one day when this book is available to more than a few people i'll write a proper review and it will probably be about 200,000 words long. but for now, holy SHIT this book is amazing. the lear retelling to end all lear retellings. or rather, i can't believe william shakespeare wrote a darkling retelling called king lear.
GENUINELY though max gets full custody of the lear characters forever and also full custody of my brain, which is now not only rewired but trapped in darkling hell for the rest of time. and that's a good thing. HOW ARE MY FRIENDS SO TALENTED. CHECK OUT HOW HARD I CAN CRY.
DARKLING where do I begin with Darkling I think this book did things to my psyche. Holy shit. It was so well done with such nitty gritty politics that pulled together the book sooo perfectly. I was emotional attached to every single character somehow (especially Rory. Rory I am free on Sunday--) and yet each one stood out and felt tangible and human. Stanning Max and also #Griffvald for life
I second what Macy said even beta reading this book was a privilege. I adore them all but Vee and Gracen have a particularly special place in my heart (“are you an oldest child by any chance wren” go AWAY). Anyway obsessed
