As Vittorio’s empire enacts its bloody reign, the Uaine now behind him after a stunning betrayal, a reunited Sonya and Sebastian must embark on a journey to distant lands to amend past wrongs—and find unlikely allies along the way.

In far Raiz, Jorge has his hands full enough with the devastation the Empire left behind. But the battle isn’t over, and the sovereignty of his nation will depend on his ability to band together the ancient houses—and recruiting a figure straight out of legend.

Galina, now Queen of Izmoroz, rules her land with an iron fist in a velvet glove. But heavy is the crown, and enemies lie in wait both within and without her dominion. To realize her vision for a free Izmoroz at last, she’ll have to fight with much more than politics.

This is the finale to the Goddess of War trilogy. This book is on a similar level to the second book. You will likely enjoy this book as much as you enjoyed that one.

The characters and worldbuilding continue to be fine, but not particularly remarkable. Yet despite my criticisms of this trilogy, I did see it through. The ending fit the story, but was a little underwhelming for my tastes. I think you're satisfaction with this final book will largely depend on your attachment to the characters and their wellbeing.

If you're interested in this series, you will want to start back at the beginning with The Ranger Of Marzanna.

Disclaimer I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

The Wizard of Eventide is the third and final book in Jon Skovron’s epic fantasy series, The Goddess of War. I found it on par with the first book, and throughout the series I was never fully drawn into the story. The characters remained the same and I still saw little growth in their arcs. There were many very strange things that occurred in this book. They were unique, unexpected, and hard to describe, but overall, they were very odd. Unfortunately, I can’t really get into them as it would venture too much into spoilers.
At the end of The Queen of Izmoroz, we know several important things have happened. Sonya and Sebastian have reunited and are fighting against the Imperial Empire. Galina, having ousted the northern clans, is now Queen of Izmoroz. Through several turn of events, Franko Vittorio is now in control of the Empire, and he is quite unstable. Everything that has come to pass is building up to a war with the Empire. Izmoroz wants its freedom, and Raiz wants to be sure to remain free. It is Sonya and Sebastian that are now travelling to look for allies, while Izmoroz and Raiz prepare for war.
Sonya has given up more of her humanity to the Lady of Marzanna, and Sebastian has aged well beyond his years. The series seems to take place over a fairly short amount of time. We meet Sebastian when he is seventeen in the Ranger of Marzanna. In the Wizard of Eventide, by the end, he is about eighteen, though he looks very old and feels it as well. As I mentioned, I do like magic systems where the user cannot wield it limitlessly. They need to rest, recharge, or some other way to restore themselves. This magic was a heavy price to pay, and too high a price for me to find enjoyable. It didn’t seem to make sense that one would want to be a wizard when the consequences are that one ages so quickly, and feels the effects of it as well.
The elements that worked for me were the battle scenes. I think Mr. Skovron does write them well. There were also quite a number of surprises that I didn’t see coming. Throughout the series, I did like how the narrative was structured. It was all told in the third person narrative by several of the main characters, most notably Sonya, Sebastian, Irina, Galina, and Jorge. It wasn’t confusing and Mr. Skovron writes the story well.
The Wizard of Eventide, and the Goddess of War series, is a good entry into the fantasy genre. My own opinion is that some elements worked, while others did not. The ones that didn’t gave me trouble to be fully immersed in the story. However, I will still recommend it because there I know there are readers who will love it and enjoy to oddities at the end of this particular book.

Thank you to Orbit Books and Netgalley for the complementary eBook and physical ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

*stands and gives a 12 minute standing ovation* Now THAT'S how you finish off a series! Oh my god I had such a blast reading this final installment of the Goddess War Trilogy. I loved how each book in the series was better than the last, all setting up such a grand and comprehensive world with multiple countries, factions, fleshed out characters, and magic systems; all leading to a phenomenal finale.

I was up until 2am to finish The Wizard of Eventide because I could not put it down! I was hooked! The battles, the magic, the plots within plots, the tactics, all of it was just enthralling. And then for everything to come full circle??? I won't say more because I refuse to spoil the perfect ending. But wow did it blow my freaking mind!

And the continued character development was perfection. It really made the story feel more emotional, especially in the end. Furthermore I loved that near the end I was on the edge of my seat unable to predict what would happen next. Kelley J. Skovron wove such a fantastic epic fantasy, and I couldn't be more thankful to them. Side note, as a Latinx reader, I really appreciated and loved the Latinx representation throughout the whole series, with the beautiful and bad ass Raizian's.

Being on this journey with Sonya, Sebastian and Jorge has been such a privilege and honor that I'll never forget. These three will always hold a special place in my heart, and quite honestly this book has solidified this series a spot in my favorite fantasy series category.

This review is based on an ARC ebook received for free from NetGalley. I am not being paid to review this book and what I write here is my own opinion. My rating scale is below.

Wrapping up a trilogy is a large, difficult task. Doing so in a way that will satisfy readers and the author even more so. For me, The Wizard of Eventide hit the mark, but it was only upon reading the very end that I would have pronounced myself “satisfied.” Previously, I might have said that I was…expectant.

As I read I struggled to remember why I’m supposed to care about this revolution in Raíz. Kante was briefly interesting and Izmoroz ended up being mildly horrifying, but Raíz is just dull. The interludes with Marzanna were just as bad though. Throughout this book, it was difficult to find a single character journey to really take an interest in except for what seemed to be an allusion in the prologue to Skovron’s other trilogy, which I enjoyed rather a lot. Perhaps Irina, whose strength of character and purpose was admirable throughout the trilogy, even when she was at odds with the characters who were ostensibly the heroes.

Overall, it is a satisfying conclusion that makes up for a mostly forgettable second book, but doesn’t quite live up to the first book. If the cover art weren’t so good, I’m not sure I’d bother keeping them, but I’m glad to have read them.

Amazing Characters, Fun Story, Great tie in to Hope and Red

Really enjoyed the characters. Just like Hope and Red, Skovron writes such amazing characters, even the minor ones are enjoyable. Amazing world building with the various nations. Had no idea where the story was going to end up, Skovron keeps you on your toes. Had an inkling in book 2 with mention of Jackal Lords that there’d be some tie in to the first trilogy, and loved how it ended. Hope we’ll get more in this world in the future. Hope and Red remains my favorite fantasy trilogy all these years later (if you haven’t read it, do so, it’s epic), and while this wasnt a sequel, the tie in was fun! it was great coming back to this land. I will continue reading anything the author writes in this world, and hope to see more in the future!

This story definitely got better throughout each book. In my opinion Skovron did an amazing job on the character development and world building. I’ll admit when I first started reading the first books I said that I was not going to continue with the series. I thought that some of the characters were not written well but as I said before they got better. Obviously it ended up being the total opposite. When the third book released I quickly went to Barnes and noble and day after. The trilogy was a great adventure!!!

Very good trilogy. clever. multiple characters, countries, beliefs. all fit together in the end.

the complexity for me, too time from the main character and we only saw her in snippets. until the end.

I caught some of the references to their other trilogy, but i dont have time to retrace them. I am on to read another book.

Waiting for definite info on their next endeavor (read the standalone)

Since I had some momentum, I decided to just keep right on going with volume three after finishing The Queen of Izmoroz. Satisfying endings for the characters but wow, that was quite the death toll at the end.

A bit misleading title and path that left me wanting, but I did enjoy the ending to this trilogy.

I’m a bit surprised there’s only one other review! I’ll keep this spoiler free since it is book three and I read an ARC. It’s been a super fun series! I’ve really enjoyed this author’s two trilogies. Their writing style is a wee bit on the bloody and grim side but it’s also fast paced so you never feel bogged down slogging through the bloody mire. The characters they write are also well done and interesting. I hope they have a third trilogy in them. I’d recommend both this author’s trilogies.

Thank you Orbit Books and Netgalley for giving me an ARC of this book for an honest review. All thoughts and feelings expressed are my own.

This is the third and final book in the Goddess War Series. Due to this being the final book, I am going to try to keep this review short and spoiler free. This is a multiple POV series, and as the story grows you get to see perspectives from all over the continent they are living on. Each country is very different, and I loved seeing how they represented all the different cultures and religions in this story.

This final book was a wonderful ending to the trilogy. At the end of the book, the author went into the future a little bit and gave us the closure we all needed. Throughout this series, I was very attached to Sonya and her ending I found to be interesting. It was definitely one that I did not see coming until it happened. Sebastian’s ending was everything that I could have hoped for and more. Sebastian grows so much throughout this series, and I was beyond happy to see the ending that he received. Jorge’s ending was utter perfection. I will say no more on his because you won’t really see that coming until you read this book.

The first book in this series will always be my favorite. There was just something about it that I just loved. Books two and three were not bad books, they just did not live up to the same magic I felt in that first one.

This is a vastly underrated series, and I love how the author made room to write other books in this series if they choose to.

This was a good conclusion to a series that only improved as it went on. It may not be my favorite of the series but it was written well and smartly plotted. The characters have evolved and changed so much from The Ranger of Marzanna -- Sonya and Sebastian especially underwent massive changes as a result of the choices they have made. I will be on the lookout for more fantasy from this author.

A beautiful redemption arc with unconditional sibling love and fantastic battle scenes. No one's motivations are clear and the real villain is finally exposed.
