Not everyone will make the party event of the Reign of X! Nightcrawler sure will, but first he must uncover the dark force hidden within Krakoa! Young Cable won't make it to the Hellfire Gala - this year or any other - as he learns that some summers end too soon. Meanwhile, the big night sounds like the perfect opportunity for the Children of the Atom to finally rub shoulders with mutant royalty. After all, Krakoa is their homeland…right? Collecting WAY OF X #2, CABLE (2020) #11-12 and CHILDREN OF THE ATOM #4-5.
Way of X - See my review of the first TPB here: Way of X by Simon Spurrier, Vol. 1. This is only issue 2 and it wraps up a long-standing issue with Legion fairly quickly, just to get him into a different place. Not really against it but it just happens really fast.
Children of the Atom - These two issues finally give more background to how they got their "power" as well as more personal characterization for a couple of the members. I still don't care too much for the title simply because it's teenagers, but I also still think it's well written, having a different approach to the story.
Collection: Way of X (2021) #2 Cable (2020) #11-12 Children of the Atom (2021) #4-5
Way of X #2 Nightcrawler's character development is astounding in this new take to his character. Completely hooked to this run, can't wait to watch this adventure with Legion unravel.
Cable #11-12 A great, and as expected never happy, ending to this Cable story, closing in all loose ends. And it's always great to see Deadpool make an appearance.
Children of the Atom #4-5 CotA adds interesting points of view to a world of superpowered beings making politics and war. While it is a fun read, most of the time it feels a bit random in the context of all that's happening in other runs at the same time, and the reveal of their true species (and why they never went to Krakoa) only adds more confusion as to what is so important about these six children.

Way of X: now we have another spooky force manipulating people's emotions on Krakoa, just like we covered in X-Force with the Quentin clone. I get coordination is hard but it's getting annoying
Cable: A nice satisfying ending to the arc, I think this has supplanted Maurauders as my favorite so far
Children of the atom: a nice thematic resolution, while I didn't love the story, it stuck to its guns and the themes it wanted to cover
A fun time with young Cable that I wasn’t expecting, but the Way of X/Onslaught Revelation is my favourite. The repercussions of even the most well-meaning laws is a neat exploration of religiosity in real life. It feels good to see characters wrestling with these things because that Stepford paradise wasn’t the most believable facade.

I really love these books and I really love the storyline. They’re very well written, and they characters are very rich and the storyline is exciting and heartwarming and sad all wrapped up in one.
A fun but not overly exciting next chapter in the Krakoan era of X-Books.
Way Of X #2: Si Spurrier isn't really my favorite X-writer but I'm enjoying how he's writing the interplay between Nightcrawler and Don't Call Me Legion, David. This is a turn issue, and I'm hopeful that the next part of the Patchwork Man saga will be intriguing.
Gerry Duggan's Cable issues reset the X-Norms so that teen heartthrob Cable is back in the timestream, and Grandpa Nathan is back. Teen Cable was fun, and I'd like to see him again but I'm also on board to see how Hope and other characters react to the return of the adult version.
I think Vita Ayala's writing has vastly improved over the course of Children Of The Atom. Unfrotunately, I was so turned off by the beginning of their story that I just don't care about the characters, and I'm not sure I will unless someone else works on them. But I am tentatively interested in seeing what Vita's next project is, and if it can have a smoother trajectory.
Still not as far as the Hellfire Gala! So frustrating hahaha
Way of X - still a weird comic, but I appreciate them finding a way to integrate Legion into the Krakoan narrative. I'm not 100% on-board with the whole religious/philosophical angle, but I'm curious to see what Legion will do now that he's back in circulation.
Cable - What a finale for this arc. Not sure where they're going to take things, but I hope we continue to get some good adventures for young Cable.
Children of the Atom - the whole "they're not actually mutants" angle finally comes to the fore in a weird confrontation. Still not sold on the comic as a whole, but it's certainly an angle to explore.
Well, this was a quick read for me. I've been avoiding Children of the Atom, and I very recently read the entire Way of X miniseries, so the only issues I read in this volume were the two that concluded Cable's story. Which it does by resetting to status quo on the character. Sigh. If I really thought that old Cable opened more story doors than young Cable, I'd be excited by bringing him back. I'm just not sure it does, which makes this at best a lateral move.
Cable's back! Finally! &%@#ing murderous little upstart needs to go.
Children of the Atom still looks amazing and I like these characters very much.
Way of X is getting better, but Legion has never been a favourite of mine. Nightcrawler has, but one can only read so many comics about Kurt being conflicted.
The entire new X-series has vastly diminishing returns, but this volume has some of the better issues going on with a couple of issues of Cable, Way of X (the best of the new series), and Children of the Atom, a fresh new take on a "mutant" superhero team.
This is one of the better volumes as you get to see the conclusion to cable and the start of an interesting direction for Nightcrawler. Children of the Atom is a decent read too.
1.5 . I can only give this one and half star because only Way of X is interesting, and THANKFULLY the young cable garbage is over here. Just build up amounting to nothing. Then that Children of the Atom garbage also hobbles to an end.
Cable was my least favorite in this issue. But I'm happy the people on Krakoa are finally moving on from their utopian dream and facing this challenges. Way of X was indeed a great surprise.
More Legion and the Summers family having a major team up? I could not have asked for more! TW for violence, family separation, murder, blood, gore, human experimentation, guns, death.
this volume proves charles and erik are a match made in heaven because they are both deadbeat dads with children who can accidentally destroy the world if they have a mental breakdown
