Love in the City #3

Outrageously in Love

Rate this book
What’s the most outrageous thing you’ve ever done?

I keep my nose stuck in a book where things are safe. But after a night out with friends, it becomes painfully obvious that while I've lived a million lives between the pages, I’ve never had an adventure of my own.

So when my sister asks me to fly to New York for her wedding, I decide to become Harriet 2.0: a bold, outgoing version of myself. Who knew this little experiment would initiate me into the mile high club?

Except, Luke isn't just the tall, sexy stranger in the middle seat with a devastating smile and gorgeous forearms. He's here in New York, and he’s totally off-limits.

When I learn that he’s a gamer who gets all my nerdy references, I can’t stay away—even if it might jeopardize my sister’s wedding. With my time in New York running out, I find myself wanting to do the most outrageous thing of all: take a chance on love.

*

Please note that this book contains sensitive topics such as high school bullying and self-harm. It also includes panic attacks and divorce. I hope I have treated these issues with the care they deserve.

Outrageously in Love contains cursing and sex scenes, and is intended for audiences 18 years and older.

This book can be read as a standalone, but it contains spoilers for the earlier books in the series.

Cute and sweet, Outrageously in Love is my favourite surprise this year. A romance between two nerds falling in love via Star Wars and Harry Potter quotes, full of complications that don’t let them be together despite all the chemistry in the air and a wonderful cast of side characters.

“What’s the wildest thing you’ve ever done? Surely, you’ve done something?”
“Harriet? Are you kidding? She spends all of her time with her nose in a book. Her hero is Hermione Granger. Her idea of doing something wild would be returning a library book after a due date.”
For one, I don’t return books late. And two, I’m not that boring.
Am I?

Harriet lives her life buried in books, afraid of the world outside. Encouraged by her friends, she decides to change and be more adventurous, to become Harriet 2.0 who is not afraid of anything. Harriet 2.0 is the one who flies from New Zealand to New York to go to her sister’s wedding and ends up having sex with a stranger in the bathroom on the plane.

Harriet 2.0 is also the one to blame when it turns out the stranger is none other than Luke, the best man and brother of her soon-to-be brother-in-law. Now they have to work together to plan the wedding, no touching, no flirting and, under no circumstances, falling in love.

This book is the perfect mix for someone who loves a nerd hero and a bookworm heroine who is really easy to connect to. I love that both of them are flawed characters that have a great development during the story, facing their fears and pursuing their dreams. Harriet suffers anxiety after being bullied in high school and spends her days reading because she’s too afraid of getting hurt. Luke is still trying to make his father proud, even if the only way is destroying his happiness in the process.

“Stop.” Luke holds up a hand, pressing his eyes shut as though he’s in pain. “You have to stop quoting Stars Wars to me.”

“Why?”

“Because it’s torturing me, Harriet.”

Jen Morris masterfully captured how perfect they are together. Harriet and Luke complement each other like they were made to be together and it feels like that since the very first time they meet. There were so many adorable scenes of their daily life where I wanted to lose myself and never came back!

His gaze drifts down my body. “Damn, you look hot in my shirt.”
I hide my grin behind my coffee cup.
“I made pancakes.”
Nobody has ever made me pancakes. Nobody’s ever made me breakfast. I take a big sip of coffee, trying to pretend that it doesn't make me ridiculously happy. “Sounds good.”
“Are you hungry?” He says, stepping closer.
“I’m starving.” I run my tongue out over my bottom lip.
Luke’s eyes linger on my mouth, the espresso-colored irises turning an inky black. “Good.”
I think he ‘s fighting the urge to kiss me, and it makes me hot all over.
“Luke,” I say, closing the gap between us, bringing my mouth an inch from his.
“Yeah?” He chokes up.
“I want some pancakes.”

The side characters were amazing. My favourite was Geoff, Harriet’s friend, who was the most beautiful, kindest person the world has seen. Can I have a book about him, pretty please? I also loved the way Jen Morris resolved the conflict at the end. I’m not going to spoil anything, but they both fighted for their love and it was beautiful to see both sides trying to make things right.

The only critique I have is that the ex wife of the hero in the second book -which I haven’t read yet-, appears here too and it was the typical Disney villain who lives to make the others' life hell. I found it completely out of place in a book where the characters were so flesh out. I’d also have enjoyed a dual POV, but at least the epilogue is in the hero’s POV!!

“Shh,” he whispers between chaste kisses. “I’m trying to kiss you.”
Oh, I know what will do the trick. I’ll channel Yoda. “Do or do not, there is no tr-”
“Don’t.” He puts a finger over my lips, a sexy grin tilting his mouth. “If you keep that up, I’ll fall in love with you.”

Overall, I really enjoyed the book - I may have found a new favourite author. I truly recommend giving it a try if you are looking for a sweet romance that will make you smile, characters who make mistakes but learn from them and the most nerdy-perfect couple you’ll find -but who are also spicy when they need to be ;)

Thank you so much Apoorva!! I wouldn't have discover this book if it wasn't for you 💕

I remember the author asking on instagram while writing this something along the lines of "is there such thing as too many sex scenes?" ... my answer was to blithely quote Mean Girls & say "The limit does not exist" 😆

Morris strikes a good balance in this, while steamier than her previous books with the characters joining the Mile High Club within the first 10% - I for one deffo didn't begrudge these adorkable "nerds" getting their 🔥 kicks
💋 The red lipstick Steph donates to Harriet 2.0's cause should accompany each book as that stuff sounds fab & stays on forever #tipspleaseJen

This missed the mark a smidge for me, as many will be familiar with my dislike for lack of/miscommunication, namely ommissions between MCs really irk me as did Alex in this book - who honestly had the opposite problem to the main characters and overshared stuff which really wasn't hers to talk about...also, lady timing is a thing and an unofficial rehearsal dinner ain't it! 🤦‍♀️ Also don't get me started on her not believing her sister & needing to hear same info from a dude she's known less time 🙄

Geoff was 100% MVP again this book and I will be lowkey sad if he cannot somehow manage an awesome cameo or more in Corey's book - even tho I don't think they're that close 🤗

🐢 was an unexpected treat & I enjoyed all the nerdy references even if some of them flew over my head. I appreciated the sensitivity shown towards Harriets struggles with anxiety and as always adored most of the side characters except for Alex...altho tbf, she kind of annoyed me in her book so that's probably a personality clash 😅

"And finally, to anyone who has ever been bullied for who they are and/or what they love, to anyone who suffers anxiety...you are not alone. You are not broken. And you will not be defeated."
(Fab message in the author's acknowledgments that I had to share)

3.75*

Can we also take a moment to 🤩😍 for how the covers of this series all compliment and play off each other so well 🥰

To all the nerds out there, this one is the perfect read for you!!

TW/CW : Mentions of self harm, bullying, panic and anxiety attacks

Jen Morris has written a story that flows well with a fast paced plot and wonderfully nerdy characters. I connected with Harriet more than I thought was possible. Both her reluctance to venture out of her comfort zone and her exhilaration at having found a bolder version of herself were masterfully written. I absolutely loved seeing Harriet discover this new, exciting side of herself and it was satisfying to see how she grew into herself completely with Luke’s encouragement and of her own accord. I loved how much she cared about her sister and how she went out of her way to help her.

With Luke, we got an adorably awkward, gentle hero with a side of spicy. His shyness, his love for his brother, his uncertainty in embracing his full nerd-self were all instrumental in endearing me to him. Although you might argue that their relationship moved at a fast pace, Jen Morris has built up their connection so well that you will not only find it believable, but will also find yourself rooting for them.

Outrageously In Love is a well written story that will tug at your heart strings. It is a story about finding yourself as much as it is about finding love. Although you have to let go of reality to believe that some of it, you will still enjoy this quick read. You should definitely pick this up if you’re looking for a book complete with board games loving nerds, Star Wars references, A John Stamos replica and all the drama that comes with keeping secrets.

Special Thanks to Jen Morris for generously providing an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for my honest opinions.

This book leaves me speechless. I need a few days to regroup. I'm ruined for all other books at the moment.
Harriet is quiet and keeps to herself. That is until she is out one night with her friend Steph and she can't seem to come up with one outrageous thing she's done. Embarrassed, she decides to say yes to her sister who wants her to travel to New York City and be her maid of honor in her wedding. Terrified Harriet gets on the plane and meets Luke by falling into his lap trying to get in her seat. She decides to be Harriet 2.0 and tell Luke she loves adventure and has been skydiving. One thing leads to another and the two have sex on the plane.
This book was by far my favorite romcom this year. I absolutely loved the banter between Harriet and Luke. I've also read this series other books so I love the other characters as well. This one is my favorite though. I'll definitely be reading this one again and I never reread books

I see this book has rave reviews but it didn't work for me. Probably because I'm an actual nerd and I don't see the point of writing a book about two nerds falling in love and spending most of the book describing being a nerd as something boring and shameful. It's very... 30 years ago? Hello, the whole pop culture literally revolves around geeks and we wear our nerd badges with pride.
Also, apparently, if you're an introvert who enjoys books and doesn't sleep around, you're boring. This is such a lovely message I regret I don't have a daughter so that I could share it with her.
Third, and this is a minor qualm, the game Luke developed is described as something a huge gaming studio would develop over a couple of years, not something a dude can just whip up in his living room.
The rest is pretty standard rom-com, even though the plot "we can't be together because it'd ruin the wedding" is extremely thin (but then again, I don't live in such a wedding-obsessed culture). Anyway, it's a nope for me.

I was very kindly sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book follows the story of Harriet (Alex’s sister from book 1 in the Love in the City series).

On a night out with her friends, they talk about the most outrageous thing they’ve ever done. Harriet realises, after listening to the others, that she hasn’t really done anything outrageous. After telling Alex that she wouldn’t be flying to New York to be her maid of honour, she suddenly changes her mind. Her friend Steph, somehow manages to convince Harriet to create an alter ego - Harriet 2.0.

Steph waves Harriet off at the airport after giving her a new bright red lipstick and tucking a condom into her bra!

Harriet is terrified of flying and after landing at Houston to board another flight to New York she literally falls onto the lap of a handsome stranger. After a couple of whiskeys and a lot of chat, Harriet does something completely outrageous. She joins the mile high club with the handsome stranger.

When she finally arrives at JFK Airport, there is no handsome stranger and none of her luggage.

She soon discovers that the handsome stranger is, in fact, the best man and Michael’s (the grooms) brother, Luke.

Trying to fight their attraction, Harriet and Luke take over the last few bits of wedding prep as Michael and Alex are so busy with work. Can they keep their mutual attraction at bay or will they give in to it?

I have read all three books in this series now and I think this one has been my favourite. The subjects of bullying, anxiety and panic attacks are all covered in this book and are done with excellent sensitivity. Jen is just fab and I really enjoy chatting to her on Instagram and am very grateful to have been gifted all three of these books from her. Congratulations Jen on another fabulous book. I’m now wondering who will be the next fabulous woman you’ll be writing about. I’m thinking maybe Paula ….

A definite 4⭐️ from me.

Third in the Love in the City series and my favorite. This books centers around the wedding of Alex from book one and her sister Harriet coming to be a bridesmaid at her wedding.

I loved Harriet and her quest to be Harriet 2.0 - I totally get wanting to branch out from your comfort zone when you take a vacation. And the best part was that Harriet didn’t become anyone new, she just challenged herself to be brave in situations where she wouldn’t normally be. I was so nerd proud of her.

She meets Luke on the plane and immediately hits it off. I love how even as their situation got more and more complicated, they realized the special connection that they had. But this is the type of book that gives me serious anxiety, because I’m waiting for that other shoe to fall. Because it always falls.

And the steamy parts?! Don’t even get me started. So, so good!!

The one issue I had was Harriet’s financial ability to realize her dream in NYC. I felt like that whole situation was totally glossed over and unrealistic. She worked in a coffee shop in NZ, how could she possibly afford that? And there are so many rules in leasing commercial real estate… do not get me started.

I did love how panic attacks were so normalized in this book and how Luke empathized and took care of Harriet.

Great book overall!

I received an advance reader copy of this book from the author and these are my honest opinions.

A huge thank you to Jen for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review! I love being a part of your ARC team!

At first, I was scared I would dive into this and remember no one and nothing from the first two books bc of how fast I binge read them but it was so easy to get into the groove of things and just enjoy being back in this version of NYC that Jen has made. Being back with these characters I’ve loved gave me so much happiness and I loved seeing what they’ve been up to after the events of the last books but ofc, the main leads and their story was just as interesting!

I think it’s safe to say that Harriet might be my most fave lead bc of how much I saw myself in her. From being fellow bookworm and nerd to being teased as not adventurous enough, I connected so much with her. She gave me this sense of bravery and confidence in myself that it’s not too late for girls like us to have adventures of their own but there’s also nothing wrong with escaping to our fave fictional worlds every now and then. I also related to her another way but it’s spoilery (also, make sure to check the content warning!)

Then we have Luke. I keep saying this but Jen’s male leads are all so perfect, can I just have one of each? He just ticks all the boxes for me! He’s sweet, lovable, financially capable 🤪 and his line of work: VIDEO GAMES. Just the idea of being able to openly geek out over the nerdiest things with the hottest guy is a dream come true! Not to mention, he owns a super cute turtle named after a Ninja Turtle!

Their romance was everything! From their panty melting meet cute that had this book starting off with a bang (literally) to them slowly realizing just how perfect they were for each other, I was swooning all throughout! I also liked the hint of forbidden romance they had with the hiding and secrets as it added a more scandalous, exhilarating feel to their every interaction. Their banter and chemistry was so good! The smut was spicyyyyy! 🥵 I also just loved how this highlighted sex positivity from how openly comfortable everyone was talking about their experiences and relationships.

After meeting Alex in the first book and knowing about Harriet, I was curious about their relationship ever since so it was nice to finally see more of the sisterly bond they have in this book! It was so wholesome and you could see just how much they loved each other.

As for heavier themes talked about in this book involving family, it was so heartbreakingly relatable to see both leads struggle with the idea of living up to their parent’s expectations even at the age they are on. Towards the end, they gave me the reassurance I needed that sometimes, all I need to trust is myself despite what they might think.

Overall, I loved this with all my heart as I always do with Jen’s books. This almost felt like a love letter not only to romance lovers but to bookworms, gamers and all the nerds in general! Harriet and Luke’s story was everything I needed.

If you love NYC romcoms with heartfelt, swoon-worthy stories, fun characters and laugh out loud moments, then I highly recommend getting into Jen’s Love in the City series! This is the third book in that series but can be read as a standalone though there will spoilers and mentions of the previous stories.

Chapter 4, people. CHAPTER. FOUR. I have no words. *fans self* Let's carry on with my review.

Harriet never takes any risks and doesn't dare go after her dreams. But when her sister is getting married in the U.S. Harriet gets a little drunk to help get over her fear of flying and ends up next to another nervous flyer on the plane. And—SWEET BABY JESUS—that plane ride will stay seared in your brain forever (in the best way possible! 😉).

Luke is such a wonderful male lead. He is sensitive and sweet, but also wildly sexy. I loved seeing his character grow after a bad relationship. The chemistry between Harriet and Luke is SCORCHING 🔥! Having read the first two books in this series I am freaking delighted that OUTRAGEOUSLY IN LOVE seriously upped the steam level and I. AM. HERE. FOR. IT.

These two have nerdy sides to their personalities that I adored. Nerds (like myself) will love the many geeky references in this book! I mean...who WOULDN'T be turned on at your date quoting Star Wars?

I took off just half a star because this series (and this book) has conflicts predominantly surrounding Mean Girls. I would love a change up of conflict in the different books.

OUTRAGEOUSLY IN LOVE is a sweet, swoony, and seriously steamy Romantic Comedy that is a must read this Fall! Luke and Harriet will give you all the feels! This is a story of creating the life you want, facing your fears, and finding your person. You will LOVE IT!

RATING:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
STEAM LEVEL: Rated R

Just....No

There were so many things that should have made me love this story. Gaming, books, nerdy fun, weddings, etc. I loved the quotes from Star Wars and yes, the sec was spicy af. BUT.....
The man was married! That's a HUGE NO for me. Yes, he was getting divorced, but that does NOT make it okay! I'm proud of Harriet for waiting until the divorce was final to take any more steps with Luke but ..... damn.
Even after the divorce the selfish bastard wanted to keep her a secret, for really dumb reasons if we are being honest!
But let's pretend all that is okay. She was changing him, he was making her take chances. That part was good. The wedding was coming up, thought he'd own up to it but...NOPE.
When Alex finds out and slut shames her sister for being a home wrecker, does he defend her? No! He let's everyone think the worst of her. Making her feel shame and get hurt so she leaves. Does he apologize? Again, nope. He has to he pushed to do it from Michael after he finally spills the truth.
And after ALL THAT, poor Harriet is left feeling like SHE wasn't there for HIM?! Ugh, it took everything in me not to throw my Kindle across the room lol
So yeah....series is getting worse and worse for me, darn. Why did Luke have to be such a cowardly ass? 😭

So fucking gooood! I love me some grumpy hero with a soft side for his heroine, and only his heroine, but good grief I never knew how much I've been missing out on cinnamon roll heroes with a naughty streak. He's so awkward and cute and nerdy and just SWOOOOON-WORTHY!

Summary

Harriet is the total opposite of wild and adventurous. Her likes and comfort-zone are simple; reading, board games, staying home, and avoiding big crowds.
While out with friends, she realizes that everyone around her thinks she’s this boring woman wasting away her life. So on a whim, to prove to everyone she can be brave, she decides to catch a flight from New Zealand to New York to be her sister’s maid of honor.
Harriet decides to try and be a little bolder, a little more adventurous. And so, Harriet 2.0 was created. First, it was the lipstick she was given as a farewell present; red and bold. And second, was to use another one of her going-away presents; the condom tucked in her bra. It started out as a little white lie to a stranger she never thought she’d see again, a comforting hand to help him calm down, and then the one thing she’d never experienced before; the big-O. An explosive and unforgettable one at that. Disappointed that he left with just a note explaining the complicated situation he’s in, she never expected to see him again. So what’s a girl to do when the stranger from the plane turns up for dinner at her sister’s apartment?

Review

The plot was terrific, the writing flowed well, and the characters were top-notch. At least, the main characters were. Everyone else, I wanted to smack on behalf of Harriet.

I’m usually a big fan of the grumpy heroes with a super soft side for their heroine, and their heroine only, but this book made me realize how much I’ve been missing out on cinnamon roll heroes. Specifically awkward and nerdy cinnamon rolls with a naughty streak.

It was such an interesting book to read, especially concerning the relationships between the characters, and it definitely made me pause and think if that’s even something that would concern me in real life. Honest answer? It would probably take me a few minutes.

I personally have no experience with bullying, but reading it from Harriet’s perspective made me really anxious, and I cannot imagine having to go through something like that. But Harriet was such an amazing character, so brave, and so strong.

I really loved the bond/connection between Harriet and Luke, how much they had in common, and how easily they got along (maybe a little too well, if you catch my drift). And the familial relationships aspect in this book was also done so well. But I won’t lie, it did make me somewhat anxious. Speaking of which, I thought the conflict percentage was at 65% or so, and I was having a hard time continuing. But as soon as I realized that it was just a little ‘jumpscare’, I picked up right where I left (because seriously, why would the conflict percentage start before 70%?). And of course, the actual conflict was so, so good! I loved the scenes leading up to it, and the actual conflict scene itself. If there’s one thing that could’ve made this so much better and much more angsty, would be if they had added in Luke’s POV, maybe for that scene only. I felt like that was a missed opportunity, to not add in the conflict resolution (on Luke’s side/his issues/situation).

Let’s start with Harriet, sweet, sweet Harriet who deserves so much better. I’m honestly having mixed feelings about all of her friends and family members, truly. Every time they mentioned, especially in front of Harri, how much of a homebody and non-adventurous person Harriet is, I wanted to jump in to both comfort her and slap all the other characters silly. It’s honestly no wonder she never tried to be more adventurous. I certainly wouldn’t believe in myself with people like that surrounding me. But Harriet’s character growth is to be proud of. Truly proud of. I felt like a momma-bird every time she went and did something that’s out of her comfort zone, and I felt even more protective over her when the blow-up happened at the conflict percentage (a term you’re probably familiar with if you’ve read a few of my reviews). Harriet deserves the world, and I hope Luke is capable of providing that for her.

And now my favorite character in the entire Jen Morris universe (for now maybe?), my sweet baby Luke. Oh Luke. Luke is honestly one of the best man I’ve read about so far. He’s such a sweet, gentle, and caring person. He’s also so adorably awkward, a complete and utter nerd/dork, so considerate and thoughtful, and so supportive and encouraging of Harriet’s dreams. He went beyond what was expected, just because he wanted to, just because he believed in her and only wanted her to be happy. If that’s not the sweetest and most romantic thing ever…Did I mention he’s a huge nerd? The biggest most adorable one there is, and all wrapped up as Man-candy. Again, Luke is by far one of the best heroes I’ve come across, and I would gladly catch a bullet for him. Luke, too, deserves the world. And I believe with all my heart, that these two can and will be able to provide the best of the best for each other.

I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I got to read an arc of Outrageously in Love. I really enjoyed the first two books in this series so I was super excited to get an arc of this book! I loved reading Harriet's story. Specifically, I enjoyed how much self-discovery there was for the heroine. She evolves and changes a lot throughout the story as she pushes herself to try new things. This book does the "we met as a one night stand but now it turns out we have to spend time together" trope really well! I laughed so much when I found out how Harriet and Luke would have met, if not for the initial plane ride. This book is perfect for fans of Sex and the City or other romances set in NYC like the Central Park Pact series by Lauren Layne. This book has lots of fun cameos from the other books in this series. The perfect summer of this book: an explosive love story between two absolute nerds who have explosive chemistry!

Jen Morris is always out to surprise me. Her books keep getting better but her style and essence remains the same. This superb work of art, this gift to all romance readers and to us ─her fans, is proof of that.

"I'm not imagining this, am I? This thing between us?"

My heart kicks and I swallow hard. "No, you're not."

"And we..." he glances along the bridge, "we shouldn't act on it, right?"

I give a humorless laugh. "Are you asking me or telling me?"

"I─" He wipes a hand down his face, looking pained. "Ugh! I don't know!"

Jen Morris is one of my favorites, she's a true Romance Storyteller and holds the magic potion for a perfect rom-com: She always gives me a heroine I can relate to or look up to with an inspiring journey and a hero who will help her fall in love with herself before making her fall in love with him. Luke and Harriet? well... damn! She gave me all these feelings on steroids! I am not only obsessed with them, I don't think I have gotten over it since I read it the first time (today, marks time number 4, Jen doesn't know it, but yes, I've read it several times).

Luke and Harriet are the couple every Romance Bookworm is craving to read and Outrageously in Love is Jen's best work yet.

Harriet is the most relatable character for me, I loved every second of her inner dialogue because that's exactly the way my mind works. Her journey through the book was a beautiful self-discovery quest and Harriet 2.0 wasn't the new version she thought she was creating for herself, but the confidence and inner adventurer she thought she didn't have in her! She was brave, she was determined and everything she thought she was lacking. She grew so much throughout the book and the result at the end was a beautiful and empowered woman who was convinced of her worth and what she was capable of!

I struggle with most of the books with single POVs, but Jen Morris has this way to describe her heroes through the eyes of the heroine that makes me not need their POV at all. Luke wasn't the exception. I fell in love with Luke so hard! (won't fight Harriet for him, though!) This man was a dream, the epitome of bookboyfriends! He was a sack of insecurities, fears and anxiety trapped in a box of complete sexiness and hotness! I loved how inspired he was by Harriet, it was her who made him discovered the power in him to overcome his insecurities and uncover his confidence and the worth of every effort he'd made and every passion he pursued. She was exactly what he needed to keep going. He understood her 100% and that's why he felt the need to support her and encourage her to follow her dreams (which was absolutely swoony).

They found in each other the right person! All they had in common, the incredible moments they shared because they just got each other's quirks and references. They were able to enjoy what they have always been passionate about to another level because now they had someone to share them with. That connection was the sweetest thing in the world. I felt myself fluttering and floating around my room the entire time.

Their connection was simply unique, special and wholesome.

The spice and steam of this book? Oh my goodness! You're in for the time of your life! Without a doubt this is one of the most empowering, sexy and delightful steamy reads I've ever enjoyed! Luke and Harriet went above and beyond! They discovered a new level of human connection that was so palpable in the pages. Every time I thought it couldn't get any hotter or more intense, bam! they surprised me again, not only with their incredibly flammable chemistry, but the deeply emotional bond they formed every time they were intimate. I swear it was so good, so beautiful that I felt sad when it was over.

They learned so much together and from each other. The element of forbidden romance was so intriguing and full of anticipation because from the very start, I was 100% convinced they knew they belonged together and their way towards finally achieving was an addictive rush I couldn't (and still can't) get enough of.

Shout out to all amazing side characters who (as always) make Jen's stories so wonderful! Especially and always in my heart to my beloved Geoff! I sincerely hope everyone finds a loyal and selfless friend like him. I'm still looking for mine.

This wasn't just a steamy rom-com. This was a journey, a goal, an empowering message of how to believe in ourselves, what true courage is and why we are deserving of a love who can bring it out from us.

I have not words to thank Jen Morris for the amazing honor of allowing me to beta-read for this book and for gifting me an early review copy.

Outrageously in Love is my first book from Jen Morris and I had so much fun reading it.
This book is about Harriet who after realizing that she had lived her whole life in a bubble and done nothing outrageous in life decides to change that. She decides to go to New York to her sister's wedding and create an alter ego Harriet 2.0. Harriet is terrified of flying and on the flight to New York she literally falls onto the lap of a handsome stranger. After a couple of whiskeys and a lot of chat, Harriet does something completely outrageous. She joins the mile high club with the handsome stranger.
She soon discovers that the handsome stranger is, in fact, the best man and Michael’s (the grooms) brother, Luke.
This was a fun read. Harriet and Luke were perfect for each other. They were nerdy together, brave together and got each other so much. Luke saw and loved the real Harriet and not her alter ego. Harriet made Luke realize that he should not feel guilty for not being the person certain people in his life want him to be. The subjects of bullying, anxiety and panic attacks are all covered in this book and are done with excellent sensitivity.
A huge thanks to Jen Morris for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Updated review:

Seriously, this is probably my favorite book of the year! Harriet and Luke were the sweetest and nerdiest couple, and I really connected with both of the characters and some parts of the storyline.

Harriet is feeling like she’s lived a boring life and her friend convinces her to broaden her horizons when she’s in New York for her sisters wedding. She decides to challenge herself and be Harriet 2.0 and while she still stays true to herself, she does enjoy a lot of new experiences by challenging herself a bit. I loved that when she met Luke they both learned to branch out together and try some new things. Luke was the most supportive and totally hot nerd. I was so happy to see Harriet encourage Luke to be true to himself and embrace who he is and what he likes. I also adored that they played games together, and it made me want to enact game nights at my house.

This was my favorite in the series, and that’s saying something because I loved the first two books. The characters intertwine so well, and I’m so excited to see what else Jen has in store for us! I’m still patiently waiting for Cory’s story 😍

I loved this book so much!! Review to come later!

ugh this was so cute! I love Harriet and Luke.

I really hope the first two in the Love in the City series are as good as Outrageously in Love because I couldn't get enough of it.

Everything I adore about contemporary romance was present in this book. Relatable characters, secret love, laughs, emotion (I got eye burny at the end, you know that thing where the back of your eye burns right before you cry? yea that), lots of man swoon and some steam. That 80% mark hit me good and I felt appropriately gutted right before the feel goods.

If you like
- One Flight Stand (or so they thought)
- Nerds/Nerdy content (I loved the moments when one of them would recite a quote from their favourite book or movie and the other would realize how no one has ever appreciated that side of them before and how perfect they were for eachother - swoooon)
- Forbidden/Secret love (Lets get eachother out of our systems but NO ONE can find out about our lusty escapades)
- Forearm porn (self explanatory)
- Forced Proximity (that ol' 'Hey do you mind spending lots of time with this person you desperately need to stay away from because he unlocked sex hormones that you thought you didn't possess but he's completely off limits?' trope)
- John Stamos (...or Danny Tanner I guess)

Outrageously in Love is one of those books that if you were reading in public or with another person in the room they'd look at you and be like 'oh what just happened?' multiple times. I'm not even talking about spicy scenes (but damn, those were good too). I'm talking about those 'make you smile obnoxiously' and 'cringe out loud but in the best way' moments.

Luke is a dreamboat and has made his way into my book boyfriend RH. I love him. Harriet is awesome too and she has such a cool transformation. She starts off shy, bookish and cautious but in trying to prove people wrong about her she starts doing things out of character. She pretends to be a more confident, outgoing version of herself until that’s just who she becomes. The ultimate fake it til you make it.
I loved so many things about this book but by far my favourite moments were when Harriet's sister unwittingly reveals things to Luke that Harriet has said about him and the interactions between the two of them afterward are *chefs kiss* delightful.

If you're looking for a feel good, rom com with steam, this should do the trick.

*Thank you so much to author Jen Morris for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

"Outrageously in Love" is the 3rd book in her Love in the City series and dare I say, it may just be my favorite in the series to date. While I think it would be possible to read each book as a standalone, in order to get the best experience as a reader, I would recommend reading all three books because readers will understand how all of the characters relate to one another, especially when a lot of them pop up again in the other books.

For example, this book features Harriet, Alex's younger sister and the heroine of the first book in the series, and Luke, Michael's (the hero from book one and Alex's fiancé) brother. Harriet is known as being shy, reserved, and loves to read.

I found Harriet to be a super relatable character and at the beginning of the book, I felt a little weary that she was being teased for being an introvert who loves to read from someone who was supposed to her best friend and even a little bit from her family, but thankfully, her friend ended up being a really good friend and encouraged her to get out there while also loving her and supporting who Harriet was. I was scared it was going to turn into a game of cat and mouse where the friend would get jealous of Harriet once she started having more adventures, but again, that wasn't the case. Harriet decides to fly to New York for Alex's wedding to challenge herself out of her comfort zone and has an encounter with a stranger who turns out to be Alex's fiance's brother and best man.

I read this book in one sitting. It seriously gripped me. I loved how both Harriet and Luke were both nerds. There are sensitive topics covered in the book such as bullying, cutting, anxiety, panic attacks, difficult relationships with family, and family dysfunction and I think they were handled with care. Jen Morris is honestly becoming one of my favorite romance authors. I think I have liked each book increasingly more than the previous one and I look forward to reading more books in the series. I'm hoping the next book will feature Cat's brother. I am definitely grabbing a paperback copy for my bookshelf so it can join the other two books in the series currently sitting on my bookshelf.

Review & Book Tour ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outrageously in Love by Jen Morris
🐝
Harriet's nose in always stuck in a book, living thousands of adventures through them. After a drunken night, she realises that she hasn't lived through an adventure herself, so when her sister asks her to fly to New York, she sees it as her chance to become a bolder and more outgoing version of herself. Who knew this experiment would lead to a mile high club initiation? Only little problem, the tall sexy stranger is in New York, and completely off-limits. But, they just can't stay away, and with the clock on their fling running out they'll have to do the most outrageously thing of all: take a chance on love.
🐝
CW: Bullying, self-harm, panic attacks, divorce, unhealthy family relationship.
Also, virgin and introvert shaming and mentions of Harry Potter.
🐝
I loved how Harriet discovered a different part of herself in New York, how being away from everything she knows brought her real self forward, even if she thought she was becoming someone else. It's clear she was just finally free to be herself and be bold in her choices. I would have loved for someone, anybody but especially Luke to tell her exactly that: that she was enough, she didn't have to change to be loved, that she wasn't being another person, she just gave herself permission to be free. I loved how Luke and Harriet found a safe space with each other, to be themselves and feel valued and loved. During the book, Harriet was the main character and the point of view is solely on her. However, the ARC I preferred was Luke's. I loved his kindness, how he did what was best for him, while being so worried about hurting anyone else in his life. I loved how he un-learned the shame his family planted in him about his career goals, his passions and himself. I loved that throughout the book he worked so hard on himself, actively and with purpose. I loved how he put himself first and pursued his dream, its so brave and courageous, I loved him to pieces. I loved the difficult position Harriet was put in, and after re-reading certain passage, sneaky author Jen wrote some pretty foreboding clues about the major conflict of the book. It was really clever, and I liked that the judgement Harriet had previously, came back to bite her. I loved how, by the end, she truly decided to be bold and asked for help to realize her dream. Even if it was a tad unrealistic for her to do so, so quickly and on a waitress salary (one who just blew her savings to go to her sister's wedding), commercial real-estate in New York is more than though. But that's the magic of fiction, some elements don't really need to be a hundred percent accurate, and that's just fine by me.
🐝
I truly loved the story, however I want to say this. There was some major virgin and introvert shaming undertext. Little comments, little thoughts that are omnipresent in the book and come back throughout. There is already shame, and prejudice against virginity, especially for women. Even on Romancelandia it can be felt. How many posts and comments I've seen celebrating male virginity, but when the women is, it's not loved anymore, it's not awed, it's a nuisance, it's unrealistic, etc. Many of you will ask after reading this, was Harriet a virgin at the beginning of the book? No, she wasn't. She has had sex before, not lots and not wild sex. But, the fact that she "at least" wasn't a virgin, that made her more valuable, less pathetic in the eyes of her friends and herself. When she told the story of the now famous plane incident, Alex's friends thought she now was going to fit right in with them. Like she wouldn't have been otherwise?

I want to thank Jen Morris for making me part of her Virtual Book Tour and gifting me a digital advanced reader's copy. As always all thoughts and opinions are honest and my own.

A maid of honor determined to face her fears leaves her comfort zone by traveling to New York to be in her sister's wedding and finds a new side of herself.

Harriet is comfortable in her hometown in New Zealand. Last year, her older sister moved to New York City on a whim and made a new life there. Determined to get outside her comfort zone, Harriet decides to go to her sister's wedding. Harriet's best friend presents her with a challenge to be a new version of herself on this adventure giving her red lipstick and a condom.

Harriet's first trip flying is full of firsts, to include meeting an extremely handsome man in an embarrassing way. Once she finds her sister in NYC, Harriet is proud of herself and the fulfillment of taking on this new endeavor. As the wedding plans need tackling, Harriet takes over to help her sister. When her sister suggests she go to the groom's brother and best man, Luke, for help with planning, the situation between them is beyond awkward. As the days pass, Luke and Harriet can't deny their shared interests and attraction. Timing and fears of change loom over the two as they fall for each other.

A cute romance with a unique storyline. Some might find Luke's "complications" problematic in some minor way, but the author does a good job lining up the details. Luke and Harriet bring out the best in each other, to include quiet Harriet's wild side. These two share some scenes that make this story different and fun. Good HEA and don't forget to download the cute epilogue.

Single POV is the only drawback, but I do appreciate the epilogue from Luke's POV.

Jen Morris never freaking disappoints! Jen, thank you so much for allowing me to apart of your ARC team!

I've been in a reading slump for the past couple weeks, so it took me longer than I would have liked to finally pick up this book. But when I did, I DEVOURED it within 48 hours!

The chemistry between Harriet and Luke in this was sooooo good!! And I swear it's like Jen knows that my weakness is using "baby" as a term of endearment 😭 Throughout the book, I felt like I could somewhat see myself in Harriet in the way that she carried herself and also in the way that she reacted to some things. I've always seen myself as "boring" and I've always struggled with my anxiety and it has kept me from doing things that I would love to actually do. Seeing those things in a female main character really hit home and resonated with me. Maybe I just need to hop on an airplane to New York and hopefully fall into the lap of my very own Luke 👀😂

The characters, the chemistry, the spice! All of these things blew me out of the water and I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for their next romance read!

Outrageously in Love follows Harriet who realizes that’s she’s tired of living a reserved, quiet, and cautious life. She wants adventure and what better way than to reinvent herself for a trip to NYC for her sister’s wedding, Harriet 2.0. She believes she has found a quick adventure with Luke, who she’ll never see again, until she finds out that Luke is the best man at her sister’s wedding.

I loved Luke and Harriet’s chemistry and their constant battle with their attraction. I also appreciate how Jen Morris handles anxiety and panic attacks in this story. The writing is wonderful and with a descriptive NYC setting. I also love the amazing side characters and can’t wait to read more.

Outrageously in Love is a heartfelt, steamy, romantic comedy that has a swoon-worthy, nerd and so much character growth. Outrageously in Love is also book three in the Love in the City series, but can definitely be read as a standalone.

4.5*

Outrageously in Love is the third book in the Love in the City series by Jen Morris. It's about Harriet, Alex's sister, and Luke. You can read each book as a standalone but you will get spoilers on previous books. I think this one might be my favorite, one because I related a lot to the MC, and two because it was way more steamier than the other books. Luke is also pretty dreamy and nerdy, which is a big plus for me! Also perfect if you love books centered around weddings.

TW: anxiety, self harm (only discussed, happened in the past), divorce, intimidation

Although I received a free ebook copy, this review is honest and entirely my own.

“You can be your own kind of brave, even when things are scary.”

I’ve had the immense pleasure of being an ARC reader for Jen’s entire Love in the City Series thus far, and let me just say, these books keep getting better and better! She always manages to find new ways to one up herself and tell such funny yet sweet love stories!

Like it’s two predecessors, Outrageously in Love is both a hilarious and relatable rom-com, while also being a beautiful love letter to New York City. I loved getting to witness Harriet fall in love with Luke, while simultaneously falling in love with the city.

More of What I Loved:
✨Fandom / Nerdy Love - This book is truly nerdy in the best possible way! Throughout the book, Harriet and Luke bond over all things nerdy - from their love of similar books to Star Wars and video games. I adored how much they had in common and how their shared love of all things nerdy brought them closer together!

✨Wedding Shenanigans - I will forever be a sucker for a romance that involves wedding planning / a romance that has a wedding at its center, while other people fall in love leading up to it. This book has that in spades and I was so here for it! 👏

✨Anxiety Rep - While Jen incorporates several heavier topics into this installment of the series, Harriet’s anxiety was the one that stood out the most for me. Jen did a fantastic job with this rep and really handled the topic with a great deal of care (which can also be said for how she handled all the other heavier topics in the book too). I loved how real both Harriet and her struggles, always felt.

If you’re a fan of rom-coms that have steam, laughs and romance in equal measure, this is your sign to check out Jen’s Love in the City Series! The books can be read as standalones, but the pay off is better when you read them in order.

Thank you to Jen Morris for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I absolutely adored Harriet and Luke’s story!

Charming, steamy and sweet, this forbidden romance was so much fun to watch blossom into a beautiful love story, along with Harriet’s character development into an outrageously sexy, independent woman.

Fans of NY rom-coms will fall in love with Jen Morris’s Love in the City series. Highly recommend!

I sat on this review for a few days because I feel so torn. I think Jen is great; I follow her on Instagram and she's so engaging and friendly, which makes me want to love her books so badly. This book was triggering for me personally though. I know others who don't have the same issue will love it because just like Jen is as a person, her writing is also an engaging and immersive experience.
I don't want to say much in regards to spoilers but I do need to explain why I struggled so much. Cheating in any and all forms really doesn't sit well with me. I didn't love the concept that Harriet needed to exhibit different behaviors and pretend in order to be happy without also loving herself for who she is.
This nerdy couple and the references to video games, board games, Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc were fun for me. The supporting cast from previous books are some of my favorites to revisit.
I am all ears and eyes for book four. I love so much that we'll get to see a character take the lead that I really want to see more of. I ship them hard. ;)
Thanks to the author for the e-arc. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Oh my goddd my nerd heart is so happy!

“I guess there’s an element of escapism. For a few hours you’re in another world, not thinking about your own life. Plus, it’s like a tiny universe that I can manipulate and control. I can use strategy, take risks and explore various outcomes without worrying too much about how it will end.”

A huge shout out and thank you to the author, Jen Morris, for giving me this opportunity to read and review an early copy of her new release! This book needs to be on everyone in the romance community’s radar.

I couldn’t breathe just waiting for these two to finally get together because their chemistry was off the charts. Together, they are each a half of the same heart, so basically a perfect match. And they are goth Hufflepuffs!!! I am also a Hufflepuff and get so excited when I hear or meet (even if they’re fictional) people who identify as Hufflepuffs because it’s not a common house. Plus the Harry Potter quotes!

A board game cafe?! Sign me up! No one ever plays board games anymore and it makes me sad because they are so fun… that was a staple of my childhood. (Clue and Life were always my favorites).

I have never identified more with a character than I did with Harriet. She’s awkward, nerdy, and loves books. She’s also a red head, like me! She also hates crowds and has anxiety. Talk about a relatable and realistic character! And she gets her own romance? I love that representation - that you don’t have to be this perfect person in order to obtain your own happily ever after.

At first, I was a little skeptical of Luke, not gonna lie. He seemed sex crazed to me and that was all he wanted from Harriet, but I will say I was quickly (and gladly) proven wrong as the book progressed. Especially how he treated her and cared for her with her anxiety.

This book was so good and one that will absolutely stick with me. I can’t wait to add this to my collection! I have such a book hangover right now!

T/W: anxiety, self harm,

“This is one of the worst parts of having anxiety. In the moment the panic feels so real, but others don’t see it like that. They just see you losing your shit, and then looking stupid after everything you worried about turns out to be fine.”
