சுகுமாரன் கவிதைகள்

‘இருப்பிலிருந்து இன்மைக்கும், இன்மையில் இருந்து இருப்புக்கும்’ இடையில் யாத்திரை நிகழும் நெடுந்தெருவின் மோதல்களத்தில் சுகுமாரனை நாம் இடைவிடாமல் சந்திக்கின்றோம். வாழ்க்கை குறித்த அடிப்படைகளைக் கேள்விக்குள்ளாக்கும் ஒன்றோடொன்று முரண்பட்டுக்கொள்ளும் வெவ்வேறு கோணங்களிலிருந்து வாழ்க்கையைப் பரிசீலிக்கும் பலவித சித்தாந்தங்கள் அவர் கவிதைகளில் இடைவிடாமல் ஊடாடுகின்றன. அவை அவரது கவிதைகள் சிலவற்றில் கடவுளின் இறப்பைப் பிரகடனஞ் செய்ய, வேறு சிலவற்றில் ‘கடவுளைக்’ கடந்து உள்ளுறையும் ஒரு சித்தாகக் காண, இன்னும் சிலவற்றில் கடவுளை மலம் அள்ளுபவராக ஆக்கியுள்ளன. இந்த எந்தவொரு தனிச் சித்தாந்தக் கட்டுக்குள்ளும் சிக்காத, அவற்றை ஊடறுத்து அவர் செய்யும் யாத்திரைகள் அவரை ஒரு மெய்யான பயணியாகவும், ஒரு பரதேசிக்கான அடிப்படைகளைக் கொண்டவராகவும் ஆக்குகின்றன. ஆன்மீகம் என்பது சுயத்தை அதன் பல பரிமாணங்களிலும் புரிந்துகொள்ளும் பயணமாயின், சுகுமாரனின் கவித்துவ மூலத்தை ஆன்மீகம் என்று உரைக்க விரும்புவேன்.

Sukumaran is among the most unique and important voices in Tamil poetry. This book is a complete collection of all the poems written by him, starting from his first poem in 1974 till 2019. He declares the death of God in one poem, calls God to toil along us in another, and he does all this without any contradictions. His poetry is a space where many ideologies talk to each other and question the basics of life. As Poet Pa. Akilan says, if Spirituality is a journey to understand the self in its many faces, Sukumaran’s poetic core can be called as spiritual.

About the author

Sukumaran (b. 1957) is a poet who writes primarily in Tamil and translates from English and Malayalam. His published translations include Gabriel García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude, Alessandro Barrico's Silk, Ayfer Tunc's Azizbe Incident, and One Hundred Selected Poems of Pablo Neruda. He has published six volumes of poems and six volumes of essays and articles in Tamil. He worked as editor for a Tamil weekly magazine and chief editor for a television channel in Malayalam, and is now the executive editor of Kalachuvadu, a Tamil monthly magazine. He lives in Thiruvananthapuram.
