He plays to win; only she changed the rules....

As Manchester Athletic’s record signing, I should be basking in the adoration of fans and enjoying the perks that come with the job.
Only that’s never been my style. I keep a low profile and stay focused on doing my job.
A chance one-night stand on my way back from the States is about as anonymous as I can make it. She had no idea who I was, and I was pretty sure she gave me a fake name too. No numbers were exchanged, and we headed back to our so-called ordinary lives.
The chance of a repeat should’ve been zero. Until we meet again in Manchester. Different names this time, but the same chemistry.
Two people escaping their realities in anonymous hotels.
It’s the perfect relationship until the media reveals our true identities to the world - and each other.

Hollywood Ball is the second standalone in the Manchester Athletic series. It’s a fake identity, insta-lust, jet set romance with a super geek soccer player and a super-sassy heroine.

I picked up the first book in this series just because, but I was already interested in what was going on with the hero in Hollywood Ball from that book and I had to find out more about him. Well, let me tell you Annie Dyer outdid herself with this book! It was smart, sexy, funny, refreshing, and a whole bunch of more adjectives I can’t think of at the moment. This couple meets in a hotel bar in Houston during a tropical storm, they are both from England, and that’s basically all they know about one another other than they are very compatible physically. No real names, no personal information, just pleasure until they depart again. Not going to lie, their time together was hot and it was all about the physical. The twist, they both are somewhat famous but have no idea who the other one is and there are reasons, but then they meet again in another hotel bar purely on accident, what are the odds?

Ryan O’Connell is a pro footballer and Ottilie (Otter) Penhaligon is an actress who is currently making a name for herself in a binge-worthy show on cable, she doesn’t follow sports and he’s a computer/math nerd who when he isn’t training or playing football is coding for the business he owns with a friend (former girlfriend). I loved these two because despite being high profile they were really down to earth and while they were somewhat different, they had so much in common.

They spend a few months meeting each other secretly to spend time together and yes, there is a purely physical relationship at the start. But then they begin texting, a phone call her or there, some s*xting and getting to know you questions. Learning about each other, missing one another, and always looking forward to when their schedules allow them to be together again. I adored the way this couple’s relationship came together; they had such hot chemistry from the start but the more time they spent together and the more they learned about one another the yearning came and it was fabulous.

Ryan knows he maybe has 4 more years of playing left and he’s making a plan for when he exits the game. He’s buying a house and property and he’s making sure it has everything he’ll need once he retires. Otter is very devoted to her career and she has goals she intends to see through. I loved her devotion to her craft but also that she was being smart about the types of roles she took. What I loved most was there was very little drama between these two. When photos were leaked of them they worked with it, when they knew they wouldn’t be able to see one another for quite some time, they were adults about it. When the press made up stories about them, they talked about it. I loved that they had this trust and respected each other enough to be honest throughout their relationship.

From the first page to the last, Hollywood Ball was simply a delight to read and I cannot wait for the next book in this fab series to drop!

Gosh I’m loving this series!!! I loved that both Ryan and Otter were their true selves with each other…with all the insecurities of a long distance relationship. Ryan’s teammates are the best!!! I’m looking forward to Nate’s book and I’m really hoping Jude gets a book too.

I loved this story, it was an interesting read. Both are well known in their spheres but don't know who the other is. Ryan is a great footballer who now plays for Manchester Athletic while Otter is known for her acting. The names they use for each other are fun. They slowly get to know each other over months and I liked how their relationship built slowly.

Ryan O'Connell is my book boyfriend catnip.

That is the gist of my review from a personal level. I'll get into the actual review of Ms. Dyer's book right after I say one last thing about Ryan.

Thatcher Kelly. You were my first gold standard Book Boyfriend. I Fluffing love you. You share that top spot with Ryan O'Connell now. Play nice. He's a math genius too.

Now really, on to the actual book that Ms. Dyer wrote.

There is so much I adored about this story. Ryan aside, his lady love Otter is someone I want to keep as a friend in real life. An actress who adores her job and her work, but like many women out there would just like to be seen as more than a pretty piece of fluff. She is working very hard on her goals. She is in this business for the long haul. She sees the ups and the downs. She completely understands that her work is all consuming of her time which isn't fair or right to a partner, as such, relationships are off the table. That's before she even gets to the tabloid and publicity nonsense that goes along with her work.

Otter has an incredibly plotted storyline. I adore Ms. Dyer for writing this character as one who is torn with figuring out how to make all of the pieces of her life work in a way that doesn't stop herself from achieving all of her own goals.
Otter isn't going to step back from her goals.
This isn't a woman who is sitting around waiting to see which script is coming in next. This is a woman who has a 5 year plan. Her eye is on certain career goals, allocates, and awards.
Yes, she IS waiting on scripts; but it isn't with bated breath. It is with the calculation and precision of woman fully in charge of her career. A woman who knows exactly how she wants her narrative to read.
There are fun pop culture references in Otter's story that I adore. The passing references to GoT as well as Bridgerton. The nods to famous plays in London's West End as well as America's Broadway. There's more, but it fits more in the middle of the story. Not just Otter's.
I also understood Otter's need to have something just for HER. I could understand how she was feeling a little too seen. A lot less herself. Yet when the time came for her identity to be known; she was incredibly vulnerable about it.
It's at that point the reader fully realizes that we've seen very little of Public Figure Otter. Only Otter with Ryan Otter. Otter with Ryan Otter is NOT one that the public has ever seen.
Stitching those two sides together into a full character and waiting to see how the other side of your heart is going to react is heart stuttering. Ms. Dyer wrote it perfectly. My heart was with both Ryan and Otter. Begging him to do right by her, and with her begging her to be strong.

Ryan. So, the catnip part. Ryan has a little bit of everything that I love in a guy. Honestly all he is missing is a tattoo or five. He doesn't need them, I just like a little bit of dirty bad boy on my serious geeks with an athletic turn. In real life, I enjoy intelligent and humorous people. In my reading life I fall in love with intelligent humorous people. Ryan has this in spades. As Ms. Dyer writes about Computer Geek Ryan I could perfectly visualize him in my head. A bit of a mash up between a few of my favorite EPL players, in torn jeans, a hoodie, and a laptop bag. Minus the EPL player thing, Ryan could have been any number of friends from college. Add in the "code is poetry" and you've really got me hooked. Add in the "I play a professional sport, but I approach it like science, yet my face says otherwise" and yeah. This book is going to stay in my rereads shelf for the forever times. Hence - Ryan sharing that throne of Book Boyfriend Gold Standard.
I enjoyed that Ryan didn't take himself so seriously all of the time, but I wished someone would give him a boot in the rear occasionally. Ryan needed to push a little more for what he wanted. Being easy going and trying to keep your life as even keel as possible is understandable. Some emotions though are worth cracking through that calm for. Some people are rare enough that you are morally obligated to upheave your life to tell them what they mean to you; regardless of what it may do to the overall picture of your lives.
This is actually the part where I stated to fall in love with Nate. Ms. Dyer wrote him a little bit of a bromance with Otter that DID provide Ryan with the boot in the rear. Everyone needs a Nate.

Ryan is the antithesis of the drama queen. If you are picturing the EPL with all of the diva dives; Ryan is not on that reel. If you are picturing the shows which highlight the most outrageous or noteworthy goals of the week, Ryan MAY be on those reels. Ryan is the model of collected, calculated, and under control. Which, again, is why I fell harder for him when Ms. Dyer wrote a quick little snip regarding an international player making comments to Ryan in World Cup qualifying play which lead to Ryan acting in an incredibly out of character on pitch way. Also - I felt that hit.

Here's the part where I go back to the fun pop culture references.
Ms. Dyer, having a book with both a footballer and an actress, could have parceled their story out in any number of ways.
Scenes, acts, halves, overages, season play, international breaks - the list is actually a little fun to think of.
What she chose to go with, is instead, more brilliant than anything I have noted above.
Ryan and Otter's story is told in the language of iconic television couples.

IT IS PERFECT.
Right down to the utilization of being on breaks.

For much of the story the reader gets to know Ryan and Otter as just -Ryan and Otter. When they are able to meet, it is just the two of them in a bubble. Their work lives don't exist. Their outside issues don't exist. It's just two people in a hotel room getting to know each other in varying levels of intimate ways.

Ryan and Otter have their own version of 20 questions. Given the transient feeling of their relationship at the start, they shorten this down to just five questions though. If you could only ask 5 intimately personal questions of the individual who is slowly becoming your lodestone - what would you ask? What would you not ask?
The questions these two exchange are eye opening. It made me question what I would actually want to know about a semi mysterious partner myself. It really makes a reader peel back and think - what's the most important to me?

As with all bubbles, Ryan and Otter's does eventually burst. That doesn't mean they break though. It does mean that they suddenly know more and see more of each other's lives. Which is also interesting to take in.
In some ways it put a screeching halt to the intimacies and trust they had been building up so quickly. Additionally some of the earlier forthcoming no truths left unsaid conversations became trickier for both of them in different ways. Again, a bit of magic by Ms. Dyer, highlighting how being a public person can suddenly color how you live as a private person.

I was really captured by how Ms. Dyer wrote the biggest piece of her plot.
That inevitable moment where both Ryan and Otter have very real and very full schedules.
I enjoyed that BOTH parties saw the value and worth that each career held for the other. It's very easy for some to dismiss professional sport or acting at any level as frivolous. Adding in the layer of Ryan's coding background, as well as, the rest of the backstory Ms. Dyer presents in this book; I was thrilled to read that asking Ryan to just stay with her was a frantic wish Otter had yet something that was never ever voiced. For Ryan, he never even questioned that Otter would have to keep her schedule as it was or that there would be more work to come. Nor did he ever question that she would stop her life or change her long term goals for him.

Their main problems came down to real world problems.
Communication.
Fear of being rejected or feeling more for their partner than is felt for them.
Fear of failing their partner.

Again, it was another way where Ms. Dyer was able to make these public figures, private people with the same problems we all face. Just with the added bonus of the media writing their own take on it. She wrote this section particularly well. Both sides showed vulnerability, yet both sides opened up and were honest with each other. Just took a little bit is all. And Nate.

As with all of her books, Ms. Dyer made me greatly miss England. I typically try to sit and read her Manchester Athletics books on weekends in between EPL games. Makes me feel as if I'm there with them all. This team is gaining in it's realness to me.

As with Rowan and Dee's book, we are teased with the next couple. As with Rowan and Dee's book, the next person to be targeted is featured in this book - if you guessed Nate .... you'd be correct.

And as with Rowan and Dee's book, Ryan and Otter left us with a massive teaser as for what is in store for Nate. Sort of.

Ryan and Otter though - again, the perfect ending.
Ryan made his 5 questions really count. He held back his last question for as long as he could. Mulled it over. And then asked it in the most unRyan yet Ryan like way possible.

This is the second book in the Manchester Athletics series. It can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. The timeline is concurrent, in part, with book one but neither book gives anything away. Hollywood Ball is written in first person from an alternating dual POV.
I was intrigued by Ryan in book one, but I fell hard for him in this book. Gah!!! I love a geeky hero. One who is also a professional athlete, has integrity, and exacting standards? Yes! Sign me up for that. I really love how well he manages whatever comes his way. His quiet confidence and commitment to the image he wants portrayed to the world was inspiring. I love his sense of adventure and the fun he has with Otter. Otter is sexy and confident in herself as well. Together they are a perfect match. The bedroom times are hot and fun. Their meet cute and the way their relationship begins is original, cute, and fun. As their relationship becomes more than a fling, I really enjoyed the friendship they form and the safety and trust they feel with each other. Their emotional connection together becomes a beautiful thing. Their relationship is complicated by their celebrity, and they have hurdles and distance to overcome. I appreciated that the book takes place over many months and that their love story was not instant. They needed to be slow and steady.
I enjoyed the insight into Otter’s job. I loved her practical acceptance of filming sometimes uncomfortable scenes. I also loved that they both understood the ambiguity of stories in the media and generally avoided what was written about each other. I loved that they rely on each other for truth; trusting each other more than strangers for what was real. I started this book at the end of a night shift. I continued reading after I got home (forgoing sleep since I couldn’t put it down) until my eyes refused to stay open any longer. I enjoyed this book immensely. There is humor, steamy heat, characters I loved completely, and a story that felt like it could be real. I loved Rowan and Dee, but Ryan and Otter are truly special to read.
I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.

“Hollywood Ball” is the second book in the series and I’m already ready for more from it. I love sports romances and having a soccer one based in England is amazing.

Ryan and Otillie, also known as Otter, meet one day when they are both stranded in Houston due to a tropical storm. Their attraction and chemistry is instant and they decide to ride out the storm. What was meant to be a one time thing and no names or numbers exchanged, quickly turns into something when they run into each other again.

I loved how their story started out as anonymous strangers who knew what to expect from each other. They were fine with their arrangement and never held it against each other. That added a different twist to the story especially when they find out who each other really is in the real world. Ryan is so sweet and I love that he has a geeky, computer nerd side to him. Otter was so much fun to read. She loved her job and wasn’t afraid to go after what she wanted. And all the little hints we get for future books has me anxiously waiting for any future books in the series.

Hollywood Ball
Manchester Athletic #2
Annie Dyer
Penny and Leonard, Mork and Mindy, Ross and Rachael, Ryan and Otter-all iconic couples.
Ryan, footballer and coding geek by choice, low key and quiet. Otter could be the life of the party and play her part. When these two meet in an airport, stranded in a tropical storm they don’t share their true names or identities. Fate plays with them in the best way.
With cameos from some famous lawyers, artists, a chef, an alpaca sighting and a rock star all familiar friends are covered! Ms Dyer is a master storyteller who always comes through with depth of characters and real emotions.
Love, love love this steamy contemporary sports romance set in England. It is the second book in the series with a crossover in timelines. However it could be read as a stand-alone novel with hea.
I can’t wait to head to Manchester Athletic again! As always I was left wanting more of these beautiful people.
I received an arc of this book.

I adored this story. It was so different from the normal athletes books. I’ve been waiting for this one since I originally met Ryan in another book by this author. He was mysterious then and he fulfilled his mission in this book as well. Otter was adorable. Getting to know these characters was the most fun!

I really don’t want to wreck the story for you because seriously the fun is in reading the story for yourself and discovering all the wonderful details. If you want the gist of it read the blurb. From there prepare yourself to become immersed in this out of the norm athletic romance.

The heat is off the charts but more than that it’s romantic, smart and adorable. One of my favorite parts are the chapter titles.

It was everything I wanted and more. I can’t wait to see where the next book in this series takes us!

I absolutely love a sports romance with the athlete also being a nerd, and let me tell Ryan is all that and more. Ryan will make you swoon. Then we have Otter, Miss Independent and going after what she wants. When these two meet and have one night, never did they imagine running into each again by chance. What started as a fun hook up starts to feel like more, then being outed by the media forces them to make decisions, Ryan and Otter have to figure things out. The chemistry is undeniable between these two, but will their current life goals and dreams ruin a future before it even happens or will these two be open to rewriting their dreams to include each other? Take a chance on these two because they will have you hooked and tugging at those heartstrings! Loved Hollywood Ball!

What happens when two people who are well-known in their own spheres, but don't have a clue about each other, meet in an airport and have an instant attraction? An anonymous hook-up. A one-off. Except, it's not...

This book hit the ground running! The connection between Ryan and Otter (to use their real names rather than the pop-culture pairings they variously hide behind) is immediate, real and HOT. Ryan is about as far from the Premiership footballer stereotype as you can get, completely uninterested in the celebrity circus that accompanies his career, and in Otter he meets a kindred spirit, putting their joint determination to steer clear of relationships under serious pressure. As ever with Annie Dyer's books, the world around the main characters is filled in with believable detail, and for those who have read her other series, there are several Easter eggs to spot. There are also a few intriguing hints about where this series is going next. If you're after a well-rounded, character-driven, steamy sports romance, this (and its predecessor in the series, Penalty Kiss) is highly recommended.

Being a HUGE football fan I am loving this series by Annie Dyer! A great read that is difficult to put down.

Ryan has just transferred to a new football team as he wants to prepare for when he retires from football, so he moves to Manchester Athletic.

Otter is a busy actress, and she is working towards her first big award, she knows it will be tough, but it has always been her dream and she is determined nothing will get in the way.

Both Ryan and Otter are concentrating on their careers, and have no room for a relationship. They meet one stormy night in a bar when their flights are delayed. A few nights together is all they promise each other, then their lives will carry on, or will fate step in and have other plans for them!

This is a really cute series. This book was my favorite so far… Two people meet in a bar don’t give their real names or real occupations but have an amazing time. A few months later they met up again and slowly they start revealing themselves to each other. As these two get to know each other they share an amazing connection and at the same time get to know themselves better. This was a quick read with a sweet story about slowly falling in love and finding out what you really want out of life. I love the banter between the teammates and I’m really enjoying this fun series. I’m already excited about the next book.

I was lucky enough to get an arc copy of this book.

I absolutely adore Ryan , & Otter’s story . I was completely hooked from beginning to end .

Two people , who’s jobs have them in the limelight, but both jobs are very different.
A chance meeting that changed both of them .
A hook-up , that becomes two, then three, until eventually it can no longer be called a hook-up .
Time spent apart only heightens their feeling for each other.
Falling in love is inevitable.

Such a brilliant must read

What a great story! This one is special! Ryan is my kind of hero, he’s such an amazing man. Heart eyes all over for him. Otter is equally amazing and she has an unusual job, which is an interesting part to the story. I don’t want to give away the story, but everything about this book is wonderful!

I loved Hollywood Ball! It was a nice celebrity romance with both a professional sports player and an actress that meet halfway across the world from their home. Otter and Ryan were adorable and I loved the themes of using pop culture couples throughout the book!

Their story was refreshing and fun in the beginning and I loved how their story played out. Ryan's interactions with his teammates make me excited for all the future books in this series.

I loved Otter's full name, Ottilie, it is a name I've never heard before and loved it instantly. Otter and Ryan's chemistry was off the charts and I enjoyed every moment of their book!

This book was extra, super hot! It’s Ryan and Otter’s story. He’s a footballer and she’s an actress. They meet by chance and neither recognizes the other. It’s a lot of fun and stolen nights for them, when they are lucky enough to get together. I like the fact he is a low key famous player and also a geek. She’s also a very private, low key actress and they are just perfect together. Their chemistry is off the charts and they are full of passion. I loved this story! I can’t wait for more books in this series!!

LOVED Ryan and Ottlie! Annie has knocked it out of the park again with Hollywood Ball the next book in her football series that I am loving!  I also love a strong, confident female character and Ottlie is one of the best ones i've ever read!

Ryan isn't your typical footballer, there is zero drama surrounding him, he isn't into limelight, likes a quiet life and is also a bit of a computer nerd! Ottlie is an in demand actress who everyone knows except it would seem Ryan!  The chemistry between these two from the very first time they meet is HOT, they have such an instant connection. I just loved everything about them even though there jobs both have a lot of drama these two are the least drama filled people you will ever meet!  I adored Ryan and Ottlie!  I also can't get enough of this group of players and their group chat and me laughing out loud and omg I think Jude might be new favourite! Also if you have read any of Annie's other books you may see some familiar faces appear!   Roll on Nate's story I can't wait!

Getting to know each other first!

Ryan O’Connell hadn’t planned for the tropical storm to delay his trip back to Manchester but meeting a gorgeous lady in the bar who has no idea who he was helped. They had both used fake names figuring out they would never met again even though they both lived in England. Bumping into each other changed that plan.

Hollywood Ball is different from the usual stories because Ryan O’Connell and actress Otter Penhaligon are famous in their own fields but have no idea about the other. I loved where they got to know each other without any preconceived idea of what the other person would be like before making it public in the gossip news.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author and Wildfire Marketing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

5 delicious stars! This story was super steamy 🔥, amusing and heartfelt. I adored Ryan and Otter. They were such a lovely couple. Fun, honest, and made for each other.

"It was probably the kiss at the end that got me. Maybe this was going to be more than just a hookup."

Two English strangers meet in a bar at an airport in Houston....Neither Ryan O'Connell nor Otter Penhaligon were in the right place for a relationship, although they were most definitely in the right place for a really hot hookup, especially when neither seemed to realise who the other was. When serendipity brings them back together, both know that they're not quite willing to let go of the other yet.

This was a fab read! It was hella steamy, but that was to be expected considering they were meeting up secretly to spend time together. However, they also spent plenty of time getting to know the other without the trappings of being famous. I adored their chemistry, their connection, the way they were comfortable with each other. They were not about all the drama - they were about growing feelings, missing each other, biding their time, and working towards being together. Just gorgeous and I was totally charmed by them. I also enjoyed the banter and camaraderie that Ryan had with his teammates and really looking forward to reading the next story, and catching up with the first book in this series.

4 star Review Hollywood Ball (Manchester Athletic #2) by Annie Dyer

Hollywood Ball is the second book in Annie Dyer’s latest Manchester Athletic series. It was an entertaining read that ticked a number of boxes fro me.

From the moment their eyes connected, sparks flew but knowing that it could only be a one night hook up, real names were not exchanged. However fate often works in mysterious ways and for Ryan O’Connell and Otillie aka Otter Penhaligon and they meet again a few months later.

This book was well written with characters that were engaging and whose story I quickly became hooked on. The connection they have is real and it was entertaining to watch their relationship develop. I enjoyed the camaraderie between Ryan and his teammates, it added an additional layer to the story; the heat was intense and the banter was witty.

All in all a fun book that made for a good read.

Ryan and Otter are absolute couple goals. What starts as a chance meeting, turns in to a no strings I'll see you when we are in the same town relationship. I love the whole game they play with each other in the beginning. Both coming from fame, they lead busy lives, but the one thing they both do is keep open communication most of the time and that's to me what sets this book apart. The way Ryan handles things with no drama was nice to have in a book. I love getting to know the Men of Manchester Athletic as well as they women who bring them to their knees!

Charming and steamy, Hollywood Ball is everything I had hoped it would be and more. It’s a must read with characters you’re going to fall in love with and a plotline that’ll keep you interested.

The second book in the Manchester Athletic series focuses on Ryan, the striker for the team who’s secretly a genius computer coder with a part-time side business in the tech world, and Otter who’s an actress with a lot of talent and ambition. They happen to meet while stuck in Houston because of a tropical storm, and right away sparks fly, though neither of them actually know who the other is. They have a monumental fling and part ways never having even exchanged real names much less phone numbers or any other way of contacting each other. They happen upon each other yet again back in England weeks later and pick up where they left off in the US. Only by chance do their true identities eventually come out. It’s then that the story gets really interesting, and we see how they go from a fling to much more over the course of the book.

Something I loved about this book is that it’s in a sense a slow burn but without making us wait for something to happen at the start. Right from the beginning, there’s an immediate attraction between Ryan and Otter, and their chemistry is oh-so hot! This is one steamy story for sure, but then there’s also a sweetness to how well their personalities (and hearts) fit together. It’s a fantastic blend of spiciness, tension, and feeling, and I completely enjoyed Ryan and Otter’s journey.

And Ryan and Otter are phenomenal characters both together and separately. He’s genuine and laid back, and his character has a lot of depth. Ryan’s absolutely book-boyfriend material. I love, love, LOVE that he’s super smart and accomplished for that reason but then the hot athlete, too. It’s hands down one of (maybe IS) my favorite ways an author can write a character, and Dyer has outdone herself with Ryan. Then there’s Otter who’s just about as adorable as it gets while still being career driven and witty. She’s certainly sassy and confident, but she has a vulnerable side to her as well. It’s that vulnerability that makes her character so endearing, which is an aspect to Otter that I really liked. The multilayered quality to both their characters kept them feeling real and likable, and I couldn’t have imagined better characters for this book.

This is a complex love story that’s filled with solid storytelling and amazingly well-done characters. I absolutely recommend it, and I can’t wait for Nate’s story next.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was a really fun, romantic story with a lot of fate thrown in there as well. It is Ryan's story and we first met him in the first book, Penalty Kiss in the series. I would say that the two books run concurrently and so we get Ryan's take on some things that happened in the first book and with Ryan's friend Rowan and Dee. That said this story easily stands alone.

This story starts in Houston during a bad snowstorm and Ryan and Otter end up having a lot of fun while finding shelter during a winter storm. The book had a fun quirk in that a lot of the chapters feature different romantic couples and Otter and Ryan use those fake names.

Fate in this book has a large part because despite getting no names and no ways to contact each other, Otter and Ryan keep finding each other. When they finally confess who they are, thats when I started to love this story.

Ryan is a popular soccer/football player in Britain, he is moving to Manchester and that's where he meets Rowan and Dee. But he does travel a lot and he meets a mystery woman who intrigues him as she travels the world too. I loved how these two find out who the other is and I also loved how Nate has a small crush on Otter and how he lets her know things when she is not around.

This was a really fun story, and I cannot wait for Nate's story and who the author pairs him with.

3.0 underwhelming and generous stars. I liked Ryan, introduced in the first book of the series. What I didn't care for was the lack of any romance or depth to this supposed odd romance. If you can even call it that. Its basically 2 busy people who have a handful of hookups as they pass through different cities based on where his soccer career and her acting career takes them. In the first 30 pages or so they don't even reveal their true names or occupations for the first 3 hookups. Disappointing to say the least. Low key soccer star and part time tech geek I was hoping for something a bit more interesting for Ryan. Especially since he seems more mature, focused, intelligent and goal orientated than most of his teammates.

Otter, the actress was likeable enough but again not much character development. It's not until the very end of the story when Ryan gets injured that they even spend more than a few days together. Brief hookups, occasional sexting, and quickie phone calls aren't a relationship in my opinion, and we're supposed to believe that's enough to base a HEA on? Based on the reviews from early readers it was, for me, not so much.

Hollywood Ball by Annie Dyer is the second book in the Manchester Athletic series and it was such an enjoyable and captivating read! Instant connections, fake identities, secret rendezvous and more, what's not to like?!

Ryan is charming and endearing in his nerdy athletic ways and I loved getting to find out more about him, what makes him tick, what drives him, and what motivates him. Watching him go all in for what he wants, being serious, being playful, being driven, it's HOT! And you'll absolutely love it too and want more!

Otter is a sheer delight! For starters, LOVE her name! And the added character it gives an already diverse and intriguing person. Her inner monologue is loud and proud and made me smile with each turn of phrase and thought process.

The chemistry is off the charts! It's fun and playful and deep and meaningful and all in all a beautiful addition to the journey we're already on with these well rounded characters.

This story made my heart happy, and I hope it does the same for you!

P. S. Still love Genevieve, and can't wait for more! And Nate. And Amber. And Lila. And other secondary characters. Annie always does a phenomenal job of drawing you in deep!

P. P. S. Love reading some familiar names! Definitely inspired me to go back and reread some favorites!

P. P. P. S. That. Group. Chat. Stitches. It has me in stitches!
