How will the King enter the world? When will He come? How will he deliver His people? “While I am there, I will be fully human . . . . It is important that I remain hidden, for the enemy will try to kill me. I will be within his domain, and I will be subject to all the laws of the physical world.” The King’s words sent Elric’s mind reeling. “What? The implications of this...” In the Cross Intents trilogy, the physical and spiritual realms intertwine, angels and demons battle for the sake of their kingdoms, words carry power, and spiritual matter is as tangible as physical matter. In The Birth, the first book in the series, follow the angel captain Elric as he keeps the King hidden from His enemies until the time comes to begin His campaign. As the most important battle in history unfolds, you have eyes to see it all.
). Elric is an angel captain, one of the heavenly hosts, who is tasked with the job of seeing that the Messiah is born by keeping a young betrothed couple whose names are Mary and Joseph safe. However, there is also a multitude of demons under the direction of Marr, Satan’s right hand prince, who are trying to foil God’s plan. How will the King enter the world? When will He come? And will He be able to deliver His people? This very well written book is “fantasy” in the sense that the author, Scott Wells, wrote, “The primary angelic characters in this story are fictional, and the specific actions they carry out are the simple musings of a single man.” Yet, I hesitate to label it as just “fantasy” because it is based on and includes historical events. So I have coined (I think) the category of “historical fantasy” for it. The book is a amazingly marvelous story of the age old battle of good versus evil. Here the physical and spiritual realms intertwine as angels and demons fight for the sake of their kingdoms in the most in the most important warfare in history. There is a appendix in the back with references to quoted passages of Scripture. The Birth is Book 1 of the “Cross Intents” trilogy. The second book, The Baptism, covers Jesus’s escape to Egypt and His childhood years.
So well written! So interesting! This is the first book in the series, and is about the birth of Jesus, but a large portion is concerning good vs evil, and the tremendous warfare going on in the spiritual realm.
The angels only know in part, the full plan of the Lord, what they do know is that they must hide and protect Him, as a vulnerable human baby.
But Satan and his demons, see this as their chance of having absolute rule and power, if they can kill the Lord, in His human form.
However, there is also a lot from the human perspective, not being aware, of the mighty battle going on.
I absolutely loved it. And of course, it had Biblical scripture throughout!
I am already reading the second book in the series!
Incredible! This is so much more than just a great story that keeps you turning the pages. Reading it has made me realize that there is a great deal more to our Lord's first coming than I had previously realized. And no, I'm not talking about the angels, though they likely had parts to play in it, and there was likely a lot of spiritual warfare. I've always realized that Mary had a very hard role to play once she became pregnant. I just never really thought it through like the author of this book did. This has given me a lot to think about. Great book!
What an amazing journey. A spiritual battle between Good and Evil, Heaven and hell, Angels and demons. We all know how the story ends but what goes on during this battle is amazing. Join Capt. Elric and his Angel Warriors as they do everything possible to keep the birth of our Lord secret. I heard that this is going to be a trilogy, I can't wait for the release of the second book.
This was a very interesting look into the possible "behind the scene" activities of the angelic host (Not that the baby Jesus really needed any protection from Satan of course).
