When I first read this book (and the series) years ago, I was absolutely in love. Finally, a book series with realistic horses! It earned the name of my favorite series for years. I just finished re-reading it, and I'm sad to say, I wasn't quite as thrilled. The writing didn't flow that well, and the characters and plots seemed a little stilted. It read like a self-published book; great premise, not quite perfectly done. I've dropped it to 4 stars for this reason. I still loved it, though, and it will forever be a treasured piece of my childhood!! For horse loving kids, this book is a definite must read!
pretty good book. kind of wish i read it when i first got it. she reminds me of me. i would do anything to save an animal, even if it put myself in danger.
This was an awesome book. I thought the plan to kidnap Caspar was too risky. There was many problems that hadn't been thought through. When Mr. Harefield came to Saddle Island, I was thinking oh no, Mr. Harefield is going to find Caspar. Good thing he fell into a hole. I thought Kelsie was really kind to help Mr. Harefield get out the hole and also when Mr. Harefield's boat got ripped apart. She risked her life to save Mr. Harefield, even though he treated others and horses terribly. I also thought that it was nice of Mr. Harefield to give Caspar to Kelsie. The ending was very happy in a way. At the end, when Aunt Maggie came with Kelsie, Andy, and Jen to Saddle Island, they all made a wish in the wishing spring. I think Jen wished Andy would like her or something. I wish there was a part where Gabriel and Kelsie are together and Jen and Andy are together.

For the kids, it's got horses, a mystery, an extraordinarily tame romantic veneer, and a forbidden island. For adults, especially those who remember things like the Nancy Drew books with some fondness, it might be a sort of guilty pleasure. I had fun reading it.
I thought it was a amazing book..... I would love to read it again..... I would do anything for a horse like that girl did. The adventure grabbed my attention right away. I couldn't put the book down. You should definitely read it
