Join DI Ward and the team for an explosive third instalment of this unmissable murder mystery series. When a local business tycoon is murdered, the sleepy town of Skipton is stunned—but no one's mourning. Behind the multi-million pound façade is a man hated by everyone. DI Ward soon has a line of suspects longer than a rush hour traffic jam on the A629—all of whom have shocking, scandalous, and shameful secrets they're trying to keep—but which one is a murderer too? His team scatters across Yorkshire chasing answers, whilst overseas, there's finally a breakthrough in the major Varga investigation. DI Ward must double down to not only bring the international crime lord to justice, but the murderer on his doorstep—before they kill again to cover their tracks.
My first Meg Jolly read and definitely not my last. When a local property developer is found at home murdered there are plenty of suspects. DI Ward and his tram start to investigate concentrating on his wife who shows no emotion following his death. A brilliant storyline with loveable characters. Highly recommended.
Another first time of reading this series and author and although book 3, it reads well as a standalone. DI Daniel Ward becomes involved when a millionaire property developer is murdered in his own home who unfortunately has made many enemies over the years so finding his killer isn't going to be easy! Intertwined with this is the personal lives of both Daniel and the murder victim's family. Meg cleverly weaves the stories together without there being any hiccups to the overall tale. Add to that an ongoing investigation regarding a Slovakian trafficker and this is a great story. I had a few guesses at who the murderer was and was wrong on each one which for me is the sign of a good writer. I will now need to go and read the first two books! Thanks to the author for the ARC to review .
Another round withVarga but a new case takes preference in this latest novel from Meg Jolly The DI Ward series is proving to be an entertaining police investigation story that grows from book to book , the characters taking form and becoming familiar and welcome , the background filling in with minor details to improve the overall impact being made . Recommend this to anyone who incentivise with corruption and violence in todays crimminal society
The Mistakes We Deny by Meg Jolly is book 3 in the DI Daniel Ward series. There is a high profile murder and Daniel is under pressure to find the murderer quickly. Unfortunately, the list of suspects is very long. I really like the characters – Daniel himself and his colleagues, including DC Patterson who gives the reader a few laughs. They all work so well together and get on. I have enjoyed the whole series and would highly recommend.
This is a non bias arc review of this book. I enjoyed this D I Ward and his team book as much as the previous ones although I do feel D I Ward's character is starting to develop more in this one. These are set in West Yorkshire and I love the authors descriptions of her characters and the area in which the story line is set. A great book full of twists and turns.
I really like this authors end result. But she takes awhile to get there! This book had a lot of twists and turns, and never incensed I think that the villain was who it was! It just took a lot of filler words to get there. I am loving getting to know DI Daniel Ward and his team. And this book had some get very well placed humor that had me laughing out loud! All and all, I enjoyed it, but I still think Daniel should have asked for the phone number!
DI Ward and his team are on another case which is really well written to keep you turning pages. Robert and Miranda have grown the business from nothing and now are tired of each other leading separate lives which ends in tragedy. Murdered husband, assaulted wife, lots of suspects, plus on top of all that you have the Vanga underlying story running through still. I'm heading for the next book great stuff Meg thanks xx
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I read the first two books in this series, and I liked them. It felf like a fresh new detective, based in Yorkshire, near where I live. I wasn't keen on this book, it felt like it was written by someone else, Sad to say, I didn't think there was any plot to speak of, and there was too much unnecessary swearing!
A rich man is murdered in his home, so many enemies to choose from
When a building magnate is murdered in his own home it seems there are too many suspects.. Everyone hated him. Ward has to find the culprit while still setting his sights on Varga, the criminal mastermind he's tracked throughout this series...
Ward is a bit of an inverted snob. As a local to near Harrogate the criticism of Rudding Park was unjustified. The planning laws in the Dales National Park or so strict, they would not be allowed to build huge modern estates. Unfortunately not so outside the Park, as I know in my own village, which is supposed to be a conservation area.
Oh boy I simply could not put this book down, I wanted to finish it but was upset when I did, love the characters and I feel I know them, live in the area it’s set in so all the more real. You must read them in order but we’ll worth it.
This is the first of Megs books I have read and won't be the last. Very engaging, good plot and characters. Giving a well rounded smooth read. Very detailed description of injuries. Highly recommend, looking forward to reading the next instalment.
This is my first DI Ward book and I enjoyed it immensely. It was well-paced but not boring at all. The clues were understandable (no leap-of-faith statements by investigators) and easy to follow. I look forward to other books in this series.
Good mystery and who do it! So many suspects to the killing of a man not too many people liked. Also an ongoing story of a truly evil man who is into drugs solicitation and all for money(the oldest story of all).
Ward has a murder to solve whilst following the Varga case. The murder is solved with the team but only after further wmisdemeaners. . The gates case takes a twist with involvement of the Slovakian police.I moo m
Another great book in this series, the characters are really good and believable. The setting in Bradford and Yorkshire in general has some great local descriptions. Can D I Ward whittle down the list of suspects to find the guilty party.
Number 3 in what so far is proving to be, a proper edge of the seat series of books, I can't get enough of them, up half the night reading till my eyes droop, roll on the next one.. Thank You Meg Jolly.
Meg Jolly sets this series in the part of Yorkshire she loves this providing vivid descriptions of a part of England that many of us share her enthusiasm for. The series continues at a fast pace with yet another page turner to keep us engrossed.
I was so cross with Daniel in part of this book, but so understanding of the very choice that made me cross, that I realised how invested I am in these characters now. On to the next one…
I love the DI Daniel Ward books and each one is better than the last. All the characters are well rounded and the crimes/mysteries are thrilling. More please!
An interesting case. I have not read this series before but the charectors are well described and a good cast. I enjoyed this book Many suspects in the murder a surprising end
