Lisa Dianne McInnes has always been fascinated with spirituality and the human experience. She prides herself on always being committed to the truth, even when it hurts, and believes in being reliable, trustworthy, honest, and loyal to those she loves.

However, in 2012, when tragedy struck and shattered her family, Lisa's beliefs were tested and she was forced to undergo a profound inner transformation. In doing so, she had to acknowledge the trauma of her past but chose only to remember the love her family shared. Her solid understanding and belief in the theory of mindfulness and living in the moment helped her rise from the ashes and move on with her life. She believes the past can be like a black hole: if you stand too close it will pull you in.

Today, small things like sunsets, staring out at the water, and kisses for no reason are the reasons she smiles. She believes it is the simple memories that define us, and the ones we hold close to our hearts. For Lisa, writing allows her to share her struggles and experiences with others, and by doing so she learns and grows both mentally and spiritually through the process. Therefore, with her work, she hopes to inspire her readers to join her on the journey to find inner peace and greater fulfillment in their lives.

Lisa completed her debut novel, The Majewski Curse, and is currently preparing to start writing her second non-fiction work. She currently resides in Northern Ontario with her spouse and their puppy Cooper.

I challenge anyone, especially a parent, to read this book and not walk away with the profound sense of grief and hope for the future that the author conveys. As a parent of three sons, I found Ms McInnes’s despair, at the sad events that befell her family, quite palpable, but also her determination to rebuild her life and look to the future. Not to mention the restorative power of yoga! This is a story of personal loss for a family, but also societal loss at how the court system intervened. A powerful emotional read, l look forward to reading more from the author.

Obviously, anyone reading this will be heart broken by the events that happened to this family. I can understand the thoughts that it may have been a curse.
Loss is such a difficult thing to overcome and the fact that Sharlene turned around and was suing them is absolutely disgusting.
The loss of the two children must have been a terrible torture, and then to watch your husband fall apart is something I can’t even imagine.
This book is amazingly written and I give the author credit for sharing her vulnerability with the world.

A must read

This is a poignant true story of loss and how a system meant to protect failed this family, sending them down a path of despair and emotional turmoil. The author selflessly gives you a glimpse into what many would agree is the most devastating news any person could receive. Her honest insist on how this journey affected her entire family gives you a perspective of how fragile life truly is.

I was captivated by Lisa Dianne Mckinnes’ powerful, debut novel ‘The Majewski Curse’. It is a well chronicled, true life story of the tragic losses of both her stepsons in a cruel short period of time, the nebulous & nefarious ways in which they both die and the failure of the justice system in both their respective cases. McKinnes vividly captures the searing pain that rips through a family leaving it fragmented. Only with relentless strength of character she fights to make it & her whole again & in doing so turns survivor’s guilt into survivor’s grace in her life affirming, cathartic journey. A poignant must read.

Oh, my heart is broken. I drive by Brandon's memorial quite frequently, and I always wondered what the story was behind it... Never in a million years did I expect THIS story. Lisa, I am in awe of how you handled it all. I can sense that you are an incredibly strong and resilient person. Life, and the world, can be downright awful and evil at times, but you continue to seek the beauty in it, and that is something truly admirable.

I understand that this book has many heartbreaking instances involving the loss of a loved one, however the lessons learned from this book are the thoughts that emerge after experiencing great grief. When the author gives some true photographs of the Majewski family after describing the entire story, it crushes my heart, yet how Lisa continued her life journey with new peoples brought readers some relief. After all of these events, I'm not sure whether we all act as strong as Lisa, but her character really inspires you to move on from your past.I have so much to write about this book but it's more better for you to experience this from your own. Thanks for your precious time.

This book is a must read. To know that it is actually a non-fiction and not a fiction story is beyond words.
Never in a million years can I image that this actually happened to someone. The tragic deaths of not just one family member but three in a very short time. Also, to have a person upset your world and to do what Sharlene did.
To have the courage to be able go through all this and to tell the world your story.
Lisa you are an inspiration to the world of what you have gone through and how you see the best in everything and to live life to it’s fullest.
Thank you for sharing your story.

I definitely couldn’t put this book down. As an empath myself it was an absolute rollercoaster ride of emotions. Knowing that it is a true story added fuel to my rage even further.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who’s lost someone in their life. Honestly I think everyone should read it as it sheds light on subjects that are rarely touched.
I couldn’t imagine the pain and suffering the author went though but I’m thankful she chose up share her lessons with us. I look forward to her next book.

This is the very best book I have read in a long time. The turmoil and heartache the author endured was unbelievable and the strength and courage it took to overcome these tragedies was nothing less than incredible. No parent or wife can read this without your heart breaking. My heart goes out to the author as she takes you with her on these horrific real life events. In my opinion this is a 10 star book!! My Christmas shopping is solved.

A sad tale

The death of a child is heartbreaking, now add a second child and a spouse to the mix. The lack of accountability is astonishing in the death of Brandon, which set the entire tragedy in motion. Imagine getting sued by the person who killed your child? I hope this family finds peace.

Compelling Read

So much tragedy but the story concludes with a How to Cope with destructive emotions chapter. The unbelievable events the author endured give credence to her suggested methods for grief management.

Very sad in parts, but honestly, I found myself with a lot of questions that made me distrust the author. Overall, very disingenuous.
Also - not very well written.
