This series just keeps getting better and better! 😍

I almost don’t want to start book 3 because I’m not ready for this to end but I’m also dying to know what happens next!

If you have not read book one in this series, Extinction Island, do so now. The premise of sending death row inmates to an island populated with dinosaurs is enough to draw anyone in. The first book was awesome and I was so excited to read book two. Well, I have and it was equally as amazing. Add to the prisoners and some bad to the bone dinosaurs, including Red Grizzly and Demon Dragon, then throw in some genetically altered people with incredibly odd powers, and all but the dinosaurs are running from someone or other, and you have an action packed, heart pounding tale that you won't soon forget. Then there's the cliffhanger making you nearly drool for book three. Janice Boekhoff knows her stuff, that I can tell you. Now I have to wait for the next one! Bravo!

My thanks to the publisher and author for a copy of this book. I was not pressured to leave a positive review. The opinion here is entirely my own.

In the second book in the Jurassic Judgement series it picks up immediately where the cliff hanger from book 1 left off. It veered a little bit away from the romance storyline that was prevalent in book one to go more in depth furthering the back stories of the characters, but it definitely still had the romance storyline and love triangle from book one. The cover, name, and writing kept really well with the theme of the series that’s been established and there’s a book three that is supposed to be coming out I assume in 2022 based on when book 1 and 2 came out and I really can’t wait because book 2 ended on another cliff hanger. I started reading this series kind of on accident but I’m glad I did, except now I have to wait for the third book to see what happens!

Not impressive. Too much repetition. Dwells on and on about minor happenings (we need to discuss "the kiss", "we haven't discussed "the kiss", on "the kiss" was nothing but boring. Your choices of character names border on ridiculous. When I read the first book it was okay and I moved on to the second book......well

I won't be reading the third one. Normally I enjoy a good science fiction read but find three of them is too much, especially as written.

Do you enjoy reading Sci-Fi?

Does imagining dinosaurs walking the earth during modern times get your blood pumping?

Then Deception Island: Jurassic Judgement Book 2 by Janice Boekhoff is a must read for you!
One of the books in the series was either a Carol or a Christy Award Finalist. More than one might have, but I just happened to see the awards finalist list where one of them was listed.

Important characters:

Oakley- Reptile expert wrongly convicted for her best friend’s murder, Oakley, chose to be banished to the prison island where the reproduced dinosaurs had been sequestered. On the island, she realizes electrical currents surge through her body when her adrenaline rises. The island holds clues to the origin of her power and the person who framed her for murder. The island is a dangerous place. Will her headstrong desire for answers be the death of her and/or those who try to help her?

Kaleo-Heartthrob Kaleo ended up as a prisoner on the island as a result of his involvement with the wrong people in his youth. With the influence of the missionary on the island, Kaleo surrendered his life to Christ, and truly repented. Now, he pretends to be a heartless gang leader while in actuality, he looks out for and protects island prisoners from each other. He has fallen for Oakley, and assists her in her quest for answers. Even though he loves her, he wants to prove her innocence to get her released from the dangerous island. He would rather she live safely without him than with him on the deadly island.

Cane-A Christian minister who voluntarily came to the island. He has a hidden cave where converted convicts can reside. He has a power to give off toxic gas when his adrenaline surges. He and Oakley seem connected through their altered DNA. Cane assists Oakley on her quest to find answers about the origin of her power, but he is not as interested in answers for himself. He is also attracted to Oakley, but knows that she has feelings for his friend Kaleo. Oakley senses that Cane is keeping a secret, but she does not press him regarding her suspicion.

Author Janice Boekhoff has created a fast-paced page turner!

“Deception Island” is the second instalment in Janice Boekhoff’s “Jurassic Judgement” adventure sci-fi dystopian series. A brand-new take on both ‘genetic species- reincarnation’ and ‘legal punishment’ tropes.

Oakley Laveau is trying to survive on Extinction Island, were she were sent after her conviction for a murder she didn’t commit, still none the wiser about why her own mother would wish to have her killed. The answer might have been hidden in her own dreams, and linked to her enhanced DNA, but to be able to find the truth Oakley must have to leave the Island, risking to been executed for good. Not that expedited execution seems worse that a lifelong of trying to survive the numerous dangers of the Island. When Oakley finally flees the Island only to find herself into the research lab that can become even deadlier than any dinosaurs, she would even encounter.

This is a fantastic series, thrilling, action-paced, original, well-written and highly entertaining, which could easily be turned into a movie (or TV series) script. Dinosaurs, who doesn’t love dinosaurs? Well, you might like to address the convicts about that 😉. The narrative is flawless, the world-building carefully done, highly visual, the characters tridimensional with unexpected facets. Boekhoff manages with ease to bring the reader along to fight both the dinosaurs and the system, which is in fact the real evil. This is an intelligent adventure thriller, that mixes political critique, social discourse and action fantasy into an enjoyable narrative that manages to intermix real world critique into the action, without at any time diminishing the entertainment value of the story.

On reading the blurb about this novel, I was quickly enthused of a story involving dinosaurs and manipulation of medical science to create unnatural creatures and humans. I hadn’t read the first in the series but didn’t feel at a disadvantage as the author provides a quick snapshot and reintroduced the main combatants early in the piece, so I quickly caught up.

There’s lots of action that keeps you turning pages and the author keeps you on your toes as there are multiple antagonists, both human and Jurassic, so you never feel comfortable that danger isn’t far away. The cast of characters are well developed, and the emotions are well described and felt. I particularly liked Oakley and Cane. The bad guys are bad especially Lumas Verret who is pulling the strings of his creations to create a superior race of assassins. For what purpose, I’m not so sure but perhaps all will be revealed in book three.

The way our heroes escaped Demon Dragon and Red Grizzly at times appeared a little far-fetched, but I guess an author is allowed such licence. The dinosaurs were well described and were sufficiently scary and unpredictable which adds to the drama and tension.

The book ends really as a chapter break and it was a little frustrating knowing the next instalment is yet to be available. I tend to think unless you have the next one ready for the reader it’s best to have at least a ‘soft close’ to the story allowing for continuity in the saga, but nothing got resolved in this one and we have everything to look forward to in book three.

Wow! If you like a book with heart pounding suspense this is the book for you! Oakley was Sent to Extinction Island for supposedly killing her best friend. But the truth of the reason she is there and all of the things that happen to her are huge secrets that you will never guess! I'm the previous book we were introduced to a lot of the people on the Island and why they are there. I'm this book we meet some new people, including FBI agents and a couple of Dr.s sent to the Island to find Oakley. We learn so much background of the truth in this book you don't want to miss it! I totally enjoyed it and at about 60% I couldn't put it down for a minute. So many things had come to light and so much action was happening that I just had to read on. I will be honest enough to say that this book does end with a lot of questions unanswered,, so we do have to wait for the next book. I'm not a fan of books that end on a cliffhanger but I'm too invested in the story to stop now. Can't wait for the next book!
I received a free download of this book from the publisher. This review is totally my own honest opinio

This book is the second in the Jurassic Jusgement series and it is even better than the first book in the series. The characters and scenery come alive. The action is nonstop. The plot has so many twists that you may find yourself rereading sections just to keep up with the intrigue, but so engrossed in the story that you don’t want to take the time to review a complex detail. This book is for the reader who enjoys a good thriller imbedded within in a very complex plot presented on an amazing and creative canvas. Janice has an amazing talent to weave stories in beautiful descriptive words. I am also amazed how Janice captures the complexity of humanity in her characters, the decisions that change our lives, and the morals that are in our hearts trying to guide us in a lost culture.

Wow! So good! This one is better than the first. In this book, Oakley and Cane escape the island to find Lumas, the owner of the company that created them and their powers. Lumas tells them that he is searching for a specific woman who is probably on the island. Oakley and Cane return to the island, where even more action occurs. I loved this book more than the first. It doesn’t get more action-packed than this! There is significantly more dinosaur action, as well as more non-dinosaur action. Bravo to Janice Boekhoff! Side note: Janice Boekhoff is the kindest person of all time! Especially to fans! Can't wait to read the third and final book of this series, and I'm also excited to read Twenty-One Kills! This book is easily 5 stars!

Deception Island is Book 2 in the Jurassic Judgement Series by Janice Borkhoff. When book 1 is so outstanding, can book 2 be as good? In a word, YES! Deception Island is fast paced excitement. Oakley and Cane go back to the lab for answers, they find some. Chubs from book 1 shows up and causes do many problems. If that is not enough excitement, the FBI is on the Island and looking for Oakley. When Cane and Oakley return to the island, they find Penna Gallardo from the lab. Of course, there are so many dinosaurs everyone must escape from. Janice Borkhoff has written a fabulously powerful sequel. I can’t wait to read book 3. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

Very exciting!

I was definitely not disappointed with this second book in the Jurassic Judgement series. It was extremely suspenseful. The story was a continuation from the first book so I had already connected with the characters. Even the villains were so interesting. I was always hoping for the safety and success of the good ones and kind of wishing for the demise of the bad ones. The science fiction aspects of the story continue to be intriguing. The way the story was written really made me feel like I was in the jungle with these horrifying creatures. Again, this is really an edge of your seat, stay up too late to read kind of story. I cannot wait for the third book. I'm hoping I won't have to wait too long but it will be worth it if I do.

I just love the premise. Dinosaurs are brought back to life and then put on a created island. To pay for the cost of building the island, transport and care, prisoners who receive the death sentence have a choice: die immediately or go to this island and try to survive. The protagonist, who learns that she was subjected to genetic modification, was wrongly accused of murder and sent to this island. She makes allies and tries to discover what is going on with the ongoing, illegal experiments. Lots of scary dinos, chases, fights, and bad guys. An entertaining novel for sure. A good story, decent but somewhat flat characters and this second of the series ends on a cliffhanger.

WOW!
Just so you know, this is the second in a series. A good series, but you'll want to read Extinction Island first.
These books keep you from wanting to put them down. I've never seen myself wrapped up in this kind of book, but this series holds on to you.
The characters become real. Your heart is cheering for the good guys and hoping the worst for the bad guys and killer dinasaurs.
Good reading!

While Oakley Laveau is trying to survive on Extinction Island, not only are the dinosaurs the enemy, but she has to battle the convicts and run from the FBI as well. Very action- packed, thrilling, lots of decisions to make at every turn. If you like Sci-Fi, you will love this very adventurous, well written book by Boekhoff! Book 3, who will set Oakley free…who will win her heart?

Deception Island

This book was almost as good as the last one and makes me really anticipate the 3rd one in series. Lots of action and several stories within the story due to great character development. Nicely written and I recommend it for all Dino fiction lovers, especially with there not being all that foul language. Just makes the book more enjoyable. Kudos.

Oakley with Canes help escapes the island to try to find the ones who created them. When they return to the island not only dinosaurs, but FBI agents are after them too. And then it's continues to the next book. Which is why it only gets 3 stars.

Can't stop reading these books

I read both novels in 2 days! I got so wrapped up in the characters. Great job developing them. As the reader, you get really invested in their fears, passions, joys etc. And the powers they have is a great addition to the story. And who doesn't love a dinosaur story!?
