I hesitate to call this "read" because at its core, it's a therapeutic workbook. My first one, actually. I've seen this at my workplace, shelved it too many times to count. But I finally came to the conclusion: I need more than what I was doing to get better in the mind. Now, I will say, there's a strange problem I had when working the end exercises: I began struggling to find anxious thoughts to put down! And for that, five stars. Another benefit is how the workbook explains its concepts in layman's terms without talking down to me. That, and the exercises feel bite sized: you're not asked (till the end at least), to recall traumatic experiences that led to anxiety, but look at what makes you panic on the daily, because for me, I realized I was so distracted by big picture anxiety, I forgot I need to tackle small picture worries first.
This book made me utilize techniques in a way that made sense. I will say, I really tried hard to pace myself (i.e. wanting to do an exercise or two per night), but the pages/techniques learned were like Lays: betcha can't eat just one. Five stars because this opened up a whole new world of reading for me: reading to heal. Also, am I the only one who's sad this is only a four book series? I want this doctor to tackle all facets of anxiety. Also, can we appreciate how every book focuses on a different category of niche (to me) mental health?
