Becky starts her new cafe business with her sassy cat Constance attracting the customers. However, her idyllic life is soon interrupted by the presence of the ghost of a man that was washed up on the shore.
The coroner ruled it was suicide, but the victim's widow think's it was murder and convinces Becky to take on the case.
Becky finds herself in hot water and in the line of suspicion when she goes under cover.
Can she clear her name and find the real murderer?
Hi, I love writing mysteries and started with a paranormal series. In the last couple of years I have been writing 1920s mysteries. I love the atmosphere of the time, that has been depicted on our screens and in fiction. Of the fashion, the cars, the parties following the war which gave everyone that 'live for the day' attitude.
I set my books in Somerset close to where I live, although the towns and villages are fictional they are based on real places local to me. They have to be fictional as I change them to fit the story. I do use the real cities though, such as Bristol and Bath Spa. They are places I visit often and it's great to be able to spend time researching what the cities were like 100 years ago.
I did not enjoy this book as much as the first one. Hopefully the third one is better. Have to read the third one now since I already bought it. Fingers crossed it is a good one!
Becky's made some significant life changes recently and her new cafe is one of them. It's going well, her customers are happy, but Becky knows she'll need to make some upgrades to keep up with demand. First up: A fancy new coffee machine.
Unfortunately for her, said fancy coffee machine is outside her budget at the moment. Fortunately for her (although unfortunately for the victim), the widow of a man who'd recently drowned is willing to pay Becky to investigate his death. Initially reluctant (because she hasn't quite embraced her ability as a medium), she soon figures out the spirit of the deceased is going to continue to hang around until she figures out who did the deed.
With the help of her new friends, one self-proclaimed individual who is certain he's her protector, and H's family, Becky sorts through the clues, ends up picked up by the police, has a terrible picture taken for the newspaper, and further cements herself as a medium. Which she is, but she still doesn't want to admit it. Enjoyable overall, but Becky takes SO MANY risks. I can kind of understand H's exasperation with her in that regard.
Becky James has the ability to see ghosts. She's having difficulty accepting her new reality, but she understands that she doesn't have a choice. When a body is found in Brenden Bay, the police believe it was suicide. Then why does Becky see the dead man watching her. The widow wants her to prove it was murder. Suddenly Becky is the prime suspect in two murders. She needs to find who really killed Robert Hart and is framing her! I knew that Becky would get to the truth. She will follow the clues and use her special talents to get answers. I wish that she would realize that H is interested. I think that they are perfect together. Becky is fortunate to live in this charming resort town and have such wonderful and helpful friends. Constance, her cat, is a scene stealer. She makes me smile. I'm enjoying this quirky cozy by Kelly Mason. I can't wait to see what happens next.
I started reading the first book and got hooked now I'm on the end of book two and fixing to read the third book can't wait I like to have the author makes it interesting unfortunately some of the words are left out of the book it gets kind of irritating at times cuz I have to remember what they're meaning when they say he and then stop I have to realize what they mean by that he closed the door or that is just an example but there's some words missing out of the book it's probably a print problem or maybe Kendall eBook reader or the ebook that I downloaded from from Amazon because the fact that every time I turn around the book keeps closing and have to do bookmarks in order to get back to the area where I was at but like I said I like the book story and I'm on book three
Becky James is at it again. While trying to find the money to get a commercial coffee machine for her cafe, she is approched by Mia Hart, the wife of Robert Hart whose body has been washed up from Branden Bay. The police are calling it suicide but Mia insists he was murdered. After seeing his picture, she realizes he is the ghost she is currently seeing. Mia offers her $6,000.00 to find his killer. Along with her friend Jeff, they start looking for the killer. Becky's policeman friend H tries to keep her from looking, but fails. She is soon framed for killing both Robert and Nick Pope. Can she find the killer before she goes to jail?
I am voluntarily reviewing this book after receiving it free from the author.
I was hooked by this well-written paranormal cozy mystery after reading the excerpt at the back of book 1 in the series. I often find that an author’s second book isn’t quite as good as the first, but this is certainly not the case here. I absolutely loved Kelly Mason’s first book and I can’t believe that this second book is even better! And now I’m left wanting more and counting down the days until book 3. As well as being a fantastic mystery with lots of twists and turns, and having a diverse set of well-rounded characters - including a cat with a personality all of its own - this book is worth reading for the cake alone! I just love the Branden Bay series and can’t wait for book 3!
Becky James has inherited a huge Victorian house set on Branden Bay from her Grandma Constance. She learned that her Grandma was a medium and that she was one too when asked to find out if a man that was assumed to have committed suicide was actually murdered. Becky’s investigation into the death leads her into some dangerous and tricky situations.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Becky is a great character along with her friends who are there for her whenever she needs them. There is a lot of suspense and action to the very end.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys edge of your seat reading.
I actually liked this book more than the first in the series. The book covers are so unique and stood out among the numerous cozies that have similar covers. This book has the added bonus of the characters are now friends and their personalities shine through. Each character brings something different and eclectic to the book. The mystery plot was great with lots of twist.
Becky investigates when a body washes up on the shore and his widow insists it wasn’t a suicide. Becky agrees because she is seeing his ghost around town. When Becky becomes the prime suspect in his murder, she needs to find the real killer before she ends up in jail. A very enjoyable read! I received an advance readers copy of this book and I am leaving a voluntary review.
I chose this rating because the book was both entertaining and interesting. I didn't like that she was always misunderstanding H, but that is so realistic many times. I especially liked her relationship with her pet. Also, the author made Constance very realistic.
I loved this book! The series is amazing. I love the suspense the paranormal is just the best. I laughed so hard a few times and ready for the next book. Thank you if I could give more than 5 stars I definitely would
The reluctant medium can turn the living down, but a sad ghost pulls on her heart strings. It took a while, given her fear of ghosts. I love her cat! Connie Cat is brave and loyal and I wish she was mine.
Great story from Kely Mason - a new girl in town is thought to have the ability to communicateb with ghosts. Full of intrigue, murder and lots of coffe and cakes. Recommend this to you.
Becky would give anything not to see a ghost, but when she noticed a well dressed man staring at her across the street, she did not think for a single minute that he was a ghost. But when his widow turns up with his photograph, Becky knew that there was no getting away from it, no matter how hard she tried.
I am enjoying the fact the Becky's powers are developing, even against her will and it is so nice to get a background on H. His family are lovely, mind you, as is he! Stuff is getting interesting!!
