Read this book as text book during my under graduation for "Corrosion" course. Fontana is the father of corrosion engineering. People had always idea about corrosion but this man alone made corrosion an important part of engineering and discussed detailed about it.
This book is mainly an academic one. But if anyone is interested to know more about corrosion then s/he must read it. There aren't much technical discussion for non-engineering background people. Very easy texts to understand easily. Must read for Metallurgical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineers.
Hands down best introductory book for corrosion concepts. More importantly it still serves as a great reference for foundational check even after using more advanced books like ASM handbook or other corrosion engineering tomes. The reason might be the the fact that all pioneers, fathers of a field have a very intuitive, easy way of explaining things as opposed to the followers later. Because they were early explorers they don’t jump to complexity and show how the contradictions on nature show up.
It won’t gets one to solve complex engineering problems which require advanced treatment but will serve curiosity, basics wonderfully well. A must have for corrosion engineers or anyone dealing with corrosion.
