Both sides need a spy. Both choose her. For a woman wanted for the murder of three English soldiers, disappearing into the Scottish Highlands holds a certain appeal. However, instead of finding respite and protection in the arms of her husband’s family, Elaina MacKinnon is met with a shocking revelation, absurd Scottish superstitions, and unexpected adversaries. Dragged into the lion’s den, Elaina finds herself once more caught between the English and the Scots, fighting to protect her flanks from her enemies, her family, and the mystical ideologies of the local Highlanders. Can Elaina protect herself and her family from unseen enemies, both old and new? Will she lose the tenuous grasp she has on her sanity or will the madness claim her soul?
Renee Gallant spent the biggest part of her childhood growing up in north Texas, hiding behind bushes or sitting in trees immersed in stories of mystery and adventure and scratching out her own Trixie Belden fan fiction.
But it was only after reaching middle age, having an empty nest, and being bitten by a creepy little eight-legged foe that she thought to pick up pen and paper once more and lose herself in a fictional world where anything was possible.
Unfortunately, no, she did not turn into Spiderman. Nor even The Tick, but instead became an advocate for auto-immune sufferers, a grandmother, and finally a published author. After a twenty-year hiatus where she was all things to all people, Renee Gallant switched her focus back to herself and her first love, words.

TITLE: A poorly received Bride faces new dangers with her in-laws.
SETTING: Scotland, at time of Jacobite rebellion. Elaina MacGregor, daughter of Thamas MacGregor, the last laird of the MacGregor clan, marries Laird Beinnmaree’s second son Calum and they return to Calum’s home to inform his parents.
When I jumped into this story, I had not realized it was the 3rd of a series of books dealing with our characters. But when the first description was made of Elaina, it was obvious there was a story behind the healing stitches on her neck, the bruises on her face and the hair cut to the shoulders in this lady of the Middle Ages! With my interest thus roused, I flew through the story! This book does stand on it’s own. That being said, I intend to read the prior 2 books to find out how Elaina got her throat cut! Due to mature content, recommended for mature readers.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Waiting for the next one..I have enjoyed this series very much and I believe you will as well. The characters are vivid..there is conflict, deceit, mystery, and love in every book. What more can you want.
