Andy ends his friends with benefits relationship with his co-worker, Will, when he realizes that while it has plenty of benefits, it's light on the friends. He's sick of Will's rules and poor treatment but agrees to be friends, minus the benefits because he's still hung up on the guy.
Will gets the wake-up call he so desperately needed when Andy ends things and discovers that maybe Andy's feelings aren't one-sided but he's got a lot of healing to do before he can be the man that Andy needs.
So Worth More has some allusions to domestic abuse, mentions of former partners cheating, and a whole heap of family drama. While Andy does deserve better, Will does get there in the end. Told in dual pov with HEA.
Contains adult language and sexual situations. It is meant for audiences 18+ ONLY.
RTC but I kind of struggled getting into this one at first as it was a lot of information at once and I had a hard time processing it, but once I got into it, boy did I get into it. I ended up really enjoying this book and I had a really good time reading it.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review
I received this fantastic book as an ARC I'm exceptionally pleased with this first book in a series. Andy and Will are fantastic characters both like onions, lots of layers to peel back and find who they are apart and together. Jax has written this book with heart and passion and I for one are extremely proud of her. So if you like hot men, with angst, grit and love and a story with passion, sex and redemption then pre order this book. You won't regret it :) Now patiently waiting for the next book in the series
i didn't liked this one. the writing feels more like stream of consciousness then dialog and story telling. a lot of the things were told not shown, it felt like most of the things happened off page and than were mentioned in passing on it, all that contributed to feeling disconnected from the characters and their chemistry. on paper (in the blurb) this looks very promising, hookup that catches reluctant feelings, but reading it i felt bored and disinterested. DNFing this at around 67%, (skimmed thought the rest of it) really not compelled to continue
So Worth More starts off with Andy and Will broken up from their friends with benefits arrangement. Andy wants more and knowing he will never get it from Will he ends things which results in an angry Will. Will has a lot of emotional baggage to unpack throughout the story as he realizes he does want more with Andy but has a lot of introspection to do before he can win him over. He messes up again and again and poor Andy pays emotionally for it. The book includes lots of flashbacks to their time when they were just hooking up, and as a result I’m surprised how patient Andy is in the present as there are multiple incidents to where Will is just downright cruel in his attempts to force Andy to remember his place as it were. The story is a slow burn as there are stumbling blocks like I mentioned, and Will attempts to truly build a friendship with Andy which was lacking the first time around. It’s a lovely emotional read between 2 men who’ve both been hurt but find their HEA in each other.
I reviewed a complimentary copy am very much looking forward to reading about Will’s brother in book 2.
An excellent debut from a new author in the genre. Will and Andy got straight into my heart and head within the first few chapters, and I truly enjoyed watching their story play out. The secondary characters also captured me - I even have a few that I'm hoping to see stories about! - and the dialogue was believable and well-written. The author doesn't shy away from harder topics, and covered them with sensitivity. There's definitely some *SPICE* in this book, and I learned quite a few things that I didn't know about, being a straight woman. I'm looking forward to future books and excited to see this is going to be a series!
Littered with flashbacks and info dumps. There were multiple paragraphs describing the renos that had previously been done to the apartment… why do I need to read pages about that?
The dual POVs are completely indistinctive from each other.
Will is an egoistic dick, only using Andy for his own pleasure. Friends with benefits uhuh, without the friends part. Will made it clear, no feelings involved. Andy had enough, and even though it hurts he end things with Will. Seeing Will through Andy’s eyes doesn’t do well for Will. Ugh. Seeing him through his own ditto. So where lies the problem, the story will tell. And what a story it is!!
“Realistically, I knew I didn’t mean anything more to Will than a convenient form of stress relief.“
They are co-workers at the same firm. They started on the wrong foot already. From one thing came another etc etc. Now from bed partners without strings, Will wants to try being a friend. Andy introduced him to his circle of friends and he really wants to stay part of them.
Not an easy task being friends, with all the baggage. Family is a topic of stress, as former relationships, abuse, cheating, not gonna spoil more than the blurb says.
“To swap physical intimacy for hopefully something better.“
Somehow they get along better than before. The L word has such a heavy load on it and not in a good way, it’s devastating!
In short, I was plastered to the pages, I read on and on, and I fell in love with them more and more. It took a while but they got their deserved happy end. In short, a more than captivatingly written story, with wonderfully layered characters, some hurt comfort, redemption, all the feelings, and a very happy end! One of these stories I didn’t want to end. *sigh happily and satisfied*
I utterly adore second chance romances. This book was a beautiful story about a second chance relationship. Andy and Will have a friends with benefits arrangement. When Andy realizes its more benefits than friends he ends it. He realizes he wants more and he doesn’t think Will would ever get there. Andy feels mistreated and he feels as though Will has too many rules to keep him at arms length. Andy agrees to just be friends with Will because even though he cant continue with the treatment Will is giving him he cant help but still have strong feelings for him. Andy is not ready to lose Will in his life just yet. So friends it is. Once Andy ends things Will begins to realize that his feelings for Andy have developed into something more as well and he is not prepared to lose Andy. Will realizes he needs to man up and become the man that Andy needs. This was truly a sweet story between these two men and it was absolutely swoon worthy. I am beyond excited to dive right in to book 2!!
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.
POV: 1st Person Dual POV
Standalone or series: Book 1 in the Second Chances series
Would I recommend it: 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ highly recommend!! 🤩
Jax Stuart's debut novel, So Worth More, is so worth the read.
This is the story of two coworkers, Will and Andy, who have been having a physical relationship for several months. However, when Andy grows tired of Will playing hot and cold, they decide to remove the benefits and try to be just friends. In my view, this is not quite a second chance romance, though it plays at the tropes. Mainly because their first relationship is not emotional. Yes, Andy has some unrequited feelings for Will, but he is aware of where they stand and never attempts to act on it.
Instead, it is a story that moves from the physical into actually getting to know one another. Into taking the time to fall in love for real. Both of these men have their own issues to overcome and we actually get to see them take those strides, something that feels incredibly rare in this genre. Love does not conquer all, after all. Hard work and working to become a better partner for your partner conquers a lot more than just love, and Stuart shows us this throughout the course of this novel.
The characters are incredibly endearing. There are a few times I want to smack Will in the head, a few times I want to smack Andy in the head, and a few times I want to smack both of their heads together but what good book doesn't elicit that kind of emotional response in its readers about its characters. And when they do finally start communicating, it is beautiful. The story and relationship between these two men is beautiful and lovely and I cannot speak highly enough about it.
This book is a slow burn, medium-low level angst with a good level of spice. Stuart draws the readers in from the first moment and keeps us hooked throughout. I cannot wait to read the other stories Stuart has planned for the men in this series. I'm proud to say she has gained a new reader.
did i enjoy this? i actually started this in may, but i saw there were flashbacks, and i hated that so i dropped it. and so i picked it up again.
update: i still hate the flashback parts. and let me tell you, there are lots of it. it annoyed me.
did i enjoy this? uh maybe for the basic story. but this was too much information, repeated so many times, just a telling and telling without any showing.
i was annoyed for most of it and i just wanted to finish this book. 😭
i wish Will groveled more, he was a very confusing character. and i wish Andy had a backbone.
and then that random character just appearing out of nowhere (first time mentioned at 70%) and being Will's "bestfriend" who has always been there for him aka Christian? why.........
after reading my own review, i feel like it was just a 2 star read.
This was a really good read. Being a new to me author I wasn’t sure what to expect. I enjoyed the side characters too and hope we get more of them. It does deal with some heavy issues but doesn’t go too deep in them that they detract from the story. I also like how we don’t meet them at their beginning but get their start through the book. It let us get to know them more that way. Personally I think they both are very forgiving people and I like how they know and respect the need for therapy. After reading this one though it’s going to be hard to read Charlie’s book without disliking him. He’s going to have to work for that.
I love discovering a new author as they premiere their debut novel - it means I can say I knew them when ... such is the story with Jax Stuart who offered us the chance to review So Worth More.
I enjoyed this coworkers second chance romance with a nicely done redemption storyline. I don't want to spoil the content, but it does involve unpacking emotional baggage on both sides, as well as hot sex. I am looking forward to the next one!
I really appreciated the progression of this story. I loved that things started off from the point of the break up then we kind of experienced the before and after of it all.
Andy and will's story is second chance romance that has loads of pent up tension, steamy moments and a really sweet ending. This was a brilliant read and i highly recommend it. We really need Henry's story. I've developed such a bond with all the characters.
This was fantastic debut for a new author!! The story pulled me into right from the beginning and didn’t let go until the end. Andy and Will work together. They have a “friend” with benefit agreement although they aren’t really friends. When Andy realizes he wants more and Will doesn’t, so he ends the agreement. Will pulled the hot/cold with Andy a lot and I wanted to smack him a few times! They decide to try being friends. I loved the growth of Andy and Will. The story has a good amount of angst and tension with some heat and steam. This was a fantastic beginning to a new series. I got invested with some of the characters! The story is really well written with complicated and complex characters, highly recommend it!! I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy I received. This was solely based on my honest thoughts and opinion.
The story follows colleagues Andy and Will who secretly are friends-with-benefits, without the friends part. After being treated badly by Will one too many times, Andy realizes he deserves better and ends things. But none of them are happy with that.
I was drawn into the story right from the start and instantly rooted for Andy. I couldn’t stand Will after the first chapter and was really curious to see how and if he’d redeem himself. I liked the characters and the story development, even if there weren’t any big surprises. I loved how they tried to be friends and make it work, even after they ended things. There is a lot of back and forth without much angst. Some parts felt a little too cheesy and fast for me and I would’ve loved to delve a little deeper into both of their pasts. But that would’ve turned this low angst and light romance into something much more angsty and darker.
And I have to say, for being the first novel by this author, the writing flows seamlessly and they’ve done an excellent job with proof reading. I loved the side characters and hope to get stories of them in the future.
If you’re in the mood for a sweet, low angst second chance romance with love/hate, some forced proximity and opposites attract, you definitely should read this!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I wanted to love this but Will just needed a kick up the backside for so many reasons that I wanted Andy to find someone better and who deserved him. To be fair, Will thought that Andy deserved better too but just couldn't get past his trust issues (and didn't bother to try until it should have been too late) to see that Andy wasn't like anyone in his past. Andy had trauma in his past too and I wanted the best for him. Their arrangement was not friends with benefits but just sex without the friendship or any consideration of Andy's feelings and well-being, and the only thing Will didn't do is leave the money on the table as he fled every time. Andy was a sweetheart but I needed him to stand up for himself, especially after what he'd been through. He gave Will far too many chances while Will just kept him hanging on or ignored him. What finally made me give it three stars was once Will got his act together, he was all in and even though it was a tad unbelievable, I was invested in Andy's happiness and Will was what he wanted so I couldn't complain. I'm going to read For All It's Worth now, which is Will's brother's story. Knowing what Charlie had done, he's got a lot to redeem himself for and who knows if he'll capture readers' hearts? And after that, I hope the third book is Henry and Pete's story.
There’s a nice blend of chemistry, character development, and drama in this story. Andy has a heart of gold, a spine of steel, and a forgiving nature that Will definitely puts to the test. Will is not a bad person, but he is in a bad place, emotionally, when the story starts, and it takes a while– a long, long while– for him to get things together enough to be the partner Andy needs. Many of the issues, later in the story in particular, could have been solved by just talking to each other, and I admit that by the time we got to the third or fourth time Will managed to make all the wrong choices and derail their relationship while knowing that he was in love with Andy I was short on patience and confidence that he’d ever stop with the self-sabotage. Eventually, of course, he does. There’s an HEA. And it feels particularly lovely for having been so very hard won. As an added bonus, I absolutely loved Gem, a supporting character who starts out seeming like she’s going to be the embodiment of the pointlessly malevolent and controlling girlfriend plot device and actually turns out to be a really nice person with a narrative of her own.
*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was so worth reading! I enjoy second chance romances and am a huge fan of this author and wanted to read some of her contemporary romances (I’ve read her omegaverse books and love them). I really enjoyed this one and it was a fun quick read with a good amount of spice.
I feel like it must be a fine line in writing second chance romances between making one character (or maybe both) part of the reason the couple broke up in the first place and making them utterly dislikable to the audience. I think the author handled this perfectly. Will does some things that skirt the line in the second category with his actions toward Andy that make you shake you me head but there are hints and teasers at why he pushes Andy away or that it’s for some reason that the audience doesn’t fully understand yet and not because he’s a terrible character. Andy has his own issues and baggage as well but I love how he has his own self assertive moments towards the end.
I enjoyed the other characters in the book and can’t wait to read Charlie’s story next. I am hoping there is a Henry and Pete story as there is so much tension and angst with these two. And although the audience doesn’t spend too much time with Charlie, the times he mentioned gear him up for one interesting story.
I started this book as a new reader to Jax Stuart. I know she has a new book coming out, number two, For All It’s Worth, and I really wanted to read book one first. I was blown away by the emotions I felt in this book! Andy is such a wonderful man. I was totally in love almost immediately. He’s an absolute sweetheart. Will, on the other hand, was harsh and cruel in some ways. You could tell he’d been hurt, but at the same time why take it out on Andy?
But and there’s always a but right? Will got his shit together. He really did and he became a friend to Andy and then he messed up again. But then he fixed it. Like truly fixed it and became who he was meant to be. It was all the feels and all worth staying up until zero dark thirty in the morning. Yes, I totally picked up this book at 10 pm and finished it in one sitting. Do I regret it? Nope, I regret not a single thing. In fact, I’m wearing my favorite shirt that says just one more chapter.
If you like MM romance, pick up So Worth More. You will fall in love with these two guys. Now, I’m off to download the next book. 😘
This is a fantastic debut book from new author Jax Stuart, and thank you for letting me be a small part of the journey JS.
This is a great story, well thought out, with planning and good pace. I flows really well with the fabulous characters holding the hands of the readers all the way through the story. I loved all of the characters, even the stroppy girlfriend, and really enjoyed the ensemble cast which I'm sure will lead to further books.
I loved that JS was able to capture all of the emotions felt by the main characters, as well as the support cast during their scenes which were significant. It felt like a rollercoaster with all of them. The book also covered some sensitive areas such as dysfunction families and divorce but these were done with careful attention.
I really enjoyed the book and recommend it to you for your Kindle today; I can't wait for the rest of the series xx
This was an enjoyable debut romance. There were several things that happened behind the scenes that I would have enjoyed seeing, especially near the end of the book, but the author did a good job of making me care about Andy and Will. Both men had serious past issues, so the rocky road to love was believable and understandable. I liked seeing Will work through his difficulties with trust, and I thought he was a good man at heart - even though a total jerk at the beginning. Andy had been abused and neglected in the past, and definitely put up with more from Will early on than he should have. I was thankful when his patience eventually paid off. There were a lot of good secondary characters here I hope to get to know better. Andy and Will had an interesting group of friends. I liked this romance, and I look forward to reading more from this world. Seeing more of Will and Andy will be a nice bonus.
It took me a while to get into this one, I felt as if there was so much information to absorb, it was a bit confusing at times as this book had a few flashbacks to a time these men had a friends with benefits relationship.....the start of the book they were friends with a rocky past and tons of baggage. Once I got past all of that, I enjoyed the hell out of this book. This was a slow burn, with unrequited love vibe read. I have to say I was not a fan of one mc's treatment of the other and I had a hard time with immediate forgiveness lol ....however, I'm all about second chances and redemption if it's done right....and I am happy to say this one was ❤️ all in all this was a great read and I'd recommend for sure.
* I received an ARC from GRR, this is my open and honest review *
Will and Andy won me over with their second chance romance. These two have a sort of casual arrangement, but are mostly workout buddies and work peers. I feel like their ‘first chance’ never really had legs as a result. So we have two people who disastrously hooked up because one (looking at you Will) has issues. When Andy creates healthy boundaries, they explore real friendship instead. Yep romance can finally begin... As these two explore their friendship and tentative new bond, we get to know their friends, and it's a great cast! I hope to see a few of them in the future... Seeing the growth of Andy and Will as individuals and together is the real highlight (beyond the great cast of characters) here.
You have to wait for the happiness in this one. It is not an easy read but it is so worth it: just like the title says. Will treats Andy very poorly. Let’s be honest. Andy is definitely worth a lot more and I am proud of the character for realizing it. He has some baggage from past relationships that make it hard for him to stick to his decision but he gets too tired of being hurt. Will has to wake up and realize what he is doing to them both. He has issues with trust too but that doesn’t excuse his behavior and he knows it. Oh my gosh though. These two are so worth a read and I am glad that I did. There is a lot of forgiveness and love in this book. I will probably read this one again and again.
Andy and Will are coworkers with benefits on the down low. But one time Will takes things just a little too far so Andy calls it quits. He's starting to feel more than what Will can give him in return. I liked that the story starts off with Andy ending their arrangement. We got to see how they became coworkers and then added the benefits through their memories, which I really enjoyed. Will's past is filled with family drama and heartbreak, so I am glad that when he realizes he wants more with Andy, he decides to take time to sort his stuff out and seek help. I also like the supporting cast of characters and hope to see more of Pete and Henry, there is definitely a story between those two. A great debut novel by Jax Stuart.
