Jenni lives in a strange part of Australia where four seasons regularly occur within a day. She has two wonderful children and eight cats who enjoy tearing through the house at 2am to keep her company.
First book by this author, so I'm usually finding my way in the storytelling. Smooth writing and an interesting plotline made it easy.
The village Alexa grows up in is different, though she finds it as normal as breathing. Clothes are washed by men and so is the cooking. Women fight the enemy. And for a reason...(which I found out later in the book). How I sometimes muttered when she did a stupid thing or didn't listen, but Alexa has know nothing else than the village she grew up in. She hunts dragons. That is her focus. In the midst of everything that is happening it is easy for her to get swept up in an adventure that brings her closer to dragons than she could ever dream...
At 400+ pages, the story is finished and nicely written to and exciting end.
This is a YA fantasy. It follows Alexa who sets out to get revenge on the dragons which have long since been enemies of the town she lives. The dragons go on a killing spree and that's what sets her off. On her journey is her best friend, Zen.
What I liked about this was that the society Alexa lived in was female-run. The men were restricted with what they could do and pretty much had to do as they're told. I liked the friendship between the two and the slow burn romance was satisfying.
Maybe a little more world building could have been done but overall I'm happy with it.
