Arrow Creek #4

Where Our Turn Begins

Rate this book
Caiti Harris thought her story ended the night her husband died.

She packed their history away like trinkets in an old box and held steadfast to the ache. Life granted her one love, and after he was cruelly ripped away, she knew there wouldn’t be anyone else.

When a tempting bartender invites her to stay for a drink after closing, she agrees to one night, not a lifetime commitment. His sinful smile promises to chase away the pain of the past while his chiseled body guarantees to ward off the unrelenting chill.

Her love life ended, but that doesn’t mean she’s sentenced to an existence of total solitude.

Dane’s world is exactly the way he wants. Tidy. He keeps a watchful eye over his bar, and remains a pillar for the people he cares for most. So when the woman he’s dreamt about for three years shows up at his door with a toddler in tow, he’s ready for the challenge. The two come as a package deal.

Caiti only wants to establish a connection with him in the event something happens to her. A backup plan to keep their daughter safe. She didn’t expect to be whisked away in an ambulance before she could explain her sudden return to Arrow Creek.

Dane’s vision soars beyond an eighteen year commitment. He sees a lifetime of settling down. And he’s not ready to give up his turn without a fight for their daughter.

Or her.

I couldn't get going on this story. I only got to the place where she goes to nursing home to paint nails for residents. It seems random why she decided one day to do this despite some nasty panic attacks and being tired from long trip.

Trip from Colorado and why?? It's an awkward story. It has potential but I have plenty of TBR to travel this slow going story.

I literally just finished this book. I’m sitting here almost in tears because it was just so amazing and I loved it so much and I wish I could read it for the first time all over again.

This is kinda personal but I feel the need to share. I’ve been dealing with some anxiety and depression lately and it’s been hard to find books to hold my interest. I can’t count the number that I’ve started and couldn’t finish. I even did a reread of a super favorite that I’ve read so many times and it usually takes a day or two, but this time around it took more like three or four. I’ve been in a slump. I happened to see a tiktok with a line from Where Our Turn Begins and it really caught my eye so I had to one click. I’m so glad I did!

Ok so the reason I shared above about my personal struggle is because the heroine, Caiti, is also struggling with severe anxiety and panic attacks. She’s lost her husband and isn’t coping well. She meets the hero, Dane, and they have a one night stand that results in a surprise baby. Three years later, with the anxiety getting worse and worse, and having a creepy stalker around, Caiti decided she needs to make contingency plans for her daughter, should something happen to her. So she shows up on Dane’s doorstep in full blown panic attack. Thus begins their reacquaintance and him learning he has a child.

I liked Caiti a lot. I could actually relate to her in some ways and I really felt her struggle. I definitely connected to this character on an emotional level. There were a few times I wanted her to just give in and tell Dane she was all in, but she needed to go at her pace (not mine lol)

Dane. He may be the best hero I’ve read in so long! I loved him! LOVED. HIM. He was amazing. He was possessive, protective and total alpha male but also laid back and easy going. Until you mess with one of his girls. He was upset to learn he’d missed 2.5 years of his child’s life, but he was never ugly to Caiti about it. He had a very 'it is what it is and let’s move forward’ attitude. It was so refreshing! He wanted to be a part of both his girls’ lives and was so understanding about Caiti’s anxiety and her lingering grief for her dead husband. He never tried to get her to just let it go and move on, he just wanted to help her heal so she could live. It was incredibly beautiful. They had arguments, they had sexy times and they had sweet times. Ophelia was the cutest two and a half year old fictional character lol. I just really needed this book right now and I’m so glad I found it. It was such a good book!

I’m definitely interested in the others in this series so I’ll probably start at the beginning and read them in order… like I normally would do.

Dane and Caiti met 3 years ago when she was in town and became a widow at a young age. They are talking as she is having drinks at his bar and they have a one night stand. Of course she is gone the next morning along with his shirt.
current day, Caiti is the single parent of adorable Ophelia and she decides that she needs to let Dane know he is a Daddy. When she arrives in town, she is in the middle of pounding on his door when she has a panic attack and that is how he becomes aware of the consequences of that night. Everything became too much in that moment and with everything going on she decides to stay in town a little longer and let Dane get to know his daughter.
This was a good book that focused on a small town and some good friends. Dane and his friends extended their love for the pair and we get to see Caiti come to terms with her grief and the loss of her husband 3 years prior. She did everything alone and had no one to support her and Ophelia, her parents turned their back on her and her husband's friend didn't stay in touch after his death.. all this leading up to why she seeks Dane out when she becomes frightened about Ophelia having no family if anything should happen to her. The scary situation that finally sets her off, was not as much as a "drama" situation as I though it would be and the character turned out to be weak and didn't really live up to the "hype". I loved the relationship that Dane and then Caiti had with Dane's mother, that was touching.
While I didn't read the previous books in the series, I am going to go back and read about those wonderful friends as well. This book was a nice length, had so much depth and definitely one clickable!.

This is book four in The Arrow Creek series and it is Caiti and Dane's story and omg it is definitely a must read. When Caiti's husband Eric died she is not only lost but devastated but still glad that she has had the experience of her one true love even though the pain of being with our him would not go away. Dane owns a bar and makes sure that everyone is safe but he has so much going on that he doesn't have time for relationships or commitments and even though six months after Caiti's husband died he can still see her grief but that doesn't stop him from wanting her and that is how they end up spending a night together only for her to disappear. A few year's later and Caiti has her beautiful daughter Ophelia who is her life but Caiti is afraid to go anywhere and lives of the grid as she keeps having disturbing text messages which makes her not only afraid for herself but also her daughter and the police are no help at all and now she realised that the one person that can help them doesn't realise that he has a daughter and Caiti doesn't know what he will say or do when he finds out but she has no other choice. When they meet again things don't go according to plan but danger is just around the corner watching and waiting for the time to strike but how will it all end. I absolutely loved this book and I couldn't put it down as it had me turning the pages and on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next and it was so addictive and I can't wait to read more book's by this author.

Book 4 in the Arrow Creek series. I really enjoyed this one. Likable characters. Great character development. Well written. Everything flows and plays out really well. The surprise pregnancy was done really well. Caiti has lost a lot and is grieving it all. She's still processing it as she deals with her fears and anxiety. Dane is perfect and very supportive to Caiti and what she needs. He's very patient. Really loved their story. Looking forward to reading more from AM Wilson.

So good! I loved Dane. His reaction to Caiti and her stuff (trying not to spoil!). His nickname for her, I just adored. I love how Caiti's problems didn't just instantly go away. I feel like I can't properly rave about this book without giving anything away. I read a couple of books in the series, but not all. It would help to read them, but I don't think you'd be terribly lost if you didn't. Ophelia was just a perfect character, although I would have loved to know if there was meaning in her name, since it's so unusual. Overall, a very enjoyable story.

I honestly loved this book so much. I cried, I laughed, and I smiled. Caiti dealt with some debilitating anxiety that pretty much took over every aspect of her life. The way these panic attacks were described was so brutally honest and real. I loved how Dane was so understanding and patient with her. Dane’s story also made me so so sad. Their daughter was also so freaking cute 🥰 Overall, this book was so emotional, real, and gut-wrenching. it just sticks with you days after reading it. you need to read this book.

Having read What Tears Us Down i've been wanting to get back into this series! From the moment i found out about this fourth installment i instantly started looking forward to it! I picked it up as soon as i could and got right back into the Arrow Creek world! I enjoyed this story!

Caiti and Dane's journey captured my attention right from the get go! These two shared one night together. As they're brought back into each other's lives, nothing will be the same.

I was so glad that i got to dig into both of their minds. I really liked the realness these two both showed throughout. I wasn't sure how everything was going to go in their story which i enjoyed. I felt so many things from start to finish!

With Where Our Turn Begins, Ms.Wilson has created such a good read that made me feel so much! I can't wait to read more of work, especially the Arrow Creek books!

Emotional and Extraordinary!!

Caiti is a widow. One night with tempting bartender Dane results in a daughter. As he declared he did not want children, she returns home and never informs him – until she is scared by a stalker, and needs protection for her daughter.

One of the nicest “surprise baby” reactions I have ever read. Dane isn’t anti kid – there are family reasons he was abstaining. The reaction and care as he helps Caiti is such a refreshing and entertaining read.

The author has a way with words with this story. She develops the characters so well that we feel the pain Caiti is going thru from almost page one. And Dane. Oh my does he have the patience of a saint. Every woman should have a Dane. He worships, cares for and loves her and immediately steps in to do whatever it is she needs. This book is worth a re-read!

Tropes: Small town romance, surprise pregnancy, second chances, the sweetest hero 😍

⚠️Check triggers⚠️

I saw the author promote this book on tiktok last night. I had some e-credits and decided to buy this book. I'm so glad I did because I LOVED it. It was the perfect book to read after all of the dark romances I've been reading.

Admittedly, the surprise pregnancy trope isn't one I gravitate towards. I don't always think its done well, but this book is the perfect example of that trope done perfectly.

I absolutely LOVE Dane. He's honestly so perfect and I loved him every moment of this book. He's so sweet with Caiti. He's supportive of her as she processes through her continued grief, fears, and anxiety. He was so clearly in love with her from the beginning. I couldn't get enough of how patient he was with her and that he knew how much he wanted her. I died a little every time he called her mama 😍 He's amazing with Ophelia and stepped right into his parent role. He's the definition of a true partner to Caiti and what everyone wants in a partner when raising kids.

Caiti has my heart. She's endured a lot with the loss of her husband (not a spoiler, I promise), her parents, and other things in her life. I so related to her anxiety and the way it can be debilitating. She's a great mom and partner, and I loved getting to see her blossom.

I'd love more of them as a couple and family! I could read so much more about how they function together. Ugh, this couple has my heart ❤️

This had all the potential to be great but just didn’t develop well in my opinion. It’s like it took a bunch of tropes and tried tossed them together hoping they stuck. I love a surprise baby so that’s why I originally picked this up.

The stalker thing was random and ended in such a bizarre way I think it could have been removed entirely.

The volunteering with what ended up being his mom definitely could have been flushed out more.

A man who specifically had a vasectomy to ensure he never had children suddenly being told he has a toddler, you’d think he’d have a bigger reaction than he did.

Nothing really connected for me but I did skim through to the end because I’m a sucker.

So confused about the average rating for this book. If you like super traditional gender roles with no surprises in the story whatsoever then sure, otherwise this is not for you.

The writing is not bad per se, but the storyline really isn’t to my taste. The use of “mama” is just awkward (especially during spicy scenes), the little girl character lacks so much realism, the plot twist of the boss being the stalker is foreseeable from miles away, and the ending just lacks any kind of flavor. Honestly I don’t understand how this book is 4 stars.

There was no excitement in this book. I felt like it was hard to like the characters except for Evie. Caiti was annoying, she was always trying to find something wrong with herself and something that could prevent her from staying. I think the panic attacks could have been handled better and maybe actually talk about her actual suffering rather than just skimming over it. The whole concept of her driving by herself was pointless. Dane was just bland, he accepted his daughter and acted as if she was never a secret for the last three years. I wish there was more drama or flare to this book

An emotional beautiful journey

This is book 4 in this series, but can be read as a stand alone. It’s an emotional journey as the fmc struggles to overcome grief and anxiety and the mmc who carries the weight of the world on his shoulders finds out his one night stand resulted in a daughter he never knew about.

Caiti was married to the love of her life until he suddenly dies and her world falls apart. Six months later she has a one night stand with a friend of her SIL and disappears before morning. For three years she ghosts the SIL and no one knows she has a daughter. When she is fearful for her safety, she flees back to their town to find Dane to make sure their daughter has someone to care for her if something happens.

This is heavy on the emotional aspect. Caiti’s grief is palpable even three years later. She has not dealt at all with it, and being thrust into motherhood hasn’t given her the time to make it a priority. She also has been dealing with a stalker of sorts harassing her for the past six months. Though tbh that storyline was just meh. It could have been removed and not changed the story. It wasn’t even really an integral part of the story. It was part of the catalyst for her to leave town and added to her anxiety, but wasn’t even mentioned much, so could have been removed. Her emotional trauma from loss was enough to carry the story. She has increasing crippling anxiety and manages to make it to Dane’s door before an anxiety attack overwhelms her and she thinks she’s having a heart attack.

Dane is perfection. Seriously. He bears the weight of the world on his shoulders. He never intended to have children, took steps to prevent it (I’m guessing the vasectomy was after their hookup? That part doesn’t come up) but didn’t flinch when she showed up with a kid that looks like him. He was all in. She was still grieving and he never once said “man, get over it already”. Nope, he held her when she cried about her husband and said he’d be there for her. The man is a dream. So many reviewers hated that he called her “mama” as a term of endearment, but I adored it. He was everything she needed, and in return she was everything he needed (just took her longer to get there). They’re a great couple. Zero drama between them as a couple, no forced or contrived third act break up. It’s refreshing to see some adults facing adults issues like adults. ❤️

This book follows Caiti, a single, widowed mother who lives in Colorado with her daughter Ophelia, who is the result of a one night stand. Caiti struggles with the death of her husband as well as her ongoing anxiety. Caiti also has a stalker who seems to be quite obsessed with her and her daughter. When Caiti finally gets to her breaking point, she moves back to the town where she met her husband. Living there is her sister in law as well as her baby daddy. This is where our hero Dane comes in. Dane runs the local bar in town. He is in for a surprise when Caiti shows up with Ophelia by her side and passes out on his doorstep. From then on Dane makers it his responsibility to take care of his girls. Evie(sister in law), convinces Caiti to stay for the next month for her wedding. In this time, Dane is doing his best to convince Caiti to stay. Their relationship continues to grow throughout the book, as well as, Caiti’s character development. We get to meet Danes mother who is in a nursing home suffering from the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s. We also learn who Caiti’s stalker is after he shows up in front of Danes apartment. After Dane suffers from a terrible accident towards the end of the book, Caiti is really out to the test….will she have to go through this twice or will he survive?
