Ronin (Mac)After tragically losing everyone in my life that meant everything to me, I had nothing left to live for. Alone, penniless, desperate, I didn’t care whether I lived or died. I allowed myself to be converted to a weapon even the most powerful country in the world couldn’t contain. For years, I roamed where I pleased, assisted where there was a worthy cause, and otherwise minded my own business. And then the same misguided ideology that created me crashed into my path again. This time I did care about life. This time I had someone to fight for, someone I would level the world to protect.Katia (Kat)My entire life had been a struggle, a fight that I had finally begun to conquer. And then some drunk driver struck me down and left me to die, broken beyond modern medicine to repair. I think I did die that day, only to become a test subject for fanatical scientists. They violated me when I was most vulnerable in the most egregious way another human being could violate another. After getting what they wanted from me, they tried to cover up their crime by killing me again. However, they hadn’t anticipated him. I hadn’t anticipated the obsession he would become. Of course, they came after us. They should have thought of the ramifications of that. Their obsession created him, created us. They created a weapon meant to destroy, meant to be utilized only in the most dire circumstances, and then lost it. They had no idea what they were chasing!
The first romance novel I ever read was Cinderella! I devoured Disney’s version of romance until I was eleven, and then I discovered Mills & Boons. In those days kissing was the most explicit intimacy disclosed: the hero and heroine went to bed and came out the next day with smiles! I had no idea what happened, but I was intrigued. My mom had shelves and shelves of them. Over the long summer breaks, I barely left my bedroom! My busy parent had no idea what I was up to. I’ve always been fascinated with love stories. I started writing in college, but I never expected anyone would ever read my whimsical musings. LOL! Now years later, after husband and kids, and a solid career in finance I’ve started publishing those early ideas.
I write my stories so that every woman would be inspired to find the other half of themselves. With every story I tell, my Caribbean sisters are highlighted. Our culture is a melting pot of all ethnicities, where love has no color. We love who we love and make no apology for it. These stories are also infused with my love for sports and action thrillers. I’m an avid sports fan. Tennis, football, track and basketball are my favorites. I devour dramas and action movies. So it’s to be expected that my books have a healthy dose of adventure.
Writing romance novels has been a dream I never knew I had. It was born out of suddenly having a little extra time with the kids out of the house. I absolutely love this creative outlet.
Author’s Creed I like women strong, and my men stronger! I like my sex raunchy but meaningful!
Overall, I did enjoy this book. I enjoyed the characters for the most part but there were some things that stood out to me:
The kids asked if they were black or white and Katia's answer was you can choose. No, the answer is multiracial. Their father is Scottish and British and she's African, Jamaican and Indian.
Mac said: "I had never been attracted to black women before or any woman of color for that matter." Fetishization. This man has lived over 100 years and has never found a non-white woman attractive?
The constant arguing about the lack of communication between Mac and Katia (mostly because of Mac) was tiring.
“Don’t ever try to use sex to control me,” he told me darkly. “For one thing, it would never work, and for another, you’re not that skilled." This man (Mac) told Katia she was bad at sex??????
Mac was an FBI agent, a Director of a super secret agency and a Duke all at the same time? I can only suspend my disbelief so much. Mac comparing himself to an Avenger took me outtt. 💀
I did enjoy the ending. Reading from Liam's POV interesting. I also liked the storyline with the scientists chasing after Katia and her fam. For me, this book started off great and then fell off somewhere in the middle before picking up again.

This author continues to do fabulous things with the words they write. Truly happy I stumbled across this author and this brief series.
Regarding the characters - Mac and Kat are the straight bomb, aesthetically and personality. Their chemistry is on fire. And the supporting characters, bravo.
Bringing other characters from the previous books in the series is always a major plus.
The romance, intrigue, and suspense, seriously the best! Absolutely loved that they saved Mac for last.
When government experiment Mac rescues Katia it’s love at first sight even though neither want to admit it to the other. Due to said experiments they birthed twin boys. While living their unconventional family life, old enemies resurface and they must go in the run as a family to defeat them.
This was a fun read, there was a lot of action, romance and suspense. I liked both MCs, but man I was frustrated with them sometimes. The twins were so great! It seems there is a set up to follow the boys starting with Liam in future books but I honestly wouldn’t have minded seeing their super powered family fight crime with the twins as boys.
The only reason this wasn’t a 5 star for me is, the climax was pretty anti-climatic, especially since the rest of the book had so much action. Also I just knew we were going to revisit Elizabeth and get some payback but nope, nothing.
I will get straight to the point, WOW…that’s it! This book was off the charts, it had my heart accelerating, me shaking wondering what was going to happen next, it kept me on my toes with the unexpected, I absolutely loved Mac and Kat’s story, I loved this series and can’t wait for their sons stories hopefully with Jayla, her sibling and Ogen (Colt/Imani’s daughter).
Wow! What an amazing ride. I did not want the story to end. This book pick so much, from action, to drama, to espionage, to everlasting love. Love that we got to see some old characters. Looking forward to the protégés stories!! Excitement
As if the accent wasn't enough, Mac was six feet six inches of super deliciousness who could give Captain America a run for his money! That being said, for Mac it was all about Katia from the moment he laid eyes on her. He rescued her and their infant sons from evil scientists (yes, really!) who were going to murder Kat and keep the babies to experiment on! A lifetime bond was forged, but Kat and Mac kept their feelings for each other hidden until the threat of their family being torn apart forced Mac's hand! Excellent read!
Absolutely, loved this book. The characters, the cadence, the plot line were the makings of a movie. This could be used as a screen play it’s that good. I won’t give any spoilers but, I was holding my sides with laughter when reading the church scene…Mac is a piece of work, my kind of piece of work, I should add. Read this book!
mrsmuffy@icloud.com I absolutely Love this story I read the book on a couple hour's because I just couldn't put it down definitely a Great read I would recommend reading this as well as her other Great titles Happy Reading 😘
I loved this book! Mac and Katia's love was a love for all time! This book was a sci-fi, paranormal, contemporary rolled into one and I loved it! Liam and Colin made my day also! I hope there are books for them in the near future!
Once I got into it this story was so addictive, I could not put the book down, I had to keep reading and the end result was well worth it. A wonderful story full of espionage, spies, killings, evil doctors and very hot a steaming, mouth watering sex/love making scenes, gets you all hot and bothered lol.
Good at of characters. Great to connect with Colt and Justin Ragnarson and to see them with their growing families. The lov e story between Katia and Mac was scorching. Would love to see a cross over with the Guardian series. Can't wait to see what the author will come up with next.
Mac and Kat were destined to be together, otherwise these two would never meet. Different in everything, even by century… 🤪 But their love for r each is beyond this world. It hard to properly review this book without spoilers. So, I am leaving you with this : “ what scientists meant for experiments and greed became the greatest gift “. Love it
Loved this book, didn't want it to end. It was a great experience. Action from beginning to the end. I got so engrossed in the characters that I was sad to see it end. Thanks for entertaining me. Great job of writing this book.
I was sceptical about reading this book as the first one was a real turn off to me (personally). But this one made up for that one. I love the characters and how the remained family till the end. Great job!!!
I read this book in one day, cover to cover, it was too goid to put down!! I didn't see the twists, turns, an unexpected powers that Mac and Kat had going on throughout the story. This book is outrageously good. I'm on to the next one!!
I am so glad this book kept of the momentum of the previous two bookshops still manage to take it to another level. I mean wow. I don’t even know how to put it in words. The thought put into this collection is amazing. I found it hard to put it down and focus on my work. Lol I had to finish it. Well happy reading I have to get back to reality.
Every story including this one has been excellent! Love Katia and Ronin! The plot the reappearance of supporting characters is a bonus! Mac is every bit of a gentle Alpha giant and Katia was exactly what he needed! No shrinking violet, confident and the perfect heroine!
Everything about Ronin (Mac) and Katia (Kat), EVERYTHING!!! I didn't care for them evil quack doctors and don't think Dean deserved what he got either. It was HIS people that started all this in the first place! So hoping we're going to get more of the twins? They were AWESOME!!! Excellent writing as always, highly recommend the series.
I absolutely didn't want this story to end! I was hooked from page 1. The main characters in this book complemented each other so well. Like they were literally made for each other. Loved the passion between them the most. I definitely want to read more from this family.
I definitely enjoyed this book and I especially loved the characters, and the storyline and I am looking forward to reading more of the new characters.
Wow what a ride!. I love Justin, I adore Colt but Mac .....oh lawd! What a man, what a man! This is my favourite book from the series. D.M hit this one out of the park.
This one got a late bump to 3 stars from 2 and it's mostly due to the story developing in a meaningful way. Kat is on her deathbed after being hit by a bus and is used as a incubator to carry children while she's recovering in a coma. Apparently, Mac aka Ronin is an exceptional human who's the only survivor of a trial where he's injected with serum that gave him super speed, healing, longevity, and strength. Unable to replicate the results and the success with Ronin since he disappeared, the scientists use what they think is his descendant's DNA to impregnate women who they hope will produce offspring with the same abilities. The only problem being that all of the women and their babies have died. Except Kat who not only survives both the accident and the cocktail of serum given to her which aids in her healing process, but is the first woman to maintain her pregnancy. Not to mention, Kat develops powers of her own that are different from Ronin's. She instead got the ability to astral project and crush minds. The very virginal Kat at that. Ronin is informed about her predicament and that of his soon to be born twin sons by one of the scientists who developed a conscience and Ronin takes that information and rescues Kat.
Before the bus mowed her down, Kat was a college student and engaged to someone else. However, her life and everyone she knows in it thinks she's dead, and no wonder seeing as how she was in a coma for 3 years before her mind awakens without her body following suit. She can hear what's going on around her but is otherwise paralyzed until Ronin's scent energizes her brain/body connection to get her back in control of her bodily functions for the rescue.
Ronin sets Kat up in a mansion with tons of money and all the resources she needs to care for their children while he lives in an apartment that's near. Kat is warned away from her previous life to keep her loved ones safe, which is really only her ex-fiance since her parents died when she was young and there's no mention of any other relatives. For five years, Kat and sons, Liam and Colin live in peace with Ronin visiting periodically when he's on a break from his dangerous missions. What Agency employs him is anyone's guess but the FBI is a cover for another cover and turns out, he's the Director of an Agency he started 50 years ago to fight the crimes of the worst of the worst. The remainder of the book is Ronin and Kat discovering their love and passion for one another, avoiding two of the scientists who want to use them to develop more serum, rescuing those caught in the cross-fire, discovering Kat's powers, learning more about the characters themselves, and being treated to adorable moments by the five year olds in the story.
The inconsistencies in this story were distracting and Kat's easy acceptance of almost everything was a bit unrealistic as were certain other details in the book. The author did a decent job of ensuring explanations for certain aspects of the story and kept aligned on what was occurring. The thing that I couldn't quite understand was the reference to Ronin's devout Catholicism. He married Kat shortly after she had their twin sons without knowing anything about her other than she was the mother of his children. However, he kept seeing his girlfriend for a year after their marriage. Despite his faith which frowns on adultery, despite his growing obsession with Kat that caused him to call her name when he was intimate with said girlfriend, and despite him knowing almost immediately that he was enamored of Kat.
SPOILERS * The plot for this story is completely unique, and although there are quite a few non-primary characters, the story is more than romance.. there's action, more action, thrilling drama, some mystery, villainous intrigue, and sexy time.
I loved that even though the idea of what happened to main characters was not legal, it wasn't something that was completely far-fetched.
The latitude and discretion provided to the scientists was a bit unbelievable, given it was a government program. Those funds would've been heavily monitored.
What I didn't like was the negative characteristics.. shade if you will, given to the Baptist church in preference to the "elegant atmosphere of the Catholic church ceremonies". That entire scene of having Mac sit in the church and viewing it, congregation, and all through hateful, prejudiced lens, (as well as one of the only male black men in the story) was disgusting, entirely biased, and inferring that Katia preferred the quiet elegance of the Catholic church while comparing the Baptist church so negatively.. it felt a lot deeper than just the church ceremony, and it off-putting.
Why? If the point was to make him jealous, why make him not-so-slick racist?
Also, the author over mentioning the FMC bone straight hair, received from her Desi heritage, repeatedly, by the characters own description and others. Even going so far as to imply Katia suffered "biracial identity issues because she was dark skinned, resembled her Jamaican mother, but had her Indian fathers bone straight hair, which caused people to question her ethnic background??" Who wrote this book?
The only other black woman in the story was described to have bone straight hair and grey eyes...
Sighs.
I didn't really connect with Katia. In the beginning of the story, her character was full of positive energy but further into the storyline she became very hypocritical, ungrateful, and seemed to get angry about ridiculous things the amount of danger they were constantly in.
The constant miscommunication was a bit much, too.
And, we're not going to just skate past the fact that Katia enjoyed breakfast, took care of some other stuff, and then told Mac about the situation with Justin and his family with only a few hours to spare. But, the second she knew something could possibly happen to Trey, she was visibly upset and wanted Mac to immediately go and help.
But, didn't understand why Mac got upset...
My score dropped, because of the unnecessary prejudiced views from Mac that went unchecked because it was all in his thoughts.
The long, exhausting, sometimes repetitive inner thoughts they both had about everything that seemed to drag out every conversation, and interaction.
Mac was unnecessarily secretive with Katia about a lot of things. I liked his character, until that church scene. About 70% into the story, his character development went into retrograde.
Unfortunately, there is little character development in the story. But, the plot is interesting so my rating is 3.7, rounded up.
It is not easy create a story this complex with developed characters, scenes, dialogue, and so on. Overall, I think this a good story and recommend it.
