkins will have you holding your breathe and on the edge of your seat. Night of the Were-Cat is the sixth book in her Cat Groomer Mystery series and it will have the hair on the back of your neck standing up !!
The Cat Groomer Mystery series follows main character Cassie as she runs her cat groomer and boarding business, dates a local veterinarian, hangs with her best friend Dawn, and gets in the middle of a murder investigation. And in Night of the Were-Cat she gets too close to the killer for anyone's comfort !!
In the Night of the Were-Cat it is almost Halloween and everyone is excited for a new venture....the local movie theater has a new owner and he wants to bring more business to the theater so he is running old Halloween movies and when a cat that looks like a werewolf is brought into Cassie's Comfy Cats, Cassie gets the idea to run a werewolf lookalike contest for all animals non-canine. Seeing as the town is already doing a dog parade it only seemed fair.
Little did Cassie know that Mark's veterinarian clinic was going to be robbed of medicines and someone was going to overdose on those drugs and Cassie was going to get in deep in the investigation......but everyone should have guessed that seeing as that is exactly what she does and seeing as someone very close to her is affected, it should have come as no surprise.
The Cat Groomer Mystery series has so much that readers will love. Once you start reading you become an instant fan and want to return to Cassie's Comfy Cats and Chadwick, New Jersey as often as you can. And a little thing called murder only adds to the appeal.....you will want to make sure the case is solved and everyone involved gets justice.
This is the sixth book in a series about Cassie McGlone and the mysteries she solves that have cats in their midst. In this book, I was pleased to meet up with Cassie again who is an expert cat groomer in and around Chadwick, New Jersey. The owner of Cassie’s Comfy Cats is very busy and a customer brings in Quentin, a Maine Coon who looks a bit like a wolf giving Cassie an idea; a werewolf lookalike contest for pets. Then things really get hot for Cassie when her vet boyfriend, Mark, has a break-in at his clinic and some drugs are stolen. Later, a young woman dies in a drug incident. Aided by her best friend, Dawn, Cassie sets out to find out who stole the drugs.
Although book #6 in the Cat Groomer Mystery series, this can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. With a compelling plot, drama aplenty, a great bunch of characters, and oodles of mayhem added to the mix, this was a fantastic read that kept me on my toes. Eileen Watkins' easy writing style is a good fit for me and I would like to read the first books I've missed in this series as I thoroughly enjoyed Night of the Were-Cat. Very highly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
Is that a ferocious-looking cat on the cover or what? It is a color variation of Maine Coon cats, some of the larger and gentlest felines one can ever own.
It is almost Halloween, and several events have been planned in Chadwick, where Cassie lives and has her cat grooming and boarding business. Few events can include cats, however, due to how cats and dogs who are unfamiliar with each other may get along. The perfect opportunity arises when Cassie and her boyfriend Mark, a veterinarian, go to a classic movie theater. They learn that there will be special movies the week of Halloween, and the owner would like to come up with an even that would bring people into the elegantly restored facility.
They help come up with an idea for a werewolf look-alike contest for non-canine pets. The public will be invited to vote on the pets and hopefully stick around, or return, for a movie. Cassie already has the perfect pet in mind – a larger-than-usual Maine Coon cat who had been brought in for grooming with the coloring and pattern to resemble a wolf more than a feline. Or, for the werewolf movies shown for Halloween at the theater, a werewolf. The Maine Coon was even named Quentin Collins after the werewolf from a classic soap opera, Dark Shadows.
In the meantime, the veterinary clinic where Mark works was broken into and drugs from the hidden, locked cabinet were stolen. Within days, a lawsuit was threatened against the clinic after a young woman died from an anesthesia-type drug such as was stolen from the clinic. It was not known if someone drugged her or she obtained the drug, or even where it had been obtained. Cassie and her best friend Dawn help with the investigation and see a man slipping something into a woman’s drink at a bar. Cassie’s reaction puts a target on her back, but she isn’t ready to back off yet.
This is a series I have really enjoyed, including this latest in the series. The characters are solid and three dimensional, and I like how community-minded each person is. The mystery was very intriguing and kept me guessing. Whodunit was identified, and there were no open questions left at the end. I highly recommend this novel and series to those who enjoy well-plotted cozy mysteries with cats and cat-related businesses.
Princess Fuzzypants here: Cassie is such a great character and I do enjoy the humans who interact with her. It is a series of which I am fond but I absolutely loved this one. I was held from beginning to end and it is not just because she is a cat groomer. And it is not because one of the main feline characters is a gorgeous smoke Maine Coon named Quentin. Although I do confess I was a bit taken abAuckland when a noble and handsome creature could be compared to a were-wolf. We Maine Coons are far classier. But I did like how Quentin was the star of the show.
No, the story itself was great. Cassie and her boyfriend Mark convince a local entrepreneur to hold a Halloween Pet contest. But before there are any treats, there is a horrible trick played on Mark. His vet clinic is robbed of drugs and everyone is under the pall of suspicion especially after there is an overdose at a party that seems to be linked back to the theft. It soon becomes clear this is not a one-off when the primary suspect is murdered. There is a drug ring in town and Cassie offers to survey the place that might be a hotbed. This leads to one of the things I like best about the series. There is a mutual respect between our heroine and the police. While they do not encourage her to do anything dangerous, they are aware that she has good powers of observation and instincts.
The kingpin of the ring clearly does not want Cassie to get any closer and tries to frighten her and Dawn. But Cassie is on the scent. She is cautious but in spite of her awareness of her own safety, the villain still manages to put her life at risk. And boy that was an exciting climax. It had me on the edge of my seat. And the reveal was not a foregone conclusion so it kept me guessing. I liked it. I liked it a lot. Five purrs and two paws up. And not just for Quentin. For him I would give five and a half purrs.
Cassie McGlone is an animal lover who runs Cassie's Comfy Cats, a boarding and grooming facility for cats, in Chadwick, New Jersey. When a customer brings in a large Maine Coon who looks a lot like a werewolf, Cassie gets an idea. She suggests a pet werewolf lookalike contest to promote the movie theater and the weeklong werewolf movie marathon in time for Halloween.
But there's also some bad things happening in town. Mark's (Cassie's boyfriend) veterinarian clinic is robbed at gunpoint with all the drugs being taken. Soon after, a girl dies from a drug overdose that may not have been something she took. In order to help the police, Cassie and her friend, Dawn, go "undercover" to singles night at a local bar to ferret out information on party drugs. But someone thinks Cassie may be getting too close.
I've really enjoyed this series and this book is no exception. It's another outstanding story in an excellent series that the author keeps fresh. The book's well-written with well-rounded characters, some of whom you'll like and others you won't. I love Cassie who is independent and intelligent with a curious mind that often allows her to find clues for whatever case she helps solve. Her love for animals, especially cats, is awesome. I was drawn into this captivating story and kept hooked from beginning to end, reading it in one sitting. The one thing that I wanted to know in the end, which wasn't covered, is what happened to the bad guy's dog. I'm looking forward to more from this series very much. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order for the most enjoyment and benefit.
Halloween is fast approaching in Chadwick, New Jersey, and when Cassie McGlone, owner of Cassie’s Comfy Cats grooming and boarding business, meets Quentin, the Maine Coon cat who looks more lupine than feline, she’s struck by a great idea to help the local owner of the retro movie house promote a werewolf marathon that’s playing as a lead-in to Halloween. She suggests a werewolf-look-a-like pet photo contest.
Ratcheting up the tension in Chadwick, the local veterinary clinic is burgled and some pretty potent drugs are stolen, followed by an overdose death.
Cassie is dating one of the vets at the clinic, and her boyfriend Mark is scrambling to help police discover how and why the break-in occurred despite the great security they have in place. Is it an inside job? Did someone give private information to unscrupulous criminals?
In order to help out, Cassie and her friend Dawn go undercover at a local hangout, hoping to score some information on who the thieves are. They get a lot more than they were expecting and both are soon in danger.
It’s always a treat to sit back with a novel by Ms. Watkins. She creates believable characters and the plot twists keep you guessing on who it could be. Night of the Were-Cat is no exception and it was great to spend some time with the citizens of Chadwick, solving a mystery and meeting some interesting humans and felines along the way.
For the cat lover/cozy mystery lover, this is a must read series. Each of the six books - so far - can be read as a stand alone. The location for the series is Chadwick, NJ and the main character is Cassie McGlone, owner of Cassie's Comfy Cats. She is the town cat groomer and cat boarder - the local cat expert. But that's not all. Cassie is also known for her detecting skills when it comes to crime...like the occasional murder. Cassie has an idea to help a local business. The retro movie theater is going to show a werewolf movie marathon. When she sees Quentin, a gorgeous Maine Coon who bears a striking resemblance to a werewolf, she gets the idea of having a pet themed werewolf look-a-like contest to showcase the marathon. Then things really heat up for Cassie when her boyfriend, Mark, a local vet, has a break-in at his clinic and drugs are stolen that later turn out to be the cause of death for a young woman. With the help of her BFF, Dawn, Cassie sets out to find out who stole the drugs. It all makes for a great reading escape as the reader follows the twists, turns and red herring to solve the crime. My thanks to the publisher Kensington and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
NIGHT OF THE WERE-CAT by Eileen Watkins The Sixth Cat Groomer Mystery
As Halloween draws ever closer things are getting scary in Chadwick, New Jersey. Some things are scary fun, like cat groomer Cassie McGlone's idea to have a werewolf look alike contest for pets to drive traffic to the town's newly renovated movie theatre and her friend Dawn's booking of a psychic to give readings at her store. Then there's the frightening reality of the robbery at the animal clinic. It appears a drug ring is operating in town and everyone at the clinic is under a cloud of suspicion. When a local young woman dies of an overdose Cassie decides to get involved. Soon Cassie will have more than unruly cats and her ancient heating system to worry about. Will she make it through Halloween unscathed?
The sixth Cat Groomer Mystery delves into modern societal issues such as drug abuse and its dangers, including drink spiking, while highlighting majestic Maine Coon cats. It's a sophisticated mystery that still is plenty of fun.
Cassie is a team player and I like how she works with her friends and the police. In the pursuit of the truth she may go a bit too far, but generally she is intelligent about her actions and tries to cover her bases. The relationship between Cassie and Mark makes me smile, and I admit I thought he was about to give her something different at the end of the story. Despite Cassie's skepticism, I love the appearance of Ripley Van Eyck and I hope he comes back in future books.
With thrills, chills, and charming cats, Halloween themed NIGHT OF THE WERE-CAT is a delight to read at any time of the year.
Night of the Were-Cat by Eileen Watkins (Cat Groomer Mystery #6) 5 stars
Cassie McGlone, owner of Cassie's Comfy Cats Grooming Service is back again saving the cats from a bad hair day. It is Halloween in Chadwick, New Jersey and the spooks abound. But Cassie's boyfriend vet clinic has their drug cabinet broken into. Later, a young woman dies of a ketamine overdose. Is there a connection? At the request of the local police, Cassie and her best friend Dawn go undercover at a popular bar and find some drug activity. Some individuals are busted and leads are followed. Is this the end of her civic duty or did she just put herself in the crosshairs of a killer.
I love this series because the main character, Cassie McGlone is an independent woman doing what she loves. She uses her mind and observational skills to solve the occasional mystery. There was a scary part towards the end, but all's well that ends well. Cassie will continue to make the feline world a better place. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Books for this ARC.
I don't give away spoilers in my reviews. I picked up this copy of Night of the Were-Cat at a Goodwill and loved the photo on the cover. It's also the end of September and I thought it would be a great read for this Fall. It's a fast read at 244 pages as well, so perfect for a Sunday afternoon. Cassie owns a cat grooming salon and dates the local vet, Mark. She's apparently helped the Chadwick Police Dept solve other crimes but since this is the first book I've read of Eileen Watkins' A Cat Groomer Mystery series, I wasn't aware of that fact. This book was easily read as a stand alone and I didn't feel as if I was losing any knowledge of the character. Of course there is a lot of bad things happening in the small town and Cassie lends a hand. I especially loved her CCC salon and the description of all the different cats in the book from her boarders to Quentin to her own cats Mango, Matisse and Cole. I live next to a Maine Coon cat and he behaves a lot like Quentin does so that was fun for me to read.
Someone has broken into Mark's veterinary practice, attacked his assistant, and stolen drugs! It looks like an inside job but even worse, one of the drugs was used on a young woman, who died. Cassie, our intrepid protagonist, is determined to find the culprit so she, along with her friend Dawn, start investigating. At the same time, she's been inspired by grooming client Quentin the Maine Coon who looks like a were-wolf. This is classic cozy territory - murder, pets, BFF, and a love interest. I've liked this series in the past but this time out, Dawn and Cassie took some risky and ill advised actions. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. It might seem odd to read a Halloween themed cozy in February but it worked.
If you like cats and are up for a good mystery, this is your book. Cassie McGlone's Comfy Cats grooming service has room for boarding cats and grooming. A customer brings in Quentin a Maine Coon cat that looks more like a wolf than a feline. She decides to help the local Retro movie theater by promoting a werewolf movie marathon by having a look alike contest with animals. However she can't help herself from getting involved in a mystery of some sort. This one is the result of her boyfriends veterinary clinic being robbed of drugs. Soon after a young woman at a party dies from a drug related incident. Cassie wants to help so she and her friend decide to do some undercover work at a local bar to check if there is an undercover drug party ring.
This was the first of this series I've read, but easy enough to jump into. I liked their ideas for activities and contests for animals besides dogs. I like dogs, but as a non-dog owner I know how hard it is to find things that aren't geared towards dogs only. Wish there were contests like this here. There were spots where things slowed down and had too much filler. While there's the pet costume contests, I didn't get as much of a Halloween vibe as I have from some other seasonal books I've read, and Halloween is one of my favorite holiday settings for a book. I liked the characters and enjoyed getting to know them throughout the book. I'd be interested in reading others to get the full picture.
The cover of Eileen Watkins’ newest Cassie McGlone adventure sets the tone for this Halloween-themed mystery with the photo of a Maine Coon that looks more wolf than feline. While Quentin, the Maine Coon, provides an interesting subplot, the real action is around the break-in and theft of drugs at boyfriend Mark’s vet clinic that results in a drug death. Cassie, girlfriend Dawn, and Mark begin investigating.
Ms. Watkins’ sixth Cat Groomer Mystery is another well-conceived cozy. Again, the author introduces new characters with this visit to Chadwick, NJ, and keeps readers up-to-date with community regulars. And Ms. Watkins always provides appropriate feline antics to the mix.
This is book 6 in the Cat Groomer cozy series. Cassie is visited by a friend looking to get her Maine Coon cat groomed. They joke about entering him into the towns Halloween Pet parade to raise money for the local shelter. It seems there is a drug dealer in town and he's making sure no one interrupts his operation. When someone breaks into Cassie's boyfriend's Veterinarian Clinic and a local woman dies from drugs stolen from there Cassie investigates to eliminate him as a suspect. I wish I had read some of the previous books in the series to have a little background but it was still a good cozy. I received a copy of this aRC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Night of the Were-cat is as the title suggests, even though the Night of the Were-cat is about a Halloween photo contest utilizing non dogs but cats and other animals. The photo contest is slightly spoken about in the background whereas other circumstances is the main subject. Great characters and events that are happening so that Cassie pokes her nose in with helping the local police with their investigation into crimes. The story is hard to put down and events that occur leads to red herrings dead ends .
Cassie McGlone’s Comfy Cats grooming service can turn a scruffy stray into a glamorous Cat-dashian. But with a drug-peddling killer at loose in her picturesque hometown of Chadwick, New Jersey, she’ll need to comb through some dangerous suspects to avert a catastrophe… Fun mystery with cats! Cassie is a great MC that you really connect with. This is my first book in the series and it was easy. I will go back and catch up. #NightoftheWereCat #NetGalley
I'm a huge fan of this series as the books are always entertaining and compelling. This was a gripping story that kept me turning pages. A bit darker than the average cozy mystery, it's a twisty and well written mystery that kept me guessing (even if I had some suspects). I was glad to catch up with the relatable and fleshed out character. Can't wait to read the next story. Highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
As always a joy to catch up with Cassie, her colleagues and friends, her boyfriend, the local vet and Cassie’s Comfy Cats, her grooming business. It’s Hallowe’en in Chadwick, New Jersey which has excited by all things spooky. Cassie is intrigued by one of her clients, Quentin, a huge Maine Coon, more wolf looking than feline. Preparations are marred by a burglary at Mark’s clinic, targeting anaesthetic drugs and then a murder. All is solved satisfactorily. A delight to read.
I enjoyed the storyline of incorporating a pet contest that centered around Halloween. I felt the story was slow at times and there was a reach for our heroine to involve herself in the mystery. While I normally enjoy this series, I found the indiscriminate use of exclamation marks to be annoying.
I received this book either from a contest or from the publisher. Solid cozy mystery. Part of a series. Good mystery, likeable characters, good story. Solvable by the reader but not obvious. If you are looking for an animal-based series this is a good one. Younger characters so relatable for those under 40.
Love this series! Fast paced with plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing. Fun characters. Cassie is a believable character that draws the reader in. Really enjoyed this book. Keep this series going please.
I would love to have a Maine Coon. They are so beautiful. If a reader likes Maine Coons they will like this book. I had to laugh that the younger characters, including the main character didn't get the reference to the name of the cat.
