PMBOK Guide is the go-to resource for project management practitioners. The project management profession has significantly evolved due to emerging technology, new approaches and rapid market changes. Reflecting this evolution, The Standard for Project Management enumerates 12 principles of project management and the PMBOK(R) Guide - Seventh Edition is structured around eight project performance domains.
This edition is designed to address practitioners' current and future needs and to help them be more proactive, innovative and nimble in enabling desired project outcomes.
This edition of the PMBOK Guide:
Reflects the full range of development approaches (predictive, adaptive, hybrid, etc.); Provides an entire section devoted to tailoring the development approach and processes; Includes an expanded list of models, methods, and artifacts; Focuses on not just delivering project outputs but also enabling outcomes; and Integrates with PMIstandards+(TM) for information and standards application content based on project type, development approach, and industry sector.
Purchased the book in preparation for taking the Project Managment Professional (PMP) exam through the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Pretty disappointed with the quality of the book as a whole. Not very informative and incredibly generalized. Would not be of much use as a standalone resource.
Core study guide for PMP (Project Management Professional) certification test. Much improved over previous versions with principles-based structure and separation for each Guide to PMBOK and Standard of Project Management. Use as both a reference and as cover-to-cover read for anyone who works on projects, not just those that lead them!
As a textbook, it's not particularly helpful. It covers the information contained in the PMP exam, certainly, but not necessarily in a way that would help you to pass the exam. It completely lacks in practice questions as well, which I feel is a major weakness.
This textbook is not written or organized well at all. It will not prepare you for the exam as a standalone resource. You are better off utilizing other study guides available on the internet and YouTube.
Quick review of the PMBOK as it had been probably 5-10 years since I looked at it. Definitely an essential resource for any professional project manager.
