Transform your life by tuning into the wisdom of your mind, body and soul in this hands-on guide to living well, from wellness warrior and actor Isabelle Cornish.
Did you know that true power comes from within, harnessing strength from vulnerability?
Informed by her personal journey with health and wellness, and drawing on her experiences as an actor, yoga teacher, personal trainer and health coach, Isabelle is on a mission to help inspire others to step into their power. After recovering from an eating disorder herself, she knows firsthand what it's like to feel a disconnect between popular portrayals of health and true reality.
The Why offers a toolkit for real life, teaching you how to listen to your heart, be more conscious and pick yourself up every time you fall down.
This was an easy read. I was able to finish it in about a week, and probably could’ve finished sooner if I didn’t have other priorities.
This is a great book if you suffer with minor poor mental health. A great book to get you focused and back on track if you find you are losing yourself for whatever reason.
I did find there were some sections of the book that I couldn’t connect with… for now. I know I’ll keep this book around, so I can go back to it again later if need be.
Definitely worth a read, not for everyone, but still a good easy read.
I had the opportunity to read The Why by Isabelle Cornish thanks to publishing house Murdoch Books as I am a Podcast Host of a Mental Health, Self-Help Book podcast show: Feel Good From Within with Yvette Le Blowitz - #spaitgirl talk show - I have to say from the moment I started reading her book I couldn’t put it down, it was such a feel good book read and it’s now one of my all time favourite books, I couldn’t help think as a mental health podcast host how every mother, or young teenage girl should read The Why as Isabella Cornish is such a beautiful role model talking about the importance of creating healthy habits, like spending time in nature, practicing mindfulness, moving your body, but she also opens up about her own body image struggles and shares her story on how she overcame that and for someone who is an Actor on TV and constantly in the media and social media learning how we are more than our body is a much needed message for all of us regardless of our age. I also loved how she shared how she has ADHD and I think as a Mental Health Podcast Host how she really shares not to let any label define you.
I personally think it’s a Must Read Book, and it definitely has made me feel good, if you are looking for a feel good read, a easy read, light, practical nothing to heavy when it comes to learning how to create healthy habits for an epic life this is definitely the book for you.
Also if you have read my review and than grab a copy of the book I welcome you now to the #spaitgirlbookclub the goal is to read one book a month of your choice and when you grab a copy of your book to share what you are reading on social media by tagging @spaitgirl plus the author and than using hashtag #spaitgirlbookclub welcome to our book club.
**disclaimer: gifted PRESS Media contra Book - but I am definitely saying what I think
A very comforting book and very nicely written. It's a mixture between a self-help book and a philosophy book, with lots of interesting psychology and social science peppered in along the way.
Essentially, the author - Isabelle Cornish - has compiled a wide mixture of recommendations, tips, approaches for living a more meaningful and effective life. Some of it is fairly basic stuff, but it is also very practical and useful in other regards. It's very nicely structured as well, so feels very comforting in leading you through its many tips and habits.
TLDR: nothing unique or special about the book, lacks a spark that could’ve been if isabelle cornish expanded on her neurodivergence.
this book wasn’t for me. isabelle’s unique and quirky personality was refreshing to see, but that was the only standout about this book for me. the things she writes about are all things that have already been said and done before (imo), this however, makes this a good book for a first self-help read.
i picked up the book originally because isabelle is neurodivergent, and i thought it would be good to read a book by someone with a similar mind to me. however, i feel the book missed the chance to have that unique voice. it almost felt like some of the story was missing, like cornish purposely didn’t dive into her experience with self care and ADHD in order to make it a book that can apply. which is sad, because the neurodivergent perspective is what could’ve made this book great, and not to mention is much needed within our society.
TW: eating disorders i would recommend this book for a first self-help read, or with those struggling/recovering from an eating disorder, because isabelle did successfully talk about her own experience and recovery
I first saw Isabelle in Puberty Blues - a show I was obsessed with throughout high school & started my love for the phrase “y’a mole”
Iz then came on my screen again in 2021’s season of SAS Australia. She was absolutely awesome, a force to be reckoned with and became a total inspiration to me. When I found out Iz was publishing her own book, I pre-ordered & couldn’t wait for it to arrive.
The messages are wholesome and lovely. Some messages are very easy going & what I would have loved to hear when I was a teenager, some were messages that I needed reminding of and some were fresh & new that had a direct impact into my current life. I’ll keep this book as a source of happiness & comfort for so many years to come, it has a pretty special place in my heart.
Started reading this book last week and wow. It’s so beautifully written. And so so SO nice to have practical and actionable steps. I feel like sometimes books are so ambiguous with how to make improvements in your life and you don’t even know where / how to start / don’t actually provide anyone with actionable steps to get started.
I feel your book is so down to earth and just so USEFUL!! So many people reading it will be able to better their lives, even if they just make small changes. You should be so proud of all the incredible things you’ve accomplished. One of my favourite things I’ve picked up in a long time. Can’t wait to finish it 💕💕💕
I bought this book to read while on a solo retreat in the caravan. My aim was to focus on my health and wellbeing and this book provided some ideas to guide that journey even if I was not specifically the target audience for this book.
I think it written more for 16-28 year old females, so I gave it to my son's girlfriend, but at the very least it's easy to follow and sparks some sense of change or affirmation of the changes you are making. It is also carefree and takes care not to be intimidating.
Maybe 19 year old me would have liked this book, but 24 year old me didn’t. It seemed very preach-y and speaking in absolutes while prefacing them with insecure qualifiers like “could” and “wish”. The chapter on nutrition gave me a headache and was hypocritical “eat all foods but only healthy ones” and “avoid chemicals and genetically modified foods” like literally EVERYTHING is made of chemicals, no need to fear monger. Would have preferred to have seen more evidence-informed recommendations and fewer personal anecdotes.
From the moment I started reading this book, I felt more like myself. I couldn't believe how much it resonated with me. It was like everything I was thinking and needed all written out for me. The more I read, the more weight I could feel coming off my shoulders. I am thankful for the wisdom of THE WHY, it was exactly what I needed. <3
Absolutely loved this book, there are some super profound messages & inspirational things in there. Some parts especially resonated for me as I recently found out I also have a form of ADHD. I’ve been learning all about how I can use that as my super power & I find this book really supports that. Thank-you iz for sharing your story & insights 🤍🦋✨
I absolutely loved this book. It is filled with gorgeous advice, helpful tips, comforting stories, and it has helped me get in touch with my own feelings and desires. It is so helpful and pure, and I have felt so encouraged and empowered through these humble ways of living. Thank you, Isabelle, for sharing some of your wisdom and your pure zest for life!
During quarantine, having the chance to read something so relaxing and unwinding, helped isolation move on faster and got me ready to start a new lifestyle when I returned into work and social outings, a whole new self love chapter has begun and a lot more questions and curiosity about myself and what I love and want. 1000% recommended
A beautiful book that I took the time to digest. I would read a section and then try to implement it into my life and I’ve truly noticed a change in my mood and how seriously I take life. Isabelle reminds us to have fun and follow our hearts.
I intend to read this book again and again over time whenever I need reminding of healthy habits to make me feel better 🙌🏼
Some good ideas for different meditations. Some questionable science (eg that if you eat fruit after a heavy meal, it will ferment in your stomach… fermentation doesn’t happen in acidic environments), but mostly sound advice. I would have hated this if it was written by a twenty-something American, but Australians are so much less grating to listen to 😅
This book is honestly amazing! It captivates overcoming challenges, anxieties and overwhelming emotions- and the best part is it comes from experience from the author them self. It has moving exercises that truely helps give you perspective of the bigger picture. In all honesty, It’s the best!
almost finished this book & it's definitely a book i'll keep forever to look back through! it's been super helpful for my journey & have learnt a lot from this book. It's definitely one i would recommend and have already recommended to my friends & family 🤍
I could read this again and again and again! So inspiring and I gained so much from Isabelle, honestly the book I needed to read this year and I’ve already passed it onto 3 friends and family members 💕
This isn’t exactly ground breaking knowledge.. so depending on what you’re into, this might be full of things you already know or do. Regardless I still found this easy to follow along with & it has a good message. A great book for someone in their early 20’s!
2.5/5 ⭐️⭐️ - Whilst an easy read, it didn’t bring raise anything new and rehashed a lot of information that can be found in most self help/ development books.
I would’ve loved a little more insight into her life for personal reference.
4.5 ⭐️ This book didn't necessarily have any 'new' information in it for myself but it was definitely inspiring and I LOVED that Isabelle was very holistic in her approach to creating and discussing healthy habits compared to focusing purely on mind and body like a lot of other self-help books do.
Nice, easy read with some fantastic journalling prompts! No real new information for me (since I've been on a reflective journey for about 15 years) but always good to be reminded at the beginning of a new year.
This book SAVED me!! This book was my holy grail guide to helping me mentally get back into loving who I am & not living in my head. This book found me at the right time and place and helped me in a way i never thought possible! Will forever hold a special place in my heart ❤️
Didn't feel like there was anything new is this book that I haven't read in other personal development books. Only read maybe a few sections and skimmed over the rest.
This book was alright; I liked parts of it. Isabelle presents the information in an accessible, relatable and encouraging way. That said, it doesn't add anything new to the health/self-help genre and just regurgitates tips you mostly likely have heard many times before. I think it might be best received by younger girls, especially those who follow Isabelle/have more connection to her.
Isabelle’s book is inspiring, engaging and practical. She writes from personal perspective and with realistic approaches to better your lifestyle and the way you feel about yourself. As a young adult woman, this book is thoroughly helpful, insightful, relatable and comforting. I have enjoyed every bit of it!!
