A family saga of biblical proportions . . . When Abram’s brother, Haran, is found dead in their father’s field, Sarai, Lot, and Abram’s fates become intertwined.
As their family’s desires clash, they must discover how to navigate increasingly dangerous circumstances.
From forced marriage, to fleeing the wrath of an angry city-state, and deceiving the pharaoh of Egypt, will they honor the Almighty and find the inheritance God promised? Or will they choose their own path and forge on into ruin?
Find out in this first book on the lives of Abram, Sarai, and Lot, based on Genesis 11:26 – Genesis 13:1.
Brennan McPherson writes epic biblical fiction with an imaginative twist. With heart-pounding plots and lyrical prose, McPherson crafts a different sort of biblical fiction for readers who like to be challenged to think. “Death came quickly and unexpectedly to Abram’s brother, Haran.”
Brennan McPherson’s ABRAM, a historical novel, takes readers on a journey where they’ll meet the Jewish patriarch Abram, his wife Sarai, and nephew Lot. But this is not the same story you first heard in Sunday School. As a novelist, McPherson offers intriguing, yet plausible, answers to questions of motivation and backstory about which you may have wondered.
Vividly told in the points of view of Abram and Sarai, the book transported me to the ancient world of Sumer and the journey on which Abram and his family embark as they leave Ur. This was my favorite aspect of the novel – its story world and the journey. At first, I struggled with Abram’s actions and motivations regarding his marriage, but later as his past was revealed, I understood. We all are marked by the trials we have endured.
ABRAM easily stands alone, but McPherson has a sequel in the works for readers who love series. He has also written several other titles in ancient history, including EDEN, which I also read and enjoyed.
I highly recommend ABRAM for readers who enjoy historical fiction set in biblical times and those who are fans of Mesu Andrews, Connilyn Cossette, and Jill Eileen Smith.
Abram: The Early Years of Abram, Sarai, and Lot follows the three title characters from childhood well into adulthood. McPherson does a great job continuing the Fall of Man series and references moments and characters in the previous books often. When reading through the book, I found myself looking forward to how the author would represent the scriptures I knew within each chapter. However, many of the things I expected to happen in this book did not.
McPherson continues to emphasize the scriptures pointing to Jesus all along and, in one scene, he even paints a beautiful portrait of God’s plan to bring restoration to mankind through Abram’s bloodline.
Parts of this book address intimate topics, but never did it feel like those scenes were the focal points of the storyline.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and I look forward to what may be coming next.
Brennan has written several gripping biblical fiction works, this being the most recent that I’ve read. He writes from a fresh point of view, attempting to add ito the Bible stories the subplots that plausibly could have driven the facts that the Bible says. I find them a helpful "jarring" to my complacent knowledge of the Bible stories, and would encourage others to see what could be the feelings behind the Bible stories-you’ll not read the Bible the same way in the future.
This book was based on the authors interpretation of several bible verses. The book was well written and I enjoyed this interpretation, and learned a few things about Abraham and his relationship with Lot and Sarai. I would recommend reading this and the other books in the series. The variety of culture, customs, and the characteristics of the people were interesting. I would recommend reading the Genesis version first, and maybe after as well. It is a good reference that helps to explain Abraham's relationship with God, and also explains better the reasons for many of the things he did.
I appreciate the author's candor in his introduction making it clear his books are in fact fiction, but based on Scripture. Great story line and interesting approach to the early life of Abram. I have read all four on the Fall of Man series and have enjoyed each. Great job, looking forward to the continuing story.
So much devotion to God ,and He is worthy to be praised. The story is intriguing, and transports to a time when worship was intense and true. I would love to have the ability. I am in love with the author using the bible to give a desire to know and serve God our Father, and Jesus His son with all my heart , strength, and mind.
This book was an excellent telling of the story of Abram and Sarai and Lot and the years before the promise of a child given to them by God , Himself. I really enjoyed reading it.
Excellent book novel of “what if” scenario about Abram, Sarai, his beautiful half sister and wife, and Lot, his nephew and what their daily lives might have been like. It ends in Egypt and Sarai’s marriage to Pharaoh Djoser. Very interesting read.
Reading fictional Bible based books has helped give me a better understanding of the Bible. Mr. McPherson does a good job bringing the characters to life.
Excellent job of presenting the bible scriptures into a narrative novel . Really enjoyed McPherson' s work and looking forward to reading more of his work.
I like this book and the fictional account of Abram and his struggles that could’ve happened. Out the entire series this is probably my favorite so far!
