The Northern Isles are little known, hidden by magic, and populated by Dragons. When your ex husband is a tool , your life in the doldrums and your offered a cool job as the nanny of a Prince, your bound to say yes.
Our H & h have such an intense chemistry it’s mind blowing , these two develop a beautiful and passionate relationship that’s starts off a little rocky.
Filled with tense moments and passionate clinches, as well as some beautiful alpha male dragons, Alicia has written another wonderful series starter that will have you dying for more, and soon.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
Love the start of this spinoff. Rorik and Poppy are so damn loveable. They are afraid they will fail in their duties if they give in to their attraction. It's all worth it in the end
A truly remarkable story of heartache, betrayal and love. I couldn't put this book down. Can't wait to read the rest of the series. Alicia is definitely my favourite author.
Know this now - if you haven't read the author's Blackstone series, go read it first. The dragon guard series is a spinoff series. You can read it as a stand alone like I did but as you progress you will get a lot of spoilers for the original series. I also read the entire guard series before writing any reviews so my reference points are from the complete series. My take on this entire series is "not really bad but not good either." Unfortunately, the majority of the books is just vague melodramatic fluffle surrounding little bits of love story; a lot of running around and hints of action without much action on page. Rorik and Poppy aren't my favorite couple but this book is the best in the series, and their characters as separate entities are the best of the bunch in some ways. (Thoralf is a strong contender for favorite character too). Unfortunately, the author absolutely abuses and overuses the miscommunication trope in this entire series, and this book is the worst as far as lacking communication in the relationship building. Rorik is a really good MMC in most ways though. Poppy is a bit of a carpet, willing to let everyone walk over her, but a great mum character. The vague doom dropping starts pretty heavy right off the bat in this book and continues for the entire series. I know the antagonist resolution and I still can't figure out the whys behind it all. It's teaspoon deep story writing really. If you're jumping in for mindless low thought entertainment, ehh you might be ok. Overall the series failed to capture my attention most of the time and did not give me true reading satisfaction. I don't hate it but would have stopped probably after book 2 if I had anything better on my tbr.
Dragon Guard Warrior is the first book in the Dragon Guard of the Northern Isles. It does tie into the Blackstone Dragons, but can be read as a stand alone. Poppy has accepted a new job as a nanny for the Royal dragon prince of the Northern Isles, and she needs this job, not a distraction in the Captain of the Dragon Guard. While Rorik wants to woo his mate, he also has to stay true to his duties. Will these fated mates overcome their hang ups, or has fate missed the mark with this couple?
Oh wow! I have been wanting to pick up this book for a while now, and I really fell for Poppy and Rorik! I loved how badly they both wanted each other, yet both felt like they needed to stay away for different reasons. I do feel like a lot could have been figured out if they had only sat down and had a solid conversation about where they wanted their relationship to go, but where would the fun in that be, haha! Poppy was a great character because she had to be so strong for her child, which I can totally relate to. I liked that once she made a decision, though, she stuck with it, and tried everything to make it work. Rorik was such a strong warrior, so it was fun to see him connect with his dragon and examine some of his deeper emotions. While he was clueless with relationships, I liked that he tried his hardest to please his mate and help Poppy and her son feel most comfortable. There was a steamy connection between Poppy and Rorik, but I liked how they went from adversaries to friends to so much more, with a few bumps and twists along their path. I liked this book and definitely look forward to reading more in this series!
A single mom getting her life back together When divorce and scandal leaves her life in ruins, Poppy Baxter has no choice but to take the first job she could get, even if it is as a nanny to a dragon prince in a faraway land. But this position meant a fresh start for her and her cheetah shifter son, so she must impress her royal employers and act like a professional at all times. However, the very sexy captain of the guard isn’t making it easy to act professionally, especially when just one smoldering look from him sends her libido into the stratosphere.
A reluctant leader trying to balance romance and duty Dragon guard captain Rorik has devoted his life to protecting his king, and has no time for anything else. But when he meets the new nanny to the crown prince, his dragon instantly recognizes her as his fated mate, and now his entire world is turned upside down. His job demands his complete devotion and attention, but he can’t ignore the deep-seated need to make Poppy his and form the bond that will fuse their souls together. Can he find a way to balance the demands of his position while trying to woo his mate or will he ultimately have to choose between duty and love?
The Dragon shifter romance and the storyline was brilliant which is why I found very hard to put down. I was sucked in from the very beginning and the characters were flawlessly put together. You could sense the sexual chemistry between Poppy and Rorik. Another great read by the wonderful Alicia Mongomery I love her books and I always find it very hard to put any of her books down.
Dragon Guard Warrior: Dragon Guard of the Northern Isles by Alicia Montgomery is an entertaining, exciting, sweet, sexy and steamy shifter romance story of Rorik and Poppy..Rorik is a Dragon guard captain, devoted his life to protecting his king, and has no time for anything else. untill Poppy,A single mom, divorce after an scandal leaves her life in ruins, She has no choice but to take the first job she could get, even if it is as a nanny to a dragon prince in a faraway land to get her life back together and her son..Its not easy to act professionally, because of a certain guard captain.. especially when just one look from him sends her libido into the sky..Can he find a way to balance the demands of his position while trying to woo his mate or will he ultimately have to choose between duty and love?
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving this review.
I really enjoyed this new series! It is a bit of a spin off from the Blackstone Dragons and Blackstone Ranger series and I love the little connection there. It is set in the same world but in a different location. I loved getting to see these two characters find the balance that they needed in order to find their path together. They both are trying to focus on their duties but the connection to each other drives them to distraction lol. I loved their interactions as they try and figure everything out together and work through what's going on. There was plenty to grab and hold my attention the entire way through. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and found it highly entertaining. This was a great start to this new series and I am very excited for more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I liked the book! It is a good start to the Dragon Guard series as far as the set up of the overarching storyline. I gave it a 3 star because the Hero and Heroine just didn’t seem made for each other. Also, the whiplash I got from Rorik’s abrupt 180° turns just wasn’t as believable for me as I wanted it to be and Poppy went from dislike to in love in the blink of an eye. The author doesn’t explore Rorik’s battle with his dragon as he was trying to stay away from Poppy and we only know Poppy has been up crying at night after the fact. We really don’t see what happens during these weeks as it’s just kind of skipped. I love Alicia Montgomery and all of her book series are my absolute favorites. This just didn’t feel this was up to her usual standard. I am looking forward to reading the next one.

First book in the spin-off series Dragon Guard of the Northern Isles and it is wonderful. We get to reacquaint with some characters from previous books and meet several new ones. Rorik is a dragon shifter and the captain of the dragon guard. He takes his job beyond seriously. He will let nothing stop him from protecting the royal family. Poppy is human and mother to young Wes who is a cheetah shifter. Her ex made some really stupid and bad decisions that affected them. But it seems fate may have stepped in and brought her to the Northern Isles. The story has quite a bit of humor. Some of the side characters make this story so perfect with the camaraderie of friends and family. Love the beginning of this series and can’t wait to see who will be the next to find their mate.
Loved reading about Poppy, Rorik and Wesley. I love starting a new book in a series, and although it based on the Dragon Guard, it has some of the old characters we have grown to love. I felt so sad for poppy, between her ex husband, his lies about what he is, his treatment of Wesley and her losing her job and then getting a new job. Still doesn't stop her ex from threatening her with getting full custody. I wanted to slap Rorik and get him to see what was in front of him with Poppy. Although an ambush nearly derailed everything. I can't wait for the next book and the new nanny\mole catcher (not the furry kind but the agent seeking a Spewer of secrets catcher)
First, I loved the Blackstone Mountain series! So this one tying in with some of those characters had me hooked from the start. Queen Sybil has definitely grown up and now has a son of her own. Poppy is a single mother with a 9 year old son, Wesley, trying to make it through a horrible experience. When she gets a job as the little Prince's nanny things are looking up. She meets the Captain of the Dragon Guard, Rorik, and things get exciting. It is funny to see Rorik get dating advice from a pair of Dragon Guard twins. But things are not just fun and games. On a royal tour, there is an attempt on the royal family. There is so much to look forward to I am ready for the next installment.
Meh. This was just pretty boring. The characters were boring, the story was boring, the drama was boring, and the sex was boring. It's just one of those books that you start forgetting as soon as you get through it 🤷♀️.
The hero is the captain of the Dragon Guard, and the heroine is the new nanny for the Prince. They both live and work in the castle together, and despite the hero knowing that Poppy is his fated mate the first time they meet, they spent most of the book avoiding each other for a myriad of stupid reasons. Of course they manage to get together at the end, but everything that happens along the way is very bland and uninteresting. I just didn't care much about the couple, and this just felt kind of cheeseball.
This is a spin-off series from the Blackstone series. It can be read as a standalone though because Queen Sybil is the only one from Blackstone. Poppy has a son named Wesley. Her ex husband is one huge jerk and has made life difficult for them. She gets a job offer as a nanny for Queen Sybil in the Northern Isles and accepts. Rorik first sees Poppy and knows she is his mate but the first meeting goes terribly wrong as does the next. Will he ever figure out this mate thing? He doesn't even know how to tell her. Then more problems arise and he pulls away. Will these two find their happy ever after? What about her son Wesley? Will he ever accept or trust Rorik?
This is my first trip into this world of Dragon Guard. I think I saw it's a spinoff series from Blackstone Rangers but I found it just find to read without knowing that series.
The FMC Poppy has gotten herself a new job as nanny for the royal dragon Prince of the Northern Isles. She has a son Wesley, who is also a shifter because she was previously married to a different type of shifter. When she arrives in the Northern Isles and meets the Rorik, Captain of the Dragon Guard she feels an instant connection but she tries to ignore that because she doesn't want any distraction from her new job. This is a fun, tiny bit mysterious, bits of romance adventure that I definitely want to continue.
I’m so happy we get to continue the Blackstone Saga. This book was great. I love Poppy. She is strong and loyal. She is a great mother and I love how she supports her son’s love of books. (Thank you for the shout out to some of my favorite books) Rorik is a strong, loyal and incredibly independent person. These two meet and it gets really interesting. I love how all the characters seem like real people, even the supporting ones. This book is a really fun read. It draws you in and kind of takes over your thoughts. It comes to life. Dragon Guard Warrior is like watching a TV program, only in your head.
I LOVE this 1at book in the Dragon Guard series! As I had posted on another site
'What A Freaking Excellent Way To Start A New Series! " Omg...I love Rorik's story. And Yes, I bought book2! You might want to read Blackstone She-Dragon first to prep before reading this book. It will be a great reference to go back to keep all names in place. I found I was doing this while reading this book also. I have actually have re-read this book 4 times because I love it so much! So, now I'm trying to wait patiently until May as that's when the 2nd book comes out. I wish it was now.
This was a different kind of shifter book but I enjoyed it
The characters were well written And easy to be liked By the reader. The book itself had many ups and downs Read it from start to finish in 1 night because I couldn't put it down. Characters each had a bit Characters each had a bit Characters each had a bit of insecurity But in the long run those were resolved. I like the description of how west when he got frighten I like the description of how west when he got I like the description of how west when he got frightened Shed his clothes and turned into a little frightened ball of fur. Which sounded so cute.
This was a sweet and sexy start to the Dragon Guard series. We get a awesome catch up with the royal family and some fun intros to the rest of the Dragon guard. Rorik and Poppy have a cute and amusing romance. At different points in the story the both have reasons they feel they just should not be together but they just can't keep their hands off each other. Wesley, Poppy's son was adorable and I hope he makes some appearances as the series goes on. I can't wait to see who gets trapped next! I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book
Borrowed From KINDLE UNLIMITED Title: Dragon Guard Warrior Series: Dragon Guard of the Northern Isles #1 Release Date: #AlreadyReleased Author: Alicia Montgomery Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Serial: Standalone, No Cliffhanger Genre: #PRN #DragonShifters #CheetahShifter ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ •••••••••••••• 💢 This is an exceptional new series. I just loved everything about it. Yep Phenomenal! I just hope book #2 is almost finished I just can’t wait!!!!
☄️ This review is my own opinion, this author is one that I love to read her books.
Poppy losses her job when everyone learns her exhusband is a shifter. She applies for a job as and is surprised when they want to hire her. They want her because her son is a shifter and the child she will be caring for is a shifter. She will be caring for the crown prince Queen Sybil's son. As soon as Rorik sees Poppy his dragon claims her but his human side tries to resist, his duty to the crown. Terrific story from Alicia with interesting characters and storyline.
This is Rorik and Poppy's story . Poppy is the new nanny after she along with her son has had to deal with a scandal so she is very thankful for the job and will do all she can to be the best nanny she can ! As long as she can keep her eyes and hand off the guard ! Roirk is all about serving and protecting his king and never had any thought that something might just draw his attention away from it . This is a well written and recommended story .
I was given this ARC and wanted to leave a review .
It was ok. The Main Characters where not strong unfortunately, but I love the Ideas of the Book and the Storyline.
The Main Characters came of as whiny and poor me. Unfortunately it just wasn't inspiring. You could see the Mail Characters where written by a women and they did not come over as Male.
But in all of that. the World Building was great and I Love the Ideas of the Book
I think If the Author would just Work on her Character building it word Def be Excellent.
It’s a good read, I really liked a lot at the beginning of this book, but it kind of slid down hill. I liked Poppy and her gutsy son Wes, found the beginning a fun and exciting read even when she was angry. But when he decided to turn his back on her after sleeping with her, ghosting her in a way that was beyond cruel, I really didn’t like him and his reasons were idiotic. Then when he finally pulls his head out (though only after a push from his King) she instantly forgives him, it was so fast I felt cheated. I don’t like push away for stupid reasons books.
This is book one of the dragon guard series. I enjoyed Poppy and Rorik’s story. They are so thoughtful and cute pretending not to notice each other but hoping that somehow they could get together. Poppy has been hired as the nanny of the prince. Rorik is the captain of the royal guard. They both don’t think they can be together due to their jobs, but as true mates, it is not possible to resist the pull and attraction. Wesley, Poppy’s son, takes the show in this story. There is a happy ending. Read On!
This is only the second series I've read by this author, but so far she's pretty good at consistency amongst her books. So I was surprised by this exchange between the two MCs "Have you never been out of the country?” He shook his head. “I’m afraid not.” Even if I hadn't read The Blackstone Rangers series, Rorik's inner monologing reminds us he's been to the US in Colorado. I'll give the author a pass tho since I'm used to a lot of authors being very inconsistent when writing a series or cross connecting characters
I didn’t think I’d like this new story as much as the Blackstone Dragon series but once again you’ve surprised me Ms. Montgomery. This first one with Poppy and Rorik was great! A true love story but what gave it all more meaning was dear, sweet Wesley. That little boy gave more depth to this story but Poppy could have be a widow, not a divorcée due to the idiot Robbie turned out to be. Anyways, This is just the first of this series and I’m excited to continue reading more about the Dragon Guard of the Northern Isles. Thank you for sharing. Blessings, J.
I have read all of Alicia’s shifter series’ and this one is equally as good. I loved the chemistry between Poppy and Rorik and the fatherly relationship that eventually developed with Wesley. The other characters in the book were fantastic and I can’t wait to see who’s next from the Dragon Guard to find their true mate! *fingers crossed that Gideon is next!*
Another fantastic story, and a great start to this series!
I'll read anything Alicia Montgomery writes. I love her way with dialogue, and how she sprinkles just enough tidbits from stories past - and future - to make things feel like one big party. But Poppy, Wes, and Rorik are such great characters I think I found another favorite in this author's stack. I'm looking forward to "seeing" more of the North Isles, and meeting more mates!
