Sha Qing
Official English Title: Killer of Killers
Official English Publisher: Rosmei
Length: 93 chapters (3x books planned)
3rd Person POV

DNF @ 10%
Leo Lawrence (MC, FBI agent) is a very rigid and boring character. He spends most of the time having a crush on his sister’s boyfriend Li Biqing. I wanted more time focused on the serial killer ‘Sha Qing’ and delving deeper into the crimes.

So yeah for a danmei crime thriller I’m just not finding it very thrilling. It made me wish I was reading ‘Wine and Gun’ by Mengye Mengye instead because it’s far superior to this.

From the title alone, The Killer of Killers, you’d expect intense, gruesome scenes. But instead, it’s more like “...and then he died.” I didn’t feel any of the horror or suspense I experienced when reading Silent Reading or Kaleidoscope of Death.

My issues don’t end there. Leo and the killer he’s trying to bring to justice—a person he obsesses over daily—interact more like a school bully and a top student with a flirt/fight dynamic. I dropped this at 28% because I wasn’t willing to waste any more time. This novel literally put me to sleep. Twice.

Luckily, I got to read it before buying it blindly.

Would I recommend it? No.

Read trigger warnings before reading!!!!

"In my heart lives a demon, please turn into a rose vine and bind it forever."

The premise of this story is super interesting and it is what initially captured my attention. I have not read many 'dark' romances so a plot like this was very new to me. I think it could have been an amazing story. The first half was really captivating and fun to read. Then once it started to slow down towards the end of the story.
There are multiple issues with this book. First the blaring issue you can find in the trigger warnings, but also the authors pacing was off. I think this book would have benefitted with more chapters including the main characters relationship rather than the amount of chapters in that one place at the end of the book. Their relationship was not fleshed out as much as it could have been, and it felt a little strange that Leo even liked Sha Qing? There really wasn't much of a reason for him to fall in love with Sha Qing. The main couple definitely needed more chemistry bc them being together did not make much sense.
Multiple points of the story didn't make much sense, but most of them were minor things you could ignore.

I'll be completely honest there is only two reasons why I rated this 3.75 and not lower,
1. I actually really like Sha Qing,,, listen I know he's a serial killer but hear me out...
2. I started reading this story around 1-2 years ago and have been waiting for the translation to finish for so long that I feel like I put so much time into this book that I have to rate it higher.

I really wanted to enjoy this, but I couldn't. The novel started off pretty good and exciting, actually. However, it couldn't keep me hooked as the story progressed. The author had really good plot ideas. They could have been executed better.

There were a few things that the author didn't explain, plus a few things that just didn't make sense. For example: (1) The author didn't explain how that lawyer knew that Sha Qing was arrested. (2) Daniel received the notification for the bank transaction made by Yuvre (or whatever his name was). If they were being prey for the hunters on some island, how were they even allowed to have cell phones? It just doesn't make any sense. (3) There were not many details about Sha Qing's past. A little more detail could have been better.

For the two main characters - Sha Qing and Leo. They were like, okay. Their chemistry was okay. Ah, how I wished their chemistry to be deadly and crazy... but, anyway... Towards the end, that particular rape incident left a bitter taste. The FBI agent was like, "I know what I did was a mistake, but I'm not going to say sorry for that." And I was like, WHAT? Anyway... A sorry couldn't be enough for what he did. But yeah, Sha Qing forgave him.
Yup, this has a happy ending, and they are living happily ever after, which I couldn't care less about.

PD. Qué buenos gustos musicales tiene la autora. Hubo mención a Tyler, the Creator.

✔✔✔✔✔Misterio
✔✔✔✔✔Gran trama

3/5. The main storyline took approximately 10 days to conclude. However, I encountered difficulty finding the translated extras, and MT proved to be cumbersome to navigate. My immersion in the story was often disrupted by stereotypical portrayals of certain characters, which detracted from its overall quality.

The author draws inspiration from popular American police procedural shows, influencing the depiction of various factions and demographics within the story. While the narrative exhibits promising elements, it would benefit from a nuanced approach to character representation.

In the event of an official English publication, I strongly recommend enlisting the expertise of a sensitivity reader and a culturally competent writer to support both the translator and the author. The dynamics between the two main characters, Leo and Sha Qing, are a highlight, showcasing intellectually stimulating interactions. Despite Sha Qing's role as a serial killer, his character is compelling. However, Leo's characterization is marred by a particular rape scene, which significantly impacted my perception of him. This incident leaves a regrettable impression of him. Leo's actions undermine his credibility and render him a hypocritical figure. No matter what he did after I do not like him. On a side note Sha remember “an eye for an eye”.

Ultimately, Leo is hypocritic, failing to reconcile his actions with his purported beliefs. Despite this, I recognize the untapped potential of exploring this a lot more, particularly in delving deeper into Leo's character and exploring themes of hypocrisy.

TW ra**, child abuse, se**** abuse, death, parental loss, blood, and dis\memberment. These elements are pervasive throughout the narrative, characteristic of the police procedural serial killer genre.

Mystery ✔
Great plot✔
Enemies to lovers who try to outsmart (kill?) each other while having interactions that will make you blush because it is so freaking HOTTTT✔✔✔✔

Sometimes, you see everyone is reading the same books but there is rebel streak in you that wants to read something else. Suddenly, a stranger in a discord server recommends a not-so-well known novel, AN AMAZING ENEMIES TO LOVERS, about a an FBI agent and the serial killer who targets serial killers he is chasing, and they say it is the best thing they have read... And even though translation is not complete your interest is piqued. And you fall, you fall hard; so much that you end up mtl-ling the rest of it because it is SO DAMN GOOD!!!!

My mind has been completely blown away.

The behavioural analysis and criminal psychology elements are brilliant. I would like to gush more about every single aspect of it but it would be a spoiler. And I hate spoilers. Just believe me when I say this story is riveting, the main characters chemistry is so hot to the extent that I was afraid my Kindle was going to combust, well flesh out supporting characters throughout the novel, full of twists and turns, some you get hints of them, some completely unexpected, morally gray characters who are a painful reminder at times of what justice really has become in this world, and a very satisfying ending.

Last extra made me choke up at the end. I am so glad I found Sha Qing! Thank you dear stranger in the discord server!!!

I really really wanted to love this so much... I just couldn't. First is the characters themselves. Peaple were always saying how much tension they have but I didn't feel any of that at all.. The plot would've been great but the execution?? And next is Sha qings feelings themselves.. honestly I don't feel like he loved Leo at all and was just using him to further his plans.. at most it was admiration.. and for him to use Leo even after knowing his deepest fear was a shitty move.. Imagine if he had died, I don't think Leo would have recovered and actually i just think this should have been a tragedy. There's nothing compatible about the two of them. It doesn't even make sense. Ntm what Leo did to him in prison..

it's like a death note AU where Light ends up with L instead of "dying pathetically to his own hubris". the cases are not as intricate compared to the ones in 破云 and 默读 but the serial killer x detective trope is always a good time lmao. the ending was a tad bit too happy and idealistic (and predictable!) and many other plot points in the book seem too outrageous and convenient, like they were just there for the protagonists to have some sort of "plot armour". oh but something really refreshing about this book that i enjoyed and wish more danmei books will adopt too is that

I thought romanticised rape was bad, but now I think I hate deliberate rape "as punishment" that the rapist feels no guilt over even worse. Story was really excellent cat-and-mouse up to this point -- author ruined it for nothing.
