An old-fashioned rancher and a free-spirited tattoo artist? We're fire and ice. And so much steam.
The last time I gave my heart to someone, it went wrong. Apocalyptically wrong. When a devastating loss shatters my heart, I resolve to keep love at arm's length. A simple hookup? Sure. A woman has needs. But love? Not an option.
Months after a deadly flu pandemic burns through the world, sexy ex-rodeo star Bear Rasmussen gallops into my life. Romance is out of the question. But try telling that to a stubborn cowboy who's done sowing his oats and determined to settle down.
With a brutal, wannabe dictator scheming to seize control of the Pacific Northwest, war looms. Posing as members of a notorious motorcycle club, Bear and I go on a dangerous undercover mission hoping to turn the tide of the impending conflict. The more time I spend with Bear, the more my resolve wavers. Something about the strong, protective man threatens to send my walls crashing down.
The world is in chaos. There's danger at every turn. Do I dare risk my heart too?
Don’t miss an exciting, thrilling, and dangerous moment of the World Fallen series.
I’m loving this series and I enjoyed this book but… It wasn’t my favourite and I’m not really sure why. Which I know isn’t particularly helpful. I liked all the major players and the way the story moved forward. It’s building up to war and I can’t wait.
That said I did have a little trouble with ‘just call me Uncle Bobby everyone does’. His kind uncle persona and then his eye for an eye rules took some wrapping my head round. But I wasn’t the only one.
So now I’m left waiting for and looking forward to the next book.
I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by the publisher and NetGalley.
I'm going to be frank and say that in the midst of a pandemic a series charting the devastating effects of something similar shouldn't be so entertaining but boy has this author delivered ! What started out as a few people struggling just to survive without everything we take for granted has transformed into a believable action fuelled series chartered by the characters who not only have survived but are learning to thrive. I guess everyone reading this has a favourite character (Ripper anyone ?) and this time it's rancher Bear who surprises as he begins to woo the feisty, tattooed Nyx. She definitely has secrets and genuine reasons to keep him at a distance but Bear is a cowboy with tenacity and clearly a plan ! Its just to bad that they are undercover trying to find a weapons cache whilst Nyx is pretending to be Rippers main squeeze ! What could possibly go wrong ? Yep you've guessed it this passionate couple just can't quite keep their eyes or indeed hands off each other and that will definitely give the game away or will it ? I was quite surprised by Bear but obviously won't spoil his surprise. Nyx I could understand and had a fair inkling of roughly what might have shaped her. The best thing though is the overall journey of these characters as they go from just forming alliance's and friendships to by the time this story ends they have become a true family. Yes its a series about adversity and overcoming danger but it's full of excitement, heart and most of all hope. This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Cataclysm by Susanna Strom is book four, Bear’s story, in her World Fallen series.
Forming a lasting relationship is going to be difficult for Bear and Nyx, because Bear wants something real, but Nyx only wants a lay.
This installment of Susanna Strom’s World Fallen series maintains the series continuity and reads well as a standalone. The story is again revealed through the alternating viewpoints of the major characters, now including the bad guys, with appropriate chapter headers in order to avoid confusing the reader. The action and details are not quite as drawn out this time, which makes for a fresher read. I found the plot especially compelling. The characters, new and old, are well-rounded with complete backstories. Cataclysm is a 4 out of 5 star read that I recommend to all readers of apocalyptic sci-fi thrillers, especially with romance.
My thanks to Independent Publishers Group, Cougar Creek Publishing LLC, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
We are back with all our favorite people of the apocalypse and I couldn’t be happier. Picking up where we left them off in BEDLAM, we find that war with Allsop’s men is still eminent. Allsop is a man that must be stopped and in order to do so they must join forces with a neighboring group of survivors.
I absolutely loved Bear in the previous books and was so excited to hear that he was getting his own story along with Nyx. While on the outside they seem like an unlikely couple, these two were actually made for one another. Nyx just needed to overcome her stubborn heart. Or so we think. Her heart holds a secret so heartbreaking, that you can’t fault her for her way of existing.
As the series progresses, we meet new people and hopefully new alliances. Trust is not something easily given in this new world, so until they can, it’s every man for themselves. But I like to believe that they are on the right path with the right people to end Allsop and his tyrannical reign he has over the pacific northwest.
Guys, this book was amazing and absolutely consuming. It had me on the edge of my seat at so many times, that my nails are non existent anymore. I can’t wait to see what happens next with war looming and for it to be through Finn’s eyes, no less!! 5 Stars!!
I’ll be honest and say that I wasn’t expecting another book in this series until I got to near the end of the third book and realised that the plot wasn’t going to be wrapped up! I was happy about this because I wanted more books lol! I patiently waited for this book to release, grabbed a copy as soon as it did, and read it as soon as I could! After reading, I can say that the plot was continued on brilliantly from the last book and it did keep me wanting to read on and find out how everything was going to progress! There was also plenty of romance in the plot, but I would have liked the characters to have spent more time together! I mean, they couldn’t because of certain circumstances and there were enough seriously steamy scenes! There was also a lot of action in the plot and it moved the plot on and made me enjoy it more! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Nyx was the main female character, and she was an intriguing character that I wanted to know more about! I loved Nyx in this book! She could look after herself and she was strong character! I felt like Nyx opened up more near the end of this book and I would have loved to have seen this side to her sooner because it explained a lot! Bear was the main male character and love interest of Nyx! Bear was a complete cowboy in the other books in this series, but I got to see a different side to him in this book! He was fierce when he needed to be, especially when it came to protecting his home and the people closest to him! Bear was also protective of Nyx and he wanted to keep her safe and out of harms way! I loved that this book was written from both Nyx and Bear’s point of view! I was hoping that it was going to be before I started reading, even though the synopsis gives the impression that it’s only going to be written from the female character’s point of view! It helped me connect more with both characters and see how they really felt about each other! It allowed for a few more things to happen in the plot as well! There were also a few chapters written from secondary characters point of views too, which added to the book! I thought that this book was going to be the final book in this series, but there is going to be another book! I’m hoping that it’s going to release this year, but I can’t find any information on it yet! I am excited about who the main male character is going to be and I can guess who his love interest is going to be! I can't wait for the book to release and I'll definitely be reading it as soon as it does! The cover for this book is also absolutely perfect for it! I love how well it suits the other covers in the series and it would definitely draw me to the book! The cover model is also the perfect Bear!
Cataclysm is Bear and Nyx’s exciting story and after Kyle’s adventures in Bedlam we find ourselves (yes I am a part of this story as much as the characters) back at the safe heaven known as Valhalla Ranch. We meet up with some familiar faces and get to explore a bit more of Oregon on this ride.
Ripper, Bear and Nyx go undercover as MC members and Nyx pretends to be with Ripper and well that just doesn’t work for Bear. Bear is an alpha cowboy with a loving heart, and he wants Nyx. Nyx on the other hand has had a difficult past with love and isn’t ready for more; but all that changes with the action and excitement of this story.
Without spoilers, this story is packed with action, violence, determination, smart thinking, romance, twists, turns and romance. I found myself once again addicted to the story, turning the pages as fast as I could and wanting more all while being completely satisfied with what happened. The author allows the reader to become a member of this adventure all while being safely tucked away at home and I love how she incorporates familiar and favorite characters into each story. While the romance may be all about Bear and Nyx, the entire story is once again about this new family that has been created at Valhalla Ranch.
Among other actions within this story there is a strife that breaks out as the bad guys come to take over Valhalla Ranch. Familiar faces and supportive neighbors all band together to stop a violent and dangers man (and his legion) from taking over the Ranch. Allsop and his men are not ones to give up or take things in stride and they want what our beloved characters have fought and bound together to create, and boy is this book tension filled! I loved the “Good Guys” verses “The Bad Guys” feeling of this fight, it was gritty and had my heart beating fast.
This story is a mix of action, protection, romance, survival, hope and so much more. Once again Cataclysm is another hit in this series and became addicted once again to the characters their lives and the hope for their HEA’s. This entire series is wonderfully written and extremely realistic. Five amazing stars.
This series seriously always feels almost a little to close to reality for comfort. After a world-wide (we assume) pandemic has killed off most of the population - things are getting more and more complicated as people start moving beyond just surviving into rebuilding the world. Nyx and Bear are both part of a group of people who have been sheltering and working together at Bear's family ranch - Valhalla. They've been attracted to each other from the beginning - but Nyx doesn't feel ready for a relationship. Bear - on the other hand only wants a serious relationship with Nyx. So when they start out on a mission to work with the good guys to stop the very gross and not so good group of men trying to take over - things get complicated.
This series does just keep getting better and more interesting. I can't wait to see where it goes - and learn more about the other characters we've met. Bear and Nyx are both awesome characters - and have a lot of baggage and background to work through before they can be together for real.
Overall - I loved how this series doesn't leave all the characters pre-pandemic lives at the door. They are all still dealing with grief and pain of the losses they've been through. And the background of the whole series is figuring out how to live again - but without any of the conveniences we have in our lives.
I definitely recommend this book and the series as a whole.
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
When you need a distraction from the doom and gloom of a pandemic, immerse yourself in the dystopian aftermath of another illness, LOL.
We're back at Valhalla as our little community of survivors and allies are getting on with life. But danger isn't far away and before they know it they are up to their necks in danger again. Allsop is still on the loose and he's making allies - they really do not need him to get more powerful!
Bear is just on the right side of possessive - he's not about to take the crumbs that Nyx is offering - he wants the whole cake. His reactions when Nyx has to go undercover with him and Ripper is great. Nyx is a brilliant blend of fiesty/flighty and scared. She'll brave anything pretty much, as long as it's on her terms and her heart isn't involved.
Ripper is still my fave, even though he is a former MC member (something I don't actually like reading) but he just gets under the skin. I loved being able to see the other couples and supporting characters and meeting new ones. There are a couple of new entanglements hinted at.
A wonderful addition to the story and can't wait to find out what happens next!
Cataclysm by Susanna Strom Publisher: Cougar Creek Publishing LLC Genre: Mystery & Thrillers, Romance, Sci Fi & Fantasy Publication Date: January 18, 2022
Cataclysm is the fourth book in the World Fallen series by Susanna Strom. It can be read as a standalone novel, but the previous books are so good that they are worth reading!!!
Cataclysm is so good! I could not put it down! This book was a fast read and was so captivating! It is fast paced and filled with so much action. I really enjoy the characters and their interactions. I really loved the group dynamic. Also, the romance is hot and steamy (NSFW). The story is laid out really well and filled with twists and turns and so much suspense and excitement!
Set in a post-pandemic world, our heroes and heroines are facing what happens in the resulting power struggle. I love the characters in this book and have enjoyed watching them grow as they deal with the constant crisis around them.
I didn't want this book to end! It was so good that I couldn't put it down! As much as I wanted to know how things would work out, I didn't want to reach the end! I can't wait to see what happens next!
I definitely recommend this book (& the whole series) if you enjoy apocalyptic/dystopian romances!
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Bear is many things. A cowboy, a brother, a friend. Loyal to a fault and when he sets his mind on something he is as determined as they come. And set his sights on something he has. Nyx fascinates him. She intrigues him. The feelings he has for her are beyond those of a fling. Which is exactly why he will wait her out. But their world is still far from safe and the woman has decided she will go on their latest mission as well. Its a dangerous mission that will put them all at risk if their not careful. Nyx is a woman that is not affraid of much, but putting her heart on the line agains terrifies her. Can she let him in, or will she loose him before they even begin? The mission is all she should be thinking about, but Bear consumes her every thought. How will they make it back home alive? An exciting new story that follows the group as they navigate war with Allsop and his plans to rule the new world .
I have loved this entire series so far ever since meeting Ripper and Kenzie in Pandemonium. In each book the events of the pandemic become even more intense. Each book is so much more than the romance! In this book, rumors of a secret stash of weapons send Finn, Ripper, and Bear undercover as members of an outlaw motorcycle group with Nyx acting as Ripper's woman. Their mission is to find and steal the weapons before Banyon joins Allsop, the man attempting to become dictator in the pacific northwest in the absence of a working government. I can't wait to find out what happens next with war looming and Finn and Georgia working closer together. I received a complimentary advance reader copy of this book. The views and opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.
I have really enjoyed all of this series, and Cataclysm did not disappoint. It seems odd to me that I would love a series about a deadly pandemic while we are living through a deadly pandemic, but somehow it really works. I absolutely love the characters in this series. There really isn't a weak one among them in my opinion. They all have depth and an interesting background that keeps me coming back for more as each new book is released. I can't wait for each character to get their own time to shine. I also really love that each book has fit really well together, is leading up to something bigger, but still has managed to not be just a cookie cutter repeat of the same storyline over and over. I will absolutely devour anything that Susanna Strom writes and can't wait for the next one.
I really liked this couple. Bear and Nyx. They were total opposites. Bear was a strait laced cowboy. Nyx was a tattoo artist that just wanted a little bit of fun. She wanted to just have a one night stand with Bear, but that’s not what he wanted. I liked that he told her flat out that he was over one night stands. He wanted more with her.
Safety Safe. No ow/om drama. Neither virgins. They were both experienced. Again, they go undercover and Nyx pretends to be rippers girlfriend because Kenzie couldn’t go on the mission. Nothing happens. They don’t kiss or nothing. Ripper sleeps in the floor. He would not share a bed with her. I love a loyal man. 😍 the reason she wasn’t bears pretend girlfriend is because she was trying to ignore her feelings for him.
3.75 stars Despite the four stars, I had little to no interest in Bear & Nyx’s love story. All that mattered to me was the mission that they were on. I did have several peeves at how some things were handled in this book. The penultimate one being the overly convenient timing of the team’s return to Valhalla. Expounding on that: why teach these b*tches how to shoot if when the time came for them to defend themselves, they failed to even lift their guns? Sunny & Kenzie had the perfect opportunity to take Jonesy out in the attic scene, yet they didn’t. Obviously, the author had future plans for Jonesy.
The fifth book, Requiem, is Finn & Georgia’s story, (available on KU), which I have no interest in. The only reason I’ll read it, is that the battle between Allsop & Havoc, is yet unresolved. Also, I’m hoping that poor Sahdev gets to find a mate.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Cougar Creek Publishing LLC for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the 4th book in a series, but reads well as a stand alone. Admittedly, you have to catch up, the only thing that's difficult is that there are a lot of characters to get to know. This is the story of Bear and Nyx. They are an interesting couple with lots of baggage. This is a post pandemic and the world is completely different. Truly interesting read. 4 stars This is a romance, fantasy/Sci Fi/ and a mystery.
Cataclysm is another thrill ride addition to the World Fallen series! I loved getting to know Bear and Nyx's story, along with all the characters I already adore in this world. There is never a dull moment in a Susanna Strom book. She hits hard with the action, the danger, the romance, and the steam every time, with Cataclysm being no exception. Eagerly anticipating the next one!
Thank you to NetGalley and Cougar Creek Publishing LLC for access to this arc.
I love this serie. It keeps getting better and better! This time it's about Bear and Nyx. This dystopian romance has it all, just what I love to read about.
Cataclysm is the fourth book in the World Fallen series. It can be read as a standalone novel but you will enjoy it more if you read the first 3 too!
*~*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.*~*
The book is a good, and enjoyable romantic suspense read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry. The story hits hard with the danger, the action, romance, and with steam. The story is another thrill ride addition to the World Fallen series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This one was loaded with twists and turns to keep you a little anxious for all of our heroes, heroines and the people they call family. The steamy romance, realistic characters, and the challenges they face makes this very enjoyable read. I highly recommend this series with no reservations. Bravo Ms. Strom!
A very realistic story if the world order ended. People would be tested, good and evil would be tested. But some things will survive like love, friendship, loyalty. These characters will stay with you. Available in Kindle Unlimited but I purchased them to keep for future rereads.
Ahhhh, my heart, this series is FANTASTIC!!! I cannot wait for the next book, while some crazy AF things have gone down already, I know things are gonna hit the fan. Love this book and series!
I love a rugged take charge cowboy. And that's exactly what Bear is. Nyx compliments his personality with her sass and wit. Absolutely loved them together and the action this story gave kept me on the edge of my seat.
This is probably my least favorite in the series so far. I didn't find the story very interesting and I didn't really feel Bear and Nyx as a couple. I'm looking forward to Finn and Georgia's story next.
You must read this serious. These books are exciting and a quick read. Things happen fast. People are warm and beautiful. Makes you wish you had a biker or a cowboy in your life. And what a life they have.
