Alice opened the box and was punished for her transgression by being locked away in our world. As a patient in an asylum, her captors are the playing cards, and the ruler of the asylum is a certain black hearted Queen. To make things worse (?) Alice's only companion has a certain Cheshire Grin. She must escape her current situation, and remember who she is, not only to save herself but to save us all.
if ever an experimental narrative is worthy of Wonderland, Alice Zero definitely challenges readers. It's almost a verse narrative and punctuation is almost incidental, but once you hit the stride of this story, it's a very compelling read that has you asking, what's going on, what will happen next, that can't be what I think it is, etc. Straightforward it is not, but interesting it most certainly is so if you want something that will challenge you to keep up with the story, dive on in.
An excellent and fascinating book full of nuance and intriguing characters. I loved the epic saga-style poetry, that told a superb story, mixing Alice in Wonderland with Greek mythology.
Alice Zero (Alice Pandemic Book 1) by Joshua Pantalleresco
Alice Zero was a fun and somewhat dark short story following Alice. I loved the imagery and the flow of the short story. Really it was more of a poem than a story. I enjoyed it immensely and snagged the second book immediately after finishing it. It was moving and an excellent mash up and retelling of Alice in Wonderland. The whole stuck in an asylum and not knowing who she was, caught my interest right away. It sucked me in. I highly recommend it.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I was impressed with its creative structure and how vibrant the story was. Great read and I cannot wait to continue the series.
