USA Today bestselling author R. A. Steffan lives in New Mexico, where the sunsets paint the mountains purple, and roadrunners roam the desert endlessly in search of their coyote victims. When she’s not busy writing stories about people loving each other in all sorts of different and interesting ways, she can be found taking care of her small menagerie of critters.

A rebel to the core, she is currently sticking it to the man by illegally harvesting graywater from the kitchen and bathroom sinks to water trees outside. This fearless disregard for societal norms extends to her writing, as well. There, you will find polyamory along with straight, gay, bisexual, and non-gender conforming love of all flavors. You will also find families of choice, profound friendships, adventure, danger, and good triumphing over evil.

That, and sex. Lots of sex. Most of which is not the vanilla variety.

It's here it's here!! I feel like jumping around all excited! Hahaha
Ever since I read the first book in The Last Vampire: Complete Series, Books 1-6 I have wanted Nigellus to have a book.
So when I learned that he would indeed get one, I was over the moon!
This demon is just a chef's kiss. I absolutely love him. And Edward...my dear dear Edward how I adore him.

We have met Neveah a good while ago from the other books, and I suspected straight away that she was not all she seemed. I'm so happy to see I was right! Haha.

This book is the first book of a duet, and it does end on a very big cliffhanger. However, we don't have to wait too long, as the 2nd book is scheduled to release in May.

I was also very happy to once again see Zorah and Rans - I have missed them! :D
And it also looks like we might be meeting up for everyone from the other books, as our great protagonist seems to want to start another huge war.

I can't wait for the 2nd book, I suspect we will be getting even more action there and R.A. Steffan writes action scenes really well. :D

First off, about the audiobook. The narration is pretty bad which I find baffling because the narrator seems to know what she is doing. She is quite adept at narrating in multiple distinct voices which are clearly recognizable and fitting to the characters, but two of the narration voices she chose are horrible. Her third-person narration voice sounds too high and forced, a bit like a bad impression of a baby voice. But even worse is her voice for the MC. It would be a perfectly fine voice for a palm-sized glittering fairy or a talking hamster, it's incredibly high and squeaky to the point that her voice regularly cracks. I find it incredibly distracting especially because over 90% are spoken in either of the two uncomfortably high and forced voices. It's a real shame because the natural narration voice of the narrator is very pleasant but she only uses it when reading the chapter numbers. Her other (mostly but not exclusively male) voices are also very good and pleasant to listen to.

Now to the actual review.
At its heart, this is a very typical good FMC and demon male love interest who is a bit of a patronizing asshole but also very protective and mysterious. You probably know the type. The two don't end up in a mushy relationship early on as initially suggested but actually assume somewhat antagonistic roles towards each other.
The world-building around the central romance, while being built from many common tropes, was quite unique and interesting in the way the parts were assembled and presented.
Sadly this is not actually a complete book. It just abruptly ends halfway to the plot climax somewhere. It's not even a real cliffhanger. It's more like the book was too long so someone just cut it in half at some point.
Together with the painful audiobook narration I don't feel compelled to get the second book despite the story being completely open-ended at this point.

3 of 5 for this book.

I will wait to write a review at the end of this series. As with the other series in this universe, the story arc is series spanning and doesn't resolve at the end of a single book.

I will say that so far I'm disappointed with how weak Nigellus is being portrayed (weak and horny, no pun intended). It seems a bit ret-conned from other novels in this universe.

Also, why no Len and Albigard? They're the best things about this universe.

Took a few chapters to get into the book and world.
The characters have grown on me, and the ease the angel has with just being her is nice. The demon and his graff hard personality are the norm. And the friends/ servants who are family to the demon and bring some light fun and sass to some events.

There is spice and man was it hot smutty moment. But just one full spicy part, maybe more in the other books...I hope!
Feels like a good book, I just can't put words to it like I want to.

An exciting opening to this spin off from The Last Vampire series. If you've read that and Forsaken Fae series you will be familiar with Nigellus, the 6th member of the Demon Council. This book brings another character, Neveah the last remaining of her kind on earth and they have crossed paths before, however everything is not as it seems.
Any fan of PNR will enjoy the books in this paranormal world and this is no exception.

My review is written voluntarily after listening to the audio version of this book.

If you have read or listened to The Last Vampire Series you will already be familiar with most of the characters in this book. If however, you have not then you will still be able to enjoy this new series as the author does tell us everything we need to know.

Nigellus is an immortal demon, his charter has always intrigued me because although he has a soul bond with Edward, his elderly human servant and two vampires, Ransley and Zorah he does not abuse it, they are allowed to have free will, well mostly and he treats them well, helping them when he can. Don't get me wrong, they are not his friends but deep down there is mutual hard-earned respect and begrudging trust between them all, although that trust has been sorely tested recently.

But this book is the start of Nigellus' story, it's dark in places, especially the beginning so be aware. I'm trying to write a non-spoiler review and not give too much away, what I will say is that in this book I think Nigellus has finally met his match in Shemasiel aka Neveah Lane, an Angel who found herself trapped alone on Earth when the gates between Heaven and the other Realms were closed during the long-ago war between the Demons and the Fae.

Neveah passes her time on earth working as an investigative reporter and whilst in this guise, she's first on the scene of a mysterious death which looks to be supernatural, a death which Nigellus, Hell's Spymaster is also investigating. it quickly becomes apparent that more is at stake than the death of a single woman.
But the book has humour too Edward is a delight as always, Neveah is an interesting and unpredictable character who is definitely a match for Nigellus.

To find the answers Nigellus will need the help of Rans, Zorah and Edward but whilst he's working one angle Neveah is working another - they'd be much better together but can an Angel and a Demon forge an alliance?

This one does end on a cliffhanger, with the story continuing in the next book and although I hate cliffhangers I always make an exception for this author, I've been here from book one of The Last Vampire World when Rans first met Zorah and loved every minute of all fourteen books. Please write faster Ms Steffan!

The narration of this book, the whole series in fact, by Gwendolyn Druyor is excellent and as you will find if you decide to listen that she has made these fascinating characters, so well drawn by the author, her own bringing them to life and making them seem so real.

Demon and angels

This is the first book with the demons story and I guess journey to love.
I had a problem with the fae mads left her body to go in a human body to break her demon bond.but but but when you make a deal with a demon you give a little of your soul, so if she leaves her fae body and blood (which makes you want to ask more questions is her power in her soul or her body?) Doesn't that mean the soul bond goes with the soul? So she hasn't broken the bond (that's why demon heart in salt) but they was talking like she has.I'm glad we got a Angel in this one.

A bit disappointing in that I’d hoped it would delve into Nigellus’ history but it picked up in the present day. The angel Neveah was a nice addition. I’m wondering how in the hell Mab could have been missing for hundreds of years without the Fae court noticing.

I love Edward. I could read at least one book about him.

Nice to see Zorah and Ransley.

This was a really good book. It was a little slow at the start I thought no this is just a mystery with Demons, it got so much better by the third chapter. I loved the characters they were well written and rounded. The world is amazing and includes the Fae an Angel and Demons. Enjoy

just keep getting better!

R. A. Has once again outdone herself! Nigellus’ world is thrown wide open and an entirely new cast of characters burst onto the scene with even more intrigue and context than ever before.

Angels and Demons

This was so much more than I expected. Nigellus has been a favourite from the start and this story didn’t disappoint. I’m desperate to know more of the story and find out if Nevaeh can back up her harsh words.

Finally reading this since the omnibus was released !!!
Loved it a lot. I liked the story and how it was told; loved each of the characters (especially getting to have more Edward page-time!!! Let's go Edward!!!) and overall this book was almost a salve to come back to rather than starting a new series. There's something extremely comforting about a huge world with many books attached, reading a new series within it feels like coming home to your favorite meal.
Absolutely love Neveah probably the first girl in this entire world that I don't think is annoying in some form or fashion.
Good book cannot wait to begin the rest of the series.

I‘m not sure what to make of this book. It annoys me to no end that it’s a 200 page thing. Again. Why not write a book and publish it when it’s finished? What’s the point of dividing it into several parts that can’t be read individually anyway? I kind of liked the story, but it’s really lacking after Forsaken Fae and I don’t think I can give more than three stars here, at least not until it’s actually finished. And those are mostly because I know and like the characters and the universe from the previous series.
