I thought telling my story would purge my demons, but it didn’t. If anything, it brought them closer to the surface. Now, they’re threatening to drag me back into the darkness and stop me from moving on with the journalist who captured my story and my heart. The guilt I bear is heavy, the road I’ve traveled long and littered with scars that run deep. I’ve been down this road before, in love with two women at the same time. It didn’t end well. Erin’s running scared - for good reason - but I won’t let her get away that easy. I know what I need to do, but am I strong enough to let go of the past?
Erin Langford
Journalists are supposed to be objective, to look at a story as if you’re outside a window looking in. That’s what I was taught. That’s what I should have done. Instead, I fell through the glass and right into Jack O’Donnell’s bed. The memoire I was supposed to write turned into more than I bargained for. I’m in too deep. So far gone. He’s like a bad drug, making his way through my veins, and stopping my heart. Yet, I still want more. There’s just one problem - he’s still in love with someone else. She’s the ghost in the room, the girl that ruined him for all others. Am I strong enough to be the one to help him heal?
Paula Dombrowiak grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois but currently lives in Arizona. She is the author of Blood and Bone, her first adult romance novel which combines her love of music and imperfect relationships. Paula is a lifelong music junkie, whose wardrobe consists of band T-shirts and leggings which are perpetually covered in pet hair. Music is what inspires her storytelling.
Paula Dombrowiak introduced me to rockstar romance and her portrayal of the life behind the fame and fortune wasn’t sugarcoated and I love that about her books. This is a follow up to Jack and Erin’s story. Blood and Bone was an amazing book and served as an appetizer to this main course aka Breath to Bear.
This book is why I love reading character driven plots. It’s raw, emotional, gut wrenching but at the same time full of hope. I knew going in that this wasn’t going to be a light read, but I was still unprepared for how emotional Breath to Bear is.
Jack’s character is so flawed, you can’t help but fall in love with him and Erin’s resiliency was commendable. Every single character (I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE) has depth and well realized and added so many layers to Jack and Erin’s story.
Although this is romance, it’s a also a poignant story about hope, healing, forgiveness and acceptance! I love when romance delivers those messages.
You. Need. To. Read. These. Books! I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Since I read Blood & Bone I could realize that Paula Dombrowiak has a special ability to convey the feelings of her characters, especially sadness, despair, regret and loneliness, but with Breath to Bear was placed on a completely different level! This second book was even better than the first, much more revealing and raw, especially when it comes to Jack, Erin & Cash, which only leads me to get a lot more excited for the following books, and to prepare myself emotionally for this roller coaster.
I want to start with Jack because I really think he's a VERY COMPLICATED character in so many ways: I have to say that throughout Blood & Bone I developed a love-hate for him quite big, he's a man who has made MUCH AND VERY BIG mistakes throughout his life, mistakes that have had serious consequences for the people around him, Mia especially, u> and I think that love-hate didn't change much in this book, at least in the first part. One of the things that I loved about this book was that, I think, we were able to read the real Jack, someone who has relived the most painful moments of his life because of the book he wrote with Erin, < u>someone who constantly struggles with guilt, the fear of destroying more people, of not being good enough for the people he loves, and who constantly struggles with his addictions
I have to say that Paula got me to understand Jack's personality in a better way with this book, he's definitely not my favorite character in the series nor did I manage to love him madly like other characters, but I think his struggles and the moments in which he inadvertently hurt Erin made him a much more real character. Obviously, his story with Mia is still present, his death and what left behind, for both Jack & Cash are an important part of the plot, and one of the main conflicts that this man has to face.
Erin was my favorite character, maybe it has a little to do with the fact that her personal story has certain things that make me feel identified, but even before I got to that part of the book I already loved her much more than before. I think she is also quite complex. continues to face the losses of his father and brother, a misogynistic industry in which she has to work even harder so that his talent is recognized, she constantly fights against Mia's ghost in her relationship with Jack and especially against the feeling of always being in the background to the people around her.
Erin was a very pleasant surprise, her situation with Jack broke my heart and the way she tried to find an excuse for his behavior, even though deep down she knew she deserved much more from him, but when the time comes, she proves to be incredibly brave, a woman with a big heart and a strength worth admiring, and I will conclude by saying that chapter 18 is the best in this book!
Another thing that I LOVE WITH CRAZY about the Paula books is the structure they have, not only does each chapter have its own title, but she tells its stories in a completely different way than any other novel, romance or whatever genre I've read. And especially with Breath to Bear she showed that it isn't necessary for the main characters to be together all the time in order to convey the pain and love they feel for each other. In addition to the supporting characters playing a huge role in the plot: Cash was wonderful, I LOVE all those moments he shares with Jack and the unconditional love that has brought them together through the years and losses, Amber shocked me! I liked that she had her own redemption while still being herself, Wade, Adam, Sasha and even Mia herself were important and helped make the story so much more interesting.

"I am falling over the edge into that crevasse with him, and I fear I will lose myself when he rests his forehead against mine. I breathe him in, the smell of his soap mixed with cigarettes and bubble gum."
I'm so sad this read has finished. After I finish the reading, I want to read it all over again just to experience the reading emotions.
What an amazing book that was gorgeously written. Paula did a great job writing her characters, their story, story and character development and the explosive chemistry in the relationship of love, friendship and families.
She did a great job in telling Jack and Erin's stories individually. While it was a romance, the individual focus of their story was written in raw emotions that make you feel for them and follow the journey together. There was a good balance of everything, not in their storyline but where we were left out with the first book with friendship, past, guilt, relationship and unanswered question.
I laughed, cried and was heartbroken throughout the read. This read shows us nothing was perfect in each character and their life, which made them more relatable.
Highly recommend this read, AMAZING.
"Maybe they’ve lost their way and they’re trying to find each other.”
If you haven't read Blood and Bone yet but plan to, stop right here and come back to read this review afterwards. B and B should be read first, then Breath to Bear for the maximum enjoyment of these phenomenal stories. If you've been waiting patiently for the rest of Jack O' Donnell's story, then continue reading and get ready to click on this one asap!!
-------------------------
When I finished reading Paula Dombrowiak's debut rockstar romance novel, Blood and Bone many months ago (which is a MUST READ before digging deep into Breath to Bear) my initial reaction was WTH did I just read?? It was a tornado of angst and drama but I didn't mind- the tumultuous and tragic story of Jack O' Donnell's rocky start was the kind of book I love to get lost in. It left me with the mother of all book hangovers for the longest time after finishing it and I couldn't have been more thrilled to have found it. Counting down to the release of Breath to Bear was a torture I gladly accepted because I needed to know what was next for this enigmatic rocker, hoping for a happy ending, but knowing Jack as I felt I did now... I wondered if my wish for him could really come true?
Breath to Bear had the answers I needed, so back into this world I went..excited and curious, with plenty of tissues in hand. Was I ready get into Jack's head and heart again? Yes, I was dying to feel everything he did. He's the kind of broody, broken charmer I can't seem to resist- dark, flawed, beautiful, quick witted and musically gifted. But always fighting for attention in the corners of Jack's mind are the scars and baggage of deep sorrow, guilt and regret for some of the choices he's made and the consequences of them all.
When Jack decided to share his tell all story, he knew it would be brutally honest, painful, raw and difficult reliving but baring his secrets to the world dredged up a host of feelings that might have been better left buried. While he knows it's time to lay the past to rest, he's haunted, living in his own head, unable to forget the mistakes he's made and be grateful for what is right in front of him...his love of music and the lovely woman who is still there despite knowing every one of them.
"It's like I'm repeating history, and another person is being caught up in my gravity."
Erin knows what a complicated man Jack can be and the demons he fights daily, after all, she spent the last year engrossed in his world, molding every detail of his life into a best selling novel. She's seen deep into his soul and knows he's someone she wants and needs in her life. Their connection is electric and she craves him when they're apart, but is there any room left in his broken heart for her? Erin has dreams, demons and emotional scars of her own. It was so easy to admire her and I loved her strength and sense of self worth Erin fought for. She loves Jack but has doubts. He's lost in his music, she hides in her work, so what will become of them?
"He has the power to break me. And break me he will."
"Will I always be the one looking for him?"
I'll say this much- the tissues were definitely needed, there was some ugly crying going down but but happy tears weren't far behind. Though relationships have been tested, the warmth of longtime bonds run deep through Jack and Erin's lives along with love, laughter, light, hope, healing and forgiveness. They are all a part of Breath to Bear and stand beside the darkness just as they do in their own personal journeys. If you haven't read Blood and Bone, RUN, don't walk to grab it because to me, you need to understand their past to enjoy what the future holds for Jack and Erin. These two emotionally charged books will no doubt live on in your heart forever but Paula Dombrowiak isn't done with this world yet, thank goodness, because there are some threads left hanging and I want to pull on them all!!
I am thankful to have been given the opportunity to read and review an early copy of this book. What a true pleasure it was to find what I was looking for in these gritty, well written pages. I would definitely recommend putting both books on your must read list.
Wow! What a book, I truly believe this is the book that Jack O'Donnell needed and deserved. Blood and Bone was just the beginning of this epic story. This book was what happens after the last book ends and what happens with the fallout of his life story being written.
Erin and Jack are still connected and this book shows just how their relationship develops and evolves, with stopping the hurt and breaking ties with addiction. It's how they deal with the ghosts from the past that block them from being able to move on and be together.
This story held me captive, I just couldn't put it down. I couldn't stop the tears, I truly felt heartbroken at certain points in this book. Although for me this was Jack's story. I think this book was healing for all that was involved with the ups and downs of Mogo, past and present.
I absolutely recommend this book. It's hard to believe that this is only the second book that this author has written. I look forward to the up and coming stories in this series. Paula Dombrowiak has made a mark and is most definitely a must read author for me.
Jack left the ball in Erin's court at the end of Blood & Bone. In the beginning of Breath to Bear, she had already made her decision and they were a year deep into things. The memoir he had released was out And it was raw. Gritty. Brutal. Now the two, and his daughter, and his ex, and the rest of the people in his world, have to deal with the aftermath. Where do Erin and Jack stand now? She's not sure. Not sure where she stands in his world, in his heart. Can she deal with a relationship where the ghost of his ex will always be present? How does she fit with his daughter? Or even his ex wife? All these questions, and her own demons are fighting for space in her mind, which are scary especially when present with Jack's even more numerous demons.
Damn...Jack and Erin's story is crazy good. So beautiful, but so painful. Like Jack's memoir, this duet was raw, gritty and brutal. Through it all, Erin stood fast, even in the face of her demons and Jack's, in the face of the public eye, in the face of all of Jack's less than admirable actions that took their toll on everyone around him. I absolutely loved Erin for her strength, her giant heart, and her amazing stability. Such a contrast to Jack, on whose shoulders I place the blame for much of the pain and hurt everyone around him experienced. Not all of the pain, mind you, because most of the people in his orbit are adults and made their own decisions, but he was just so I don't know, self absorbed and reckless, that he caused so much pain for everyone. In case you couldn't tell, I don't love Jack, not at all. I know for sure, I am not as strong as Erin, nor as forgiving, because I'd have kicked his ass to the curb long ago if he had pulled the shit on me that he pulled on her. Sufficed to say, I loved this story because of Erin, and because it's the kind of rockstar story I love most, even if I don't love the rockstar himself - it's intense and raw, sexy as hell, and has the most amazing heroine at its center.

What a journey! The trip through Jack O'Donnell's life was not an easy one but complex and often full of harsh actions and consequences. As a character he was unforgettable and very nearly unforgivable but Ms. Dombrowiak took him down from his larger than life rockstar status and gave readers a portrayal that they could sink their teeth into, feeling his anguish and standing in his shoes. It is never easy to depict someone who has so much darkness and emotional scarring, yet somehow this author got through to the core of who he was and showed readers a side of Jack that deserved their devotion and loyalty.
Breath to Bear was less about revisiting Jack's past but opening the door to the possibilities of his future by facing his difficult and often ugly realities. Erin Langford was a woman who was not without her own dark history yet somehow she and Jack clicked. They confronted each other's worst and brought out each other's best in all their flawed glory for intense moments softened by tenderness and vulnerability. There was a fine line in this couple's relationship between being supportive and enabling that this author was able to balance perfectly.
This was an emotionally heavy read and the heart blows were staggering. There was no holding back by Paula Dombrowiak to the benefit of her story. This author's attention to character detail and the intimacy that she was able to convey was extraordinary. Breath to Bear was worth every tear and every hard earned 5 stars!
*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own.* *Reading the first book in the Blood and Bone series, Blood and Bone, prior to this one is recommended.*
“Life is a series of events that touch you in ways you will never understand until you’re ready to look back and really feel them.”
This was one hell of an emotional journey of heartbreak, healing and accepting love. The emotional heartache and pain that pours off the pages could be felt deeply and had me sobbing uncontrollably. Jack’s journey of healing and acceptance was poignantly told and woven in a way that made Jack come to life on the pages. His heartache was my heartache and I fell hopelessly in love with him.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat, laughing and crying, and completely gushing with so much love for all of the phenomenal characters. I could not put this book down and was completely captivated from beginning to end.
Erin and Jack’s journey was one hell of an epic love story that will forever be one of my favorites. These two are connected by shared pain, loss and heartache. Their relationship has grown into something extraordinary and beautiful. These two felt so real and relatable that I got swept up in their story feeling like I was right there with them and part of their healing journey.
Brilliantly written story filled with so much raw emotion, heartbreak and love that it seeps off the pages and buries itself in deep your heart and soul. I loved every second of this amazing journey.
Last year, Paula Dombrowiak reached out to me and asked if I would read her book and I said yes. My only regret was letting it sit on my kindle for a couple weeks before opening it. I couldn't believe that it was her debut novel. After reading it, I became a huge fan, buying a signed copy of the book Blood and Bone, and keeping in touch with Paula. So when the opportunity to sign up for the next book came, I jumped at it! I just finished Breath to Bear and wanted to write my review while the story is still fresh in my mind.
Breath to Bear is the follow up to Blood and Bone, and follows Jack and Erin's journey on the path to redemption and second chances. I don't want to give away much in case you haven't read the first book, so I'll just say that Jack had a lot of baggage. From his rough childhood, to his early years trying to make a name for himself in the music industry and the demons he's had to battle along the way. Erin has plenty of her own baggage, although compared to Jack's, it's not so bad. Jack thought that by telling his story, by letting Erin write his story, it would free him from his guilt, pain and shame. What he didn't expect was to fall in love. Erin fell in love too, but with Jack holding onto the past, Erin knew he wasn't ready for a relationship. Erin knows her worth, and I loved that about her. She just needs Jack to see it. Jack wants to let it go, he wants to be the man Erin deserves, he just has to figure out how to make that happen.
This was a beautifully crafted story with relatable characters that make them seem real. This is not a lighthearted rom/com, although there are several moments where you have to laugh at Jack's antics. This is about learning to forgive yourself, learning how to live with your past while moving forward. Learning how to love yourself, so that you can love someone else.
I absolutely recommend reading Blood and Bone and then Breath to Bear, in that order. You will fall in love with the charming, talented and scarred Jack in the first book and you will root for him and Erin in the second book.
As soon as i reached the end of Blood and Bone i couldn't wait for more of this story! I picked this one up as soon as i could and got right back into the Blood and Bone world! I so enjoyed this second installment!
Jack and Erin's journey continues! I was pulled right back into this story from the very first chapter. I wasn't sure what all was going to happen next with these two characters which had me glued to my kindle even more! Once again, i felt so much with these two from beginning to end!
With Breath To Bear, has created a great read and continuation that brought many feels! I can't wait for more from her!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
The end of Blood and Bone left Erin and Jack’s story open. Drove me nuts until I found out there would be another book to wrap up their romance. Whew.
Just FYI to readers - you need to read the first book. This is not a standalone.
You want to root for these two but in the process want to smack Jack upside the head at times. He’s still has a lot of stuff to settle before he can move on. Erin is a saint to put up with his actions but you can understand why. Though I will say she has her own stuff to deal with.
Expect some pain and sorrow but laughter and happiness as well as these two clear the past and move on together.
Can’t wait for side characters’ stories that are coming.
This is a new to me author and she has definitely won me over with an exceptional rock romance book. The is the second book in this series with Blood and Bone being the first book that lays the ground work for this book.
Jack and Erin’s story broke my heart and by the end they mended that very same heart all along the way it felt like I was on this crazy rollercoaster ride of emotions. What a great job pulling me into their world and not letting go until the last page was read.
I can’t wait to read more from this author because she has made a fan out of me.
Jack And Erin are back in the exciting sequel to Blood and Bone. Jack just can’t seem to get over the past to start again. He just can’t let go of memory’s that haunt him day and night.
Sometimes I can’t stand to be inside my own skin. I think too much. My mind never stops and I’m exhausted.
Erin cares about Jack but just can’t compete with a ghost.
“Sometimes you find a partner like Mia to write with and it’s like catching lightning in a bottle. You can’t replicate it if you tried,” I explain.
Watching Both of these lost souls have to overcome So much to finally reach there HEA was a amazing journey.
“Watching the fireflies,” I say, as they dance in front of me. “Why do you think they do that?” he asks. “Maybe they’re trying to light their own way home.”
I absolutely loved Jack and Erin's story. Two lost souls funding connection in one another. I love Rockstar romances and This one does not disappoint. Paula has a remarkable way of story telling and making you feel like you're apart of the story you're reading. Highly recommended
There are over a hundred thousand words in those pages that people will read, but I lived them, and they are etched inside my soul forever.
I felt the heartbreak from Blood and Bone all over again from the very start of this. There’s a smidge of a time jump between them. Breath to Bear starts about a year later. Which is plenty of time for Jack to pour his soul to Erin, and for Erin to become squished until the weight of his burdens. Burdens he never wanted her to carry. But that’s unavoidable. Erin knows Jack is still Mia’s, now more than ever. All that time spent talking about the past has ripped open his wounds even more. More than either of them thought was possible. And she understands, but she’ll ignore it just so have him in all the ways that she can. No matter the pain it causes her. Erin knows all the details of Jack’s secrets, his demons, his truths. But even all that heartbreak and pain can’t keep her away. Everyone has a breaking point though, and Erin hits it. She deserves better than competing with a ghost. She knows that, and she makes sure Jack knows it too. There’s an abundance of raw pain. There’s Jack’s pain, the pain between Jack and Erin, even between Jack and his bandmates. Jack isn’t willing to give up though. He does his damnedest to prove his love and devotion to Erin, and only Erin. My heart was instantly giddy from the beginning, for no other reason other than I was getting to spend time with Jack and Erin again. I let out a whole ass squeal during the epilogue. And the most perfect sigh of content after the bonus scene. Just as with Blood and Bone, I loved the involvement of music. Especially the playlist!
My Favorite Quotes: • “Don’t laugh. I will f!ck you right here on the front porch.” • “Don’t ever close your legs to me.” • “You can’t avoid me forever. I will find you…and when I do…” • “I want to hear your voice.” • “I read all your articles.” • “I want to see all of you.” • “When I f!ck you, I want to make it last. That is why I don’t let you take control.” • “I’m not the man you deserve, but I’m trying to be, and I’ll keep trying as long as you let me.” • “It’s the song that plays in my head every time I see you.” • “I want to see what this dress looks like on the floor.” • “I will follow that ass anywhere.” • “Don’t call my bluff because I will get on my knees for you right now on this red carpet.” • “You’re my slow burn.”
7/10 Dirty Birdy 8/10 Second Chance 7/10 Tearjerker
All I can say is, Grab a cup of coffee (or something stronger 😉) and enjoy the ride because this is one of the most amazing stories of redemption, second chances, and love that I've ever read!
Raw, emotional, real, and utterly honest...This book was like the ultimate ending to a love song. Complete with wondrous highs and epic lows....
It will pull you in deep, break your heart, then mends those beautifully broken pieces back together in the most extraordinary way! It's the most beautifully exquisite journey....
From the first chapter, I was brought back into Jack O’Donnell's world... His struggle with the guilt he carries leaves him shackled to the past. He thought telling his story would release his demons... but it's only brought them closer to the surface. Well, sometimes wounds need to be opened to heal and for this rockstar, those wounds are about to be torn wide open.....
Erin Langford is the woman who broke past Jack's armor. In writing his story, they created something extraordinary....both professionally and personally. He's the man she now can't get enough despite the emotional scars he holds deep...but how much longer can she play second fiddle to the ghost he still loves when she's right here and worth fighting for too....
GAWD....THIS BOOK! I could feel the emotions following off the page as I read! Paula gave me a story that I never knew that I needed! She reminded me to not fear the storm because the rainbow isn't far behind....
So many things come full circle in this book and it's a beautiful thing to witness. I was crying happy tears by the end of this story and don't regret a single moment of it!
These characters feel like friends and family... it's as though you know them. You root for them, cry with them, rage with them, laugh with them, and most of all, cheer for them as some finally find that peace and happiness they've been looking for...And Cash....I'm SO WAITING ON YOUR HEA!!
Paula has truly outdone herself with this phenomenal story. It's emotionally gripping and put me through a roller coaster of emotions. From heartbreak, to tears, to laughter, to hope, and to happiness...It's absolutely amazing and definitely one of my favourite reads of this year.

She never expected to cross paths with a man like Jack O’Donnell, but now that she has she can't seem to let him go. She knew going in that he was a man that wasn't capable of giving every bit of himself, but she went ahead and took what he was offering, and now she is the one with the broken heart. It was a simple job, help him pen his life story, and then walk away... but the walking away part is a whole lot harder than she ever anticipated!
Breath to Bear is a beautifully penned story of second chances, redemption, forgiveness, and finding love. From the get-go these two had me captivated, their connection easily felt, but I also sensed there was some inner turmoil there too... and I eventually found it. The farther I delved, the more my heart began to hurt for them, their old wounds had a tight hold on them and I began to wonder if they'd ever be able to shake them loose. It wasn't a question of if they loved one another, it was more a question of could Jack let go of the love that he lost, and find the courage to open his heart to it again. He deserved a second chance, but he struggled to believe it was possible, that the damage he done was too unforgivable. It was a strong battle, but one he eventually came out on the better side of... and for that my heart rejoiced.
As heartbreaking and emotionally exhausting as this one was, it was also a very uplifting story too. A great reminder that there is always a brighter side waiting on the other side of the darkness, you just have to be willing to let yourself see it. There wasn't a single thing about this story that I didn't love, the characters stole my heart upon first glance, and the words took me on a journey that I won't soon forget! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

I absolutely recommend this book. It's hard to believe that this is only the second book that this author has written. I look forward to the up-and-coming stories in this series. Paula Dombrowiak has made a mark and is most definitely a must-read author for me.
All the Emotion . All the Feels . All the Love for this Heart Aching Story!
Wowsers! Jack O'Donnell is a character I will never forget. This beautiful, complicated, and broken man is drowning in grief, regret and guilt and Dombrowiak's beautiful storytelling had me feeling like I was drowning right along with him. I could feel all of his anguish and struggles as all of the dark emotions poured off the pages. God this man wreaked havoc on my emotions and had me shedding some ugly tears. He broke my heart, and had me utterly frustrated all the while I rooted for him to find the light at the end of the tunnel and get himself a HEA.
Less about Jack's heartbreaking past, Breath to Bear is about the future, and finding a way to heal and love again. Will Erin Langford the journalist he met and connected with in Blood & Bone be a part of that future? Or are some emotional scars simply too deep to heal?
Firstly, Erin is my sister from another mister, I loved her! I freakin love a heroine that knows her damn worth and doesn't settle for less.
Erin is no stranger to emotional scars and this only builds the connection between these her and Jack. The connection and relationship these two share is raw, steamy, deep, emotional and riddled with angst and so many heart achingly tense and vulnerable moments. Oh My Heart!
They really are two broken and damaged half souls who together become one.
Breath to Bear was an emotional read that I absolutely devoured with an aching heart. Paula Dombrowiak has created a world and characters that will capture, break and steal your heart.
5 Heart Stealing Stars!!!
And now Bring on Book 3!! I need it like yesterday. hehe
Forgiveness is a long hard road, so follow the fireflies that light the way home.
Jack should be over the moon. The book that he co-wrote with Erin is on the best selling list. Relationships with the boys and his family have been better and at least no one has had to take care of him.
Erin is pulling away from him. He knows exactly how to fix it, but the past can sometimes be the hardest thing to let go. It is going to take possibility of losing everything again, for Jack to see that something like forgiveness has to start within yourself.
Erin has a lot on her plate as well. She has been through a lot with this book, and with Jack. They have a great thing going, but the past can sometimes be too much to live up to. She reaches her breaking point and decides that she can't be second to a ghost, both with Jack and her family.
Once again, the surprises will sneak up. The laughs and the love are there but those tearful spots are there, proving that this author is making her mark as, "the collector of reader's tears." I loved how the characters were able to work through their experiences. They learn that the family you create will always be there when you need them the most. I can't wait to read and cry more!

Breath to Bear is the second book in the Blood & Bone series written by author Paula Dombrowiak. I really loved the first book, Blood & Bone, and was happy to hear that Jack and Erin’s story continued in Breath to Bear. To fully appreciate and understand the storyline, it is recommended that you read the series in chronological order.
Jack O’Donnell has a lot of baggage, and he’s been trying to turn his life around. He thought that having Erin write his story would help him move on, but it actually made it worse for him. Jack still has a lot of guilt and just doesn’t know how to let it go. He cares a lot for Erin, but there’s still something preventing him from moving on. Erin knows this and begins putting more space between them. However, she still loves him. Can Jack and Erin put both of their past baggage to rest and find their way towards each other?
Breath to Bear was a fabulous story, and I had a hard time putting it down. It’s a definite add to your TBR list!
I habe been on a rock star romance binge for the past four months. I don't know what I'm searching for but I find it here. I want a story to pull and push my feelings, emotions and heart. I need a story to excite me and keep me wanting for more. This story does that while still giving me the seggsy scenes that turns up the heat.
Paula's male lead, Jack, is a tortured complicated and talented man who you want to save, protect, love and smack upside the head. She's written not on e but three complex women. Amber is a strong take no prisoner kind of girl and isn't afraid to put anyone in their place. Mia is a vulnerable girl who is the sun everyone revolves around. Even I want to jump in and take care of her. Then there's Erin, the woman who can see past the negative and see the truth in people. They all live him, and they all help him to become the man he is, scars and all.
The story is a journey and I know there are a few more stories still to read around this world she's built. The remaining cast of characters are just as rich and deserving of their own stories. Did you guess that I love this story. Enjoy.
This book is more than a 5-star read – it was as heartbreaking as it was heartwarming! I was so caught up in Jack and Erin’s story. They are both beautifully flawed, traumatized by the ghosts of their pasts. Told in dual POV, I could feel their love, regrets, guilt and hurt in each page I read. Paula can write in such a poetic, descriptive way that there was no doubt how Erin and Jack were feeling. I bled as they struggled to bury the ghosts of the past, so they could move forward with each other. Jack is still the sexy, alpha rockstar, but with Erin he has such a softer side. Erin is quirky, beautiful and such a good match for Jack. While there was a lot of angst in this book, there were moments where I was smiling so hard or just outright giggling. I love the way Paula integrated the secondary characters into Erin and Jack’s story, I really hope to see more of them in future books. If you enjoy reading raw, angsty love stories, this is a must for any TBR. Their story will stay with you long after you finish reading. Advanced copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Erin is living her life between LA and New York City. She’s helped Jack write his story and stayed with him. She’s working freelance and travels a lot. Jack is still as elusive as ever, but she loves him. Jack still has things that cause him pain and the music is not flowing but at least the relationship with his daughter Hayley is good. There seems to be a lot of things going on and lots of trips, conversations and events that don’t move the story in any direction. Jack and Erin are not as close and I’m 60% into the book and it’s like I’m reading two separate stories, jacks story and Erin’s story. For a romance the two main characters are just not together. There are some characters I really like in this book, Cash, Sasha, Adam and Wade. All of a sudden the pieces start coming together,Jack and Erin come together along with the broken pieces. It’s sweet and romantic and I’m swooning over these two. The love story was fantastic and the ending spectacular. I’m giving this book five stars and highly recommending it.
This is book 2 in the Blood and Bone series and it’s also part two of Jack O’Donnell and Erin Langford’s story. Whereas the first book is full of sensitive content and took me a while to finish since I had to stop every so often to process all the raw events that were Jack’s past, this book was a breeze to read and I loved it so, so much! Jack finds himself in love with Erin but since his life has always been a mess he doesn’t know how to do relationships. Yes, he’s been in relationships before but they’ve ended up badly. This time around with Erin feels different though, he can see a future, he wants to let go of his past and build something with Erin but he doesn’t know how. Erin also has her own baggage to deal with and while Jack does a lot of soul searching, healing and releasing the past through creating music, singing and performing, she does it through a road trip, new friends and finally facing her family. They both have work to do, both alone and together. Would they be able to get their HEA? Their story is nothing short of a rockstar-worthy wild ride!
“She broke past my armor, saw the person I am inside, and didn’t run.”
ROCKSTAR GOD. LOVE TRYSTS. ALL THE FEELS…Jack and Erin…and oh yeah, Mia. In Paula Dombrowiak’s concluding novel, Breath to Bear, the journey picks up one year after Erin and Jack establish a kismet connection in Blood and Bone. After that initial ending, I was excited to learn just how the two characters would evolve into more, while overcoming the challenges that their pasts inflicted.
“You can’t live a life like I have and not have scars, and mine are deep.”
Overall, I found this friends to lovers, rock star romance to be a stunning example of redemption and forgiveness. And from both characters, Erin and Jack reflect on choices made and realize that through unconditional love, never forgetting but letting go, enables one to move on. I enjoyed the unique second-chances storyline, and can’t wait to see what happens with the other characters.
“…our struggles, our love, and our friendship that has endured more than most.”
Also, be sure to read the extended epilogue book as provided. I reviewed an early copy voluntarily, and look forward to future novels by the author.
You can tell when an author believes in her characters because they have the ability to make you believe in them as well. By that I mean not every rock star story comes across as a true depiction of the lifestyle. This series hits that mark. As we learn in book one, Blood and Bone, which you MUST read first, Jack O'Donnell is pretty messed up namely due to addictions , a lost love and a treasure trove of bad decisions , so writing his story with ghost writer Erin Langford was supposed to put his demons to rest. But you know what they say about best laid plans. Jack and Erin are in their early 40's and mid 30's respectively, which is a treat as they are written as adults with issues, conflicts, regrets and the smarts to realize letting happiness pass you by is unacceptable. The supporting characters , both old and new are truly that, supporting, I look forward to seeing them again sometime in the near future. I have my list of favorite rock genre books and gladly add this author and this series to that list
Wow, the first book, Blood and Bone, tore me up! You definitely must read it before you read this one. Luckily, I read it just before starting Breath to Bear so I didn't have to wait long to continue the story.
Jack's story continues here. His book, written with Erin, is published and is a bestseller. The band's start, his struggles with addiction, his relationships with Amber, Hayley, Wade, Cash, and Mia are out for the world to read and know about. Mia, after being gone for 6 years, still haunts him. Of course, this affects his current relationship with Erin.
Erin has her own struggles with her past to contend with, along with trying to deal with Jack and his ghosts. This book was so good. I didn't think I would get over Blood and Bone, but Breath to Bear did patch me up. I'm not sure if I can handle reading about Mia and Cash's story so soon. I may need a few months to continue since I know how that story ends :'(. Amazing work, Paula!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Wow, I have a lot of emotions going through me right now. This was a roller coaster ride of an emotional read for me. This is the conclusion of Jack and Erin’s story and what an ending it was. We pick up a year after she agrees to write his book. His gut wrenching emotional story of love, music, addiction and tragedy. In this book Erin wrestles with her love for Jack and if he truly loves her or who he wants her to be. Jack needs to figure out how to overcome his past to be able to live in the future. Between his band mates, daughter and ex wife he has a lot to figure out. These two definitely dove deep to help themselves while helping each other. I literally devoured this book. I couldn’t read it fast enough. I loved this story more than I thought I would. The characters were well developed, the story was very layered and extremely detailed. I laughed Out loud at the bands banter and I teared up at the raw emotions coming from the pages. This was a new author to me until recently, I am now a fan! I am already looking forward to reading more books by this author and hopefully in this series.
